Broken family leads to children being raised by single parents, stepparents or others not related to the biological parents. The study used a univariate likert scale among senior high school students in Jagobiao National High School. There are questions to gather the data. Firstly, students with broken family reported that they perform differently compared to the students with complete family. They do not have the confidence to stand out in class and even socializing the people around them. The findings of the study is statistically not significant between performance task and socialization of the students with broken family because the Cross tabulation presented that performance task does not affect the students socialization. Majority of the students perform well with a complete family rather than the broken ones. A number of students have fair confidence to socialize with other people. Other students with incomplete family poorly perform their task and their socialization skills rated poor as well. Hence, most of the students with incomplete family satisfactory perform their task and their socialization skill rated as satisfactory also. The study accentuates that the two variables performance task and socialization of the students with broken family does not have a significant correlation.

The Peer group is composed of equal status, where students within a given peer group are of the same age and have the same social status. The performance task is any learning activity or assessment that asks students to perform to demonstrate their knowledge, understanding, and proficiency. Performance tasks as part of the student’s performance in school, probably this might be influenced by peers of the students.  The study used a descriptive design to determine the influence of peer on the performance task of the students. A total of 243 Senior High students of Jagobiao National High School answered the Likert scale questionnaire, an instrument used by the researcher to conduct the study. The study used weighted mean and chi-square to determine whether peer influence has an association with students’ performance tasks. The results show that peers can influence students’ performance tasks. It was shown in the study that students get a low grade from skipping classes together with their peers. The study concluded that there is an association between peer influence and academic performance of the students. Assertiveness is defined as a behavior in which an individual is confident and can express thoughts, feelings, and opinion in direct honest way. Whereas, performance task pertains to an activity which students are asked to perform or demonstrate their understanding. This study aims to assess the association between assertiveness as independent variable, and level of performance task as dependent variable using descriptive correlation design. The respondents are the senior high school students of Jagobiao National High School. Checklist is used as research instrument of the study. The data are analyzed through Chi-square test as statistical treatment. The result of this study shows that Jagobiao National High School students have high correlation between the two variables. To simplify the idea, level of assertiveness can influence the students’ performance in school.

The aim of this study is to examine and contrast the language awareness of Finnish and German EFL senior highschool students and student teachers regarding aspects of English grammar and its teaching. Data was collected fromFinland and Germany during the academic school years of 2015–16 and 2016–17. It consists of the responses to twosurvey questions of 1st year EFL senior high school students (n = 200 from Finland, n = 200 from Germany) andstudent teachers (n = 118 from Finland, n = 118 from Germany). The study utilizes both qualitative (content analysis)and quantitative (frequencies, percentages, cross tabulation [χ2-test]) research methods. The results show that thesubjects’ awareness of English grammar and its teaching was mainly based on intuitive, implicit knowledge. It wasdifficult for both senior high school learners and student teachers to build a cognitive understanding that wouldincrease their awareness of English grammar, and, as a result of this, its teaching, and respectively theirgrammar-related didactical competences.

Literature and society work hand in glove because literature is a reflection of the realities of our society. This paper sets out to examine the pedagogic relevance of Literature in general and Prose in particular to Cameroonian High school students. It aims at presenting how and why The Death Certificate should be taught to Cameroonian High School Students. First, Students need to be informed about the society. Second, they should know what to do in face of various issues that arise in the society in general. Third, The Death Certificate handles themes such as love, power, domination and feminism which can conveniently be understood by High School Students. It is in this light that writers draw inspiration from the society to produce literary texts. Fourth, a work of art should not be limited; it should entertain, educate and inform us about our society. Fifth, Literature which reflects or acts as a mirror of life in society should be taught in schools because it shapes the students’ moral behavior. It also creates awareness in students by helping them to know more about the preoccupations of the society in which they live. It is thanks to literature that we learn much about society and the people who live in it.

Cline-Ransome, Lesa.  Just a Lucky So and So: the Story of Louis Armstrong.  Holiday House, 2016.This is a children’s level biography of Louis Armstrong.  It is a difficult book to rate.  The watercolours are superb and rate 4 stars but the text is lacking and rates 2 stars.  While it is clearly a picture book and meant for children, the text seems like it might have originally been written for adults and then modified a little for children.  There are too many big words for a picture book and the story is choppy and sometimes too condensed to be understood. There are sometimes big gaps in the information.  For example, at a New Year’s Eve celebration, “shots were fired… Little Louis joined in with his stepfather’s gun. All his scrapes with the law added up, and at eleven years, Little Louis was sent away." We are not told why Louis was arrested, while it appears that firing guns in celebration was a normal thing to do. At one point we learn that he had a second wife, but up to that point there is no mention of marriage at all.  The writing does not flow and is not always easy to read.James Ransome’s images, however, are wonderful.  In keeping with the theme of luck in the book, all of the people are happy and smiling.  These are well-executed works of art.  The picture of the cornet inside the front cover is beautiful.  In the picture of Louis’s family when he was little, Ransome has perfectly captured the shape of a small kneeling boy with his head thrown back in laughter. The music message of this book is both historical and inspirational, showing that it doesn’t matter where you come from or how little you have, you can still do great things in music.Because there are relatively few biographical works of famous musicians, and elementary and junior high school students often have to make presentations on famous musicians, this book, in spite of its weaknesses should be in public and school libraries.Recommended:  3 out of 4 stars Reviewer:  Sean BorleSean Borle is a University of Alberta undergraduate student who is an advocate for child health and safety.
