Background: Tea (Camellia sinensis, Theaceae) is the second most consumed beverage in the world. Green tea is the least processed and thus contain rich antioxidant level, and believed to have most of the health benefits. </p><p> Methods: We commenced to search bibliographic collection of peer reviewed research articles and review articles to meet the objective of this study. </p><p> Results: From this study, we found that the tea beverage contains catechins are believed to have a wide range of health benefits which includes neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, antiulcer, antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-parasitic effects. The four major catechin compounds of green tea are epigallocatechin (EGC), epicatechin (EC), epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), and epicatechin gallate (ECG), of which EGCG is the major constituent and representing 50-80% of the total catechin content. And also contain xanthine derivatives such as caffeine, theophylline, and theobromine, and the glutamide derivative theanine. It also contains many nutritional components, such as vitamin E, vitamin C, fluoride, and potassium. We sum up the various green tea phytoconstituents, extraction methods, and its medicinal applications. </p><p> Conclusion: In this review article, we have summarized the pharmacological importance of green tea catechin which includes antioxidant potential, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anticancer, antidiabetic and cosmetic application.

Abstract: Linum usitatissimum (Linn.), Commonly known as flaxseed or flaxseed, belongs to the family Linaceae. Flaxseed is a crop of blue flowers that produce small, flat seeds of golden yellow to reddish-brown color. It is a native of the Mediterranean and West Asia. Due to its health benefits associated with the high content of linolenic acid (ALA), flaxseed has played a major role in diet and research. The ALA is an essential omega-3-fatty acid, and also due to its presence a major lignan, i.e. secoisolaricyrcinol diglucoside (SDG). There is also a wide range of uses of flaxseed oil in skin health, anticoagulants, anticancer, ulcer treatment, muscle growth, and weight loss. The nutritional composition of flaxseed is about 30% carbohydrate, 18% protein, and 39% fat. Flaxseed contains most carbohydrates in the form of fiber and contains more than 45% omega-3 fatty acids. It also contains dietary fibers, proteins and polyunsaturated fatty acids. All the ingredients possess different health benefits. Although plant resources are the key ingredient in drug discovery, the popularity of flaxseed always fascinate scientists, the number of articles giving information about the chemical components of flaxseed and its potential clinical use is very little. This review provides a systematic summary of the research completed over the past decade and provides an up-to-date summary of the various bioactive and outlines the relationship between the nutritional and pharmacological use of chemical ingredients and its flaxseed.

Functional foods containing physiologically-active components, have been reported to confer several health benefits. Longitudinal cohort studies indicate that certain foods and dietary patterns play an important role in primary prevention of numerous disease conditions and this has led to the identification of putative functional foods. Research is necessary to substantiate the potential health benefits of various functional foods for which the diet–health relationships have yet not been scientifically validated. The term ‘functional foods' may include health/functional health foods, foods fortified with minerals/vitamins, dietary supplements or even the traditional medicines (Zawistowski, 2014).

Intake of dietary supplements has increased, despite evidence that some of these have adverse side effects and uncertainty about their effectiveness. This systematic review examined the evidence for the cognitive benefits of a wide range of dietary supplements in healthy young adult samples; the aim was to identify if any might be useful for optimising cognitive performance during deployment in military personnel. Searches were conducted in 9 databases and 13 grey literature repositories for relevant studies published between January 2000 and June 2017. Eligible studies recruited healthy young adults (18–35 years), administered a legal dietary supplement, included a comparison control group, and assessed cognitive outcome(s). Thirty-seven of 394 identified studies met inclusion criteria and were included for synthesis. Most research was deemed of low quality (72.97%; SIGN50 guidelines), highlighting the need for sound empirical research in this area. Nonetheless, we suggest that tyrosine or caffeine could be used in healthy young adults in a military context to enhance cognitive performance when personnel are sleep-deprived. Caffeine also has the potential benefit of improving vigilance and attention during sustained operations offering little opportunity for sleep. Inconsistent findings and methodological limitations preclude firm recommendations about the use of other specific dietary supplements.

The brew tea is the merely food product contains abundant quantity of the catechins. Green tea is the least processed and thus contains rich antioxidant, polyphenols, especially catechin called epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), which is whispered to be responsible for a wide range of the health benefits. The key to the amazing health benefits that are derived from green tea is that the leaves are steamed which preserves the EGCG compound from being oxidized. However, the other varieties of teas are under go fermentation process, which breaks down the potential EGCG and destroy from its healing properties. In reality, green tea has very extensive history dating back thousands and thousands of years ago. However, the pharmacological efficacy and stability of green tea catchiness are primarily depended on the formulation and way to drink to alleviate the deadly diseases with scientific evidence. Nanotechnology is a vibrantly emerging field especially in the pharmaceutical industry to explore a lot of application. The promising nano-delivery system used to enhance the therapeutic efficacy with a minimal dose, minimize the dose-related toxicity, target delivery, site-specific delivery, and controlled/sustain the delivery application. In recent decades, the application of nanotechnology has been utilized for phytopharmaceutical industry including green tea catechins to maximize the health benefits. In this review, we tried our level best retrieve the value of information on nanodelivery application of green tea catchiness for various devastating diseases.

OBJECTIVE: To review the use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in Hispanics in the US and highlight the modalities most likely to be unfamiliar to healthcare practitioners. DATA SOURCES: A search of the literature published in English and a subsequent bibliographic search were conducted using MEDLINE, International Pharmaceutical Abstracts, EMBASE, Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature, and Manual Alternative and Natural Therapy Index System (1980– March 2007). Primary search terms included, but were not limited to, Hispanic, Latino, complementary and alternative medicine, and dietary supplements. Studies that assessed or evaluated the use of CAM in the Hispanic population were reviewed. Articles that included both Hispanics and non-Hispanics were also included. STUDY SELECTION AND DATA EXTRACTION: The literature search yielded 42 articles focused on the use of CAM by Hispanics. Survey was the most common method used in these studies, although some hybrid interviews were also conducted. DATA SYNTHESIS: Hispanics were identified homogenously in some studies and more correctly as a heterogeneous population in others. Some trials examined overall CAM use, whereas others looked at specific dietary supplements and herbs. Most reports found a higher than expected rate of CAM use in Hispanics (50–90%). A number of products potentially unfamiliar to healthcare practitioners, such as linden, sapodilla, and star anise, were reported as commonly used in several studies. Many studies were limited by the sample size or use of only one Hispanic subgroup. CONCLUSIONS: Hispanics use a wide range of CAM therapies, including several that may be unfamiliar to healthcare practitioners. Understanding the rationale, motivations, and history of Hispanics' use of CAM will enhance the cultural competence of healthcare professionals and help address these patients' medical needs. TRASFONDO: El uso de terapias de medicina complementaria y alternativa (CAM) es común entre los pacientes y se cree que la etnicidad influye en la frecuencia y extensión de su uso. Los pacientes de origen Hispano son una sub-población en rápido crecimiento. Con el fin de proveer efectivamente cuidado a este grupo de pacientes, es importante entender el papel de las terapias CAM en los tratamientos de esta población.

Abstract Platelet function disorders are a key cause of abnormal bleeding, and diagnosis is challenging because: platelet abnormalities are diverse, affecting many aspects of function; variability in platelet function testing in clinical laboratories makes it difficult to compare results; large blood volumes required for platelet function analysis make it difficult to perform in neonatal patients; manipulation of platelet rich plasma used for platelet aggregation can lead to test variability; platelet aggregation curves are difficult to interpret in thrombocytopenic patients. We describe a method of testing platelet function using citrated whole blood and thromboelastography (TEG) that overcomes some of these limitations. Commercially-available platelet mapping kits allow the effects of the platelet agonists adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and arachidonic acid (AA) to be assessed via a TEG assay where reptilase and activated factor XIII produce fibrin clots independent of thrombin in heparinized whole blood. The activation and aggregation of platelets is quantified by measuring the difference in maximum amplitude (MA) between unstimulated samples, which form weak fibrin-only clots, and samples with agonists added, which form stronger clots containing fibrin and activated/aggregated platelets. Platelet mapping was used as the basis for a TEG assay which can be used to assess platelet responses to a wide range of stimuli - including ADP, AA, epinephrine, collagen, U46619 (thromboxane-A2 receptor agonist), SFLLRN (PAR-1 thrombin receptor activating peptide) and AYPGKF (PAR-4 activating peptide) - in small samples (330μL) of citrated native (CN) blood or plasma to which heparin is added to a concentration of 20U/mL. Samples were recalcified by adding calcium chloride to 10mM (necessary for the function of reptilase and FXIIIa), and other reagent volumes were the same as in platelet mapping assays, with fibrin activator prepared at 1/2 regular strength. The concentrations of platelet agonists were: collagen 51μg/ml, epinephrine 0.27μM, ADP 5.4μM, arachidonic acid 135μg/mL, U46619 2.6μM, SFLLRN 6.76μM and AYPGKF 34μM. These concentrations produced TEG MA values in heparinated fibrin-activated CN blood from a panel of normal individuals comparable to those obtained from recalcified CN blood in the absence of heparin (the fibrin/platelet response control). The platelet response was rapid with maximum amplitudes reached within 10 minutes for all agonists except collagen, which required &gt;30 minutes to produce maximum amplitude. We have found this TEG platelet-response assay to be useful in detecting platelet function abnormalities, producing results which correlate with and extend those of other platelet function tests. For example in one patient a weak response to epinephrine corresponded to similar platelet aggregation results, and in another the TEG assay detected a weak PAR-1 response not specifically detected in other tests. The assay has also proven useful in assessing platelet function in blood and plasma having low platelet concentrations (&lt;50 x 10E9/L) from experimental or pathological causes (e.g. thrombocytopenia), in titrating platelet responses to agonists and in assessing the effects of antiplatelet agents in vivo and in vitro. Thus this TEG platelet function assay has the advantages of speed, ease of use, flexibility, adaptability to low platelet concentrations and sample economy, requiring small volumes of citrated blood which can be used for other coagulation assays and platelet response tests.

Research has demonstrated the health benefits of a wide range of spiritual practices such as meditation and prayer, and similar nonspiritual practices like mindfulness. Shamanism is a spiritual practice that uses dream recall during ecstatic trances, and scientific research has shown health benefits of dream recall. Researchers have long realized the importance of intrapersonal communication occurring in daydreams, called imagined interactions (IIs), and recently extended the theory to include night dreams. IIs serve six functions: rehearsal, relational maintenance, catharsis, conflict-linkage, self-understanding, and compensation. This study investigates the health effects of ecstatic posture on dream recall in conjunction with the functions of IIs. Results indicate that ecstatic posture while recalling dreams is associated with both heart rate and heart rate variability. However, the II function determines whether the effect is positive or negative.

(1) Background: As cities densify, researcher and policy focus is intensifying on which green space types and qualities are important for health. We conducted a systematic review to examine whether particular green space types and qualities have been shown to provide health benefits and if so, which specific types and qualities, and which health outcomes. (2) Methods: We searched five databases from inception up to June 30, 2021. We included all studies examining a wide range of green space characteristics on various health outcomes. (3) Results: 68 articles from 59 studies were found, with a high degree of heterogeneity in study designs, definitions of quality and outcomes. Most studies were cross-sectional, ecological or cohort studies. Environment types, vegetation types, and the size and connectivity of green spaces were associated with improved health outcomes, though with contingencies by age and gender. Health benefits were more consistently observed in areas with greater tree canopy, but not grassland. The main outcomes with evidence of health benefits included allergic respiratory conditions, cardiovascular conditions and psychological wellbeing. Both objectively and subjectively measured qualities demonstrated associations with health outcomes. (4) Conclusion: Experimental studies and longitudinal cohort studies will strengthen current evidence. Evidence was lacking for needs-specific or culturally-appropriate amenities and soundscape characteristics. Qualities that need more in-depth investigation include indices that account for forms, patterns, and networks of objectively and subjectively measured green space qualities.

We present the genome sequences of nine Bacillus isolates and two Weizmannia isolates from 10 different dietary supplements and one cultured food product. Strains of these species have been associated with health benefits when ingested by humans, due to their ability to survive the stomach’s acidic environment and colonize the intestinal tract.
