The aims of this study were to evaluate the superovulatory response (SR), embryo quality and embryonic development in Katahdin ewes that received a dietary supplement of palm oil (PO). Ten ewes were assigned to receive 35 g palm oil (n = 10, PO3) and 10 to receive 70 g palm oil (n = 10, PO6) for 25 days. On day 0, the ewes were synchronized with 0.3 mg progesterone-releasing devices (CIDR-G®). From days 6 to 9, the donors were superovulated with 200 mg follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) (Folltropin-V®) at decreasing doses every 12 hours (40 - 40, 30 - 30, 20 - 20 and 10 - 10 mg/ewe). On day 8, the devices were removed and donors were mated twice with fertile rams at 12-h intervals. Seven days after mating, the embryos were recovered and evaluated for their stage of development and quality grade (1 = excellent, 2 = good, 3 = bad and 4 = degenerated). In addition, on days 0, 7 and 15, blood samples were taken to determine cholesterol, triglycerides, insulin and insulin-Iike growth factor-1 (IGF-1) concentrations in serum blood. Using chi-square and t-tests, the superovulatory response (SR), ovulation rate (OR), total embryonic structures (TES), transferable embryos (TE), degenerated embryos (DEs) and developmental stage and quality were evaluated. No significant differences were observed between treatments for SR, OR, TES and TE variables or for cholesterol, triglycerides, insulin and IGF-1 concentrations. There were differences in the numbers of DE, as well as a trend for more homogeneous developmental stage in the embryos of ewes supplemented with PO6, as well as a higher number of quality 1 embryos and lower numbers of quality 3 and 4 embryos. Palm oil supplementation could be a recommendable practice to improve the quality of embryos and homogenous developmental stage (morula and blastocyst). Keywords: Fatty acids, ovarian activity, sheep

This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of adding sucrose in vitrification solution of ovine embryos produced in vivo. Forty Dorper ewes were selected and superovulated. Immediately prior to the embryo collection by laparotomy, a laparoscopy was performed to verify the superovulatory response. The recovered flushing was followed by embryo evaluation and embryos were divided in two experimental groups where embryos from Control group were submitted to a traditional vitrification protocol and embryos from Sucrose group to a modified vitrification protocol with sucrose. After warming, embryos were again divided regarding cryoprotectant removal (Indirect) or not (Direct). The embryo quality was classified as embryos of degrees I (excellent or good), II (regular), III (poor) and IV (dead or degenerate). It was also verified the homogeneity of mass, occurrence of embryonic mass retraction and rupture of pellucid zone. The results were expressed as percentages and were subjected to Chi-square test with P < 0.05. The embryos vitrified in the presence of sucrose had lower proportions of lower-quality embryos after warming (22.20 vs. 44.50%), higher percentages of homogeneous embryos after warming (63.89 vs. 38.89 %) while concerning other parameters there was no difference between these groups. It can be concluded that the addition of 0.4 M sucrose during vitrification improves the embryo quality.

The experiment was conducted to investigate the Ovarian response and embryo quality using different doses of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH-P) in North Omani Cattle breed (NOC) in order to determine the suitable dose. Eighteen donor NOC were divided into three groups (G1, G2, and G3) comprising of six cows in each group and treated with 20 (G1), 25 (G2) and 30 mg FSH (G3). Ovarian response was recorded as development of corpus luteum (CL), unovulated follicles (UOF), unfertilized ova (UFO), recovered embryo (RE) and transferable embryos (TE). Embryos were flushed seven days after the first AI and classified according to the developmental stage and quality. Results showed that, cows superovulated with FSH (G3) increased significantly (P less than 0.05) number of CLs and number of RE (6.83 and 5.33 /flushed cow) compared with the G1 of FSH (3.17 and 2.00/flushed cow) and G2 (4.67 and 3.00/flushed cow). While using FSH in (G2) increased significantly (P less than 0.05) the number of TE (excellent and good) quality, decreased average number of UOF and UFO (2.84, 3.33 and 0.67/flush) compared with FSH G3 (1.83, 5.67 and 1.50/flush). While no significant difference was observed in TE number between G1 and G2. G3 groups producing embryos at early stages of development (4 and 8 cells) and this was undesirable for embryo transfer program as this treatment (30 mg) produced more number of fair, poor and degenerated embryos compared with 20 and 25 mg FSH. Consequently, 25 mg FSH dose increased number of TE, decreased number of UOF and UFO, and that was the suitable dose for superovulation of NOC.

Eight cows with calves in pens were fed native tropical pasture hay harvested at intervals throughout the wet season. Four of the cows were supplemented with phosphorus. When pastures matured and declined in quality, calves were weaned and their dams were firstly group-fed hay in yards and later allowed to graze native pasture. One group continued to receive phosphorus supplement and both groups were supplied with protein supplement to offset possible deficiency. During the pen feeding period, none of the cows exhibited oestrus and plasma progesterone declined as the quality of the hay fell; the cows were refractory to treatment with luteolytic prostaglandin. Some four months after the commencement of protein supplementation, two cows from the group receiving phosphorus supplement exhibited oestrus. Three cows from each group had elevated plasma progesterone levels, and these animals all exhibited oestrus following treatment with prostaglandin. Phosphorus supplementation had no significant effect on feed intake, liveweight change or milk production. Blood inorganic phosphorus was significantly increased by treatment but bone phosphorus was not. It was concluded that phosphorus supplementation alone had no significant effect on reproductive activity. If cows received adequate protein, however, oestrus activity was markedly increased whether phosphorus was supplemented or not.

Abstract This study aimed to determine the use of various doses of FSH hormone, the number of lutheum corpus and the number and quality of embryos produced in the superovulation program in Pesisir cattle. The experimental design was Analysis of Variance (Anova) in a completely randomized design. The research material used 16 cows from Pesisir cattle that had been synchronized with estrous with CIDR implants for 13 days and were injected with the PGF2α hormone after the release of CIDR, then scheduled AI was performed. The dose of FSH hormone was 16 ml, 17 ml, 18 ml and 19 ml, each treatment consisting of 4 replications. The injection of the FSH hormone was carried out for 3 days at a decreased dose. Collection of donor embryos was carried out on days 6 to 8 after the scheduled AI. The parameters observed included superovulation response, number of corpus luteum, number of embryos and quality of embryos. The results showed that the response of Pesisir cattle superovulation was 81.25%. The average number of CL obtained was 13.75 and embryos for Pesisir cattle was 11.25. The results also showed that the quality of the embryos obtained were grade A 19, grade B 18, grade C 7, grade D 1. It can be concluded that the use of various doses of FSH hormone at doses of 16 mg, 17 ml, 18 ml and 19 ml had shown a superovulatory response. The 17 ml dose of FSH hormone showed a large number of embryos and had the best embryo quality.

The effects of feeding urea on embryo production, quality and developmental stages and follicular status at the beginning of a superovulatory treatment of Toggenburg does fed urea diet were investigated in this study. Eighteen females were randomly allocated to receive diets with: no urea (control, n=8), and 2.4% urea dietary dry matter (n=10) UDM. The embryo recovery was performed at day 7 or 8 of estrus cycle by transcervical technique and classified according to quality and developmental stage. The follicular status was determined by transrectal ultrasonography at the first day of FSH injection. The number and quality of embryos were not affected by dietary urea concentration. Embryos from does treated with 2.4% UDM were recovered at advanced stage. Urea concentration (2.4%) decreases the number of follicles with less than 5 mm diameter. This follicle class is positively correlated to the number of recovered embryos and to the number and percentage of excellent and good embryos.

ABSTRACTIndonesia is the world's largest producer of crude palm oil (CPO). Even so, the trend of international trade in Indonesian CPO products has decreased in the last 10 years with a value of -10.19%. The decline in world demand for CPO can be dealt with by utilizing CPO as a biofuel for domestic use, like biodiesel. The purpose of this study is to determine the competitiveness of Indonesian CPO in global trade and determine the parameters of the quality requirements of CPO and biodiesel. The competitiveness analysis method uses the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) method, while the analysis of the potential quality of CPO as a biofuel is carried out by analyzing the Indonesian National Standard (SNI). CPO trade in the global market is controlled by Indonesia with a market share of 50% and Malaysia 25.6%, with the declining trade trend in the last 10 years relatively (2010-2019) of -6.91%. The level of competitiveness of Indonesian CPO products in 2019 is very strong, but on average in the last 10 years, the level of competitiveness of Indonesian CPO is no better than that of Malaysia. Indonesia has SNI 01-2901-2006 and SNI 7182: 2015 as a determinant of the quality of CPO and biodiesel products developed in Indonesia so that the CPO and biodiesel produced fullfil sacurity and safety aspects when used by consumers. Keywords: crude palm oil (CPO), competitivenessv, quality, Indonesian National Standard (SNI) ABSTRAKIndonesia merupakan negara produsen minyak kelapa sawit mentah/ Crude Palm Oil (CPO) terbesar di dunia.

Objective: To predict the quality of anticoagulation control in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) receiving warfarin in Thailand. Materials and Methods: The present study retrospectively recruited Thai AF patients receiving warfarin for three months or longer between June 2012 and December 2017 in Central Chest Institute of Thailand. The patients were classified into those with SAMe-TT₂R₂ of 2 or less, and 3 or more. The Chi-square test or Fisher’s exact test was used to compare the proportion of the patients with poor time in therapeutic range (TTR) between the two groups of SAMe-TT₂R₂ score. The discrimination performance of SAMe-TT₂R₂ score was demonstrated with c-statistics. Results: Ninety AF patients were enrolled. An average age was 69.89±10.04 years. Most patients were persistent AF. An average CHA₂DS₂-VASc, SAMe-TT₂R₂, and HAS-BLED score were 3.68±1.51, 3.26±0.88, and 1.98±0.85, respectively. The present study showed the increased proportion of AF patients with poor TTR with higher SAMe-TT₂R₂ score. The AF patients with SAMe-TT₂R₂ score of 3 or more had a larger proportion of patients with poor TTR than those with SAMe-TT₂R₂ score of 2 or less with statistical significance when TTR was below 70% (p=0.03) and 65% (p=0.04), respectively. The discrimination performance of SAMe-TT₂R₂ score was demonstrated with c-statistics of 0.60, 0.59, and 0.55 when TTR was below 70%, 65% and 60%, respectively. Conclusion: Thai AF patients receiving warfarin had a larger proportion of patients with poor TTR when the SAMe-TT₂R₂ score was higher. The score of 3 or more could predict poor quality of anticoagulation control in those patients. Keywords: Time in therapeutic range, Poor quality of anticoagulation control, Warfarin, SAMe-TT₂R₂, Labile INR
