Ketersediaan nutrisi pada induk baik melalui suplai dari makanan maupun hasil metabolisme induk mempunyai pengaruh sangat luas pada pertumbuhan fetus selama kebuntingan.  Sangat diperlukan upaya perbaikan ketersediaan nutrisi melalui peningkatan sekresi endogen hormon metabolisme dan metabolit penting dan faktor-faktor pertumbuhan lainnya.  Pengetahuan profil metabolik dapat berguna dalam memprediksi masalah metabolik.  Penelitian ini dirancang mengikuti pola factorial  2 x 4 dengan 9 ulangan, sehingga jumlah kambing yang digunakan sebanyak 72 ekor induk kambing, yang terdiri dari kelompok kambing Peranakan Etawa dan kambing Kacang Pemberian pakan selama kebuntingan dibagi dalam 3 perlakuan  induk bunting awal (umur kebuntingan 1 sampai 3 bulan), induk bunting akhir (umur kebuntingan 3 sampai 5 bulan), induk bunting tampa pemberian pakan suplemen dan Induk bunting dengan suplementasi selama kebuntingan.  Pemberian pakan suplemen dapat meningkatkan pertambahan berat badan induk bunting.  Waktu yang optimum pemberian pakan suplemen pada induk bunting memberikan pertambahan berat badan yang tinggi pada umur kebuntingan 1 sampai 3 bulan (awal).  Kandungan glukosa darah dipengaruhi oleh jenis kambing dan umur kebuntingan.  Kandungan glukosa darah tertinggi pada induk yang diberi pakan suplemen selama kebuntingan tetapi tidak berbeda pada kebuntingan awal dan akhir.  Kandungan metabolit darah (urea dan kreatinine) tidak dipengaruhi oleh umur kebuntingan, dan kandungan metabolit darah relatif lebih tinggi pada ternak yang diberi pakan suplemen The availability of nutrients in the mother either through the supply of food or the results of the metabolism of the mother has a very broad influence on the growth of the fetus during pregnancy. It is necessary to improve the availability of nutrients by increasing the endogenous secretion of metabolic hormones and important metabolites and other growth factors. Knowledge of the metabolic profile can be useful in predicting metabolic problems. This study was designed to follow a 2 x 4 factorial pattern with 9 replications, so that the number of goats used were 72 mother goats, consisting of Etawa Peranakan goats and Kacang goats. 3 months), late pregnant women (gestational age 3 to 5 months), pregnant women without supplementation of feed and pregnant women with supplementation during pregnancy. Supplementary feeding can increase the weight gain of pregnant mothers. The optimum time of giving supplementary feed to pregnant mothers gives high weight gain at 1 to 3 months of gestation (early). Blood glucose content is influenced by the type of goat and gestational age. The blood glucose content was highest in broodstock fed supplements during pregnancy but did not differ in early and late pregnancy. The content of blood metabolites (urea and creatinine) was not affected by gestational age, and the content of blood metabolites was relatively higher in livestock fed supplementary diets.

Abstract Background Although the rate of maternal mortality has declined over the past few decades, pulmonary embolus (PE) remains an important cause of maternal deaths. Little is known about the associations of specific periods of gestational weight gain with detailed PE and deep venous thrombosis (DVT). We explored the incidence of pregnancy-related venous thromboembolism (VTE) in China and assessed the associations of maternal weight gain in different periods of pregnancy with VTE.Methods In a retrospective case-control study conducted in in Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital from January 1st, 2017 to July 31th, 2021, 151 cases (11.7 per 10000) of venous thromboembolism (VTE) within pregnancy or the first 6 postnatal weeks were identified. 302 controls without VTE who gave birth at the same time as the cases were selected. Maternal pre-pregnancy weight, weight in early, mid and late pregnancy and other maternal pregnancy and newborn characteristics were obtained. GWG was standardized into gestational age-specific z-scores stratified by body mass index (BMI) and categorized as low (z score <-1), normal (-1 to 1), and high (>1). The adjusted odds ratios (aORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated through log-binomial regression models. Interaction effects between gestational weight gain (GWG) and some other adjustment factors were tested, further stratified analyses were performed separately where interaction terms were significant. Results There were 65.6% (99 of 151) of pulmonary embolus (PE) alone and 34.4% (52 of 151) of deep venous thrombosis (DVT) alone or combined with PE. For all pre-pregnancy BMI categories (underweight, normal weight, overweight and obese), there was no statistical association between maternal weight gain of all gestational intervals and DVT or all VTE in this study. However, for PE, there was observed protective effects of low weight gain (aOR 0.79; 95% CI 0.37–1.68) and significantly increased risks of high weight gain (aOR=1.47; 95% CI: 1.03-2.09) among normal-weight women in early pregnancy. Similarly, a tendency towards decreased risk at lower weight gain throughout pregnancy (aOR 0.79; 95% CI 0.37–1.68) and significantly increased risk at higher values (aOR=1.52; 95% CI: 1.01-2.31) for PE was observed in normal-weight women. As for underweight and overweight women, results from the categorical model for early, late or total pregnancy weight gain indicated an increased risk in PE at both low and high weight gain, but confidence intervals were wide.Conclusion Chinese women have a higher risk of PE than the foreigner counterparts. Maternal weight gain in total or early pregnancy is an important risk factor for PE. In order to effectively improve maternal and child outcomes, intensive weight management that continues through pregnancy may be indispensable.

Today, an important role in the development of pig breeding is given to feeding animals, especially piglets during the transition from milk to vegetable feeding. This crucial period is associated with physiological characteristics of piglet growth and development. Therefore, the problem of developing mixed fodder that gives rise to high weight gain in piglets is relevant for pig farming. The experiments were conducted on piglets aged 15-42 days in Nadezhda farm, Kursk region. The purpose of the research was to increase productivity and form the microbiocenosis in the intestines of piglets. During the study period, barley-wheat mixed fodder was used with additional ingredients: feed fat, alfalfa grass flour and probiotic. Feed fats provide an optimal level of energy for piglets growth. The active substances of alfalfa flour are involved in all metabolic processes in the body, making it effective. Probiotic increases availability and digestibility of feed nutrients. The studies proved that the new composition of SK-3 increased the average daily weight gain by 20.5 %, the gross formation per piglet increased to 21 %. At the same time, survival of animals in the period 15-42 days increased to 100 %. The greatest growth of beneficial intestinal microflora from 107 to 109 CFU/g of feces was observed after feeding experimental piglets with mixed fodder containing grass flour, feed fats and probiotic by day 42. In comparison with the control animals, experimental animals showed a decrease in E. coli - from 107 to 104. The importance of using such ingredients as alfalfa grass flour, feed fats and probiotic in mixed fodder for piglets of 15-42 days of age was revealed. The relevance of the development of new mixed fodder was justified.

Fogera cattle are among indigenous breeds of cattle in the northern part of Ethiopia. However, their response to heat stress (HS) under different seasonal variations has not been well investigated. This study was aimed to determine physiological, hematological, biochemical, and growth parameters of Fogera cattle calves to HS during dry season, short rainy, and long rainy. A total of 72 calves (24 for each season) that were 6 months of age with an equal number of males and females were evaluated for physiological, hematological, biochemical, and growth parameters. Daily ambient temperature (AT) and relative humidity (RH) were recorded two times per day during the study periods from which the daily average temperature–humidity index (THI) was calculated. The study revealed higher AT and THI during dry and short seasons while higher RH was observed during the long rainy season. Physiological parameters except rectal temperature were affected by the seasons. Hematological parameters were also affected by season except for packed cell volume. Biochemical and growth parameters were also significantly affected by the seasons. THI was positively related with physiological but negatively with growth parameters. Thus, the THI value of 66 can be considered as optimum for high weight gain and normal physiological response to HS in Fogera cattle calves under their current production system.

AbstractAmong patients with schizophrenia (SZ) and bipolar I disorder (BD-I) treated with second-generation antipsychotics (SGAs), clinically-significant weight gain (CSWG) and treatment interruptions (TIs) are challenges that may result in morbidity/mortality.CSWG and TIs were assessed among patients who initiated oral SGAs of moderate-to-high weight gain risk (no exposure to index SGAs/first-generation antipsychotics for =12 months) using medical records/claims (OM1 Data Cloud; January 2013-February 2020). Outcomes included CSWG (=7% increase in baseline weight) and TIs (switches [to SGAs of low weight gain risk/long-acting injectables] or discontinuations [no SGAs for >30 days]). Descriptive analyses included proportions of patients with CSWG and TIs, and median time to these outcomes.Approximately three-quarters of patients were overweight/obese at baseline (SZ: N=8,174; BD-I: N=9,142). Within 3 months of SGA initiation, 12% of all patients experienced CSWG. For patients on treatment with index SGAs for >6 months (SZ: 29%; BD-I: 27%), 28% (SZ) and 30% (BD-I) experienced CSWG during follow-up. Median time to CSWG was 14 weeks. CSWG results were numerically similar among patients with SZ and BD-I.Over 96% of patients had TIs during follow-up (median time of 12 [SZ] and 13 [BD-I] weeks). Among patients with CSWG and subsequent TIs and weight measurements, 74% did not return to baseline weight after interrupting treatment; the remainder returned to baseline weight with median times of 38 (SZ) and 39 (BD-I) weeks. Results suggest that most patients with CSWG do not return to baseline weight after stopping treatment with oral SGAs of moderate-to-high weight gain risk.Funding. Alkermes, Inc.

Abstract Background High early postnatal weight gain has been associated with childhood adiposity; however, the mechanism remains unknown. DNA methylation is a hypothesised mechanism linking early life exposures and subsequent disease. However, epigenetic changes associated with high early weight gain have not previously been investigated. Our aim was to investigate the associations between early weight gain, peripheral blood DNA methylation, and subsequent overweight/obese. Data from the UK Avon Longitudinal study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) cohort were used to estimate associations between early postnatal weight gain and epigenome-wide DNA CpG site methylation (Illumina 450 K Methylation Beadchip) in blood in childhood (n = 125) and late adolescence (n = 96). High weight gain in the first year (a change in weight z‐scores > 0.67), both unconditional (rapid weight gain) and conditional on birthweight (rapid thrive), was related to individual CpG site methylation and across regions using the meffil pipeline, with and without adjustment for cell type proportions, and with 5% false discovery rate correction. Variation in methylation at high weight gain-associated CpG sites was then examined with regard to body composition measures in childhood and adolescence. Replication of the differentially methylated CpG sites was sought using whole-blood DNA samples from 104 children from the UK Southampton Women’s Survey. Results Rapid infant weight gain was associated with small (+ 1% change) increases in childhood methylation (age 7) for two distinct CpG sites (cg01379158 (NT5M) and cg11531579 (CHFR)). Childhood methylation at one of these CpGs (cg11531579) was also higher in those who experienced rapid weight gain and were subsequently overweight/obese in adolescence (age 17). Rapid weight gain was not associated with differential DNA methylation in adolescence. Childhood methylation at the cg11531579 site was also suggestively associated with rapid weight gain in the replication cohort. Conclusions This study identified associations between rapid weight gain in infancy and small increases in childhood methylation at two CpG sites, one of which was replicated and was also associated with subsequent overweight/obese. It will be important to determine whether loci are markers of early rapid weight gain across different, larger populations. The mechanistic relevance of these differentially methylated sites requires further investigation.

Background: Overweight maternal pre-pregnancy, obesity and excessive gestational weight gain are significant risk factors for unfavorable maternal and perinatal outcomes during pregnancy. The association of obesity with maternal and perinatal outcomes is poorly understood in Jabal Akhdar region of Libya. This study was to examine maternal and perinatal outcomes in obese mothers compared to non-obese mothers in Jabal Akhdar region of Libya.Methods: This is a Cross sectional survey design study with internal comparison groups. The study was conducted between May 2015 and May 2016 in Jabal Akhdar region od Libya. A total of 415 women at reproductive age were deemed eligible for this study. BMI categories were defined as; underweight (BMI< 18.5), normal (BMI 18.5 – 24.99), overweight (BMI 25 – 29.99), grade I obesity (BMI 30 – 34.99), grade II obesity (BMI 35 – 39.99) and grade III obesity (BMI 40+). Data obtained in this study was analysed using SPSS, version 17.0 was used in analysis.Results: Of 415 women included in this study, 282 had a BMI <30 kg/m2 and 133 women had a BMI >30 kg/m2. Pregnancy-induced hypertension was more prevalent in obese mothers compared to non-obese women. The rate of operative delivery and caesarean section were also demonstrated between obese and non-obese mothers and these differences were significant.Conclusions: This study demonstrates extent of obstetric risks associated with obesity in pregnancy, though more research is required to fully elucidate the effect that maternal obesity is having on maternal and perinatal outcomes in pregnancy in Libyan populations. Since high weight gain is a modifiable risk factor, pre pregnancy health education awareness of health care providers, good behavioral counseling and weight control program during pregnancy should help to modify this risk.

BackgroundPrevious studies have reported an association between weight increase and excess lung function decline in young adults followed for short periods. We aimed to estimate lung function trajectories during adulthood from 20-year weight change profiles using data from the population-based European Community Respiratory Health Survey (ECRHS).MethodsWe included 3673 participants recruited at age 20–44 years with repeated measurements of weight and lung function (forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1)) in three study waves (1991–93, 1999–2003, 2010–14) until they were 39–67 years of age. We classified subjects into weight change profiles according to baseline body mass index (BMI) categories and weight change over 20 years. We estimated trajectories of lung function over time as a function of weight change profiles using population-averaged generalised estimating equations.ResultsIn individuals with normal BMI, overweight and obesity at baseline, moderate (0.25–1 kg/year) and high weight gain (>1 kg/year) during follow-up were associated with accelerated FVC and FEV1 declines. Compared with participants with baseline normal BMI and stable weight (±0.25 kg/year), obese individuals with high weight gain during follow-up had −1011 mL (95% CI −1.259 to −763) lower estimated FVC at 65 years despite similar estimated FVC levels at 25 years. Obese individuals at baseline who lost weight (<−0.25 kg/year) exhibited an attenuation of FVC and FEV1 declines. We found no association between weight change profiles and FEV1/FVC decline.ConclusionModerate and high weight gain over 20 years was associated with accelerated lung function decline, while weight loss was related to its attenuation. Control of weight gain is important for maintaining good lung function in adult life.

Abstract The goal of this study was to evaluate the effect of contrasting growth rate in pre and post-weaning period on carcass traits and meat quality of feedlot Nellore cattle. To high weight gain, in pre and post-weaning period, were be considered management groups with mean weight gain above the third quartile of pre-weaning (PREW) or post-weaning (PROW) weight gain distribution of population to group of moderate gain were be considered management lots with daily average gains between the first and third quartiles of PREW or PROW weight gain distribution of population. In the low gain group will be considered management lots with daily average gains lower than the first quartile of PREW or PROW weight gain distribution of population. We used a total of 500 bulls, registered in the National Association of Breeders and Researchers, fed during 90 days with the same diet, confined and slaughtered. The PREW presented a weight gain rate (WGR) of 57.1, 67.3, and 77.7 kg for low, moderate and high WGR, respectively; and the PROW of 110.3, 113.4, and 119.4 kg for low, moderate and high WGR, respectively. The hot carcass weight influenced WGR in pre-weaning (297.56±11.80, 323.53±10.09, and 364.31±18.88 kg) for low, moderate and high, respectively (P = 0.03). The carcass dressing was affected by weaning period in WGR (pre-weaning: 54.18, 54.33, and 57.88 %; P = 0.034, and post-weaning 55.52, 56.23, and 54.66%; P = 0.471) for low, moderate and high WGR, respectively. The contrasting weight gain groups did not influence the marbling score in PREW (P = 0.128) and PROW (P = 0.772), back fat thickness in PREW (P = 0.719) and PROW (P = 0.833), ribeye area in PREW (P = 0.472) and PROW (P = 0.833), tenderness in PREW (P = 0.936) and PROW (P = 0.911). In general, the gain rate did not improve the carcass traits and meat quality of feedlot Nellore cattle.

Problems of obesity, nutrition and microbiota are discussed in this review. In a world of constant economic and cultural changes traditional diet is being replaced by western diet, rich in free sugars, saturated fats, salt, and characterized by increased average daily dietary energy consumption intake. Such «western-style» diet is associated with high weight gain, leading to metabolic disorders, namely diet-related obesity, which is rapidly increasing globally. The impact of ethnicity to the development of obesity as inter-ethnic and intra-ethnic differences in dietary habits is showed. Dietary habits of different countries, including ethnic minorities, provide a specific pattern of gut microbiota and microbiome. In the context of globalization, international migration and rapid urbanization, changes in dietary habits occurred without proper adaptation of gut microbiota. Gut microbiota plays the fundamental role in regulation and pathogenesis of metabolic disorders due to making metabolites for normal human development, therefore gut microbiota dysbiosis may lead to metabolic dysfunction, including obesity. The review shows actual worldwide data of evolution of adult obesity over time, dietary energy consumption in different country and different climatic regions. It analyzes changes in gut microbiota composition depending on traditional or western diet, and on nationality and race.
