 This study aimed to evaluate the effects of oat or ryegrass over seeding on the productive characteristics and morphological composition of Tifton85 grass under continuous grazing. The three studied treatments were: Oat + Tifton85, Ryegrass + Tifton85 and Tifton85, distributed in a completely randomized design, constituting four replications of area per treatment. The Ryegrass + Tifton85 treatment presented a forage mass 27% superior to the Oat + Tifton85 treatment. The leaf percentage of Tifton85 was superior for the treatment Oat + Tifton85 (41%), while the percentage of stem + sheath was superior in the treatment Ryegrass + Tifton85 (64%). There was a higher percentage of Tifton85 leaves in the treatment Oat + Tifton85, while the Ryegrass + Tifton85 treatment presented a higher proportion of the stem + sheath constituent. Overfeeding species of temperate climate has proven to be a viable alternative, since it potentiates the weight gain of animals without damaging the productive re-establishment of Tifton85.

Mortality of perinatal lambs and low weight at weaning cause huge liabilities to farmers. Current study describes maternal-filial behavior and evaluates the use of maternal behavior score (MBS) to estimate the behavior of ewes and lambs soon after birth, and correlate it with lamb mortality and performance during lactation. Thirty-seven Corriedale ewes were used in a completely randomized design. MBS was assessed up to 24 hours after birth, taking into consideration the distance of the ewe from the lamb at the approach of a person. Maternal behavior, placental weight, weight gain of the lambs until weaning and their survival rate were also evaluated until two hours after lambing. More than 90% of the ewes had adequate maternal behavior, with parental care, even though ewes were very sensitive to the presence of people. There was no significant correlation between MBS and maternal behavior, lamb mortality rate and live weight gain. Under these conditions, MBS was not a useful tool to estimate maternal behavior and performance of lambs.

EFFECT OF REPLACEMENT OF CORN WITH SORGUM Cv. KAWALI IN PELLET RANSUM ON LOCAL RABBIT PERFORM. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of substitution corn with sorghum in rabbit rations on feed consumption, body weight gain, and ration conversion. The duration of the study was 28 days using 20 local rabbits. The statistical design used in this study was a completely randomized design, with 4 (four) treatment rations and 5 (five) replications. The four experimental rations, namely R0: 45% corn + 0% sorghum, R1: 30% corn + 15% sorghum, R2 15% corn + 30% sorghum, R3 0% corn + 45% sorghum. Variables were measured, viz: feed consumption, body weight gain and ration conversion. The results showed that the average of feed consumption, body weight gain, and feed conversion, were: 28.27–30.59 g /head /day, 15.76–21.55 g / head /day, and 1.42-1.80 g /head /day, respectively. Based on the analysis of variance, the treatments ration had no significant effect (P> 0.05) on consumption, but had a very significant effect (P <0.01) on body weight gain and feed conversion. The LSD test showed that all treatment rations using sorghum (R1, R2, and R3) gave results of body weight gain which were very significantly different (P <0.01) and higher than R0. Whereas, on ration conversion, treatments R1, R2, and R3 give very different results (P <0.01) lower than R0. It is concluded that the substitution of corn with sorghum at the level of 45% in the ration gives the highest results for body weight gain and conversion of rations for rabbits. Keywords: corn, sorghum, ration, performance, local rabbit

Abstract One of the management techniques used in greens (final areas of the holes) of golf course is the fertilizer. To correct fertilization program of these areas should know the consumption of nutrients throughout the plant cycle. The objective was to determine the export of nutrients by clipping of Tifdwarf bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers. x Cynodon transvaalensis Burtt-Davey) used in golf courses greens in the four weather seasons, as information to improve nutritional management. The research project was conducted in two golf courses in Sao Paulo State. Four greens were studied in each field, for a period of one year, using a 4x2 factorial (weather seasons x golf courses) in a completely randomized design. The production of dry matter and nutrient concentration were evaluated, and the absorption and exportation of nutrients by leaf clippings was subsequently calculated. The amount of nutrients exported by turfgrass clippings was different between the two golf courses. The summer was the season of greatest accumulation and export of nutrients in FG, except for Fe. Autumn was the season of greatest accumulation and export of nutrients in FCA, except for Mn and Zn. Considering the amount of nutrients exported by the greens clippings of the Tifdwarf bermudagrass from the two golf courses studied, the macronutrients were exported in the following order: N>K>Ca>P>S>Mg (21.8, 4.3, 2.0, 1.9, 1.8, 0.7 g m-2) and the micronutrients were exported in the following order: Fe>Zn>Mn>Cu>B (257.8, 27.4, 23.6, 7.8, 6.0 mg m-2).

Abstract Previous research demonstrates grazing tall fescue can decrease reproductive performance and weight gain in cattle. The objective of this study was to evaluate Fescue EMTTM Mineral Defense (Cargill Animal Nutrition, Minneapolis, MN) on summer weight gain in cattle grazing tall fescue pastures in SW Missouri. Heifers (n = 120; initial BW = 236 ± 2.5 kg) were stratified by weight to replicated tall fescue pastures to either a control mineral treatment or Fescue EMT™ Mineral Defense treatment. Forage availability was estimated weekly by ultrasonic sensor. Pasture samples were collected every 21 d and analyzed for ergovaline concentrations. Heifer weights and blood prolactin were measured throughout the trial. Average daily mineral consumption was calculated by mineral offered less residual. Data were analyzed on a pen-mean basis as a completely randomized design using JMP with 6 pens/ treatment and 10 heifers/pen. Prolactin was analyzed as Repeated Measures in JMP. Initial weights between treatments were not different (P > 0.05). Endophyte infection measured 75% or greater in all pastures. No differences were detected in pasture ergovaline (149 ± 19 µg/kg) or pasture availability (2,600 ± 150 kg/ha) between treatments (P > 0.20 at each sampling). Heifer ADG consuming Fescue EMT™ Mineral Defense compared to control mineral was greater at 0.28 kg versus 0.22 kg resulting in total gains of 21.8 kg versus 16.6 kg, respectively (P < 0.05). However, blood prolactin numerically decreased over time in both treatments. Results from this trial demonstrate a 31% improvement in weight gain for cattle consuming Fescue EMTTM Mineral Defense compared with cattle consuming a control mineral while grazing toxic tall fescue.

This study aimed to assess the effect of stocking density of 10, 12, 14, and 16 birds m?2 on performance, carcass and cut yields, productivity, and bone development of broiler chickens Cobb 500®. The experimental design was completely randomized design with four treatments (stocking densities) and four replications. The assessments were performed weekly at 1, 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, and 42 days. The best live weight result was found at a density of 10 birds m?2 in the period from 1 to 7 days. No effect of density was observed on feed intake and weight gain. From 1 to 14 days, the best live weights were found at densities of 10, 12, and 14 birds m?2, in addition to a higher feed intake at densities of 10 and 12 birds m?2. Weight gain was better at a density of 10 birds m?2, showing no differences from densities of 12 and 14 birds m?2. In the period from 1 to 21 days, live weight and weight gain were higher at densities of 10, 12, and 14 birds m?2. The highest feed intake was observed at a density of 10 birds m?2, which showed no difference from the density of 14 birds m?2. A difference (P < 0.05) was observed for live weight, weight gain, and feed intake of animals reared at densities of 10, 12, and 14 birds m?2 for the phases from 1 to 35 days and the total phase from 1 to 42 days of bird age when compared to 16 birds m?2, which presented lower performance. However, feed conversion of 1-7, 1-14, 1-21, 1-35, and 1-42 days and carcass and cut characteristics showed no significant differences for all treatments. On the other hand, productivity was higher in the treatments with 14 and 16 birds m?2, but without difference between each other. No interaction (P > 0.05) was observed between stocking density and age for the assessed bone parameters. Similarly, no difference (P > 0.05) was observed for bone development of broiler chickens reared at different stocking densities for the studied parameters. Thus, the increased density of 10 or 12 birds m?2 to 14 birds m?2 has no influence on zootechnical performance, carcass and cut yields, and bone development, but increases broiler chicken productivity reared in a conventional shed without air conditioning.

The aims of this research was to study the effect of using fermented onggok in ransum to native chicken performance. The design used was completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatment i.e : R1 (10%), R2 (15%), R3 (20%), R4 (25%) and R5 (30%) with 4 replications. The ransum was composed with  protein (18%) and  calorie (2900 kcal/kg). Result of research shows that using fermented onggok had highly significant effect (P< 0.05) towards the feed consumption, body weight gain and feed conversion  of buras. It was concluded that using fermented onggok could increase highly body weight at level 15%.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of soursop leaf (Annona muricata), saffron white (Curcuma mangga Val.) and cherry leaves (Muntingia calabura L.) and theirs combinations in drinking water on performances and blood cholesterol  of  laying roosters that infected by Escherichia coli. This study was designed using  completely randomized design (CRD) with 11 treatments and 3 replications and each treatment using the 4 roosters. That obtained 33 experimental units. The treatments were the drinking water contain decoction of  soursop leaves (DS), saffron white (KP) and cherry leaves (DK), and combinations were as follows: R0: without decoction of herbs (control), R1: 6% of DS decoction, R2: 6% of KP decoction, R3: 6 % of  DK decoction, R4: 2% of  DS decoction + 4% of KP decoction, R5: 2% of  DS decoction + 4% of DK decoction, R6: 2%  of KP decoction + 4% of DS decoction, R7: 2% of KP decoction  + 4% of DK decoction, R8: 2% of DK decoction + 4% of DS decoction, R9: 2% of  DK decoction + 4% of KP decoction, R10: 2%  of DS decoction + 2% of KP decoction + 2% of DK decoction. Parameters of  performance were: feed consumption, water intake, body weight gain, feed conversion. The result showed that the treatment had no effect on the performances (feed consumption, water consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion).

Corn is one of the cereals that has strategic and economic value and has the opportunity to be developed. The attack of the Sitophilus Zeamais Motsch species becomes one of the obstacles in the process of storing corn. This study aims to develop the potential of plant biopesticides from grinting grass to control the warehouse pests of Sitophilus Zeamais Motsch. This research is a laboratory based experimental study. The independent variables in this study were the gram weight of grinting grass extract and the number of Sitophilus Zeamais Motsch pests. The dependent variable in this study was the mortality of Sitophilus Zeamais Motsch. Grinting grass extract is obtained using maceration method. Qualitative and quantitative tests were carried out to test the active compound content of grinting grass. Vegetable biopesticide toxicity tests were carried out using a completely randomized design. The results showed that variations in the weight of grinting grass affect the content of chemical compounds present in the grass. Based on UV-Vis and FTIR spectra, the content of polyphenols, alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, steroids, and saponins contains 20 gr / 100 mL, there are flavonoids as much, 2.38 mg / mL, saponins as 2.04 mg / mL, alkaloids as much as 1.79 mg / mL, polyphenols 3.15 mg / mL, steroids as much as 2.24 mg / mL and terpenoids as much as 3.15 mg / mL. Based on qualitative tests the active compound is evidenced by changes in color and deposition. While based on pest mortality tests, it was found that almost 50 percent of grinting grass extract can kill corn pests within a period of 7 days of observation with an extract concentration of 800 ppm. Abstract Twenty stock-type horses (589 ± 126 kg BW; 13 ± 8 yr) were utilized in a completely randomized design for a 28-d trial to evaluate a joint supplement on gait kinematics, inflammation and cartilage metabolism. Horses were stratified by age, sex, body weight (BW), and initial lameness score and were randomly assigned to 1 of 2 dietary treatments consisting of either a 100 g placebo top-dressed daily to 0.6% BW (as-fed) commercial concentrate (CON; n = 10), or an oral joint supplement (SmartPak Equine LLC) containing glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate, hyaluronic acid, methylsulfonylmethane, turmeric, resveratrol, collagen, silica, and boron (TRT; n = 10). Horses had ad libitum access to coastal bermudagrass hay (Cynodon dactylon) and exercised progressively 4 d/wk, for 45 min/d. On d 13 and 27, blood was harvested following a 19.3 km exercise stressor. Every 14 d, blood was collected for plasma prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), and serum collagenase cleavage neopeptide (C2C), carboxypropeptide of type II collagen (CPII), and chondroitin sulfate 846 epitope (CS846). Gait kinematics were analyzed every 14 d (Kinovea v.0.8.15) to determine stride length (SL) and range of motion (ROM) of the knee and hock at the walk and trot. Data were analyzed using PROC MIXED of SAS. Hock ROM increased in TRT (P ≤ 0.02) at the walk and tended to increase at the trot (P = 0.09). At the walk, SL and knee ROM increased (P ≤ 0.01) in all horses. C2C and CPII increased over time (P ≤ 0.05) and no effect was observed for CS846 or PGE2 (P &gt; 0.12). In response to the exercise stressor, CPII and PGE2 decreased (P ≤ 0.05) from d 13 to 14, and CS846 and PGE2 tended to decrease (P ≤ 0.10) from d 27 to 28, independent of diet. In conclusion, hock ROM at the walk and trot was the most sensitive to TRT, but biomarker concentration of collagen metabolites and systemic inflammation was not altered in 28 d.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance and economic indicators of baby goats region submitted to different feeding systems in the Semiarid. A total of 30 baby goats of breed Parda Alpina × without defined racial pattern (SPRD) with initial weight of 3.35 kg ± 0.65 kg and final weight of 12.3 kg ± 0.5 kg were used, distributed in a completely randomized design in three breastfeeding systems with ten replicates each: traditional system (with natural breastfeeding), intensive breastfeeding system without concentrated supplementation, and intensive breastfeeding with concentrated supplementation. Goats submitted to the intensive artificial feeding system without concentrated supplementation showed a similar weight gain (121 g/day) when compared to the goats submitted to the system of suckling with concentrated supplementation (126 g/day). The highest income was provided by the animals submitted to the intensive system of suckling with concentrate. The gross margin for the two centenarians was positive, that is, revenues are higher than the effective operating cost, allowing us to conclude that the activity is paying off and will survive, at least in the short term. The diet of kids using concentrate provided better dry matter intake, greater weight gain and consequently presented better economic indicators.
