The impact of increasing analytical sophistication has, over the past 20 years, resulted in a remorseless increase in the number of requests submitted to hospital laboratories each year. Increasing numbers of requests led in both the clinical chemical and haematological laboratories to a search for mechanized or automated techniques which would enable a limited number of staff to achieve increases in productivity. In this way, over the past 15 years, there has been a progressive development of analytical instruments of greater and greater versatility whose advent has, to a very large extent, transformed the work of the clinical chemist and the laboratory haematologist and has often, by its very capacity for work, confronted them with a surfeit of data. The necessity to process this increasing flow of information has, in many cases, led to the use of dedicated laboratory computers and to some extent it can be said to have stimulated the concept of centralization at least of the broad mass of routine work in the clinical chemistry and haematology laboratories. This paper describes the steps taken in the laboratories of a large teaching hospital in Northern Ireland to move to a position where such centralization is not only possible but logical.

Of primary interest are the personality and motivational factors contributing to the selection of nursing as a profession and the impact of the school of nursing and hospital setting on the progressive development of the student. In particular, patterns of family interaction and sex-role identity are explored in relation to occupational and situational preference. The relationship of these patterns to adolescent transition and role selection in groups other than nursing are discussed.

The article is devoted to the study of the influence of the development of innovations on the economic security of the regions. Based on the assumption that innovative development plays a key role in the process of ensuring the economic security of the region, the authors proposed a system of indicators for assessing the innovative component of the economic security of the region, including the indicators of economic security reflected in the Decree «On the Strategy of Economic Security of the Russian Federation for the Period up to 2030». The impact of innovations is realized through the achievement of the goals of ensuring the country's security, among which is the dynamic and progressive development of the economy. The authors proposed a methodology for assessing the innovative component of economic security based on the scoring method, developed an assessment scale for interpreting the results of calculations, assessed the innovative security of regional economic systems of the Federal Districts of Russia for the period 2015–2019. As a result of the analysis, factors were identified that hinder innovative development and negatively affect the provision of economic security at the regional level: underdevelopment, low efficiency of the innovation infrastructure, reduction of internal costs for research and development, a decrease in the number of developed advanced production technologies, and others. It has been established that the economic security of a region depends on its ability to perceive innovations, while institutional factors have a significant impact on the pace of development. The work has improved the methodological tools for diagnosing the innovative security of the regions of the Russian Federation by optimizing the system of criteria for its assessment. The results of the empirical studies carried out confirmed the possibility of practical use of the developed methodology for diagnosing the innovative security of the regions of the Russian Federation and identifying priority areas for its improvement.

Over a long historical period of development, the institution of the termination of treaties has reached a high degree of maturity. Many of the norms that form it, having arisen in the treaty practice of states in antiquity, not only reflected the needs of their era, but gradually, passing from generation to generation, have transformed. Some of them have become part of the modern system of international law, having been enshrined in the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties (1969). Since ancient times, treaties have been terminated as a result of armed conflicts between states. The punishments for non-compliance with obligations envisaged by ancient treaties, as well as the religious oath designed to serve as a guarantee of their observance, were an expression of the idea of the inviolability of treaties. At the same time, the possibility of their termination was provided for as a result of violation of the fixed conditions. The main reason for the termination of treaties of the feudal period, as in antiquity, was wars. At the end of the 18th — beginning of the 19th century the agreements began to include provisions regulating their revision and even the ability to declare a complete rejection of them, notifying the counterparties. This practice testifies to the emergence of one of the currently widespread methods of terminating treaties, i.e. denunciation. Consideration of the practice of terminating treaties of the Soviet state is carried out taking into account the impact of the 1917 Revolution on the further progressive development of the law of treaties.

Early colonization in the gut by probiotics influences the progressive development and maturity of antioxidant and immune system functionality in the future. This study investigated the impact of orally administrated Lactobacillus delbrueckii (LAB) during the suckling phase on future antioxidant and immune responses of the host, using a piglet model. One hundred neonatal piglets received saline (CON) or LAB at the amounts of 1, 2, 3, and 4 mL at 1, 3, 7, and 14 d of age, respectively. The piglets were weaned at the age of 21 d and fed until the age of 49 d. Serum, liver, and intestinal samples were obtained at 21, 28, and 49 d of age. The results showed that LAB tended to decrease serum 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine concentration and decreased the concentration of serum and hepatic malondialdehyde, but increased the activity of hepatic glutathione peroxidase on days 21, 28, and 49. The concentrations of secretory immunoglobulin A and some inflammatory cytokines and chemokines were increased (P<0.05) in the intestinal mucosa of LAB-treated piglets on days 21, 28, and 49 compared to that of CON piglets. Likewise, protein expression of cyclooxygenase 2 and inducible nitric oxide synthase in the intestine of LAB-treated piglets was increased (P<0.05) during the whole period. These results indicate that administration of LAB to the suckling piglet could improve antioxidant capacity and stimulate intestinal immune response, and these long-lasting effects are also observed up to 4 weeks after weaning. A proper utilization of LAB to neonates would be beneficial to human and animal’s future health.

Abstract The recognition of the human right to water and sanitation (HRtWS) by the United Nations General Assembly and Human Rights Council in 2010 constituted a significant political measure whose direct consequences are still being assessed. Previous to this date, the HRtWS and its link to a healthy life and adequate standard of living had been recognised in diverse legal and judicial spheres worldwide, in some cases under the pressure of the initiatives of strong social movements. However, while the HRtWS is recognised by the UN State Members, it constitutes a concept in construction that has not been approached and interpreted in consensual ways by all concerned stakeholders. The present article presents a formal definition of this right with a base in human rights regulation. It attempts to dialogue with the different existing perspectives regarding the impact of its international recognition as a human right. It then elucidates the progressive development of the HRtWS in law and jurisprudence. Finally, it considers the urgency and challenge of monitoring the HRtWS and discusses important implications for public policies.

This study uses general scientific methods of cognition to comprehensively analyze the impact of digital technologies on the operation of regional economic entities within a common information space.Results. Business structures serve as a driving force in the use of information and communication technologies as they make it possible to increase the efficiency of production and provide competitive advantages in the long term. The structure of the global market of goods and services is transforming due to the rapid development of innovative technologies that accelerate the transition from the idea to the final product, its distribution and service. The global market determines the vector of progressive development based on the achievements of digital technologies in the long term. New organizational forms of regional socio-economic activity have formed under the influence of Internet technologies, reflecting the transition from marketing assessment of consumer behavior towards business models based on intellectual capital.Conclusions. The world’s largest IT companies have become major players in the international market of goods and services within the global digital space. Networking between economic entities is influenced by the dynamically developing active investment activity of leading enterprises. The capital market is currently transforming due to the increasing investment in international projects and programs by consortia and integration groups with the participation of major companies and countries that have the potential of using digital technologies. Global investment flows tend to increase in the segment associated with “mass-market” technologies. New opportunities for the development of entrepreneurship have emerged – for example, in the field of online games, e-commerce, and storage of database arrays. This process will inevitably reinforce the importance of global enterprises using intellectual capital and comprehensive analysis of data of the digital space of regional socio-economic systems. Global and local digital markets are transforming entrepreneurship, creating new organizational forms for its implementation in regions that have the potential to create intellectual capital as a tool for solving national socio-economic problems.
