Abstract This article offers a methodological approach to study hearth features in general. The hearths of the Palaeo-Eskimo tradition are often well preserved, which makes it possible to interpret which heating processes took place, and their effects on the indoor climate of the dwelling. To obtain this type of information, recording of fire-cracked rocks within and in connection to hearths is of special importance. The Palaeo-Eskimos made use of a versatile pyro-technology, adjustable to the most extreme conditions in areas where access to firewood was limited. An archaeological experiment in combination with calculations of hypothetical combustion of fat shows that it was possible for the Independence I people to live through the High Arctic winter in tents with a reasonable degree of comfort. Also, the symbolic aspects of hearths are discussed.

During the last few years, there has been an increased number of overcrowded apartments, due to increased migration but also housing shortage in general, particularly in the suburbs to major cities. The question is how the indoor environment in these apartments is affected by the high number of persons and how the problems related to high residential density can be overcome. This paper aims to specify the problem by investigating and analysing the technical parameters influenced by residential density in Swedish apartments built between 1965-1974. To map the situation, 11 interviews with employees at housing companies were conducted. Based on extreme conditions described in the interviews, simulations of the indoor climate and moisture risks at some vulnerable parts of constructions were made. Simulations were focused on moisture loads and CO2 concentrations as functions of residential density and ventilation rate. Finally, measures to combat problems associated to overcrowding are suggested. The aim is that the results should be used by authorities to formulate incentives and/or recommendations for housing companies to take actions to ensure a good indoor environment for all, irrespective of residential density conditions.

Abstract Background Systematic reviews are an important tool of evidence-based surgery. Surgical systematic reviews and trials, however, require a special methodological approach. Purpose This article provides recommendations for conducting state-of-the-art systematic reviews in surgery with or without meta-analysis. Conclusions For systematic reviews in surgery, MEDLINE (via PubMed), Web of Science, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) should be searched. Critical appraisal is at the core of every surgical systematic review, with information on blinding, industry involvement, surgical experience, and standardisation of surgical technique holding special importance. Due to clinical heterogeneity among surgical trials, the random-effects model should be used as a default. In the experience of the Study Center of the German Society of Surgery, adherence to these recommendations yields high-quality surgical systematic reviews.

The intellectualization of medical companies is gaining special importance in modern conditions of sustainable development, including the minimization of coronavirus consequences. The study aims to form a methodological approach to assess the impact of enterprise intellectualization on the level of leadership potential in the context of stimulating its components. The study demonstrates the effectiveness of a system of factors for achieving leadership based on the intellectualization of Russian clinics, as well as the construction of a synergistic mechanism for combining factors with each other. The scientific contribution of the study is the proposed methodological toolkit for a comprehensive assessment of the impact of a company’s intellectualization on its leadership potential. It provides an opportunity to prioritize the management potential of skills, abilities, and capabilities in order to create a competitive advantage of an enterprise, achieve strategic goals, and form leadership positions in the market. Most of the studied companies were characterized by a lack of balance between leadership potential components in the context of intellectualization. Determining the level of leadership potential development based on companies’ intellectualization demonstrated that the level of qualifications determines the corresponding capabilities, which stimulate the development of a clinics’ personnel. The tested model of assessing the leadership potential of the studied companies’ personnel proves that intellectualization of general clinics influences their leadership potential. It also contributes to sustainable development in the context of actualizing their social component (namely, increased efficiency of medical services, their quality, and, accordingly, the level of health care in general).

Besides the atomic surface structure, diverging in special cases with respect to the bulk structure, the real structure of a surface Is determined by the step structure. Using the decoration technique /1/ it is possible to image step structures having step heights down to a single lattice plane distance electron-microscopically. For a number of problems the knowledge of the monatomic step structures is important, because numerous problems of surface physics are directly connected with processes taking place at these steps, e.g. crystal growth or evaporation, sorption and nucleatlon as initial stage of overgrowth of thin films.To demonstrate the decoration technique by means of evaporation of heavy metals Fig. 1 from our former investigations shows the monatomic step structure of an evaporated NaCI crystal. of special Importance Is the detection of the movement of steps during the growth or evaporation of a crystal. From the velocity of a step fundamental quantities for the molecular processes can be determined, e.g. the mean free diffusion path of molecules.

Abstract. TV news are essentially cultural phenomena. Previous research suggests that the often-overlooked formal and implicit characteristics of newscasts may be systematically related to culture-specific characteristics. Investigating these characteristics by means of a frame-by-frame content analysis is identified as a particularly promising methodological approach. To examine the relationship between culture and selected formal characteristics of newscasts, we present an explorative study that compares material from the USA, the Arab world, and Germany. Results indicate that there are many significant differences, some of which are in line with expectations derived from cultural specifics. Specifically, we argue that the number of persons presented as well as the context in which they are presented can be interpreted as indicators of Individualism/Collectivism. The conclusions underline the validity of the chosen methodological approach, but also demonstrate the need for more comprehensive and theory-driven category schemes.

The monoclonal anti-CEA F(ab’)2 fragment MAb BW 431/31, labelled with 123I or111 In, was used for immunoscintigraphy (IS) in 9 patients with medullary cancer of the thyroid (CCC). The results of 11 studies lead to the following conclusions: 1) When using radioiodine as a label for MAb in IS, potassium iodide is absolutely necessary to block the thyroid which is of special importance in patients with thyroid cancer; 2) Preinjection of “cold” MAb reduces the relatively high unspecific uptake (especially in bone marrow) of MAb BW 431/31, which is of special importance for the antibody labelled with 111 In; 3) IS with MAb BW 413/31 in patients with CCC and elevated serum CEA is positive only in cases with large secondaries; and 4) In patients with CCC and several manifestations of secondaries, only a single (large) metastasis may be apparent.

To forecast time series data, two methodological frameworks of statistical and computational intelligence modelling are considered. The statistical methodological approach is based on the theory of invertible ARIMA (Auto-Regressive Integrated Moving Average) models with Maximum Likelihood (ML) estimating method. As a competitive tool to statistical forecasting models, we use the popular classic neural network (NN) of perceptron type. To train NN, the Back-Propagation (BP) algorithm and heuristics like genetic and micro-genetic algorithm (GA and MGA) are implemented on the large data set. A comparative analysis of selected learning methods is performed and evaluated. From performed experiments we find that the optimal population size will likely be 20 with the lowest training time from all NN trained by the evolutionary algorithms, while the prediction accuracy level is lesser, but still acceptable by managers.

In the modern educational space regarding the realities of the information society special importance is attached to issues related to the provision of a high level of informatization of education, which implies teachers’ mastering the necessary competencies and the ability to introduce e-learning resources into educational and training practice. Adobe Flash as one of the platforms for creating web applications and multimedia presentations enjoys greatest popularity with users including teachers. However, in connection with the announcement of discontinuing Adobe Flash support in 2020, the issue of choosing an analog to create web applications and presentations for use in teaching purposes is becoming particularly relevant. The article provides a comprehensive analysis of developing electronic educational resources by teachers using Adobe Flash and HTML5 for teaching math in primary school.
