Prebendalism and rural poverty are two main variables whose problems have negatively impacted on the developmental process of the state. This condition at the grassroots is commonly observed in the area of low income, poor shelter, poor health facilities, and in other socioeconomic wellbeing of the people. In this study, the main objective is to investigate the effect of prebendalism on rural poverty in cross river state. A quantitative research method was utilized. The findings of this study shows that prebendalism and rural poverty as the bane of development in the state are difficult to be eradicated. The implication is that unless prebendalism is eradicated, the wellbeing of the people at the grassroots will be a mirage. Therefore, this study attempts to provide policy directive along the line of the need for government to review its implementation of poverty programmes at the grassroots by eradicating or minimizing prebendalism.

This study examines the prevalence and extent of Alcohol abuse among commercial tricycle operators in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria. Adopting a descriptive quantitative research method, data was collected from 385 participants from 6424 registered tricycle operators in Calabar using a questionnaire. The participants were selected using the convenience and random sampling technique. Data collected from the field were subjected to descriptive statistics. Out of the 385 distributed instruments, 383 were returned and used for data analysis. From the analyzed data, the result revealed that all the participants, 100.00 per cent, have taken alcohol before. 81.46 per cent taken alcohol before while working, Majority of the tricycle drivers, 38.90 per cent believes that alcohol makes them have clearer vision when driving, 31.59 per cent argued that it makes them work longer, 10.97 per cent maintain that it is because they are used to alcohol. 12.27 per cent of the participants take alcohol at every opportunity they get, 18.02 per cent reported drinking every day. Result also revealed that all the tricycle riders have had accidents before, 77.81 per cent were under the influence of Alcohol when the accidents happened. Based on this result, the study concludes that there was a high prevalence of alcohol abuse among tricycle riders in Calabar. Hence there is a need for the enactment of proper laws that determines the legal limit of alcohol among drivers to checkmate the issue of driving under the influence and its attendant consequences.

This study aims to analyze the factors that affect the welfare of the people of the City of Padang measured using the Human Development Index consisting of: 1) To determine the effect of the Per Capita Gross Regional Domestic Product on the welfare of the people in the City of Padang. 2) To determine the effect of number of Poor in community welfare in Padang. 3) To determine the effect of Unemployment Rate on the welfare of people in the city of Padang. The research method used in this research is descriptive quantitative research method. The sampling technique in this study is total sampling. Data collection was performed using documentation and hypothesis testing techniques in this study using multiple linear regression test. Based on the results of the study note that: 1) The regression coefficient value of GDP per capita is equal to 0.0000002 with a probability of 0.001 which is smaller than 0.05. 2) The regression coefficient value of the number of poor population is 0.156 with a probability of 0.526 which is smaller than 0.05. 3) The regression coefficient value of the Open Unemployment Rate is -0,00014 with a probability of 0.117 less than 0.05. The conclusions that can be drawn are as follows: 1) Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) has a positive and significant effect on the welfare of the people in Padang City. 2) The number of poor people has no significant effect on the welfare of the people in the city of Padang. 3) Open Unemployment Rate has no negative and significant effect on the welfare of the people in Padang City.

This study investigated university output soft skills and blue economy strategy as mechanisms for sustainable development in Cross River State of Nigeria. The study was a descriptive survey research design. The population included all university graduate workers in sea ports in the state. A purposive sampling techniques was used to select 250 respondents from the port locations. The instrument designated ‘Soft Skills In Blue Economy Strategy Questionnaire (SSIBESQ)’ was designed to collect data for the study. The instrument was validated and had a reliability co-efficient of 0.872. The data collected were analyzed using frequency counts and percentage score. The study revealed that university output soft skills were beneficiary to the graduate workers economically and encouraged multitasking in human and material resources for sustainable development of Cross River State, Nigeria. Blue economy strategy, through a dynamic environmental sustainable principles, assisted the university output at workplace. This included to boost new employment, innovation and growth in marine production and other port industries, thereby improving the state economic stand. Some of the recommendations made were: universities should give more attention to soft skills development, government should support policies on university output soft skills and blue economy strategy as sine-qua-non for utilization of business opportunities and economic development in the state.

This study examined the role of Non State Actors (NSAs) in strengthening the developmental capacity of the state, using a case study of Cross River State, Nigeria. Primary and secondary data on selected constituents of NSAs including Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Privately Owned Companies, Banks, Private Hospitals and Private Schools were analyzed using tables and charts. The results revealed that activities of NSAs significantly enhance the developmental capacity of Cross River State especially in the areas of provision of public services, knowledge and skill acquisition, infrastructural development and employment generation. Besides other recommendations, it was recommended that NSAs and the government should perform complementary roles in enhancing developmental capacity and that the establishment of more NSAs in the rural areas should be encouraged through the provision of special funding and other incentives for NSAs that have their offices in the rural areas.

Preschools behavior must be developed since early of children ages. It is believed to affects their further characters. It plays an important role in their habit, building interaction, and character development. Childrens behavior is influenced by the habit which is done by the people around of them, like parent. Hence this study proposes parenting style on preschools prosocial behavior. Those effects are likely varied from home. Participating preschool students (N= 61) during two weeks in January 2017 who had a mean age of 5.14 years. The data were obtained using questionnaire and observation sheet. A quantitative research method was use to collection, analysis and interpretation of data. According to the result, there was not significant positive correlation between authoritative parenting style and preschool prosocial behavior. Accordingly, it can be concluded that there were alternative factors such as teacher-classmates, teacher-child relation, and childrens moods and feelings.

The current COVID-19 pandemic affecting nearly all nations of the world have had a profound impact on education. In Nigeria, as the cases of infection continue to increase and the extension of measures to curb the spread of the virus now points to the fact that schools are not physically resuming anytime soon. This study examined the extent to which the COVID-19 pandemic measures have affected the educational developmentof secondary school students in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. Using the descriptive survey method, data was collected from a sample of 400 samples from a population of 191,630 of Calabar South, Cross River State. The sample size was determined using the Slovin Sample Size Formula. The sample was selected using the stratified, purposive and random sampling technique. the instrument of data collection is a semi-structured questionnaire. Data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics and Simple Lineal Regression at 0.05 level of significance. Result revealed a significant negative effect of the COVID-19 pandemic measures on the educational development of secondary school students in Calabar South, Cross River State, Nigeria. the study recommends amongst others that the Nigerian government need to copy from other developed nation by partnering with its postal service to deliver worksheets to students in their home especially in low-income families that cannot afford computers.

This research aims to analyze the relationship characteristic of respondents, purchasing power and the origin of ethnic groups with the foster pattern in the feeding of milk escort food (MPASI) in infants aged 0-12 months in Jambi city. This research using methods is an observational research with a mixed method research method between qualitative and quantitative research. This research was conducted in several tribes in Jambi city, such as the people of Origin Jambi as the result of the research is characteristic of respondents who have a last education low of 38 people (39.6%), knowledge of MPASI less well as 66 people (68.8%), customs habits (MPASI) less good as many as 45 people (46.9%), not working as much as 77 people ( And the foster pattern of poor MPASI as much as 50 people (52.1%).
