In this research, we consider the generation of conductive heat trees at micro and nano scales for cooling electronics which are considered as heat-generating disc-shaped solids. Due to the development of nano technology and its role in the production of small scale electronics in recent decades, the necessity of designing cooling systems for them will be revealed more than any other time. Therefore, tree-shape conduction paths of highly conductive material including radial patterns, structures with one level of branching, tree-with-loop architectures, and combination of structures with branching and structures with loop are generated for cooling such electronic devices. Furthermore, Constructal method which is used to analytically generate heat trees for cooling a disk-shaped body is modified in the present work, that we call it modified analytical method. Moreover, every feature of the tree-shaped architectures is optimized numerically to make a comparison between numerical and analytical results and to generate novel architectures. When the smallest features of the internal structure are so small, the conventional description of conduction breaks down. Hence, the effective thermal conductivity exhibits the “size effect”, and is governed by the smallest structural dimension which is comparable with the mean free path of the energy carriers. Therefore, we consider a model which was proposed for small-scale bodies in order to evaluate conductivity of heat trees.

It is well known that continuum-based thermal transport models, such as the Fourier law, fail when the characteristic size of a system becomes comparable to the mean free path of carriers that transport thermal energy. The current work uses the lattice Boltzmann method to develop two modifications to the Fourier heat equation so that it can capture sub-continuum effects. The two modifications are: (i) a size-dependent thermal conductivity and (ii) a size-dependent temperature jump at the system boundaries.

Advancements in electronic devices have led to increases in mental stress in modern adults, and removing this stress is crucial for mental health. The purpose of this study is to examine the psychophysiological benefits of contact with indoor plants. The effects of transplanting plants (horticultural activity) and work on a mobile phone (control activity) were assessed by blood pressure measurement, electroencephalography (EEG), the semantic differential method (SDM), and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). The SDM data showed that the subjects felt more relaxed, comfortable and natural, and experienced lower anxiety after the transplantation of plants than the control group. Participant’s total alpha and beta wave mean values increased over time during the transplantation task but decreased at the end of the control task. The mean meditation score was significantly higher after transplanting plants. Our study results indicate that contact with plants may minimize mental stress.

Abstract Background: Patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) usually have multiple comorbidities, and some require radiotherapy (RTx) for cancer treatment. However, the effect of RTx in patients with CIEDs is unclear. We aimed to examine the effectiveness of RTx in patients with CIEDs, and share our real-world clinical experience in this population. Methods: We recruited patients with a pacemaker or implantable cardioverter-defibrillator who underwent RTx between April 2009 and August 2019. RTx and CIED interrogation data were collected from electronic medical records. Patients who received an RTx cardiology consultation and CIED interrogation before and after RTx were assigned to the proper consultation (PC) group. All others were enrolled in the no-consultation (NC) group. Results: Out of 23 patients, 3 (13.0%) and 20 (87.0%) patients were assigned to the PC and NC groups, respectively. The most common RTx sites were the abdomen and pelvis (34.8%). The mean cumulative dose was 50.1 ± 11.7 Gy, and the mean beam energy was 10.3 ± 4.01 mV. The PC and NC groups showed no significant difference in cumulative dose (51.5 ± 12.1 vs. 45.3 ± 3.9, p=0.19) or beam energy (10.4 ± 4.03 vs. 7.0 ± 1.41, p=0.08). There was no significant between-group difference in any pre-RTx CIED parameter. Two patients died during the study period; both were in the NC group. The relationship between death and device malfunction was not clear in either case. Conclusions: Patients with CIEDs frequently do not receive a cardiology consultation before RTx. Although radiotherapy-related CIED complications occur stochastically and are difficult to predict, cooperation between the cardiology and radiation therapy departments, and regular device follow-up are necessary for the safety of these patients.

Abstract Background Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common type of arrhythmia. AF-related stroke tends to be more severe, and the mortality rate is higher compared with stroke without AF. The definition of AF in patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) is not clear and the appropriate treatment guideline for patients with AF episode has not established yet. Recent CIEDs have led to an improvement in the early detection of AF episodes, especially in patients who are asymptomatic. Previous studies showed that atrial high-rate episodes (AHREs) detected by CIEDs are associated with embolic stroke events. However, little is known about the incidence of AF and stroke events in Japanese patients with CIEDs who have no prior AF and take no anticoagulant. Objective The purpose of this study was to identify the incidence of embolic stroke events in patients with and without AF events detected by CIEDs and examine the risk factors of embolic stroke events. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the database of our hospital. Every 6 months, AF events were checked by CIEDs. AF30 was defined as AF episodes lasting for ≥30 seconds detected by CIEDs. We examined the characteristics and incidence of embolic stroke events and investigated the relationship between AF30 and the incidence of embolic stroke events. Results We enrolled 348 consecutive patients who had no prior AF and took no anticoagulant in this study (follow-up period, 65±58 months; age, 70±16 years; male sex; 64%; defibrillator, 55%). The mean CHADS2 score and CHA2DS2-VASc score were 1.8±1.1 points and 2.8±1.5 points, respectively. The mean HAS-BLED score was 1.7±1.2 points. During the follow-up, 23 of 348 patients (6.6%) had embolic stroke events. Thirteen patients (4.1%/year) and 10 patients (0.63%/year) had embolic stroke events with and without AF30, respectively. The comparison of characteristics among patients with and without embolic stroke events was shown in Table. In multivariate logistic regression analysis, independent predictors for embolic stroke events were new-onset episode of AF30 (odd ratio [OR] 5.3, 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.2–13, P=0.0003) and an enlarged left atrium ≥40mm (OR 3.1, 95% CI 1.2–7.9, P=0.016). Conclusions Embolic stroke events were common in Japanese patients with CIEDs. AF30 and enlarged left atrium were risk factors of embolic stroke events in this population. Therefore, when physicians detect new-onset AF in patients with CIEDs, they should consider a comprehensive assessment of the risk and benefit of prescribing an anticoagulant.

Abstract Background Under the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Outcome Project, residency programs are required to provide data on educational outcomes and evidence for how this information is used to improve resident education. Objective To teach and assess systems-based practice through a course in health care policy, finance, and law for radiation oncology residents, and to determine its efficacy. Methods and Materials We designed a pilot course in health care policy, finance, and law related to radiation oncology. Invited experts gave lectures on policy issues important to radiation oncology and half of the participants attended the American Society for Therapeutic Radiation and Oncology (ASTRO) Advocacy Day. Participants completed pre- and postcourse tests to assess their knowledge of health policy. Results Six radiation oncology residents participated, with 5 (84%) completing all components. For the 5 residents completing all assessments, the mean precourse score was 64% and the mean postcourse score was 84% (P  =  .05). Improvement was noted in all 3 sections of health policy, finance, and medical law. At the end of the course, 5 of 6 residents were motivated to learn about health policy, and 4 of 6 agreed it was important for physicians to be involved in policy matters. Conclusions Teaching radiation oncology residents systems-based practice through a course on health policy, finance, and law is feasible and was well received. Such a course can help teaching programs comply with the ACGME Outcome Project and would also be applicable to trainees in other specialties.

A variable speed refrigeration system was designed to supply chilled liquid for cooling high-power electronic devices to maintain the temperature at an acceptable level. Fin-plate heat exchangers were adopted to save space. The paper presents the simulation of the refrigeration system to study its steady performance. The simulation model was developed by using a detailed thermodynamic model and containing a series of heat transfer correlations for specific parameters. The cooling capacity of the refrigeration system under different working conditions is investigated. The simulation results keep in agreement with experimental data. The cooling capacity increases with the rise of cooled oil inlet temperature. Besides, condenser cooling liquid inlet temperature affects the cooling capacity greatly. The cooling capacity and the coefficient of performance (COP) of the system under different motor speeds are studied subsequently. The simulation results have been validated by experiments. The mean relative error of the cooling capacity and the COP between simulation results and experimental data is 12.6% and 4.8%, respectively. The results can be used to develop control strategy for regulating refrigeration flow rate to offer adequate cooling capacity and supply cooled oil of constant temperature.

Abstract Objective Suicide is a global public health concern. It is the second leading cause of death among 15 to 29 years old. Suicide ideation often emerges in adolescence and is prevalent among this age group. With the help of leaders, teachers as mentors can play an effective role in the prevention of suicide among children and young adults. The present study was performed to assess the effectiveness of school-based teaching programs on knowledge regarding the recognition and management of adolescent's suicidal behavior among school teachers. Materials and Methods A quantitative research approach with a pre-experimental (one group pre-test and post-test) research design was adopted. The study was conducted at Government schools of East Sikkim among 80 secondary school teachers. The samples were assigned through the purposive sampling technique. A pre-designed knowledge questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge of schoolteachers. A pre-test was conducted during the first week of data collection, which was followed by a school-based teaching program regarding recognition and management of adolescents' suicidal behavior on the second week. A post-test was conducted during the fourth week using the same pre-designed knowledge questionnaire. Data analysis was done using the SPSS version 25 applying descriptive and inferential statistical methods. Results The study findings revealed that in pre-test knowledge score, 5% had good knowledge, whereas in post-test, score 50% had good knowledge regarding recognition and management of adolescent's suicidal behavior. The mean score during the pre-test was 12.78 ± 2.87 and the mean score during the post-test was 16.44 ± 2.50. The computed paired “t” value (11.9) was higher than the tabled value (t79 = 1.99; p < 0.05). An association was found between pre-test knowledge score regarding recognition and management of adolescent's suicidal behavior with gender, religion, and years of working experience at p < 0.05 level. Conclusion The study concluded that school-based teaching programs helped secondary school teachers to improve their knowledge regarding adolescents' suicidal behavior. The gain in knowledge from the school-based teaching program will help them recognize and manage adolescents with suicidal behavior and initiate appropriate referrals in the future.

The aim of the paper is to define the core, the elements and the meaning of personal entrepreneurship (resourcefulness), describe its level among the young in Poland on the basis of sociological surveys (interviews, questionnaires and group discussions with secondary school students), analyse and assess educational programs for personal entrepreneurship in the light of the expectations of secondary school and university students, as well as design education for personal entrepreneurship. Numerous observations of young people in different life situations show that they are not a symbol of a high of personal entrepreneurship. There are many reasons for this including inadequate teaching programs, overuse of electronic devices and the overprotection of their parents. The latter makes young people unmotivated to achieve anything because they can instantly get all they need. In the paper, it is assumed that a fundamental background of entrepreneurship, including in economic, organisational, societal, political and other spheres, must be personal entrepreneurship (resourcefulness). Because in Polish schools and universities this is not taught, the author has presented a personal entrepreneurship education program.

With manufacturing technology innovation and progress of electronic devices of semiconductors, dimensions of electronic devices get smaller nowadays. There has been processing of 90nm and 20nm in production. With in-depth research, scientists are more and more interested in molecular devices. Since the size of molecular devices is small, electrons transfer by ballistic transport. In semiconductor devices, when the transport distance is at micrometer or smaller sizes, the ballistic transport phenomena of electrons and holes of carriers occur. This transfer form is not affected by lattice defects, doping, and interaction of crystal interfaces. Since there is no interference of these interactions, carrier’s velocity can be faster several times than common electronic devices, resulting in the doubled operating speed of these devices. Although it is difficult to achieve pure ballistic transport, when the size of semiconductor devices is close to the mean free path of carriers, the speed of carriers will still be greatly improved.
