The aim of this chapter is to present the state of the art of academic research in the intersection between circular economy and tourism, trying to identify the approaches used by authors when studying the application of circular economy principles and initiatives in the tourism industry. For this purpose, a systematic search in ISI Web of Science and Scopus databases was performed. The characterization of research carried out in this field, with both a bibliometric and bibliographic analysis, is offered, presenting a detailed picture of the content of the research carried out in the abovementioned intersection, synthesizing what has been done so far. To conclude, a research agenda is proposed to develop this still understudied domain.

Purpose This study aims to investigate the Big Social Data (BSD) paradigm, which still lacks a clear and shared definition, and causes a lack of clarity and understanding about its beneficial opportunities for practitioners. In the knowledge management (KM) domain, a clear characterization of the BSD paradigm can lead to more effective and efficient KM strategies, processes and systems that leverage a huge amount of structured and unstructured data sources. Design/methodology/approach The study adopts a systematic literature review (SLR) methodology based on a mixed analysis approach (unsupervised machine learning and human-based) applied to 199 research articles on BSD topics extracted from Scopus and Web of Science. In particular, machine learning processing has been implemented by using topic extraction and hierarchical clustering techniques. Findings The paper provides a threefold contribution: a conceptualization and a consensual definition of the BSD paradigm through the identification of four key conceptual pillars (i.e. sources, properties, technology and value exploitation); a characterization of the taxonomy of BSD data type that extends previous works on this topic; a research agenda for future research studies on BSD and its applications along with a KM perspective. Research limitations/implications The main limits of the research rely on the list of articles considered for the literature review that could be enlarged by considering further sources (in addition to Scopus and Web of Science) and/or further languages (in addition to English) and/or further years (the review considers papers published until 2018). Research implications concern the development of a research agenda organized along with five thematic issues, which can feed future research to deepen the paradigm of BSD and explore linkages with the KM field. Practical implications Practical implications concern the usage of the proposed definition of BSD to purposefully design applications and services based on BSD in knowledge-intensive domains to generate value for citizens, individuals, companies and territories. Originality/value The original contribution concerns the definition of the big data social paradigm built through an SLR the combines machine learning processing and human-based processing. Moreover, the research agenda deriving from the study contributes to investigate the BSD paradigm in the wider domain of KM.

Economic activity today is still based on a linear model of production and consumption: extract/produce and consume/throw, which exhausts natural resources and generates waste. The current linear economy does not optimize materials nor favour their recycling, reuse or recovery. Hence, the concept of Circular Economy (CE) has received increasing attention between policymakers and stakeholders worldwide. However, the literature on CE was mainly developed for the manufacturing sector, and only a few references are found on the tourism sector even though it is a sector where huge consumption of energy and water, food waste, congestion problems and CO2 emissions take place. This work aims to evaluate the importance of tourism in the CE literature and to identify current research trends and possible gaps in the literature on CE and tourism. In order to identify papers for this, the authors carried out a literature review of papers in the social science citation index (Web of Science) and Scopus. The keywords used are related to the tourism sector and CE, and the last search was made at the end of January 2020. Only papers published in English have been considered in the sample, which totals to 55 articles. Each contribution is analysed and, according to its content, classified into eight streams; then, the paper identifies two knowledge areas in tourism that this scientific production covers and the areas with lack of knowledge generated. Findings show that more research is needed about tourism’s intersection with CE in order to generate possible solutions towards a more sustainable tourism industry.

Abstract Background Environmental research and research on mental and neurological disorders remains largely separated. Research methods in both fields are different using diverse approaches. Aim of this talk is to highlight differences and commonalities in research methods in the fields of environmental and neuropsychiatric epidemiology. Methods A scoping review of methods was preformed using databases such as PUBMED, ISI Web of Science, Embase, CINHAL and PSYCHINFO. Results The search yielded several hundred citations. The search will be updated in July 2019 to provide the most recent results in the workshop. So far the review suggests that the fields of environmental epidemiology and neuropsychiatric epidemiology still are separated. Discussion: Approaches to build a joint research agenda will be discussed. Some methods which are used in both subdisciplines of epidemiology will be described in detail in the workshop. Likewise, challenges in collaboration will be discussed with the audience. This discussion with workshop participants is a possibility to learn from each other and build interdisciplinary bridges.

Purpose - To analyze whether the concepts of industry 4.0 and circular economy are integrated or disjointed, recognizing in the literature what the keywords are most frequent in this relationship and its occurrence. Design/methodology/approach – The research method was the bibliometric study and keyword study, in order to recognize which are the most latent actions and strategies in the study of integration. The VOSviewer software was used for the study of keywords. Findings - It is stated that the concepts of industry 4.0 and circular economy can be considered interconnected, with some limitations explored in the article, and also proposed future research opportunities on the topic. Originality/value - It contributes to business managers in the sense that it facilitates the understanding that industry 4.0 and the circular economy can be worked together. The result of the keywords will guide what skills, strategies, technologies and fundamentals the company should develop to make the circular economy effective, through industry 4.0. For academic research, another study was contributed on the integration of industry 4.0 and circular economy, which are few in the literature. Keywords were also mapped, which until then, had not been developed in existing integration articles, in addition to proposing a framework that can be transformed and signal research opportunities. Keywords - Industry 4.0; Circular Economy; Integration; Sustainability; Future research.

The study gives an overview and critique and identifies literature on university knowledge management (KM) research to ascertain gaps for further investigation. A systematic search of articles about university KM research in the Web of Science and Scopus was scrutinised using pre-defined criteria. After screening, 46 articles that met the selection criteria were reviewed. Findings revealed that the academic aspects are over-explored with some KM themes, whereas the non-academic university KM is under-explored. Moreover, the reviewed literature showed that the university KM cut across significant countries of the world with a large concentration of the research articles in USA, UK, and Malaysia. The study proffered ways of advancing university KM research agenda in the future by considering the under-explored contexts for more meaningful contributions to KM practice and theory development.

This work aimed to understand the intellectual structure that connects the themes of Strategy and Sustainability, from the analysis of academic production in high impact factor journals, through a bibliometric research. The justification for this study is due to the fact that there is no review that connects the strategy and sustainability relationship, although many researchers recognize the theme as a strategic challenge for companies. The research method was bibliometric and data collection took place on the ISI Web of Science platform. According to the results, the publication of articles on strategy and sustainability has increased considerably in recent years. The results indicate that three intellectual bases have influenced the study of strategy and sustainability: the first deals with the relation of sustainability and competitiveness; The second is related to the resources / capabilities for the competitive advantage with sustainability; The third, the influence of the environment on the competitive advantage considering sustainability. A set of future studies based on the results is suggested.

The aim of this chapter is to present a research agenda that can help to advance the generation of scientific knowledge intended to support the implementation of circular economy initiatives in the tourism industry. In this line, a decalogue was used as a starting point, which was checked with academics and professionals in this field in order to refine the initial proposal and enrich it with new research opportunities and challenges. As a result, a research framework has been created and organized into four sections, according to their nature: economic/business, social, environmental, and cross-sectional. Nevertheless, in spite of the particular character of each of them, their interconnections are also underlined in order to contribute to the progressive development of a more circular tourism economy.

This conceptual paper proposes a new research agenda in travel risk research by understanding the role of affect. Extant scholarship tends to focus on travel risk perception or assessment as a cognitive psychological process. However, despite the phenomenal growth of the tourism industry globally, research related to travel risk perception remains stagnant with no significant breakthrough. Drawing on the existing empirical evidences in risk-related research, this paper asserts that affect plays a potent role in influencing travel risk perception – positive affect leads to more positive travel risk perception, vice versa. In this paper, existing empirical evidences and theories are presented to provide support for this proposition.

Purpose Academic research into entrepreneurship policy is particularly interesting due to the increasing relevance of the topic and since knowledge about the evolution of themes in this field is still rather limited. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the key concepts, topics, trends and shifts that have shaped the entrepreneurship policy research agenda during the period 1990–2016. Design/methodology/approach This paper uses text mining techniques, cluster analysis and complementary bibliographic data to examine the evolution of a corpus of 1,048 academic papers focused on entrepreneurship-related policies and published during the period 1990–2016 in ten relevant journals. In particular, the paper follows a standard text mining workflow: first, as text is unstructured, content requires a set of pre-processing tasks and then a stemming process. Then, the paper examines the most repeated concepts within the corpus, considering the whole period 1990–2016 and also in five-year terms. Finally, the paper conducts a k-means clustering to divide the collection of documents into coherent groups with similar content. The analyses in the paper also include geographical particularities considering three regional sub-corpora, distinguishing those articles authored in the European Union (EU), the USA and South and Eastern Asia, respectively. Findings Results of the analysis show that inclusion, employment and regulation-related papers have largely dominated the research in the field, evolving from an initial classical approach to the relationship between entrepreneurship and employment to a wider, multidisciplinary perspective, including the relevance of management, geographies and narrower topics such as agglomeration economics or internationalisation instead of the previous generic sectorial approaches. The text mining analysis also reveals how entrepreneurship policy research has gained increasing attention and has become both more open, with a growing cooperation among researchers from different affiliations, and more sophisticated, with concepts and themes that moved the research agenda forward, closer to the priorities of policy implementation. Research limitations/implications The paper identifies main trends and research gaps in the field of entrepreneurship policy providing actionable knowledge by presenting the spectrum of both over-explored and understudied research themes in the field. In practical terms the results of the text mining analysis can be interpreted as a compass to navigate the entrepreneurship policy research agenda. Practical implications The paper presents the heterogeneity of topics under research in the field, reinforcing the concept of entrepreneurship as a multidisciplinary and dynamic domain. Therefore, the definition and adoption of a certain policy agenda in entrepreneurship should consider multiple aspects (needs, objectives, stakeholders, expected outputs, etc.) to be comprehensive and aligned with its complexity. In addition, the paper shows how text mining techniques could be used to map the research activity in a particular field, contributing to the challenge of linking research and policy. Originality/value The exploratory nature of text mining allows us to obtain new knowledge and reveals hidden patterns from large quantities of documents/text data, representing an opportunity to complement other qualitative reviews. In this sense, the main value of this paper is not to advise on the future configuration of entrepreneurship policy as a research topic, but to unwrap the past by unveiling how key themes of the entrepreneurship policy research agenda have emerged, evolved and/or declined over time as a foundation on which to build further developments.
