Electronic cigarettes regulation in Indonesia has not been set yet. In the last 4 years the electronic cigarettes have been widely distributed and used in Indonesia. Electronic cigarettes contain nicotine, propylene glycol, glycerol, liquid flavors, etc. All ingredients produce vapor when heated. Vapor and particles from electronic cigarettes affect the human health. Formaldehyde is known as a product of propylene glycol and glycerol vapor degradation. Formaldehyde is one of the chemical agents categorized as carcinogen. The aim of the research was to analyze the identification of formaldehyde vapor concentration and health complaint of electronic cigarettes smoker. The research was conducted in Surabaya city, Indonesia, from October 2015 to December 2016. The research used cross-sectional approach. Sample was obtained by purposive sampling that fulfilled samples inclusion criteria. The variables were the onset of smoking electronic cigarettes, smoking frequency of electronic cigarettes, formaldehyde vapor concentration, cotinine urine, and health complaint of electronic cigarettes smoker. The result showed that formaldehyde concentration in six vapors varied while cotinine urine mostly was positive. It is suggested to educate people about hazard of electronic cigarettes and to conduct further research to identify chemical agent in electronic cigarettes.

AbstractExtracellular potential is an important parameter which indicates the electrical activity of live cells. Membrane excitability in osteoblasts plays a key role in modulating the electrical activity in the presence of chemical agents. The complexity of cell signal makes interpretation of the cellular response to a chemical agent very difficult. By analyzing shifts in the signal power spectrum, it is possible to determine a frequency spectrum also known as Signature Pattern Vectors (SPV) specific to a chemical. It is also essential to characterize single cell sensitivity and response time for specific chemical agents for developing detect-to-warn biosensors. We used a 4x4 multiple Pt microelectrode array to spatially position single osteoblast cells, by using a gradient AC field. Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT) and Wavelet Transformation (WT) analyses were used to extract information pertaining to the frequency of firing from the extracellular potential.

Pleural effusion is present when there is >15ml of fluid is accumulated in the pleural space. It can be divided into two types; exudative and transudative pleural effusion. Tuberculosis and parapneumonic effusion are the common cause of exudative pleural effusion whereas heart failure accounts for most of the cases of transudative pleural effusion. This study was a hospital based cross sectional study performed at Nepal Medical College during the period of January 2016-December 2016. A total of 50 patients who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were enrolled. Pleural effusion was confirmed by clinical examination and radiology. After confirmation of pleural effusion, pleural fluid was aspirated and was analysed for protein, LDH, cholesterol. The Heffner criteria was compared with Light criteria to classify exudative or transudative pleural effusion. Among 50 patients, 30 were male and 20 were female. The mean age of patient was 45.4±21.85 years. The sensitivity and specificity of using Light criteria to detect the two type of pleural effusion was 100% and 90.9%, whereas using Heffner criteria was 94.87%, 100% respectively(P<0.01). There are variety of causes for development of pleural effusion and no one criteria is definite to differentiate between exudative or transudative effusion. In this study Light criteria was more sensitive whereas Heffner criteria was more specific to classify exudative pleural effusion. Hence a combination of criteria might be useful in case where there is difficulty to identify the cause of pleural effusion.

The research of this research to analysis dietary compliance of low purine diet in uric acid patients in Wara Health Clinic Year 2016. Type of this research that was used cross sectional approach and use a sampling technique was purposive sampling. The sample of the research was a portion of gout patients enrolled in Wara Health Clinic that fulfilled the inclusion criteria were 42 people.Based on the analysis by using statistical test Fisher's exact test, the value p = 0468 (p> 0.05%), it can be concluded that the hypothesis "there is no correlation between dietary compliance low purine with uric acid in Puskesmas Wara Palopo".Based on the result of research purpose recommendations were provide clearly information about the low purine diet and provide support in the form of motivation for pay attention of type food consumed so as to prevent the increasing of uric acid. <p><strong><em>Abstract: Knowledge of Pregnant Women About Sexual Relations Position During Pregnancy</em></strong><em>. The purpose of this study was to determine the knowledge of pregnant women about the position of sexual relations during pregnancy in BPM Wahidah, S.ST Year 2017. This research type is descriptive research with cross sectional approach by using accidental sampling technique. The population of this study were pregnant women who did the examination in BPM Wahidah, S.ST. The number of samples is 50 respondents who meet the inclusion criteria. This research started from 6-21 february 2017. The result showed that pregnant woman's knowledge about the position of sexual relationship during pregnancy was mostly (54%) knowledgeable enough. A small percentage of respondents aged 20-35 years ie 11 people (22%) have enough knowledge, from the work showed that almost half of respondents ie 23 people (46%) who do not work have enough knowledge, from education showed that almost half of respondents or 16 people (32%) who have medium education have enough knowledge, and from parity shows that almost half of respondents are 14 people (28%) who are multiparous have enough knowledge.</em></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>Abstrak : Pengetahuan Ibu Hamil Tentang Posisi Hubungan Seksual Pada Masa Kehamilan. </strong>Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengetahuan ibu hamil tentang posisi hubungan seksual pada masa kehamilan di BPM Wahidah, S.ST Tahun 2017. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan <em>cross sectional </em>dengan menggunakan teknik <em>accidental sampling. </em>Populasi penelitian ini adalah ibu hamil yang melakukan pemeriksaan di BPM Wahidah, S.ST.Jumlah sampel sebanyak 50 responden yang memenuhi criteria inklusi.Penelitian ini dimulai dari tanggal 6-21 februari 2017. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengetahuan ibu hamil tentang posisi hubungan seksual pada masa kehamilan sebagian besar (54%) berpengetahuan cukup. sebagian kecil responden umur 20-35 tahun yaitu 11 orang (22%) memiliki pengetahuan cukup, dari pekerjaan menunjukkan bahwa hampir setengahnya responden yaitu 23 orang (46%) yang tidak bekerja memiliki pengetahuan cukup, dari pendidikan menunjukkan bahwa hampir setengahnya responden atau 16 orang (32%) yang berpendidikan menengah mempunyai pengetahuan cukup, dan dari paritas menunjukkan bahwa hampir setengahnya responden yaitu 14 orang (28%) yang multipara memiliki pengetahuan cukup.</p>

Objective: Fever alone can lead to rare serious complications in children, such as febrile seizures. The aim of this study is to assess the knowledge, beliefs, and behavior of parents toward fever and its management. Methods: A cross-sectional study using an online questionnaire was applied over a period of 3 months, from January to March 2018, to parents who were living in Saudi Arabia. The inclusion criteria were a parent who is a resident of Saudi Arabia, with at least one child aged 6 years or less, while incomplete questionnaires, having a child aged more than 6 years, or parents who were not living in Saudi Arabia were excluded. Results: A total of 656 parents completed the questionnaire. More than two-thirds of the subjects were female, the majority of whom were aged between 25–33 years old. The best-reported place to measure the temperature of children was the armpit (46%), followed by the ear (28%) and the mouth (10.7%). More than half of the parents considered their children feverish at a temperature of 38 °C. The majority of parents (79.7%) reported that the most serious side effects of fever were seizure, brain damage (39.3%), coma (29.9%), dehydration (29.7%), and death (25%). The most common method used to measure a child’s temperature was an electronic thermometer (62.3%). The most common antipyretic was paracetamol (84.5%). Conclusions: Our study demonstrates the good knowledge of parents in identifying a feverish temperature using the recommended route and tools for measuring body temperature.

The objectives of this study were to correlate several factors - including depression, anxiety, stress and self-esteem levels in both men and women - with the occurrence of domestic violence against women (VAW) during quarantine. This cross-sectional study was carried out in April 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic when lockdown procedures were implemented; 86 married couples participated in this study amounting to 172 responses in total. A different questionnaire was set for women and men; the couple filled out their respective questionnaire simultaneously, but privately where one did not see the answers of the other. Inclusion criteria included married couples of all ages that are living together during the lockdown of COVID-19. The results of this study showed that a higher total abuse score was found in 39 females (45.3%; CI: 0.34 - 0.56). Being a Muslim female (Beta =24.80) and females having higher anxiety (Beta=0.97) were significantly associated with higher total abuse scores, whereas higher stress score in female (Beta=-0.61) was significantly associated with lower total abuse scores. In conclusion, this study focuses on VAW as a serious problem while demonstrating its further emergence during quarantine. This study also focused on the effects brought on by lockdown policies, including social and economic factors, and their implications in the increase of VAW during this pandemic.

Following their introduction a decade ago, electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) have grown in popularity. Given their novelty, knowledge of the health consequences of e-cigarette use remains limited. Epidemiologic studies have not comprehensively explored associations between e-cigarette use and hypertension, a highly prevalent health condition and major contributor to cardiovascular disease burden. In this study, cross-sectional associations of cigarette smoking and e-cigarette use (vaping) with self-reported diagnosed hypertension were evaluated among 19,147 18–55 year old respondents in Wave 3 (2015–2016) of the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health Study. Multivariable analyses first modeled smoking and vaping as separate 2-category variables, then as a 6-category composite variable accounting for former smoking. After adjusting for potential confounders, current vaping (aOR = 1.31; 95%CI: 1.05–1.63) and current smoking (aOR = 1.27; 95%CI: 1.10–1.47) were both associated with higher odds of hypertension. In analyses modeling smoking and vaping compositely, respondents who were concurrently smoking and vaping had the highest odds of hypertension (aOR = 1.77; 95%CI: 1.32–2.39 [referent: never smokers]). These results differ somewhat from prior epidemiologic studies of vaping and respiratory outcomes, which consistently report smaller point estimates for current vaping than for current smoking. Our findings reinforce the uncertainty surrounding long-term health consequences of vaping, as well as highlight important distinctions between respiratory and cardiovascular outcomes when considering the harm reduction potential of e-cigarettes.

Abstract Vaccination has reduced the disease burden of vaccine-preventable diseases. However, the extent to which seasonal cycles of immunity could influence vaccine-induced immunity is not well understood. A national cross-sectional serosurveillance study performed in the Netherlands (Pienter-2) yielded data to investigate whether season of vaccination was associated with antibody responses induced by DT-IPV (diphtheria, tetanus and poliomyelitis), MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) and meningococcus C (MenC) vaccines in children. In total, 434 children met the inclusion criteria to study DT-IPV immunity, 811 for MMR and 311 for MenC. Differences in log(antibody levels) by season of vaccination were investigated with linear multivariable regression analyses. Seroconversion rates varied according to season of vaccination for rubella (90% of autumn-vaccinated children vs. 99% of winter-vaccinated had concentrations above cut-off levels). Summer-vaccinated boys showed a slower decline of tetanus antibodies (6% per month), in comparison with winter-vaccinated boys. In conclusion, season of vaccination showed little association with immunological protection. However, a number of associations were seen with a P-value of about 0.03; and adding data from a just-completed nationwide serological study might add more power to the current study. Further immunological and longitudinal investigations could help understand the mechanisms of seasonal influence in vaccine-induced responses.

ObjectiveThis report aimed to systematically review the evidence for a differential association between objective and self-reported physical activity and cardiorespiratory fitness on academic achievement.DesignSystematic review.Data sourcesStudies were identified from searches in Embase, Education Resources Information Center, PubMed, PsycINFO, SPORTdiscus and Web of Science databases from January 2000 to December 2016.Eligibility criteria for selecting studiesEligibility criteria included cross-sectional, longitudinal and interventional study designs. Outcomes included students’ school grade or a standardised test or measure of academic achievement. Explanatory variables were cardiorespiratory fitness and objective and self-reported physical activity. Inclusion criteria included school-aged children and adolescents aged–18 years (or students from primary to secondary school when student’s participants age was not described) and articles published in English, Portuguese or Spanish.ResultsA total of 51 articles met inclusion criteria: 41 cross-sectional, 2 intervention and 8 longitudinal studies. Results from 11 studies were inconsistent regarding the relationship between objectively measured physical activity and academic achievement. Ten of the 16 articles reported positive associations between self-reported physical activity and academic achievement. From the 22 studies that analysed the relationship between cardiorespiratory fitness and academic achievement, it was verified that they all generally support the beneficial effect of cardiorespiratory fitness on students’ academic achievement.ConclusionHigher cardiorespiratory fitness may be important to enhance children and adolescents’ health and, additionally, academic achievement. Due to a lack of consensus across studies, methodological issues associated with the assessment of physical activity should be considered when investigating physical activity and academic achievement.

Aim: To determine the frequency of sensorineural deafness in child with cerebral palsy. Study Design: Descriptive/cross-sectional Place and Duration of Study: Department of Neurology, Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana from 1st October 2020 to 31st March 2021. Methodology: One hundred and seventy patients of both genders age between 1-14 years were enrolled. Children diagnosed as having cerebral palsy and fulfilling the inclusion criteria was included. Hearing assessment was done with audiometry and degree of hearing loss was recorded in both ears in the form of mild, moderate, severe and profound degree of hearing loss. Results: Most of the patients 90 (52.94%) were between 1-5 years old followed by 51(30%) patients between 5-10 years with mean age of 4.8±7.8 years. 115 (67.65%) cases were males and 55 (32.35%) females. 54 (31.8%) cases had microcephaly and116 (68.2) cases had normal head circumference. Among 170 cases of cerebral palsy 48 (28.23%) cases had hearing loss and 122 (71.77%) of patients of CP had no hearing deficit. Among 48 cases of CP with hearing loss 15 (31.25%) cases had mild, 14 (29.17) cases had moderate, 10 (20.83%) had severe and 11 (22.92%) cases had profound hearing loss. Conclusion: The frequency of sensorineural deficit is high and significantly associated with cerebral palsy patients. Keywords: Degree of hearing loss, Sensorineural hearing loss, Cerebral palsy
