Abstract Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia have grown quite rapidly and play an important role in modern economies. Many innovative products have been developed; however, the monitoring of product quality is rare. The aim of this study was to perform a comparative evaluation of the characteristics of agar sheet products from local MSMEs in Java Island, Indonesia. Moisture content, acid-insoluble ash content, total mould count, heavy metals (Pb, Zn, and As, Cu, Sn, Hg) and gel strength of three different agar sheet products were evaluated. Moreover, evaluation of its commercial packaging was carried out according to the regulation of the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (NADFC). The results reveal that the moisture content of agar sheets ranged from 17.48 % to 21.64 %, the acid-insoluble ash contents were lower than the maximum limit by Indonesian National Standard (INS), whereas according to the sensory inspection, the presence of mould was not found. Heavy metals were found at low levels, below the maximum allowable limit by INS. However, all agar sheets have poor gel strength (approximately 32.24 g/cm2 – 77.49 g/cm2). The result of packaging evaluation showed that neither packaging design, nor packaging label of all agar sheet products were excellent. The packaging label was prepared inappropriately according to NADFC. In conclusion, these agar characteristics and packaging quality were lack the minimum standard required. Therefore, product enhancements, such as processing and packaging innovations can be introduced to meet the minimum standard and improve the quality.

Then on the level of complexity, respondents consider changes in infrastructure and adjustments to product standards. On marketing factors, respondents market their products through online media is 45,9% while marketing through offline media is 54%, one of which dominates them is through exhibitions or bazaars (15,3%). The conclude that there was no significant influence between the evaluation of the nature of innovation, namely the level of relative profitability, level of complexity and the level of observability with adoption of SNI certification. The factors that influence significantly SNI certification was adaptive structuration, they are rate of socialization and testimonial approach. .

Abstract Shrimp paste is very much needed in NTB culinary. Several Micro small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Lombok produce shrimp paste. This study aimed to determine the chemical and physical quality of shrimp paste produced by MSMEs on the island of Lombok. The method used in this study was an experimental method with a Randomized Block Design and a single factor experiment with sampling locations, namely Shrimp paste of Putri Nyale (Jerowaru), Jero Acan (Jerowaru), TelukJor (Jerowaru), Lakara Salwa (Pringgabaya), Udang Rebon (Lembar) and SasakMaiq (BatuLayar). Each treatment was repeated three times to obtain 21 experimental units. The data were analyzed by analysis of variance at a 5% significance level using Co-Stat software. Significant different data were further tested with HSD test. The results showed that the moisture content, pH, hardness (texture) and color (Hue o) of shrimp paste from all producers were significantly different. There was a tendency that the higher the moisture content, the lower the hardness value (shrimp texture). Shrimp paste of Sasaq Maiq has the highest hardness of 39631. 98 kg/cm2 with the lowest moisture content of 23.21 %. Shrimp paste of Putri Nyale has the lowest hardness with the highest moisture content of 37. 55 %. Moisture content of Lakara Salwa shrimp paste and SasakMaiq does not meet the quality standards of shrimp paste (SNI 01-2716.1-2009). The acidity level of shrimp paste produced by MSMEs in Lombok is significantly different with a range of 6.4 to 7.57 which is influenced by the length of fermentation applied. Based on Hue°, the Lakara Salwa shrimp paste produces a red color range due to the use of dyes and other shrimp paste has a yellow red color with the use of natural raw materials.

The paper considers necessary conditions for acceleration of labor productivity growth in Russia. Based on micro data, as well as aggregate data, the paper quantifies the contribution of small and medium firms to labor productivity growth. It shows that mere increase of the number of small and medium enterprises is not as important for positive effects of these programs, as qualitative improvements: development of favorable environment for growth, which is largely determined by business climate. Accelerating productivity growth involves redistribution of labor and capital from inefficient to efficient enterprises. In particular, it is necessary to create conditions, which allow a firm to grow after it enters the market instead of stagnating as a small firm with low efficiency. At the same time, it is necessary for ineffective firms, which exhausted their growth potential, to have an opportunity to exit the market easily leaving resources including labor to fast-growing companies.
