Background: Heart disease is a condition with many etiologies, some of which include genetics, obesity, exercise, diet, smoking, and alcohol use. Studies show that increased years of education lead to better health outcomes, specifically lower rates of heart disease and obesity. Despite their high level of education, physicians have been shown to have a disproportionally higher rate of heart disease. Our objective was to determine whether there are particular lifestyle habits present among medical students that may lead to increased risk of heart disease as their academic and clinical futures progress. Methods: 201 Quinnipiac University medical, law, and education graduate students were recruited to this survey study. Descriptive statistics were used to present the data. Chi-squared test and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used to test the significance and a p-value <0.05 was considered significant. Results: Medical students were able to answer health-related questions correctly more than their law and education student counterparts (p-value <.001), felt able to explain the terms saturated fat (p-value <.001) and trans-fat (p-value <.001) and give an accurate estimate of personal BMI status better than their counterparts in the law and education programs, but did not significantly differ in meeting Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet recommendations or American Heart Association (AHA) recommendations for physical activity. Conclusion: Increased health-related knowledge has little bearing on individual dietary and physical activity habits of graduate students. We found no evidence to show that increased medical knowledge leads individuals to pursue lifestyle habits that lower the risk of heart disease.

A busy schedule and demanding tasks challenge medical students to adjust their lifestyle and dietary habits. The aim of this study was to identify dietary habits and health-related behaviours among students. A number of 403 students (80.40% female, aged M = 21.21 ± 4.56) enrolled in a medical university provided answers to a questionnaire constructed especially for this research, which was divided into three parts: the first part collected socio-demographic, anthropometric, and medical data; the second part inquired about dietary habits, lifestyle, sleep, physical activity, water intake, and use of alcohol and cigarettes; and the third part collected information about nutrition-related data and the consumption of fruit, vegetables, meat, eggs, fish, and sweets. Data were analysed using SPSS v24. Students usually slept M = 6.71 ± 1.52 h/day, and one-third had self-imposed diet restrictions to control their weight. For both genders, the most important meal was lunch, and one-third of students had breakfast each morning. On average, the students consumed 1.64 ± 0.88 l of water per day and had 220 min of physical activity per week. Data about the consumption of fruit, vegetables, meat, eggs, fish, sweets, fast food, coffee, tea, alcohol, or carbohydrate drinks were presented. The results of our study proved that medical students have knowledge about how to maintain a healthy life and they practice it, which is important for their subsequent professional life.

Background: Physical activity is associated with improved quality of life. Patients with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) face unique clinical and psychological challenges. Factors such as fear of ICD shock may negatively impact on physical activity, while a sense of protection gained from the ICD may instil confidence to be active. Aim: We aimed to examine the impact of an ICD on physical activity levels and factors associated with amount of activity. Methods: Two cross-sectional studies were conducted. Accelerometer data (seven-day) was collected in March–November 2015 for 63 consecutively recruited hypertrophic cardiomyopathy patients, with or without an ICD, aged ⩾18 years. A survey study was conducted in July–August 2016 of 155 individuals aged ⩾18 years with an inherited heart disease and an ICD in situ. Results: Based on the International Physical Activity Questionnaire, mean leisure time physical activity was 239 ± 300 min/week with 51% meeting physical activity guidelines. Accelerometry showed that mean moderate–vigorous physical activity was the same for patients with and without an ICD (254 ± 139 min/week versus 300 ± 150 min/week, p=0.23). Nearly half of survey participants ( n=73) said their device made them more confident to exercise. Being anxious about ICD shocks was the only factor associated with not meeting physical activity guidelines. Conclusions: Patients with inherited heart disease adjust differently to their ICD device, and for many it has no impact on physical activity. Discussion regarding the appropriate level of physical activity and potential barriers will ensure best possible outcomes in this unique patient group.

BACKGROUND: Physical activity is one of the most important factors that affect human health; it reduces the chances of hypertension, coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes, breast and colon cancer, and depression.OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study were to measure prevalence of physical activity and to determine the factors affecting the level of physical activity among medical student in Jazan University.METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted among the students of medical colleges of Jazan University. A random sample of 419 was determined using most recent physical activity prevalence. A validated self-administered questionnaire was used for data collection.RESULTS: There is a high prevalence of inactivity among study participants (88.1%). Females (91.7%) were more significantly (p value=0.013) inactive than males (83.8%). The most influential barrier perceived by participants is (heavy) academic work as well as lack of places for physical activity; the latter factor being more effective in hindering female students' physical activity.CONCLUSION: Results revealed that the inactivity rate was very high among medical students. The results of this study call for a well-planned intervention at the university level for improving the level of physical activity among university students.

ABSTRACT: RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND FAMILY HISTORY WITH CORONARY HEART DISEASE AT PUSKESMAS  BANJARSARI METRO Introduction: Based on data in coronary heart events Metro City 2018 total which is 1,309 new cases. For new diseases 190 men and 22 for women cases,  for old cases 369 men and 528 women in 2019 have a very drastic decrease, with total of new and old 229 patients with heart disease , for new diseases which is 32 men and 57 cases and women, for an old cases which is 60 cases for men and 80 cases for women.Purpose:  to known relations between physical activity and family history with coronary heart disease at Puskesmas Banjarsari Metro in 2020.Method: quantitative research type, analytical survey research plan with cross sectional approach, population and sample in research patients with heart failure are22 respondents. Univariate and bivariate data analysis used chi square test.Result : From 23 respondents, 13 respondents (56,5%) with low activity, families at risk which is 14 respondents (55,0%),  12 respondent (52,2%) with coronary heart, results of statistical tests using the chi square test obtained p-value = 0,022(< 0.05) , p-value = 0,006(< 0.05).Conclusion : Results of using the chi square test obtained p-value = 0,022(< 0.05) that means there is a relations between physical actiivity with occurrence coronary heart disease in Puskesmas Banjarsari Kota Metro 2020. Results of using the chi square test obtained p-value = 0,006(< 0.05) that means there is a relations between history of family with occurrence coronary heart disease in Puskesmas Banjarsari Kota Metro 2020. For peoples who risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) to behave healthy living by maintaining a diet by consuming foods that conform to diet coronary heart patients, avoid smoking, not consuming alcohol beverages, maintain weight stability and exercise regulary. Keywords : Knowledge, Self Care, Quality of life.       INTISARI:HUBUNGAN ANTARA AKTIVITAS FISIK DAN RIWAYAT KELUARGA DENGAN KEJADIAN PENYAKIT JANTUNG KORONER DI PUSKESMAS RAWAT INAP BANJARSARI KOTA METRO  Pendahuluan: Berdasarkan data kejadian jantung koroner di Kota Metro tahun 2018 pada berdasarkan jumlah kasus baru dan lama  sebanyak 1.309 dengan pembagian penyakit baru, laki-laki sebanyak 190 orang, perempuan sebanyak 22 orang, dan kasus lama, laki-laki sebanyak 369 orang, perempuan sebanyak 528 orang, pada tahun 2019 mengalami penurunan yang sangat drastis, yaitu total pasien jantung baru dan lama sebanyak 229 orang, dengan pembagian penyakit baru, laki-laki sebanyak 32 orang, perempuan sebanyak 57 orang, dan kasus lama, laki-laki sebanyak 60 orang, perempuan sebanyak 80 orang.Tujuan: Diketahui hubungan antara aktivitas fisik dan riwayat keluarga dengan kejadian penyakit jantung koroner di Puskesmas Banjarsari Kota Metro Tahun 2020.Metode: Jenis penelitian kuantitatif, rancangan penelitian survey analitik dengan pendekatan cross sectional, populasi dan sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah pasien gagal jantung sebanyak 22  responden, Analisa data menggunakan univariat dan bivariat menggunakan uji chi square.Hasil : Dari 23 responden dengan aktivitas kurang sebanyak 13 responden (56,5%), riwayat keluarga beresiko sebanyak 14 responden (55,0%),  jantung koroner sebanyak 12 responden (52,2%), Hasil uji statistik menggunakan uji chi square didapat nilai p-value = 0,022 (< 0.05) , p-value = 0,006 (< 0.05).Kesimpulan : Hasil uji statistik menggunakan uji chi square didapat nilai p-value = 0,022 (< 0.05) yang artinya terdapat hubungan antara aktivitas fisik dengan kejadian penyakit jantung koroner di Puskesmas Banjarsari Kota Metro Tahun 2020. Hasil uji statistik menggunakan uji chi square didapat nilai p-value = 0,006 (< 0.05) yang artinya terdapat hubungan antara riwayat keluarga dengan kejadian penyakit jantung koroner di Puskesmas Banjarsari Kota Metro  Tahun 2020Bagi seseorang yang mempunyai resiko terhadap terjadinya Penyakit Jantung Koroner (PJK) untuk berperilaku hidup sehat dengan jalan menjaga pola makan dengan jalan mengkonsumsi makanan yang sesuai dengan pola diit penderita PJK, menghindari merokok, tidak mengkonsumsi minuman beralkohol, menjaga kestabilan berat badan dan berolah raga secara teratur. Kata Kunci      : Pengetahuan, Self Care, Kualitas Hidup

Background: Menopause is associated with numerous somatic dysfunctions, an increased risk of chronic diseases, and complications in the mental and social components of health that lower the quality of life (QoL). Obesity and related comorbidities affect over 60% of postmenopausal women in Poland. A significant role for systematic physical activity (PA) in the prevention of dysfunctions and chronic diseases, including obesity and mental disorders, has been observed previously. A low level of PA is observed across the Polish population, especially in postmenopausal women. Aim of the study: To examine QoL in postmenopausal women participating in a community health promotion program as it relates to obesity and levels of PA. Material and methods: The study sample consisted of 76 postmenopausal women (aged 65.75±5.14 years) participating in the Active Wrocław 55+ program. Before starting the program, anthropometric measurements were taken, and QoL and PA were assessed using the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF), respectively. Results: Most women had a PA level above 600 MET -min/week (78.95%), and were overweight or obese (86.84%). A waist circumference over 80 cm, indicating an increased risk for metabolic syndrome, was observed in 85.89% of the participants. BMI and waist circumference negatively correlated with the level of PA (p=0.001 and p=0.017, respectively). Women exhibiting low levels of PA and higher BMIs showed a significantly lower QoL compared to those with higher PA and lower BMIs, particularly with regard to the physical domains of QoL. Conclusions: Obesity and a low level of PA are associated with a significant decline in the health-related QoL (especially in the PF and PCS domains) of postmenopausal women an urban setting.

Introduction: Physical activity (PA) is associated with cardiovascular health benefits including prevention of age related cardiac remodeling, systolic and diastolic dysfunction, and adaptive pro-hypertrophic effect. In this study we aim to measure the associations between PA and LV structure and function in a diverse Hispanic/Latino population. Methods: Participants included 1,818 self-identified Hispanic/Latino men and women, age 45-74 from the Echocardiographic Study of Latinos (ECHO-SOL). Standard echo measures included M-mode, two-dimensional (2-D), spectral, tissue Doppler and color flow. Participants wore an Actical hip accelerometer for 1 week. Multivariable regression models were completed to relate PA to echocardiographic parameters. Results: The mean ± SE age for the cohort was 56 ±0.4, 57% were female, the prevalence of diabetes was 28%, hypertension 50%, hypercholesterolemia 49%, and coronary heart disease 7%. Average moderate to vigorous PA (MVPA) was 20.9 ± 1.1 min/day and sedentary time ±SE was 736.5 ± 8.1 min/day. In multivariable models adjusted for age, gender, diabetes, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, coronary heart disease, alcohol and cigarette use we found the following: left atrium volume index (LAVI) decrease by quartiles of MVPA (p-value<0.001). Global circumferential strain (GCS) decreased across these quartiles of MVPA. Moreover, LAVI decreased by 0.3 per 100 min/day of sedentary time (p-value<0.01) and GCS also decreased across quartiles of sedentary time. Conclusion: MVPA was significantly associated with lower LAVI. There was also a significant association with sedentary behavior. Our findings illustrate the complex relationship between PA, sedentary time and cardiac structure and function.

Lower levels of physical activity (PA) have been associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Worldwide, there is a shift towards a lifestyle with less PA, posing a serious threat to public health. One of the suggested mechanisms behind the association between PA and disease development is through systemic inflammation, in which circulating blood cells play a pivotal role. In this study we investigated the relationship between genetically determined PA and circulating blood cells. We used 68 single nucleotide polymorphisms associated with objectively measured PA levels to perform a Mendelian randomization analysis on circulating blood cells in 222,645 participants of the UK Biobank. For inverse variance fixed effects Mendelian randomization analyses, p < 1.85 × 10−3 (Bonferroni-adjusted p-value of 0.05/27 tests) was considered statistically significant. Genetically determined increased PA was associated with decreased lymphocytes (β = –0.03, SE = 0.008, p = 1.35 × 10−3) and decreased eosinophils (β = –0.008, SE = 0.002, p = 1.36 × 10−3). Although further mechanistic studies are warranted, these findings suggest increased physical activity is associated with an improved inflammatory state with fewer lymphocytes and eosinophils.

Valvular heart disease affects 1%–2% of young individuals, many of whom aspire to partake in competitive sport or high intensity recreational exercise. There are limited reports on the impact of intensive physical activity on the progression of valvular heart disease; therefore, current recommendations are based on consensus opinion. The management of exercising individuals with valvular heart disease requires a structured approach that incorporates several key factors including symptomatic status, functional capacity, type and nature of the valvular lesion, impact on ventricular structure and function and effect on pulmonary artery pressure. Asymptomatic individuals with minor valvular abnormalities may engage in all forms of competitive sport, whereas those with lesions of moderate severity may exercise intensively if an exercise stress test tailored to the relevant physical activity reveals good functional capacity without myocardial ischaemia, haemodynamic disturbances or arrhythmia. Symptomatic athletes and those with severe valvular heart disease, impaired ventricular function, pulmonary hypertension and arrhythmias should refrain from most competitive sports. Athletes with a bicuspid aortic valve and aortic root diameter >40 mm should avoid sport with a strong isometric component even with minimal valvular dysfunction. There is an association between mitral valve prolapse and sudden cardiac death in the general population; however, there is limited evidence of increased risk with competitive sport. Athletes undergoing corrective surgery may return to exercise after 3 months if ventricular function and exercise capacity are preserved. Individuals anticoagulated for mechanical bioprosthetic valves should avoid contact or collision sport to minimise the risk of bleeding.
