The STEAM science competition “Our Experiment” (organized by the Lithuanian Center of Non-formal Youth Education) is one of the opportunities to diversify the educational process and encourage students to take a deeper interest in natural sciences. We are convinced that the STEAM science-based competition encourages students to work in teams and collaborate on research. Teamwork skills are especially needed in today’s world of science and work, as one person’s mind or skills are no longer enough here. Already at school, it is important to point out that knowledge of one subject is often not enough to identify and solve problems, different sciences complement each other, and their integration often creates opportunities for innovation. Working with the STEAM method inevitably integrates subjects in the educational process. The STEAM science competition led to the search for an integrative topic. It became the subject of "Papyrus Production". Subject - Knowledge of the world. Integrated programs: Lithuanian language, mathematics, art and technologies, information technologies, human safety. I wanted students to be able to apply cognitive skills in integrating subjects: critical thinking, practical skills, analysis and conclusions, information processing, application and deepening of knowledge, presentation. Nature of work - integrated lessons. The lessons took place in the gymnasium science laboratory. Educational film based on practical activities: Home Papyrus Production https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJClRehaATc The STEAM science competition used the tools of the gymnasium's natural sciences laboratory (during the implementation of the EU-funded project “Supply of Schools with Natural and Technological Sciences” most Lithuanian schools were equipped with natural sciences - tubes, flasks, microscopes, sensors, optical kits). The STEAM science competition led to the search for an integrative topic. "Papyrus production" is a topic of world cognition. Subjects were integrated: Lithuanian (analysis of the study material, expressive language for making a film), mathematics (weighing of bulk materials, time calculation, water temperature measurement), art and technologies (sheet cutting, gluing, drawing, drawing sketches), information technologies (filming of scenes, timer setting, searching websites for information on Egyptian symbols, papyrus production, glue production at home), human safety (safe handling of electrical appliances, boiling water, sharp objects). Throughout the learning period, students remained active as one activity changed to another. Students learned new concepts, worked on the principles of science, presented his competitive work to the school community, at student science conferences. Keywords: engaging in educational material, educational method STEAM, smartphones.

The article is aimed at summarizing theoretical and empirical studies on the development of students’ creative and critical thinking in ESL classes by means of information technologies and digital tools. Creativity and constructive criticism are the 21st centuries essential skills. The novelty of the study deals with critical overview of the latest multidisciplinary works. The purpose of the research is to consider the implementation of new information technologies to develop students’ cognitive skills. Creative thinking focuses on person’s abilities to come up with new, non-standard, original solutions to problems and challenges. Critical thinking means a way of thinking in which people have an attitude involving questioning such arguments and conclusions. Development of critical and creative thinking is tightly connected with the use of Bloom’s Taxonomy, a hierarchical ordering of cognitive skills. Revised Bloom’s taxonomy implies 126 digital planning verbs. Based on Bloom’s taxonomy, teachers plan educational goals and objectives, project specific methodological steps with the help of didactic tools and achieve excellent learning outcomes. Constituents of the educational process such as setting and assessment of course work, development of materials and visual aids, classroom practice, computer assisted language learning enable to enhance collaboration between a teacher and students in ESL classes. Information competence is an integral part of a foreign language teacher’s professional competence. A comparative analysis of the latest educational digital tools according to some criteria is highlighted in the paper with the purpose to popularize innovations in education. It is emphasized that information technologies act as a link between educational materials and learning outcomes and encourage students to think broadly and use skills, such as resourcefulness, imagination, constructive criticism.

The article proposes a model for forecasting the success of student’s learning. The model is a Markov process with continuous time, such as the process of “death and reproduction”. As the parameters of the process, the intensities of the processes of obtaining and assimilating information are offered, and the intensity of the process of assimilating information takes into account the attitude of the student to the subject being studied. As a result of applying the model, it is possible for each student to determine the probability of a given formation of ownership of the material being studied in the near future. Thus, in the presence of an automated information system of the university, the implementation of the model is an element of the decision support system by all participants in the educational process. The examples given in the article are the results of an experiment conducted at the Institute of Space and Information Technologies of Siberian Federal University under conditions of blended learning, that is, under conditions when classroom work is accompanied by independent work with electronic resources.

Innovations change the world in all spheres of life, and education is not an exception. Modern requirements of time put us new challenges that require the use of new information technologies at all stages of the educational process in higher education institutions, in particular the use of the Internet. In addition, it has been noted that Internet resources increase motivation and contribute to the formation of a fully developed personality. Testing and evaluating students' knowledge and abilities is an integral part of the credit-module system. One of the forms of evaluation of the initial level of knowledge, consolidation and improvement of assimilation of information is testing. It should be noted that in a number of countries, testing has shifted traditional forms of control — oral and written exams and interviews. However, in Ukraine, educators remain adherents of a combination of testing and classical analysis of material. It allows the most efficient distribution of the training time of a practical class, 100% control of the knowledge and the effectiveness of mastering the material of all the students of the academic group. Technical progress stimulates the search for new variants and possibilities of testing, its various variations. One of the options that can help solve this problem was a smartphone. In order to facilitate the work of the teacher at the Department of Microbiology, an online testing system with the use of smartphones was introduced. Online testing is conducted among students with Ukrainian and English language training. With the Google Forms platform, the teacher creates a form which contains the student's records and tests. Students directly from the teacher get a link to fill out an online form directly at the lesson. For testing, a database containing standard KROK-1 licensed test tasks is used. The form can contain any number of test tasks that are in arbitrary order, as well as a changed order of distractors, which makes it impossible to write off. At the same time, all students are in the same conditions: all write one option. After submitting the form, the student receives a notification that his response is recorded. Re-linking is not possible. In turn, the teacher receives a message on the result of the test in the table — the ratio of correct answers to the total number of questions, as well as options for their answers. First and foremost, questions are displayed on which students gave the largest number of incorrect answers. This allows the topic to be considered in the process of discussion of the most difficult tasks from the students perspective, and in the future it will allow more efficiently to create forms for on-line tests and to focus on these issues.
