Abstract. Cokrowati N, Risjani Y, Firdaus M, Andayani S. 2021. Accelerated growth of Kappaphycus alvarezii using Sargassum aquifolium extract and its anatomical characteristics. Biodiversitas 22: 5195-5202. Cultivation of Kappaphycus alvarezii seaweed has been carried out in Ekas Bay of Jerowaru Sub-district, East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia but its production has decreased in the last three years due to its slow growth. In 2014, seaweed production was 1,882,875.50 tons and in 2017 it was 1,037,000 tons. Efforts are needed to increase growth by providing growth triggers from marine natural ingredients, namely Sargassum aquifolium. These brown algae can be found in the waters of Ekas Bay, the numbers are abundant and untapped. The purpose of this study was to analyze the growth of K. alvarezii given S. aquifolium extract. This research was conducted in the waters of Ekas Bay. The method used is experimental. The experimental design used was a completely randomized design with different treatments of K. alvarezii soaking time using S. aquifolium extract. The results showed that the growth of K. alvarezii given S. aquifolium extract increased and was significantly different between treatments. The highest absolute weight was 479 g in treatment A (soaking for 2 hours) and the lowest absolute weight was 181.25 g in treatment K (control). The highest growth rate occurred on the 18th day, namely 9.24% and the lowest was in the K treatment (control) which was 1.3%.

Fermentation process using known microbial species can be exploited for the processing of white pepper. It is expected to generate quality of white pepper in a short period soaking time. This research aimed to study characteristics of white pepper through a fermentation process by addition of combination isolates of Acetobacter sp., B. subtilis, and B. cereus. After threshing, 2 kg of fresh pepper berries was soaked in water mixed with starter culture. The experiment used a completely randomized design, two replications. The treatment consisted of: A) starter culture ratio of Acetobacter sp.: B. subtillis: B. cereus (A1 = 0:0:0; A2 = 1:1:1; A3 = 2:1:1; A4 = 1:2:1; and A5 = 1:1:2) and soaking time (B1 = 5 and B2 = 7 days). Fermented pepper was decorticated, washed, and dried. The best treatment was fermented for 7 days with the combination isolates of Acetobacter sp., B. subtilis, and B. cereus with ratio 2:1:1. This condition produced white pepper in fulfilling in requirement of SNI standards with piperine and essential oil contents and TPC of 5.95%, 2.95% and 1.1 x 102 CFU/g, respectively. This process is expected to generate high quality of white pepper in a short soaking time.

<p>Seurukan fish (<em>Osteochilus vittatus</em>) has many advantages, besides the fish also has disadvantages which are the slow growth, so the temperature shock of triploidization technique was expected to solve the problem.   The objective of the present study was to obtain an effective temperature to increase of triploidization success of <em>seurukan</em> fish (<em>Osteochilus vittatus</em>). The experimental method and completely randomized design model were used in this study. Five levels of temperature shocks at three replicates were tasted: 4℃ (cold), 6℃ (cold), 28℃ (normal), 35℃ (heat) and 37℃ (heat). The sperms and eggs were fertilized in the plastic jar then a total 100 of fertilized eggs (zygotes) were taken randomly 3 minutes after fertilization and soaked in respective temperature for 90 seconds, and then incubated in incubation jars at the water temperature of 28-29℃. The results showed that the temperature shock gave the significant effect on the hatching and the success of triploidization success (P˂0.05), but did not give the significant effect the fertility and survival rates (P&gt;0.05). The triploid fish can be achieved using cold and heat shock, but the higher triploid fish was recorded at 37℃ was the best temperature recommended for triploidization of <em>Seurukan</em> fish.</p>

INFLUENCE OF CONCENTRATION AND SOAKING TIME OF A. pintoi IN THE COW URINE ON PLANT GROWTH. Cow urine has an auksin a, auksin b, and IAA (hetero auksin) that can stimulate plant roots. The present study was conducted to determine the influence of concentration and soaking time in the cow urine on Arachis pintoi (A. pinto) growth. This study used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) in Factorial arrangement with 2 factors A and B. Factor A= urine concentration: A1 = urine 75% + water 25% and A2; urine 50% + water 50%; and factor B = soaking time: B1 = 1 hour; B2 = 2 hours; Dan, B3 = 3 hours. Treatments were replicated 4 times. Parameters measured were: leaves amount (sheets), plant length (cm), and root weight (g). Research results showed that mean leaves amount ranged from 41,65 to 46,77 sheets, plant length 35,97-36,67 cm, and root weight 1,95-1,72 g. Utilization of cow urine with a different concentration and soaking time gave a non significant different (P>0.05) on leaves amount, plant length, and root weight. It can be concluded that cow urine concentration and soaking time do not effect leaves amount, plant length, and root weight of Arachis pintoi (A. pinto). Key words:  Cow urine concentration, Soaking time,  A. pintoi.

The use of formalin increasingly widely circulated among sellers tahu, because nature tahu easily broken then the sellers know much use out using formalin. Turmeric has active compounds that issaponin. It can be used to minimize the presence of formaldehyde in tahu This study used tahu immersed in 5% formalin solution added a solution of turmeric. The research carried on in the Laboratory of the Polytechnic Palembang Health Nutrition Department. Determination of formaldehyde using a spectrophotometer test. The study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with a model of Factorial three factors, namely soaking treatment (60 minutes, 75 minutes, 90 minutes) giving a solution of Turmeric (0 %, 10 %, 15 %, 20 %) and storage factor (0, 24, 48, 72 hours). The parameters used are formaldehyde levels and organoleptic test. These results indicate that treatment of soaking time did not significantly affect the levels of formaldehyde in tahu that F count -0.022 smaller than F table 6.94. Treatment addition of turmeric solution concentration does not significantly affect the levels of formaldehyde at 0.864 tahu that F count is smaller than F table 3.16. The storage time treatment also did not significantly affect the levels of formaldehyde in tahu that F count -11.16 smaller than 2.73. However, the interaction between the immersion treatment, turmeric solution concentration and storage time significantly affect the levels of formaldehyde in the tahu, namely 282.16 F count larger than F table 1.75. And the results of organoleptic able to change the texture of aroma and color in tahu with decreasing levels of formaldehyde in tahu. In this study, formaldehyde levels lowest in 90 minutes soaking treatment, the concentration of 20 % deposit 72 hours .

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to analyze the potential use of açaí seeds as an alternative ingredient in the feed of slow-growth broilers until 28 days of age. We carried out a bromatological analysis of fractions of the açaí fruit. The açaí seed without mesocarp was the best choice for formulation of the açaí seed bran (ASB), which was evaluated in terms of bird performance and economic viability of the supplemented feed. A total of 416 male chicks of the French Red-Naked Neck lineage were used in a completely randomized design with four treatments (0, 2, 6 and 10% inclusion of ASBin the feed) with eight replicates each. The results indicated that ASB can be included in proportions of up to 10% in the diet of slow growth broilers at early development stage without impairing performance. The 10% inclusion level also was economically equal to the control treatment, representing a viable alternative for broiler production, with potential for reduction of the negative impacts generated by açaí residue in the environment.

One of the difficulties of producing native species seedlings is slow growth. The objective of this study was to evaluate the initial development of Amburana cearensis (Allem.) A. C. Smith in relation to the concentration decomposed buriti stem substratum and nitrogen doses. A completely randomized design was used in a factorial arrangement of 3 × 5 (proportions of decomposed buriti stem × nitrogen doses), with six replicates. The treatments were formulated substrates comprised of decomposed buriti stem manually mixed with soil (Dystrophic Yellow Latosol) in three proportions (0, 25 and 50%) and five nitrogen doses (0, 100, 200, 300 and 400 mg dm-3) applied in treatments. There was no significant interaction between the DRM and ND factors. However, there was an isolated effect for the following variables: Plant height (PH), stem diameter (SD), leaf number (LN), leaf area (LA), dry mass of the aerial part (DMA) and root length (RL). The best concentrations of the substrate for the variables PH, LA and DMA were 25% and 50%, whereas for SD, LN and RL, the best result was 50%. ND and other variables had good responses under recommended doses ranging from a minimum of 264.82 mg dm-3, observed in DMA, and a maximum of 400 mg dm-3, observed in RL. Both factors positively the quality of umburana seedlings.
