Mangifera foetida L. merupakan kerabat Mangifera indica dari genus Mangifera yang diduga memiliki kandungan matabolit sekunder dan efek farmakologis yang hampir sama. Kernel biji buah Mangifera indica dilaporkan memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Escherichia coli. Berdasarkan pendekatan taksomi maka penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kandungan metabolit sekunder dan aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak etanol 96% kernel biji buah Mangifera foetida L. terhadap Escherichia coli. Skrining fitokimia dilakukan dengan menggunakan uji tabung. Uji aktivitas antibakteri menggunakan metode difusi agar sumuran. Kandungan metabolit sekunder yang terdapat pada ekstrak etanol 96% kernel biji buah Mangifera foetida L. yaitu flavonoid, tanin, polifenol, monoterpen, seskuiterpen, dan kuinon. Hasil pengujian aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak kernel biji buah Mangifera foetida Lour terhadap bakteri Escherichia coli pada beberapa konsentrasi secara berturut-turut 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60% 70%, 90% dan 100% menghasilkan diameter secara berturut-turut (10,2, 12,03, 14,55, 16,15, 17,18, 18,60, 19,10, 20,20, 21,12) mm yang ditandai dengan terbentuknya zona bening (bersifat bakterisid). Berdasarkan data tersebut maka Kernel Biji Buah Mangifera foetida dinyatakan memiliki aktivitas antibakteri. ABSTRACT Mangifera foetida and Mangifera indica L. are relatives of the genus Mangifera which allegedly contains matabolit secondary with pharmacological effects are almost the same. Mangifera indica seeds are reported to have antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli. Based on scientific classification approach, the study aims to determine the content of secondary metabolites and the antibacterial activity of extract ethanolic 96% Mangifera foetida L. seeds against Escherichia coli. Phytochemical screening is done by using a test tube method. Antibacterial activity test using agar well diffusion method. The content of secondary metabolites found in Ethanolic extract 96 % of the seed Mangifera foetida L. are flavonoids, tannins, polyphenols, monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, and Quinones. The Results of testing the extracts for antibacterial activity of Mangifera foetida Lour seeds against Escherichia coli bacteria at some concentrations of respectively 10 % , 20 % , 30 % , 40 % , 50 % , 60 % 70 %, 90 % and 100 % have produced diameter in respectively (10.2, 12.03, 14.55, 16:15, 17:18, 18.60, 19:10, 20:20, 21:12) mm, are Characterized by the formation of a clear zone (bakterisid). Telah dilakukan penelitian yang bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi senyawa metabolit sekunder  dari ekstrak daun kaf menggunakan tiga jenis pelarut yakni n-heksan, etil asetat, dan metanol. Ekstrak yang diperoleh diuji aktivitas antibakterinya dengan metode difusi yang menggunakan bakteri Staphylococcusaureus dan Escherichia coli. Dari hasil pengujian fitokimia, ketiga ekstrak tersebut menunjukan bahwa sampel mengandung senyawa; alkaloid, saponin, steroid, flavonoid dan tanin. Pengujian aktivitas antibakteri  dengan metode difusi menunjukan hasil yang paling tinggi aktivitas antibakteri adalah  estrak etil asetat dengan zona hambat 35,75 mm terhadap bakteri  Staphylococcus aureus, sedangkan pada ekstrak metanol memiliki zona hambat 23,75 mm terhadap bakteri Escherichia coliResearch has been carried out aimed at identifying secondary metabolites of kaf leaf extract using three types of solvents, namely n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and methanol.The obtained extracts were tested for antibacterial activity by diffusion method using Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. From the results of phytochemical testing, the three extracts showed that the sample contained compounds; alkaloids, saponins, steroids, flavonoids and tannins. Antibacterial activity testing with diffusion method showed the highest antibacterial activity was estracethyl ethyl acetate with 35.75 mm inhibition zone against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, whereas methanol had 23.75 mm inhibitory zone against Escherichia coli bacteria

Phytochemical screening test proved that the extract of Reeds (Imperata cylindrica) contained phenolic compounds tested using 5% FeCl3 reagent. Antibacterial test using agar diffusion method against Reeds extract in DMSO solvent. The phenolic compounds obtained from the saputangan leaves Reeds extract were 36.96 grams after undergoing maceration. Reeds extract of phenolic compounds with concentrations (200; 100; 50 and 25 ppm) had strength antibacterial where the average inhibition zone of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria was 10.0 mm and the average inhibition zone was at Escherichia coli bacteria measuring 10.3 mm.

ABSTRACT Neem (Azadirachta indica A.Juss) is a plant that potentially developed for antibacterial agent for both the leaves and barks. The aims of this study were to compare the effectiveness of the antibacterial activity of neem leav es and stem barks extract and to identify the antibacterial compounds of the most active fractions. The extraction method was done using sonication method. Antibacterial activity was evaluated using wells solid diffusion method and TLC-Bioautography. Extract fractionation was conducted using liquid-liquid partitioning method. The chemical compounds of extracts and fractions were analyzed using TLC and GCMS. The result of sonication extraction obtained neem leaves oil (12,02%), leaves crude extract (4,3%) and stem barks crude extract (16,85%). The major chemical constituents of GCMS analysis are 2,3-Dihydro-3,5-dihydroxy-6-methyl-4H-pyran-4-one (6,06%), L-proline,1-Acetyl-(CAS) Acetylproline (5,85%), 4-hydroxy-2-methyl-pyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid (21,42%), 2,3-Dyhidrobenzofuran (2,69%), alpha-D-methylglucopyranoside (4,54%), palmitic acid (2,92%), Arabino-hex-1-enitol, 1,5-Anhydro-2-deoxy-(CAS) glucal (31,69%). Phytochemical screening of neem leaves oil, leaves and barks crude extract revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, saponins, triterpenoids, steroids and sterols. Antibacterial test results showed neem leaves oil was more effective than leaves and stem barks crude extract against Escherichia coli. The n-hexane fraction showed higher antibacterial activity than ethyl acetate fraction and ethanol fraction. Phytochemical screening of n-hexane fraction showed the presence of triterpenoids, steroids, sterols and phenols.   Mimba (Azadirachta indica A.Juss) merupakan tanaman yang berpotensi dikembangkan sebagai antibakteri baik bagian daun maupun kulit batang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan efektivitas antibakteri ekstrak daun dan kulit batang mimba terhadap Escherichia coli dan untuk mengidentifikasi golongan senyawa potensial antibakteri pada fraksi teraktif. Pengujian aktivitas antibakteri dilakukan dengan metode difusi padat menggunakan sumuran dan KLT-Bioautografi. Fraksinasi ekstrak dilakukan dengan metode partisi. Komponen kimia ekstrak dan fraksi dianalisis menggunakan KLT dan GCMS. Hasil ekstraksi sonikasi diperoleh minyak daun (12,02%), ekstrak kasar daun (4,3%) dan ekstrak kasar kulit batang (16,85%). Skrining fitokimia menunjukkan minyak daun, ekstrak kasar daun dan ekstrak kulit batang mimba mengandung senyawa alkaloid, flavonoid, fenolik, saponin, triterpenoid, steroid dan sterol. Komponen kimia mayor hasil analisis GCMS minyak daun mimba adalah 2,3-dihydro-3,5-dihydroxy-6-methyl-4H-pyran-4-one (6,06%), L-proline,1-Acetyl-(CAS)Acetylproline (5,85%), 4-hydroxy-2-methyl-pyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid (21,42%), 2,3-dyhidrobenzofuran (2,69%), Alpha-d-methylglucopyranoside (4,54%), Asam Palmitat (2,92%), Arabino-hex-1-enitol, 1,5-anhydro-2-deoxy-(CAS)glucal (31,69%). Hasil uji antibakteri menunjukkan minyak daun lebih efektif menghambat pertumbuhan Escherichia coli dibandingkan dengan ekstrak kasar daun dan kulit batang. Fraksi n-heksan menunjukkan aktivitas antibakteri paling besar dibandingkan dengan fraksi etil asetat dan etanol. Hasil skrining fitokimia fraksi n-heksan menunjukkan adanya senyawa triterpenoid, steroid, sterol dan fenolik.

This study aims to examine the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract and essential oil of Kalamansi citrus leaves (Citrofortunella microcarpa) against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. The raw material of Kalamansi citrus leaves is obtained from the Village of Pondok Kubang, Bengkulu Tengah (3.70060S, 102.35780E). Ethanol extract from Kalamansi citrus leaves was obtained by maceration using ethanol 96%, then ethanol extract was made dilution concentration 40 ; 20; , 10; and 5%. The essential oil of Kalamansi citrus leaves is obtained by water-vapor distillation, then made variations of concentration 20;, 15;, 10;  and 5%. The method used to test the antibacterial activity is the paper disc diffusion method , the antibacterial activity is shown by the diameter of the inhibiting  zone formed. The data of antibacterial test result were analyzed by using One Way Anova test which showed the effect of treatment on the growth of test bacteria seen from the value (P <0,01) and continued by Duncan test to know the effect of the treatment. The results showed that ethanol extract of Kalamansi citrus leaves had antibacterial activity against S. aureus and E. coli bacteria with moderate inhibitory diameter is  7.20 and 5.73 mm at concentration 40%, while antibacterial activity on essential oil of Kalamansi citrus leaves is categorized as strong with inhibition zone diameter is 14.83 and 13.00 mm at concentration 20%.

<p class="Default"><em>Limus (Mangifera foetida Lour.) Is one of the local Indonesian fruits of the anacardiaceae family. Limus contain secondary metabolites that have pharmacological effects, including the kernel waste of the seeds of the fruit. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli on the fraction of kernel seed of limus fruits ethanolic extract in invitro using solid diffusion method with positive control Tetracycline HCl. The extraction process was carried out by maceration method, then fractionation was obtained to obtain the fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate fraction and water fraction. Based on the result of the research, the fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate fraction, and water fraction of kernel ethanol extract limus fruit seed have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The highest activity was shown by fraction of ethyl acetate with minimum killing concentration (KBM) to Staphylococcus aureus was 5% with diameter equal to 4,33 ± 1.17 mm equal to 30,27 μg / mL Tetracycline HCl, and KBM value to Escherichia coli.4% (7.60 ± 0.14) mm equivalent to 26, 04 μg / mL Tetracycline HCl.<br /> <br /> <strong></strong></em></p><p class="Default"><strong><em>Keywords: </em></strong><em>Antibacterial, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Kernel, M. foetida.</em></p>

This work is the first to describe the modulation of antibiotic activity of the bryophyte Octoblepharum albidum Hedw extract. The antibacterial activity of ethanolic extract of O. albidum (EEOa), alone and in association with aminoglycosides, was determined against six bacterial strains by a microdilution test. The results showed a similar inhibitory activity of EEOa against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC 33018 (MICs 512 ?g/mL). The synergistic effect of the extracts and aminoglycosides was also verified. The most pronounced effects were obtained with EEOa + gentamicin against E. coli and EEOa + kanamycin against K. pneumoniae with MICs reduction (128 to 32 ?g/mL). The data from this study are indicative of the antibacterial activity of the bryophyte O. albidum extracts and its potential in modifying the resistance of aminoglycosides analyzed.

In order to authenticate and ascertain the various claim by the rural dwellers that depend on chewing sticks for their oral hygiene and protection against innumerable diseases, the antibacterial activity of the roots of Fagara zanthoxyloides and Distemonanthus benthamianus were evaluated. Preliminary phytochemical screening was carried out using standard methods. In-vitro antibacterial activity of the methanol extracts of both plants was also carried out using the agar well diffusion method against standard strains of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Salmonella typhii ATCC 14028, Citrobacter freundii ATCC 8090 and also some clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Proteus mirabilis at different concentrations and ratios. Preliminary phytochemical screening showed that the extracts contained alkaloids, saponin, tannins, steroids, flavonoids, anthraquinones, cardiac glycosides and phenol. All the test microorganisms were susceptible to the inhibitory effect of the extracts at concentrations of 200 mg/ml and 500 mg/ml. F. zanthoxyloides had better antimicrobial activity with zones of inhibition ranging from 21.0 to 26.0 mm at 200 mg/ml and 24.3 to 29.3 mm at 500 mg/ml while D. benthamianus had zones of inhibition ranging from 17.7 to 26.7 mm at 200 mg/mL and 19.0 to 26.7 mm at 500 mg/mL. Some of the test microorganisms were resistant to the standard antibiotics (cefuroxime, ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin and gentamicin). Combinations of the extracts in ratios 50:50 and 75:25 yielded no increase in activity. The MIC and MBC for D. benthamianus ranged from 6.25 mg/ml to 100 mg/mL and 25 to 200 mg/ml, respectively while that of F. zanthoxyloides ranged from 1.56 mg/ml to 12.5 mg/mL and 50 to 200 mg/ml, respectively. The antimicrobial activity demonstrated by F. zanthoxyloides and D. benthamianus indicates that they would be valuable in the management of urinary, respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts infections while at the same time helping to mitigate the problem of antimicrobial resistance. Objective: Colletotrichium capsici endophytic fungi isolated from Jamblang plant (Eugenia cumini  L).  The secondary metabolites of this plant has the potent antibacterial efficacy  as well as diarrheal and anti-diabetic. This research focussed on isolation of the endophytic microbes from branches of Jamblang plants and their secondary metabolites.Methods: Isolation of endophytes were performed in PDA(potato dextrose agar) using direct seed plant. Endophytic fungi isolates with strongest antimicrobial activity against the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli were fermented in Potato Dextrose Yeast (PDY) to produce  large scale of the metabolites.  Supernatant was extracted with ethyl acetate solvent. Ethyl acetate extract fractionated by column chromatography (SiO3, n-hexane- ethyl acetate = 50:1 ~ 1:1) and obtained three fractions. Further, agar diffusion method was performed to assess their anti-microbial activity.Results:  Antibacterial  test  results  indicated that fraction III had  the antibacterial  activity Staphylococcus aureus with  inhibition zone diameter  of 10.7 mm but no observed antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli.  Furthermore, identification  by GC-MS showed that compounds present in fraction III was mainly fatty acid and phenolic compounds.Conclusion:  In conclusion, secondary metabolites isolated from Jamblang plants branches contained predominantly fatty acid and phenol related compounds that could be responsible for its potent anti microbial activity. Keywords : Endophytic fungi, Jamblang (Eugenia cumini L.), antimicrobial activity

ABSTRACT Algae are a place to live for various microorganisms’ symbiosis with them, and some of them were known to be used as antibacterial. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of associated bacteria isolates from Turbinaria ornata algae obtained from the Bay of Manado against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. In the course of testing the isolation and purification of symbiotic bacteria from Turbinaria ornata algae, then antibacterial activity was testing using agar diffusion method, then gram staining and biochemical tests were carried out including motility test,  tets, carbohydrate fermentation test, citrate test, lysine test, indole test and catalase test. The result showed  that there were 3 bacterial isolates, which had antibacterial activity in medium category against S.aureus and E.coli bacteria. Based on the results of biochemical identification, the isolates that have the greatest inhibitory power, they were thought to belong to genus Bacillus and the genus Yersinia.Keywords : Antibacterial, Symbionic bacteria, Turbinaria ornata (Turner) J.   Agardh. ABSTRAK Alga merupakan tempat hidup berbagai mikroorganisme yang bersimbiosis dengannya, dan beberapa dari spesies alga diketahui sering dimanfaatkan salah satunya  sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui adanya aktivitas antibakteri dari isolat bakteri yang berasosiasi dengan alga Turbinaria ornata yang diperoleh dari Teluk Manado terhadap bakteri  Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli. Dalam pengujian dilakukan isolasi dan purfifikasi bakteri simbion dari alga Turbinari ornata, kemudian dilakukan pengujian aktivitas antibakteri menggunakan metode difusi agar, selanjutnya silakukan pewarnaan gram dan uji biokimia meliputi uji motilitas, uji H2S, uji fermentasi karbohidrat, uji sitrat, uji lisin, uji indol dan uji katalase. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 3 isolat bakteri yang mempunyai daya aktivitas antibakteri dalam kategori sedang terhadap bakteri S. aureus dan E. coli. Berdasarkan hasil identifikasi secara biokimia isolat yang mempunyai daya hambat paling besar diduga termasuk dalam genus Bacillus dan genus Yersinia. Kata kunci : Antibakteri, Bakteri simbion, Turbinaria ornata (Turner) J. The aim of this research is to investigate the antibacterial activity and identify the phytochemical constituents of Mangifera indica leafs on Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus using disc diffusion method. The sample was collected fresh from the premises of Bioresources Development Center (BIODEC), Katsina, Katsina State and was dried and pounded into powder. The powdered leaves were extracted using ethanol and aqueous solvents. Various concentrations ranging from 500mg to 62.5mg were prepared. Test isolates were obtained from the Microbiology laboratory, Umaru Musa Yar’adua University Katsina (UMYUK) and were further authenticated using Gram staining and biochemical test. The bacterial inoculums were standardized to McFarland scale 0.5. Zones of inhibition were read after 24 hours at 370C. The results of the antibacterial study revealed that the ethanolic leaves extracts at 500mg/ml had effect on P. aeruginosa and S. aureus with zones of inhibition of 12mm and 6mm respectively. The results of the phytochemical screening revealed the presence of flavonoids, tannins, saponins, alkaloids and phenols where only alkaloids was found to be absent in the aqueous extract. There is no significant difference between the solvents and various concentrations used base on t-test data analysis.
