This article discusses the readiness of students to activate their cognitive activity in the study of electrotechnical drawing, using programmed lessons to acquire new knowledge and skills to work with the software product CADdy ++ Electric. The lessons developed in this way enable the learners to look at the material selectively, depending on their needs and to determine the pace of their progress. The use of a computer system as a tool for self-learning is directly related to increasing the quality and efficiency of the independent work of learners, which contributes to increasing their responsibility and motivation in the learning process.

The chapter deals with the problem of preparing a graduate of a classical university, possessing both professional and special competencies, which include expertise, knowledge, and skills obtained in the study of pedagogical disciplines. The effectiveness of student preparation largely depends on the results of their independent work, which is given a significant amount of academic time. At the same time, the teacher's task is to accompany the student's independent work and to draw up a system of non-standard tasks that develop communicative and creative skills, skills of working with scientific texts and project activities. The aim of the chapter is to reveal the possibilities of technologies of independent work organization that motivate students to dynamic cognitive activity while studying pedagogical disciplines (on the example of studying the course “Pedagogy” at Saint Petersburg State University).

In accordance with the standards of education for the development of cognitive activity and creative abilities, to work with a large amount of information and interact in a group, the paper suggests using the possibilities of a demonstration experiment in all courses of physical geography. In accordance with the standards of education for improving the quality of students’ knowledge, developing their cognitive activity, creative abilities, the mechanism of forming positive motivation in the process of independent activity in the acquisition of new knowledge and creative approach to the learning process is shown. The conducted pedagogical research on the selection of the content and forms of organization of the demonstration experiment showed the possibility of forming critical thinking in students on the basis of experimental activities in geography lessons. A wide introduction of a demonstration experiment that brings the quality of the lesson and extracurricular work to a new level with the provision of differentiation and individualization of the learning process is proposed.

Learning to learn, one of the eight competences that EU has defined, comprises the disposition and ability to organize and regulate one’s own learning, both individually and in groups. Learning to learn includes the ability to manage one’s time effectively, to solve problems, to acquire, process, evaluate and assimilate new knowledge, and to apply new knowledge and skills in a variety of contexts — at home, at work, in education and in training. In more general terms, learning-to- learn contributes strongly to managing one’s own career path. Although ‘learning to learn’ should be an important part of daily life in secondary schools and classrooms, it turns out to be a very difficult goal to achieve. For most schools and for most teachers it is not even clear how ‘learning to learn’ should be operationalized and implemented.

The low level of pupils’ knowledge and skills in science and mathematics is a serious problem in the economic development of the country. Cognitive interest is a crucial learning motive; no successful learning process is possible without inciting interest. Grade 9 pupils were surveyed to find out the respondents’ cognitive interest in the field of exact sciences. On average the interest in subjects of exact sciences is poorly pronounced. Respondents have good understanding about the causal relations while the cognitive activity, the skill to overcome difficulties in learning is low. Cognitive interest in learning is promoted by diverse methodological approaches that are oriented towards pupils’ self-actualization and purposefulness. Key words: cognitive interest, learning process, science and mathematics.

The Aristotelian triptych—tell them what you are going to tell them, tell them, and tell them what you told them—offers an excellent organizational framework for successful teaching. Two essentialities for learners interspersed with the Aristotelian triptych are—why listen (i.e., what’s in it for me?) and so what now (i.e., what’s its use to me?). In combination, an effective teaching and learning process requires five sequential steps. First, teachers preview how the course’s disciplinary content is organized. Second, teachers communicate information clearly and specifically to convince students how and why listening will personally benefit them. Third, teachers lead interactive classes utilizing a variety of instructional approaches interspersed with engaging learning activities. Fourth, through learning assessments, teachers reinforce learning. Fifth, students use new knowledge and skills learned.

The article presents the results of empirical research on perception of teachers from military engineering university about the features of didactic testing and on methodologies of diagnostics used by experienced and young teachers. It also presents the results of the survey on students’ learning motivation according to the achievement goal theory. Students have been identified as being oriented towards mastery goal, and concentrate on getting new knowledge and skills that lead to professional and personal growth. It has been proved possible to develop methods for determining the effectiveness of pedagogical action and communicative interaction between the teacher and the student using didactical criterion- oriented testing. One of the goals is to assess teacher’s performance as a factor influencing students’ cognitive activity, their results and motivation. The method of formalization by mathematical means of the modeling process and representation of criterion-oriented testing results as a communicative task of interaction between the teacher and the student is described. Prospects for use of theoretical bases, ideas and methods of educational evaluation in criterion-oriented testing and in verifying teachers’ achievements are discussed.

The author presents the results of scientific research on informational and educational support of students’ self-organizing independent work, which is complicated and comprehensive, because it includes sequential and consistent execution of large stages of educational and cognitive activity requiring creative approach to decision making. Starting point of this activity is assignment from the lead instructor to study and acquire given learning material. Having received the assignment, the student assesses the individual work effort required to complete it, sets time limits, draws up the schedule, manages the workplace, gets acquainted with information and training materials available and, if necessary, searches for additional required literature. After that, the student is to study educational theoretical material and perform practical exercises and tasks. Finally, he/she carries out self-control of acquired knowledge and skills. Assuming that acquired knowledge and skills do not fully comply with the fund of evaluation assets the student is to reexamine the learning material or correct the mistakes in the practical exercise. The next stage is to submit the accomplished work to the lead instructor. For holistic and figurative appreciation of this complex didactic process pedagogical science uses system modeling. In the present article the author introduces the functional model of students’ self-organizing independent work adapted to distance education. The model under consideration is of practical interest because it can be applied to forecast the process of knowledge acquisition in students’ self-organizing independent work and monitor the influence every link of this work has on the final result of independent work. In the long run, decision is made as to which educational technology proves the best. The efficiency of informational and educational support in the structure of the presented model has been confirmed by the results of the pilot study and final testing.

Abstract The paper examines the use of Google Translate as an Alternative tool for assisting students at Universitas Negeri Jakarta, Indonesia to translate and develop their knowledge and skills in doing Translation. The participants of the study were 36 students at the Applied Linguistic of Doctoral Program at Universitas Negeri Jakarta who had registered of the year 2017. Based on literature  review, analysis of the collecting data, and an assessment of the course content and activities inside and outside the learning process, the findings suggest that most Applied Linguistic of Doctoral Program students at Universitas Negeri Jakarta recognize Google Translate as  an Alternative tool for doing references book translation. In fact, some students reported that they could optimally ,benefit from self-learning if they were assisted to use Google Translate effectively. Moreover, using Google Translate for doing classroom tasks and reference books translation encourage students to study independently, and to shape their own strategies for solving language problem. A particularly important aspect of learning physics is using models of physical objects, processes and phenomena. Modeling is an important component of learning and cognitive activity. This determines its importance for the formation and development of students’ knowledge and skills. The Physics Education Technology (PhET) project creates useful simulations for teaching and learning physics and makes them freely available on the PhET web site: http://phet.colorado.edu The simulations are interactive, animated and visual. Some ideas for their using in physics education are presented. They can be used in various of ways, including demonstration experiment as part of lecture, student group work or individual worksheets, homework assignments or labs. The possibility for using simulations in remote education is considered. Students are given interactive assignments. They include interactive problems in the form of computer simulation and questions related to it. The students work with data which they analyze and present tabular and graphically. This approach suggest activities based on enquiry. In result their motivation and interest in physics increases.

Education is a process of learning and learning both in terms of knowledge and skills. From a number of sources that researchers studied, researchers can deduce from education and education administration with a broad scope. Education and education administration have the same goals and functions, namely achieving an educational goal that can benefit society and the nation. This education also serves to create intelligent students, noble character, good personality and skills that can be useful to help other communities. Educational administration and education are very related, because they are very dependent. Educational administration is all processes and joint activities that must be carried out by someone related to educational tasks. If an education without education administration is accompanied by it will not be achieved an educational goal that is good for the welfare of society. From every educational process there is a need for educational administration. The purpose of both is very clear. With this education, can improve human resources for the progress of a nation. As we know now there are still many obstacles that occur in some areas for the implementation of a learning process and learning, this is influenced by several factors. With these obstacles, a teacher must be able to provide education and education administration to all students. The science of education administration is very useful for the community and students. Administration is not only about finance but also about skills and bookkeeping and has goals in accordance with educational goals.
