In order to promote the practical application of psycholinguistic data in educational fields and expecting that this transfer would enhance the development of both the pedagogical field and the investigation in experimental psycholinguistics, we present two experiments to analyse the production of semantic relations in discourse, especially the causality/countercausality dimension. We found that the pattern of causal advantage is cross-wise and consistent in subjects with different levels of formal education, so it could be a suitable scaffold to develop other aspects of discourse comprehension and production. We compare our results with previous findings about discourse comprehension and interpret the data in the framework of educational processes. To use of empirical evidence about language processing on educational fields allows not only to review specific issues such as the characteristics of teaching materials, but also to improve educational process in a comprehensive way, making possible to adapt different approaches to populations with different characteristics.

This paper examines the use of elements of the theory of algorithms in order to improve the quality of foreign cadets education. A number of problems noted in teaching first-year cadets from Asian and African countries associates with poor knowledge of the Russian language at the time of training. Cadets have different levels of preliminary training that they have received in their countries. Algorithmic constructions help cadets to master the courses of the first year of study. The paper provides a methodological basis on scientific works of leading scientists and professors. According to the management of quality training theory, a respective approach is implemented in the organization of classes. The purpose of this work is substantiation and practical application of the proposed measures for managing the quality of foreign first-year-cadets training through graphic models based on the theory of algorithms. There are options for conducting a training session using a comprehensive teaching methodology, including systematization of knowledge, development of algorithmic thinking and the use of computer technologies. The results of conducting classes according to the proposed methodology show its effectiveness in training groups of foreign cadets.

In this article, a repetitive sampling control chart for the gamma distribution under the indeterminate environment has been presented. The control chart coefficients, probability of in-control, probability of out-of-control, and average run lengths have been determined under the assumption of the symmetrical property of the normal distribution using the neutrosophic interval method. The performance of the designed chart has been evaluated using the average run length measurements under different process settings for an indeterminate environment. In-control and out-of-control nature of the proposed chart under different levels of shifts have been described. The comparison of the proposed chart has been made with the existing chart. A real-world example from the healthcare department has been included for the practical application of the proposed chart. It has been observed from the simulation study and real example that the proposed control chart is efficient in quick monitoring of the out-of-control process. It can be concluded that the proposed control chart can be applied effectively in uncertainty.

Advice, defined as a recommendation for action in response to a problem, is a common form of interpersonal support and influence. Indeed, the advice we give and receive from others can be highly consequential, not only affecting us as recipients and advisors but also shaping outcomes for relationships, groups, and organizations. Some of those consequences are positive, as when advice promotes individual problem solving or enhances workgroup productivity. Yet advice can also hide ulterior motives, threaten identity, damage relationships, and promote inappropriate action. The Oxford Handbook of Advice provides a broad perspective on how advice succeeds and fails, systematically reviewing and synthesizing theory and research on advice from multiple disciplines, such as communication, psychology, applied linguistics, business, law, and medicine. Some chapters examine advice at different levels of analysis, focusing on advisor and recipient roles, advising interactions and relationships, and advice as a resource and connection in groups and networks. Other chapters address advice in particular types of personal relationships (e.g., romantic and family) and professional contexts (e.g., workplace, health, education, and therapy). Authors also consider cultural differences, advice online, and the ethics of advising. For scholars concerned with supportive communication, interpersonal influence, decision making, social networks, and related communication processes at work, at home, and in society at large, the Handbook offers historical perspective, contemporary theoretical framing, methodological recommendations, and directions for future research. The authors also emphasize practical application, offering clear, concise, and relevant “advice for advising” based on theory and research.

Various socio-economic systems (countries, regions, or cities) and their economies suffer different kinds of economic shocks. If the system is not resilient, its economy can incur losses. Only the systems whose economies are less vulnerable and/or are able to recover from the economic shock quite quickly are able to ensure economic sustainability, competitiveness, and welfare both now and in the future. The concepts of socio-economic systems’ resilience to economic shocks, vulnerability, and recovery, as well as the resilience assessment peculiarities, are all analyzed in this article. The methodology introduced for the assessment of a socio-economic system’s resilience to economic shocks consists of two parts: a model of a system’s resilience to the economic shock’s capacity-related factors (Resilio) and an index of a socio-economic system’s resilience to the economic shocks (Resindicis). The Resilio model could be used as a universal methodological framework for analyzing the resilience of socio-economic systems of different levels (countries, regions, or cities). The set of quantitative indicators compiling Resindicis should be adjusted to the specifics of each socio-economic system and the availability of statistical data. Empirically, the methodology was validated on the example of 10 Lithuanian regions (counties). The methodological principles for the assessment of a socio-economic system’s resilience are also provided. The main advantages and drawbacks of the methodology are discussed in order for further development and an increase in its practical application.

Modeling of functioning of systems in infographics allows to consider ojects under investigation at different levels of their complexity, with an important aspect being the qualimetrical assessment of quality of functioning of various systems. Multidimensional scaling found reflection in use of single-layer and multilayered polar systems of coordinates. The composite model displays the dynamics of change of local conditions of process of convergence of norms at the end of each previous phase of process. Examples of practical application of infographic models by producers of vodka products and models for an assessment of parameters of sewage treatment in housing and communal services are reviewed. Similar models gained further development as instruments of management of competitiveness thanks to the development of special software which allows to automate the process of their construction and the analysis of dynamics of occurring changes of controlled parameters.

We used a hierarchical approach to examine patterns of black spruce and balsam fir wood density across Newfoundland. Wood density measurements were aggregated at ring, tree, and plot levels. Portions of the variance in wood density at the different levels were explained by predictor variables at multiple levels of a forest structural hierarchy (ring-, tree-, and plot-level variables). Hierarchical fixed effects models accounted for 39%, 61%, and 86% of the variance in wood density of black spruce at ring, tree, and plot levels, respectively, with RMSE values of 62.7, 34.6, and 19.4 kg·m−3. Corresponding models accounted for 31%, 38%, and 63% of the variance in wood density of balsam fir, with RMSE values of 62.4, 35, and 16.7 kg·m−3. The hierarchical analysis demonstrated consistent negative associations of wood density to radial growth rate at ring, tree, and plot levels of aggregation. Variables that act as surrogates for radial growth are thus important for understanding patterns of wood density at higher scales and for the practical application of mapping wood density across landscapes.

Estimating channel conditions to predict packet delivery can be exploited as a powerful tool to ensure wireless networks dependability. In this article we explore the practical application of this idea from the end-device perspective, using the LoRaWAN protocol stack. We aim to understand if packet delivery can be estimated considering different levels of feedback at the end-device. For that, an extensive data collection campaign is carried out. Through an analysis of the obtained traces, we establish correlations between connectivity metrics at the end node and the fact that a packet is received at the gateway. The study is complemented considering different levels of feedback: (i) No feedback, (ii) enabling acknowledgements frames, and (iii) considering application/control plane data about the channel status at the gateway side. The results show that it is possible to estimate packet delivery in all the evaluated cases.

For different levels of user performance, different types of information are processed and users will make different types of errors. Based on the error's immediate cause and the information being processed, usability problems can be classified into three categories. They are usability problems associated with skill-based, rule-based, knowledge-based levels of performance. In this paper, a user interface for a Web-based software program was evaluated by two groups - human factor experts and users. The experiment discovered that human factor experts are more effective than users in identifying usability problems associated with skill-based and rule-based levels of performance. Users are more effective than human factor experts in finding usability problems associated with the knowledge-based level of performance. The practical application of this research is also discussed in the paper.

Ensuring stable long-term growth of financial and economic results of the economic activity of enterprises in a competitive environment requires the elaboration and implementation of the program of their economic development. It is important that the development was not only absolute but also relative, i.e. accompanied by an increase in the level of the economic efficiency of enterprises. In particular, in conditions of limited volumes and high prices for certain types of economic resources, increasing the level of competitiveness of enterprises can be achieved by reducing the unit cost of these resources. Such a reduction will be achieved based on the implementation of the resource-saving model of the economic development of enterprises. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to establish the essence, highlight the properties and develop indicators for assessing the sustainable resource-saving economic development of enterprises. The author's approach to defining the essence of this type of economic development is presented. It is shown that the sustainable resource-saving economic development can occur at different levels, in particular, at the level of an individual enterprise, industry and the entire economy. At the same time, various generalizing indicators can be used to assess this type of economic development, one of which may be the value-added indicator. It is established that the results of the assessment of sustainable resource-saving economic development of enterprises largely depend on what period is taken as the baseline. A number of properties of the studied type of the economic development of economic entities are singled out. In particular, its most important characteristics include the level of sustainable resource-saving economic development, its uniformity, balance, frequency, and so on. Particular attention is paid to the potential for economic growth and the potential for reducing the consumption of economic resources. Indicators for assessing the properties of sustainable resource-saving economic development of enterprises are proposed. The practical application of the proposed indicators for assessing the properties of sustainable resource-saving economic development will make it possible to provide a detailed description and identify reserves for intensification in the future.
