The postmodern impulse within the modern discipline of psychology is analysed in this article in relation to the ways in which discourse and qualitative research is accounted for within student practical reports. I take these to exemplify key themes within the discipline that function to ward off the potential challenges of relativism and multiplicity offered by postmodern ideas. I discuss the arena of ‘methods’ as a central pedagogic structure for the filtering of knowledge and the erasing of subjectivity in psychology. After identifying key areas of both continuity and critique between postmodern ideas and psychology, I go on to analyse student accounts of the achievements and limitations of discourse and qualitative research which, alternatively, they claim improve upon, or fail to meet the standards of, psychological rigour and discovery. I argue that these highlight strategies of either incorporation or rejection of the critical potential of, in particular, discourse analysis. By such means ‘the crisis’ in modern social psychology becomes part of the continuing narrative of the discipline that can be identified, researched and ‘found’, rather than the story of the impossibility of its project and the desirability of its demise.

It results to them who are still trying in winning their rights as women. This novel is so attractive to be observed because it bases on the reality and most of people still do not it yet so that we can know about the ideology and discourse construction that wants to deliver by the author. This research used a qualitative research with discourse approach of Teun A. Van Dijk. Van Dijk divides it into three dimensions: Textual dimension that examines the structure of text, the view of social cognition, understanding and mental awareness of the author and also social context according to the discourse that grows among of society. The result shows that all the information within the sentences of the novel have coherence and unity so that it creates shape and meaning. In this article, we will analyze the narratives about the natural resources indicated as conducive to cultivation in Brazilian soil present in the reading book Cousas Brasileiras (1896) as instructors of useful knowledge for the ideal republican man between 1890 and 1896. Therefore, we will dialogue from decolonial concepts and, when selecting the speeches, we will carry out the analyzes to highlight the educational purposes of the period that were immersed in liberal ideas, intending to point out the ideal citizen. With this, when developing the study we will present the effort undertaken by the author to form modern values that are directly linked to the formation of the colonizing aspects. Situating within the scope of qualitative research in Education, of documentary type, with procedures for discourse analysis, thus, we will demonstrate how the formation of the values of modernity was inherent to the formation of the colonizing aspects as an initiative of political-ideological affirmation for the development of Brazilian nationality and its economic progress.

The analysis of data represents the most important and difficult step in the qualitative research process. Thus, recently, a few authors have written methodological works that contain discussion of an array of qualitative data analysis approaches. Yet, despite the call of Leech and Onwuegbuzie (2007) a decade ago for qualitative researchers to analyze a given set of qualitative data in multiple ways, this practice has been largely ignored. Thus, in this article, we bolster the argument for conducting multiple data analyses. In particular, we use data stemming from an interview to demonstrate how using five qualitative data analysis approaches (e.g., constant comparison analysis, discourse analysis) helped to enhance what we refer to as analysis saturation, thereby increasing verstehen (i.e., understanding).

Management journals are currently responding to challenges raised by the “replication crisis” in experimental social psychology, leading to new standards for transparency. These approaches are spilling over to qualitative research in unhelpful and potentially even dangerous ways. Advocates for transparency in qualitative research mistakenly couple it with replication. Tying transparency tightly to replication is deeply troublesome for qualitative research, where replication misses the point of what the work seeks to accomplish. We suggest that transparency advocates conflate replication with trustworthiness. We challenge this conflation on both ontological and methodological grounds, and we offer alternatives for how to (and how not to) think about trustworthiness in qualitative research. Management journals need to tackle the core issues raised by this tumult over transparency by identifying solutions for enhanced trustworthiness that recognize the unique strengths and considerations of different methodological approaches in our field.

Twenty-two family members of seven children in ambulatory cancer treatment in a hospital from Rio de Janeiro participated. Data production occurred in family members' houses, from September 2011 to May 2012. The data were analyzed according to discourse analysis. Two thematic units emerged: childhood cancer - a happening about play; and playing in the course of the child's illness and treatment: a possibility to rescue care of maintaining life. Maintaining play is a child's need that demands nursing care of a different nature, to assure the right to play during treatment, in order to reduce traumas and damage to their development.

This study comparatively analyses the allusion and analogies of Indonesian Presidents’ by wayang characters and stories. It particularly interrogates how wayang characters and lakon allude and mediate the personal and political identities of Indonesian presidents in the Reformasi era. The study focuses on the portrayal of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Jokowi during Reformasi era. The study is a qualitative research and deploying Textual and Critical Discourse Analysis approaches. These are to examine how language in the selected wayang kulit and wayang golek stories, as a form of social and cultural practice, constructs the personal and political identities of the presidents. Central to the analysis, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is in most cases alluded as Semar, and his association with selected lakon significantly inform on the political and personal identities among Indonesians and the International community. On the other hand, Jokowi is alluded to as Petruk but presenting contradicting allusions and analogies in Indonesian politics. Generally, findings suggest that the portrayal of Indonesian presidents’ identities by wayang characters and in the lakon is never fixed. The change of political atmosphere and failure to meet peoples’ expectations culminate in changes on the portrayal of political and personal identities of presidents.
