Socio-cultural Identification and Self-Appraisal of General Competence in Multicultural Communication in Foreign Students The article presents the results of research on socio-cultural identification and self-assessment of general competences for intercultural communication carried out among foreign students preparing for studies in Polish under the socalled zero year. The behaviors of participants in the communication process, including intercultural communication, are conditioned by situational factors that are based on the socio-cultural context. Interaction participants set the situation in a known cultural context, which in the case of intercultural communication can lead to misunderstanding and frustration. Therefore, negotiating the meanings in the interaction of multicultural partners faces many conditions. Among those conditions, knowledge of the language (or lack thereof ) is just one of many elements. The remaining elements are general, cognitive and cultural competences as well as a set of competences including knowledge, practical skills and mindsets relating to social and communication behavior. The research was conducted among MCK PK students and it pertained to competences for multicultural communication. To reach this goal, slightly modified research tools prepared by a research team from the University of Bialystok were used. The collected data has been subjected to statistical analysis and interpretation.

Intercultural communication involves verbal and nonverbal messages. The communication process is conducted not only by means of verbal messages but also by other elements that constitute body language. This process becomes significantly more complicated when cultural contexts are also taken into account. A message which is unambiguously understood and interpreted by the representatives of one culture may have quite a different interpretation in other cultures. It is therefore highly important to take cultural context into consideration during business talks. Being ignorant of this aspect can significantly impact the results of negotiations. Are we doomed to failure caused by cultural differentiation, then? Is the cultural aspect of communication an insurmountable barrier? Certainly not. It is obvious in talks with foreigners that one cannot avoid mistakes and misunderstandings resulting from the inaccurate interpretation of words and gestures. During a time of globalization, mergers and takeovers, intercultural communication is unavoidable. Every new intercultural dialogue brings new experiences and reduces the risk of faux pas based on cultural differences.

This article is devoted to the study of the peculiarities of adaptation of foreign students to the learning process in Russian universities. Adaptation of students to the University is considered as a process of their adaptation to the conditions of the University, to new methods and forms of education, to the norms of the student body and to future professional activities. Foreign students are representatives of different cultures and, in this regard, may differ greatly from Russian young people, so the process of their adaptation has its own characteristics. This point is very important for University teachers to understand and take into account. How the process of adaptation of a foreign student will take place depends on the effectiveness of his/her education at the University, mastering the future profession. The success of adaptation is determined by many objective and subjective factors. The language barrier was identified as one of the main difficulties for foreign students: more than half of the students of the Yakovlev state University have great difficulties communicating in Russian. The process of adaptation of students is influenced by the level of development of adaptability. In the course of the research, the diagnostics of foreign students' adaptability was carried out, for this purpose, the methods "self-Assessment of psychological adaptability" and "Assessment of emotional and activity adaptability" were used. The research was conducted at the I.Ya. Yakovlev Chuvash state pedagogical University. After processing and analyzing the results, the author concludes that the adaptability of most students is at a low level of development. At the same time, there are more girls with low socio-psychological adaptation than boys. In addition, a method was conducted aimed at studying the level of students ' anxiety. The analysis of the data showed that there is a link between the level of anxiety and the level of adaptability: the higher the anxiety indicators, the lower the adaptability indicators. In conclusion, it is concluded that more than half of foreign students experience difficulties related to adaptation to higher education.

The article is dedicated to the issue of modernizing Serbian university education. Modernization as a transnational process has had a tangible influence on education. The debate on modern university education highlights the education models associated with pan-European traditions, with the German one serving as a key and needing to be localized. In historical and cultural context Serbia has always been open to accommodate efficient Western practices to local realities. The central challenge to such a modernization is to meet existing needs of scientific development, expert qualification and preserve the cultural continuity throughout the history. The University of Belgrade, the first one in the country and a leading one, followed the German academy model. However, its development was conditioned by cultural and political shifts, with changes in educational policy after each of the World Wars and the student movement of 1968 serving as examples. The Faculty of Philosophy has always had a special place among the oldest university schools, intertwining the classics (which later manifested themselves in philological research) and the positivist knowledge (history, psychology, sociology, etc.). Modern teaching demonstrates the continuity of traditions combined with innovations, which is essential to development of any educational system. This trend meets the national interests of Serbia as a European country, with its great history and openness to peaceful intercultural communication.

The rapid and radical changes in the life of Ukrainian society, the processes of globalization and integration, the continuous expansion of the spheres of international, interethnic communication indicate that further development of mankind is possible only with the dialogue of representatives of different national-cultural and religious communities that can understand and perceive another culture as equivalent. It is in these conditions that the education of foreign students is considered as a means of safe and comfortable existence in the new society, and the goal of education is the formation of intercultural communication among future foreign doctors, as well as the formation of tolerant consciousness among students at such levels as personality, society, and state. Foreign students from different countries represent different ethnic groups, different cultural, religious, linguistic relations, cultural education, which causes difficulties in the life of foreign students who influence the formation of their intercultural communicative competence. The analysis of scientific literature shows the constant interest of scholars in the problems of the formation of a tolerant linguistic personality of a foreign medical student. It is necessary to create an atmosphere of tolerance, openness, respect for one another and a sense of solidarity. The principle of tolerance implies tolerance and respect for the opinion of another person, impartiality in the assessment of people and events, and the positivity of relationships. The problem of forming the readiness of foreign students to perceive the cultural environment, teaching intercultural communication involves a number of more complex aspects: the formation of a culture of communication in another for them socio-cultural and linguistic environment; Taking into account psychological peculiarities of adult education; Taking into account psychological peculiarities of cognitive communicative activity of foreign students in the natural linguistic environment; Raising the culture of interethnic communication in the group, at the faculty, in the university, etc.; Formation of skills and abilities of the "dialogue of cultures"; the formation and development of theoretical and practical readiness for intercultural communication, which is the main means of educating a tolerant personality. Therefore, tolerance is defined by us as a respectful attitude to someone else's opinion, loyalty in the assessment of actions and behavior of other people, readiness for understanding and cooperation in solving issues of interpersonal, group and interethnic interaction. Formation of a tolerant linguistic personality in the process of teaching intercultural communication is aimed at stabilizing the internal situation in the student collective, ensuring friendship of peoples (social function); Enriching people with spiritual culture; Inducing them to spiritual cooperation (educational function); Formation of socio-ethical qualities facilitating intercultural consent in society (psychological function). The main mechanism for forming a tolerant linguistic personality is that the personality of each student is the subject and the object of intercultural relations and brings its share into the treasury of world experience, each person in one or another degree is a participant in a free political and cultural dialogue, the ownership of which contributes the mental compatibility of people, respect, acceptance and understanding of different cultures, which are the conditions of humanity's movement for spiritual integration, respect for the languages, traditions and culture of other peoples, the formation of a world culture in.

The article focuses on the multi-ethnic environment of the University, which reflects both multi-vector global and local processes and specificity of educational practices affecting the relationships in the University eco-environment. The authors consider the processes of adaptation of international exchange students in Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics (TUSUR) and the importance of intercultural interaction within these processes. Special attention is given to the harmonization of the University interethnic environment, the formation of friendly barrier-free interaction, which is possible because of the systemic work of educational process participants. The object of the research is the adaptation and intercultural communication in the student environment, with the focus on the specificity of adaptation of international exchange students. The authors draw on the theory of intercultural communication and employ methods of sociological survey and mathematical statistics. The survey, conducted in the fall of 2019 among 120 first-and second-year students from 36 countries with the use of a spontaneous sample type. The respondents were offered a questionnaire aimed at identifying the most urgent problems of adaptation in TUSUR. The survey resulted in a review of the challenges related to the adaptation of foreign students to new conditions in the host community. The results of the research bring to light new sociocultural approaches to the work with foreign students and can be used to optimize the interethnic interaction activities of educational system agents.

In order to be able to properly accommodate the increasing number of foreign students attending Italian universities, to make the Italian university system more attractive and finally to provide more accurate and refined tools, we would need to take actions whose final objective is to improve the quality of the reception and the education offer. The goal of the present study is to present a tool, a test to detect the use of mitigation strategies by university students of Italian as a FL/SL, that goes on this direction and that can be used in research and experiments in the domains of linguistics, teaching techniques and intercultural communication. A pilot study of this test is currently being carried out at the University of Utrecht, the University of Amsterdam and the University of Leiden. In what follow I will present both the reasons and the choices of the design and some preliminary results.

The interest in the problems of foreign language learning and the process of building linguistic attitudes among foreigners is essential in language learning. The awareness of language as a system with its links and subsystems means understanding the need to also study it in a particular system.The model of communicative competence includes not only linguistic but also psychophysical and social characteristics, i.e. not only knowledge of language but also abilities for the realization of comprehensive discourse in various communicative situations. This model is crafted and enriched over time. In the process of learning a noun, it is very important that students develop competence concerning the parts of speech as well as their proper use in the communication process. One of the essential aspects of the learning process is the development of language competence. We find it very important to be able to adapt the scientific knowledge so that foreigners can understand it and apply it in the communication. The scope of communicative competence concerning the nouns suggests that account must be taken not only of the language code but also of what can be said; to whom; how to build; how to interpret discourse according to social roles and situations, knowledge and value orientations in communication.The concept of the lessons is oriented towards the formation of communicative competence in the Bulgarian language, while at the same time emphasis is also placed on the deepening of the linguistic knowledge of the students studying Bulgarian language. The descriptive approach in the presentation of linguistic information is balanced by the practically oriented selection of topics for dialogic or monologic texts that reinforce the competence of learners to participate in situations of communication reproducing similar scenarios to their professional practice.Graded by complexity and subject matter, the different exercises and tasks for editing, transforming or constructing are consistent with the professional terminology that is necessary for medics, dentists and pharmacists to master to be adequate participants in the learning process concerning relevant professional areas.The established concept of working with foreign students in Bulgarian language education is being tested and improved to establish a reliable and modern socio-cultural context of the formation of grammatical notions and the development of linguistic attitudes among foreigners towards the language.

This article details the process of self-reflection applied to the use of traditional performance indicator questionnaires. The study followed eight speech-language pathology graduate students enrolled in clinical practicum in the university, school, and healthcare settings over a period of two semesters. Results indicated when reflection was focused on students' own clinical skills, modifications to practice were implemented. Results further concluded self-assessment using performance indicators paired with written reflections can be a viable form of instruction in clinical education.

Abstract The growing number of foreign applicants looking forward to getting education in Ukrainian medical universities makes us find the ways how to improve and make effective the pre-professional training system of foreign medical applicants for further education. The article deals with the issues of the history of formation and development of the preprofessional training system of foreign medical applicants in Ukraine. On the ground of the electronic databases of the official websites of higher educational establishments, the data on years of opening first offices of the dean, departments and preparatory faculties for foreign medical applicants in Ukrainian medical universities are analyzed and systematized. Also the data on the setting up preparatory faculties at other universities who carry out licensed training of foreign students of the medical profile are presented. The data on the operating and management of such institutions in the system of the University administration are generalized. It’s revealed that during the years of its functioning the pre-professional training has changed, in particular the system was commercialized and the institutions involved in training foreign applicants have been reorganized. The modern trends in teaching foreign medical students at the preparatory faculties of the Ukrainian medical universities are displayed. Based on the analysis of the data it is concluded that the system of the pre-professional training of foreign medical applicants was set up in the 50s-60s years of the twentieth century. During this time, some positive experience in the preparation of future international medical specialists has been gained. The system of the pre-professional training of foreign medical applicants has been comprehensively improved and an effective system of managing foreign medical applicants has been created.
