The ever increasing development of portable electronics leads to a higher demand for compact and reliable power sources. Significant resources are being presently dedicated to the study of micro machined turbines, because of their remarkable power density that suggests that the generation of about 100–300 W with a total device weight of few hundreds grams and a fuel mass flow rate of few grams per second may be feasible in the short range. In this paper a possible configuration of such a nano-GT set is considered, which was defined on the basis of previous thermo-fluid dynamic analysis: the results of a preliminary design study, including some cold-run tests, are reported in this paper. The layout of the device was finalized on the basis of both a CFD and a FEM analysis that identified the “optimal” blade shape, shaft size and rotors arrangements under the point of view of the energy efficiency and of thermo-mechanical material stresses, Some of the problems deriving by the physical construction and preliminary testing of the prototype are analyzed and discussed.

In the last decades, the enormous growth in portable electronics applications has stimulated research in lightweight and reliable power sources. In this technological niche, the idea of developing miniaturized turbomachinery to serve as portable power sources is attractive, especially in view of the much higher power density of a small turbogas generator in comparison with conventional chemical batteries. The potential social impact of an eventual commercialization of such “nano-devices” is enormous, but the technological and phenomenological complexity of the design and manufacturing of ultra-small machines (with a rotor diameter of the order of 1 cm) poses difficult problems, because some of the well-established design procedures for large and medium scale machines do not seem to be applicable as such at these extremely reduced scales. In this work the design and performance of a miniaturized gas turbine with a tip diameter of about 10 mm is examined from a thermo-fluiddynamic point of view. An extensive series of CFD simulations allows for the quantification of the losses at the resulting low Reynolds numbers (∼4600 in the stator and ∼1500 in the rotor) on the single-curvature geometry imposed by manufacturing constraints. The geometry of the blades is “optimized” on the basis of an entropy generation rate analysis, and the capabilities and limitations of conventional design strategies are assessed.

In the past decades, the progress of wearable and portable electronics is quite rapid, but the power supply has been a great challenge for their practical applications. Wearable power sources, especially wearable energy-harvesting devices, provide some possible solutions for this challenge. Among various wearable energy harvesters, the high-performance fabric-based triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) are particularly significant. In this review paper, we first introduce the fundamentals of TENGs and their four basic working modes. Then, we will discuss the material synthesis, device design, and fabrication of fabric-based TENGs. Finally, we try to give some problems that need to be solved for the further development of TENGs.

The article examines the results of the last Bundestag elections. They marked the end of the Angela Merkel era and reflected the continuation of difficult party-political and socio-economic processes in the informal leader of the European Union. The main attention of the research focuses on the peculiarities of the election campaign of the leading parties and of the search for ways of further development of Germany in the face of urgent economic and political challenges. These challenges include the impact of the coronavirus crisis, the impact of the energy and digital transition to a climate-neutral economy, and the complex international situation. Based on original sources, the author analyzes the causes of the SPD victory and the CDU/CSU bloc defeat, the results of the negotiations of the Social Democrats with the Greens and Liberals, the content of the coalition agreement from the point of view of the prospects for the development of domestic and foreign policy and the economy of Russia's main partner in the west of the Eurasian continent. The conclusion is made about the absence of breakthrough ideas, the consistent continuation of the course started by the previous government for a carbon-free economy and the strengthening of the role of Germany in Europe and the world. For this course, conflicts and problems in achieving the set goals will be immanent due to the compromising nature of the coalition agreements.

Aquaculture is a technique to produce food that is under debate, due to its possible consequences for altering the economy, traditional fishing included, or the environment, even with doubts about the health of consumers. This document studies its social acceptance from the point of view of carrying capacity. This term is defined as the level at which this activity begins to be disproportionate and poses important disadvantages for society. In this context, we conducted 803 surveys in six coastal provinces in Spain. The results show that the acceptance of these products is good, implying that aquaculture is far from reaching its saturation point in society. Additionally, the respondents gave a higher priority to socio-economic objectives than to environmental ones. We can conclude that the further development of this sector is advisable in these provinces. The general perception of aquaculture is better among men, and also among higher-income consumers. Informative activities should be organized to target these more hesitant groups. Production structures should be revised to overcome biases in the population about the idea that the food obtained from aquaculture harms the environment or is less natural or healthy. The possible abuse of feed and chemicals spreads this idea, and this could affect the taste and quality adversely.
