The assessment process did not end by only making questions. They will arrive at the analysis of the questions quality. Item analysis is performed to determine the quality of the questions items arranged. Good quality items will greatly affect the results of the assessment and properly capturing the results of learning. The purpose of this study is to analyze the Social Sciences question items for fifth grade of elementary school using the classic ITEMAN focusing on the characteristics of the level of difficulty, the discrimation power, and the functioning of distractor of items. This research is a descriptive study with quantitative research. Subjects were 370 elementary school students in Serang City. The instrument analuzed was made in the form of 20 items of multiple choices with four answer option. The instrument was validated by the content expert and estimated the reliability by using the KR-20 method by reliability index of 0.75 obtained. The data analysis technique used ITEMAN software to see the characteristics of items that contain the level of difficulty, discrimination power and disctractor’ function. The results showed that 80% of the difficulty level were in the medium category, 90% of the dircrimination power items were in the good category, and 90% of the distractors had well-fuctioned. Background: Faculty of Medicine, YARSI University has experienced a paradigm shift in higher education from a content-based curriculum to a competency-based curriculum that has been applied since the academic year of 2007/2008 using a problem-based learning approach. Progress test is an evaluation that is used to measure the student’s competency in the field of knowledge in its entirety. Faculty of Medicine, YARSI University has yet to apply these progress test. Thus, this research is aimed to execute a progress test trial in attempt to use it as a standard measurement to observe student capabilities in the field of knowledge, either as the individual or as a whole class.Method: This research uses a qualitative method. The research sample consists of 200 students from the faculty of medicine chosen by using a randomized approach for each class, starting from the class of 2013 (first year students) until the class of 2010 (fourth year students). Results: Based on student entrance levels in years, 4th year students had acquired a higher score on the progress test trial in comparison to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students.  The results had also shown that the students in their first year of study had lower scores when compared to the students in their last year of study (4th year). This indicates that the longer the period of study or the more time spent in the study process, the better the scores achieved on the progress test. Conclusion : Faculty of Medicine, YARSI University has successfully executed the progress test trial in the first week of the third block in the odd semester of the academic year of  2013/2014. The progress test itself consisted of 200 questions and was taken by 200 student samples that were chosen in a randomized manner.  The results of the progress test had revealed that there was an increase in the average examination grades of students in the 1st year until the 4th year, which is consistent with the level of understanding of lectures accordingly to each year.  Item Analysis  on the test showed a good distribution in the level of difficulty, where the majority of questions were held in the moderate level of difficulty.

Background: Student’s cognitive ability could be assessed using MCQ. The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of MCQ as an assessment method in Medical Faculty of Muhammadiyah University Palembang. Method: This study was designed as a cross sectional descriptive observational study. Sample was MCQ assessment in Genetics and Molecular Biology Module for academic year 2013/2014 until 2015/2016 for total 299 questions. Item analysis was done manually. Results: The item analysis showed that 61.2% questions were recall-type question. This situation showed that the construction of the question was not good and only testing the lower cognitive area. There was 45.2% ideal question with 30-70% difficulty index and 23.1% questions whom distractor efficiency was 100%. Half of the questions (56.2%) should  be revised. This revision-needed questions distributed equally into easy, ideal, and hard level of difficulty. Revision-needed questions had lower distractor efficiency mean compared to good questions. Conclusion: MCQ as an assessment method do not reach maximum target yet because there were many questions that should be revised. Faculty should enhance the development of the lecturer in writing the good MCQs.
