Abstract Composite materials are very predominant in the areas of industrial applications, aerospace and defense sectors. Aluminium metal matrix composites are main targeted materials by many researchers because of its low density, high strength, corrosion resistance and economical that makes material suitable for aerospace and automobile sectors. In this work effect of china clay volume fraction on mechanical properties of AA7075/B4C composite was investigated. Effect of china clay volume fraction on mechanical properties was analyzed with the help of results obtained by XRD, tensile, compression and micro hardness tests. From the experimentation analysis and results it was clear that added china clay acts as effective binder material for efficient compaction and ejection of green compacts from the die material after cold compaction processes and gives high strength to the composite material up to 7% volume fraction in sintered composite while in tensile strength after that material strength starts to degrade. In this work critical volume fractions of china clay in AA7075/B4C composite was investigated in tensile, compression and hardness. Further, effect of heat treatment on mechanical properties of the composite material was investigated.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have very high specific strength and stiffness. The excellent properties make it possible to enhance the mechanical properties of polymer matrix composites. However, it is difficult to use CNTs as the reinforcement of long fibers because of the limitation of CNT growth. In recent years, a method to spin yarns from CNT forests has developed. We have succeeded in manufacturing the unidirectional composites reinforced with the densified untwisted CNT yarns. The untwisted CNT yarns have been manufactured by drawing CNTs through a die from vertically aligned CNT arrays. In this study, the densified untwisted CNT yarns with a polymer treatment were fabricated. The tensile strength and the elastic modulus of the yarns were improved significantly by the treatment, and they were 1.9 GPa and 140 GPa, respectively. Moreover, the polymer treatment prevented the CNT yarns from swelling due to impregnation of the matrix resin. Finally, the high strength CNT yarn composites which have higher volume fraction than a conventional method were successfully fabricated.

Titanium and its alloys have evolved faster than any structural material in the history of metallurgy. The increasing employment of titanium in many different applications is mainly due to its light weight, high strength and structural efficiency. The titanium metal matrix composites (Ti-MMCs) have helped to achieve these objectives. The aim of this work is the development and study of Ti-MMCs manufactured via hot pressing at 900 °C reinforced by sub-micron and micron boron carbide (B4C), amorphous boron and sub-micron and micron titanium diboride (TiB2) particles in order to improve its mechanical properties. Full dense composites were obtained with this consolidation technique. The influence of the different reinforcements has been analyzed. Moreover, the strengthening effect of sub-micron reinforcements is compared to the effect of the material with the same chemical composition in a micro-scaled phase. Comparison has been established studying the microstructure (grain size and density) and mechanical properties through tensile and hardness tests.

In this research aluminum matrix composites (AMCs) was reinforced by titanium carbide (TiC) particles and was produced. Powder metallurgy technique (PM) has been used to fabricate AMCs reinforced with various amounts (0%, 4%, 8%, 12%, 16% and 20% volume fraction) of TiC particles to study the effect of different volume fractions on mechanical properties of the Al-TiC composites. Measurements of compression strength and hardness showed that mechanical properties of composites increased with an increase in volume fraction of TiC Particles. Al-20 % vol. TiC composites exhibited the best properties with hardness value (97HRB) and compression strength value (275Mpa).

Composites have tremendous applicability due to their excellent capabilities. The performance of composites mainly depends on the reinforcing material applied. A Graphene nanoparticle (GNP) is successful as an efficient reinforcing material due to its versatile as well as superior properties. Even at very low content, graphene can dramatically improve the properties of polymer and metal matrix composites. In this paper the effects of GNP on composites based on epoxy resin were analyzed. Different contents of GNP (0 – 4.5 vol. %) were added to the epoxy resin. The GNP/epoxy composite was fabricated under room temperature. Mechanical tests result such as tensile, flexural and hardness test show enhancements of the mechanical properties of the GNP/epoxy composite. The experimental results clearly show an improvement in Young’s modulus, tensile strength, and hardness as compared to pure epoxy. The results of this research are strong evidence for GNP/epoxy composites being a potential candidate for use in a variety of industrial applications, especially for automobile parts, aircraft components, and electronic parts such as super capacitors, transistors, etc.

Copper-matrix composites reinforced with SiC particles are prepared by mechanical alloying. The microstructure characteristics, relative density, hardness, tensile strength, electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity and wear properties of the composites are investigated in this paper. The results indicate that the relative density, macro-hardness and mechanical properties of composites are improved by modifying the surface of SiC particles with Cu and Ni . The electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity of composites, however, are not obviously improved. For a given volume fraction of SiC , the Cu / SiC ( Ni ) has higher mechanical properties than Cu / SiC ( Cu ). The wear resistance of the composites are improved by the addition of SiC . The composites with optimized interface have lower wear rate.

This research Investigates the new composite materials are fabricated of two or more materials raised. The fibers material from the sources of natural recycled materials provides certain benefits above synthetic strengthening material given that very less cost, equivalent strength, less density, and the slightest discarded difficulties. In the current experiments, silk and fiber-reinforced epoxy composite material is fabricated and the mechanical properties for the composite materials are assessed. New composite materials samples with the dissimilar fiber weight ratio were made utilizing the compression Molding processes with the pressure of 150 pa at a temperature of 80 °C. All samples were exposed to the mechanical test like a tensile test, impact loading, flexural hardness, and microscopy. The performing results are the maximum stress is 33.4MPa, elastic modulus for the new composite material is 1380 MPa, and hardness value is 20.64 Hv for the material resistance to scratch, SEM analysis of the microstructure of new composite materials with different angles of layers that are more strength use in industrial applications.

Metal matrix composites attain a significant position in Industrial, defense, structural and automobile applications. To amplify that strategy there is a need to find out the conditional behavior of the composites and enhancing the properties will be mandatory. The present work mainly investigates on the effect of processing parameters like densification rates, sintering temperature, reinforcement content on the microstructure, mechanical properties of the Al7175/B4C composite material fabricated by mechanical milling and powder metallurgy techniques. Results show there is a grain size reduction and refinement in the composite material through ball milling operations and along with that increasing B4C content in the composite powders make milling conditions very effective. Increasing the sintering temperature results in a consistent grain growth along with that porosity level decreases up to a limit and then attain a steady state, the strength of the composites increases with compaction pressures but reinforcements content effects the strength of the material by losing its ductility making it brittle.

In the present study, the aluminum (Al) 1050–FeTiO3 composite was fabricated through accumulative roll bonding process, and the resultant mechanical properties were evaluated at different deformation cycles at ambient temperature. The effect of the addition of FeTiO3 particle on the microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of the composite during accumulative roll bonding was investigated. The Al–2, 4, and 8 vol.% FeTiO3 composites were produced by accumulative roll bonding at room temperature. The results showed improvement in the dispersions of the particles with the increase in the number of the rolling cycles. In order to study the mechanical properties, tensile and hardness tests were applied. It was observed that hardness and tensile strength improve with increasing accumulative roll bonding cycles. The microhardness and tensile strength of the final composites are significantly improved as compared to those of original raw material Al 1050 and increase with increasing volume fraction of FeTiO3, reaching a maximum of ∼75 HV and ∼169 MPa for Al–8 vol.% FeTiO3 at seventh cycle, respectively.
