Research is the heart of every higher education institution (HEI).  Universities are coming under enormous strength to boost the productivity of faculty research to meet the ASEAN integration.  The accrediting agency assures that instructions and community extensions are research-based.  This study assessed the research productivity of teachers at the University of Cebu, Philippines. Based on the gathered data, a University Research Portfolio was proposed to serve as a guide for the administrators to increase production of teachers in the context of a research project, presentation, and publications. The study used a descriptive correlational method with the aid of a researcher-made questionnaire. There were 171 college teachers who were used as respondents of the study. The accumulated data were analyzed, and interpreted using simple percentage, weighted mean, Chi-square test of independence and ANOVA.  Results showed that most of the teachers have low research productivity and that they need training in research methods and statistics. It was concluded that college teachers had limited financial assistance and cash incentives that the University offers to them. The researchers strongly recommend that the proposed University Research Portfolio be used. However, further research on its effectiveness should be carried out to confirm the preliminary findings.

This study presents an attitude of female students studying B.Ed. third year towards physical education and sports within Kathmandu valley. Initially, it was hypothesized that there is no significance difference in attitude of physical education and sports among female students of different campuses. From these 6 campuses, 184 female students were randomly selected. A five-point Likert-type scale was applied for data collection from the selected students who studied in B.Ed. third year. Altogether five opinion statements were used for data collection. It was found that all respondents showed positive attitudes towards physical education and sports. In order to test whether there is significant interdependence in score among the respondents in different perspectives. The chi-square test score was applied as statistical test at the 0.05 level of significance. The chi-test under contingency table: independent of opinion among the respondent, if (χ2>α=0.05 in different degree of freedom) and independent if (χ2≤ α=0.05 in different degree of freedom). For the measurement of attitude for physical education and sports,it has enough evidence in the data to accept alternatives hypothesis; there is relation or interdependence of attitude towards physical education and sports among the respondents. Because, the score is very high among the response of respondent. The study suggests that the university teacher must be accountable to construct professional environment.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to examine the attitude of faculty members towards knowledge-sharing in the University of Education, Lahore. The impact of personal and organizational factors that may contribute to effective knowledge-sharing among the university’s teaching staff is also analyzed. The factors affecting the willingness of the faculty members to share knowledge are broadly classified as “organizational” and “personal” factors. Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire-based survey was conducted on permanent teaching staff working at different campuses of the University of Education all over the province of Punjab, Pakistan. The survey instrument for this study was adapted from four studies. The questionnaires were distributed among 246 faculty members personally. Findings The findings of the study showed that the faculty members were familiar with the importance of knowledge-sharing and were also interested in sharing their knowledge and expertise with others. The results showed that organizational factors (trust, reward system and organizational culture) played a vital role in enhancing the knowledge-sharing attitude of faculty members. The impact of these factors on knowledge-sharing attitude was significant. Originality/value This is the very first study which explored the personal and organizational factors of knowledge-sharing in a specific academic institution from Pakistan. The findings of the research provided useful insights to the management of the University of Education particularly and other universities in general to design strategies for enhancing knowledge-sharing culture in the higher education institution. These findings may also be helpful for other developing countries.

This paper investigates the influence of the examination stage of student theses on the completion time of graduate studies at Makerere University, Uganda. The assessment is based on the administrative data of 504 Masters degree students in the 2000 to 2008 enrollment cohorts at the School of Education, Makerere University. The total elapsed time from submission of a thesis for evaluation to a viva voce was adopted as a measure of the examination period. Additionally, the period from viva voce to submission of the final thesis was investigated. The analysis included frequency distribution, summary statistics, and a Pearson Chi-square test. A median examination period of 11 months (range, 155), in the results, is a lengthy one when compared to the two-year stipulated duration of Masters studies at the University. Subsequently, the fact that about six in every ten students (59.9%) submits a final thesis beyond a months period after a viva points to further delays in the review process of students reports. No significant variations in the submission period were observed by student characteristics. In sum, the findings underscore the need to strengthen administrative support systems, particularly aspects related to the review process of students reports, to ensure students timely completion of graduate programs.

Abstract Objective – This study has the objective of establishing whether the undergraduate students of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of Jos, have access to and use Internet facilities in the University library. Methods – A survey research design was adopted for this study and questionnaires were used in gathering data. Statistical methods used in the analysis include percentages, frequencies, and Chi-Square test for measuring the association of library visit and use of the Internet. Results – The analysis of the data and findings indicated that there is Internet connectivity in the library. The findings also revealed that few students (15.5%) use the computer and the Internet on a daily basis. The problems of slow Internet connection at peak periods and unsteady power supply were clearly identified. Furthermore, the analysis revealed that there is no association between the students’ library visits and their use of the Internet for most academic purposes, except for downloading articles. Conclusion – The presence of Internet connectivity in the library, does not translate to meaningful academic behaviour among the students. Therefore, sensitising and training of the students on Internet usage were recommended for better academic performance and life-long learning.

An increase in the share of elderly people in the total population of Russia determines the theoretical and practical significance of studies aimed at improving social adaptation and the productivity of a person’s life in retirement age. The relevance of the study is due to the contradiction between the theoretical and practical significance of the problem of coping behavior of older people and its insuffi cient development in gerontopsychology. The purpose of the study was to establish the theoretical basis for conducting the factor analysis of coping behaviour in the elderly studying at the University and to analyse the findings. Some theoretical and empirical methods with psychodiagnostic techniques were used, such as Heim`s coping technique, Lazarus and Folkman’s model of coping (adapted by T. Kryukova, E. Kuftyak), Maddi’s hardiness survey (adapted by D. Leontyev), and Vodopyanova and Stein`s scale of optimism and activity. We applied the following methods of the mathematical and statistical analysis: descriptive statistics, Pearson criterion χ (Chi-square test), exploratory factor analysis (EFA), principal component analysis with a Varimax rotation with Kaiser normalization using the statistical package program StatSoft Statistica for Windows 10.0 and IBM SPSS Statistics 23. The empirical research was conducted in the University for Elderly, the regional branch of the National Non-Governmental Organization «Znanie» in Chelyabinsk. The sample comprised 101 people with the median age of 68,2 years. The factor analysis detected and verified a latent structure of coping behaviour in the elderly consisting of 7 key components classifi ed by the degree of preference. Adaptive and relatively adaptive behavioural and cognitive coping styles (based on 3 out of 7 factors) that are both problem and self-preservation oriented prevail in the factor structure of coping behaviour in the subjects.

There is an ongoing discussion among experts concerning the result of university activities. One point of view is that universities should be considered as places of research and measured by their contribution to science. The aim of research is to formulate a methodological approach to assess scholarship and research productivity in universities based on the assumption that the growth transaction costs define higher education institution knowledge generation. The authors present a proposal of a new ratio, called the Knowledge Generation Efficacy Ratio (KGER), which assesses the research productivity in universities. To test this ratio, an empirical survey was carried out based on data collected from four different universities in Russia. The results of this study contribute to the development of scholarly and research productivity method. The KGER can be used as a tool for making decisions concerning the different research activities taking place in the university, the level of funding and return on investment.

Background: The status of a refugee or asylum seeker is only recognised after legal processes. The uncertainty of these procedures or the rejection itself may severely impact mental well-being. Methods: We surveyed the patterns of psychiatric services used by patients whose applications for asylum had been rejected. In a retrospective investigation of admissions to the University Emergency Department in Bern, Switzerland between 1 March 2012 and 28 February 2017, we studied patients receiving a psychiatric consultation after their applications had been rejected. The primary endpoint was based on the comparison of these individuals with controls who were asylum seekers with pending asylum applications using the Mann-Whitney U test and the chi-square test (χ2) with a significance level of 0.05. Results: Thirty-eight cases were identified. There were more men than women and the mean age was 30.08 ± 9.62 years. Patients predominantly presented as walk-in patients (n = 16, 42.1%), most frequently due to suicidal ideation (n = 16, 42.1%). Stress-related disorders were the most common diagnosis (n = 29, 76.3%) and patients were mainly referred to inpatient treatment (n = 28, 73.7%). Patients with rejected applications were less likely to be living in reception centres than patients with a pending application (χ2 = 17.98, p < 0.001). Conclusion: The profile of asylum seekers whose applications had been rejected reflects individuals with high-stress levels, potentially aggravated by the negative asylum decision.

Dangerous drugs cause side effects to users for they are not a 100% safe as many people think. The dangers of drug use depend on the drug, set and setting factors.  This study assessed the implementation of the drugs prevention and control programs of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and auxiliary members in the selected villages of Cebu City, the Philippines of the year 2014.  The descriptive correlational method of research was used.  The study employed researchers-made questionnaire using convenient sampling method in gathering information from the respondents. The accumulated data were treated using simple percentage, weighted mean, rank, and Chi-square test of independence.  The respondents were the 320-barangay officials from selected barangays in the north and south districts of Cebu City and 40 police personnel in each police station that has jurisdiction over the selected barangays in the City of Cebu.  The study revealed that most of the respondents are from ages 34-41, males, and are married. The level of implementation in both educational and rehabilitation approaches shows that the respondents are implementing the programs.  The law enforcement approach revealed that the respondents are fully implementing the programs.  The most common problems encountered are the lack of regular funding, lack of cooperation from the community, and lack of facilities for an individual program.  It was concluded that law enforcement approach was implemented in the prevention and control of the dangerous drugs in Cebu City, Philippines.   Keywords-Criminal Justice, dangerous drugs, descriptive correlational method, Philippines
