Abstract Introduction High myopic eyes grow in length (> 0.35 mm/dpt) more than in height and width leading to a disturbing unilateral exophthalmos in patients with anisomyopia and – more rarely – a bilateral exophthalmos in high myopia affecting both eyes. Secondary consequences are sicca symptoms and painful eye mobility due to a large bulbus in a too small bony orbit. The aim of the work was to evaluate the effectiveness of bony orbital compression in cases of high myopia. Material and Methods Four patients underwent bony orbital decompression between the years 2012 and 2019. Two of the patients received lateral and two of them balanced (medial endonasal endoscopic and lateral) decompression. The decompression effect, complications and the influence of decompression on eye position and motility were evaluated. Results Significant decompression effect was achieved in all patients. As a result, symmetry was restored in all unilaterally affected patients. No complications occurred. The lateral decompression had a positive effect on the preexisting convergent strabismus (reduction of the “eso” position, neutral to the vertical deviation). The carefully dosed medial decompression did not lead to any change of the horizontal position in one patient and in the other exotropic patient it resulted in a 10 pdpt of “exo” reduction without developing an “eso” position. Discussion The bony orbital decompression provides a sufficient decompression effect in the four patients to reduce the myopic pseudoexophthalmos. The alignment anomalies associated with a high myopia (“heavy eye”) was favourably influenced by the lateral decompression.

The analysis of a data set of observation for Vietnamese banks in period from 2011 - 2015 shows how Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) is influenced by selected factors: asset of the bank SIZE, loans in total asset LOA, leverage LEV, net interest margin NIM, loans lost reserve LLR, Cash and Precious Metals in total asset LIQ. Results indicate based on data that NIM, LIQ have significant effect on CAR. On the other hand, SIZE and LEV do not appear to have significant effect on CAR. Variables NIM, LIQ have positive effect on CAR, while variables LLR and LOA are negatively related with CAR.

The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate 4 cases with bi-lateral ectopic mandibular canines and to demonstrate in each case which one of the two canines erupted to a normal position in the dental arch. The canines are observed from Orthopantomograms from 4 children (aged 8-13 years of age) in the mixed dentitions stages. Of these children 2 were males and 2 were females. From each child there was between 3-5 Orthopantomograms. These were observed over 3-4 years period. In each of the 4 cases with bi-lateral ectopia of the mandibular canines the one mandibular canine erupted into a normal position, while the other one declined into a horizontal position during the mixed dentition period. These 4 cases demonstrated that the inclination of the canines were important to observe and diagnose from the initial stage (first ortopantomogram). The cases presented, demonstrated that the unsuccessfully erupted canines ending in a horizontal position, were the canines which inclined slightly more that the contra lateral canine already from the initial stage.

This study examined how weekly, externally set deadlines affected the completion of adaptive learning assignments and student outcomes in an introductory macroeconomics course. We imposed different deadline schemes for the same adaptive learning assignments in two sections of the course. One section was given flexible deadlines and the other section was given rigid weekly deadlines. We found that weekly deadlines did not affect assignment completions or total points earned on unit exams. We investigated how the adaptive learning assignments affected student retention of material. A measure of staying on pace in the course provided a positive effect on the comprehensive final exam for students with weekly deadlines. The weekly deadlines may not have influenced assignment completions but consistent engagement with the flow of topics through the course increased student knowledge retention. Regardless of deadline type, completions of adaptive learning assignments positively affected outcomes on the unit exams and final exam. JEL Classifications: A20, A22

To practice strength and balance activities are shown as useful tools to fall prevention by diverse metanalysis. On the other side, aquatic environment offers interesting properties for a therapeutic reeducation, being the Ai Chi one of its applications. Aim: To evaluate the repercussion of an Ai Chi programme on aged people’s balance. Method: A randomized controlled trial was developed comparing two groups formed by aged people with risk of fall according to the Timed Up & Go test. Intervention Group (IG) followed twelve Ai Chi sessions combined with their thermal programme; and Control Group (CG) just followed the thermal programme. Both groups spent two weeks in the Balneario of Archena (Murcia, Spain). Results: Both groups improve their balance; however, only the IG reached the non-risk of fall from the Timed Up & Go test. Conclusions: The combination of Ai Chi sessions and a thermal programme had a positive effect on aged people’s balance, showing a therapeutic and clinical relevance.

Development of calves depends on prenatal and postnatal conditions. Primiparous cows were still maturing during pregnancy, which can lead to negative intrauterine conditions and affect the calf’s metabolism. It is hypothesized that weaning calves at higher maturity has positive effects due to reduced metabolic stress. We aimed to evaluate effects of mothers’ parity and calves’ weaning age on growth performance and blood metabolites. Fifty-nine female Holstein calves (38.8 ± 5.3 kg birth weight, about 8 days old) were used in a 2 × 2 factorial experiment with factors weaning age (7 vs. 17 weeks) and parity of mother (primiparous vs. multiparous cows). Calves were randomly assigned one of these four groups. Live weight, live weight gain and morphometry increased over time and were greater in calves weaned later. Metabolic indicators except total protein were interactively affected by time and weaning age. Leptin remained low in early-weaned calves born to primiparous cows, while it increased in the other groups. The results suggest that weaning more mature calves has a positive effect on body growth, and calves born to primiparous cows particularly benefit from this weaning regimen. It also enables a smooth transition from liquid to solid feed, which might reduce the associated stress of weaning.

Materialism and sich are the driving spirit of the community in achieving economic and financial security that saves a holistic and socially just welfare. This can be seen from the lives of people in materialistic developed countries, where the level of social stress is higher, economic inequality widens, horizontal conflict is rife. This research uses Pierre Felix Bourdieu's social theory in seeing people trust the expenditure of material with other values, such as spiritual and cultural values that are no less urgent as elements of social welfare development. This study found that materialism on the one hand has a positive effect, where people are encouraged to use material standards in measuring the level of welfare they expect. On the other hand, materialism closes the presence of values such as spirituality, local wisdom and agriculture in completing more holistic welfare standards.

The article follows the narrative trend initiated by the social media posts and fake news during the first months of the corona quarantine, which claims that the decrease of contamination due to the quarantine has a positive effect on the environment and nature recovery. The author describes the context of the topic and follows the changes in the rhetoric through different genres, discussing the ways in which a picture can tell a truthful story. What is the relation between the context, truth, and rhetoric? This material spread globally, yet it was also readily “translated” into the Estonian context, and – what is very characteristic of the entire pandemic material – when approaching this material, truthful and fabricated texts, photos, and videos were combined. From the folkloristic point of view, these rumours in the form of fake news, first presented in the function of a tall tale and further following the sliding truth scale of legends, constitute a part of coping strategies, so-called crisis humour, yet, on the other hand, also a belief story presenting positive imagery, which surrounds the mainly apocalyptically perceived pandemic period and interprets the human existence on a wider scale. Even if these fake news and memes have no truth value, they communicate an idea – nature recovers – and definitely offer hope and a feeling of well-being.

It is precisely in the course of adjusting the activities of these subjects, the main task of state regulation of the bankruptcy institute is the formation of such conditions for the functioning of the national economy, which will reduce the risk of doing business for all its entities and promote the internal reorganization of its structure in accordance with the requirements of global transformations. The system of indicators describing the situation in a certain area of the functioning of national economic entities allows us to determine, directly or indirectly, the effectiveness of the bankruptcy institute at the macro-level. To analyze the impact of each of the factors on GDP, a sensitivity analysis was conducted according to which input data X were recorded at the values of 2018 and alternately changed by 10%. For each such change, GDP was calculated as compared to the model value for 2018. As a result of the calculations, the most sensitive factors were identified and features of the functioning of the bankruptcy institute in the Ukrainian economy were identified. The main provisions of a state policy aimed at increasing the functional effectiveness of the bankruptcy institute are formulated. First of all, it is necessary to promote the country's position in the Doing business rankings, as well as the Indexes of Economic Freedom and Corruption Perceptions. On the other hand, an annual growth of the inflation index of around 10% and the level of the fiscal tax burden will also have a positive effect on GDP dynamics.

Tourism is an important economic sector. Understanding people's travel intentions can be useful for planning destinations, meeting demand as well as possible. In this sense, this study aims to assess what would influence the intention to go to the Diamantina Vesperata, in the State of Minas Gerais [Brazil], using the Theory of Planned Behavior for this purpose, with the inclusion of the constructs past behavior and familiarity. The methodology included bibliographic research for questionnaire elaboration, followed by quantitative research with 125 respondents, 101 of which are valid. The results showed relevance in the inclusion of the new constructs, which had a positive effect on the intention to attend the event. On the other hand, the attitude and the subjective norm did not present significant effects on the intention, corroborating with studies that deal with the complexity of the choice of tourist destination and the difficulty of forecasting the intention, as in other more common behaviors.
