This research is aimed to discuss the history and development of HT in Indonesia, the understanding on the HT’s concept of state, and kind of challenges of the HT movement. Using Piötr Stzompka’s theory of social movement, it seems that HT used social movement by keeping on doing critics and showing the inadequacy of system of government, at the same time it offers khilafah Islamiyah concept as the alternative. The research uses a qualitative phenomenological method through the method of data collection found in books, articles and interviews in magazines and websites. The article uses the interpretative type of data analysis. The study shows that HT is one of Islamicmovements preserving a conservative ideology. The main agenda is bringing back Islam authority in the past and developing Islamic state led by a Khalifah through bai’at. The model of leadership in this ‘dream state’ is a sole leadership, while Islamic state is geographically an unlimited state. In other word, the khalifah is the leader of Islamic state for all around the world. This community has spread the ideology in many regions and has reached circles in different kinds of background and society. The purpose is to promote khilafah Islamiyah in the world. HT tends to reject secularism because they classify this concept as kufur that against the Islamic view. From the beginning, HT has a clear and unchanged attitude to this case. This can be seen from its consistency using books from HT’s Amir that also be used in Indonesia.

The creation of the Islamic State in Iraq and Sham (ISIS) changed the nature of jihadism worldwide. For a few years (2014–2017) it exemplified the destructive capacity of jihadism and created a new utopia aimed at restoring the past greatness and glory of the former caliphate. It also attracted tens of thousands of young wannabe combatants of faith (mujahids, those who make jihad) toward Syria and Iraq from more than 100 countries. Its utopia was dual: not only re-creating the caliphate that would spread Islam all over the world but also creating a cohesive, imagined community (the neo-umma) that would restore patriarchal family and put an end to the crisis of modern society through an inflexible interpretation of shari‘a (Islamic laws and commandments). To achieve these goals, ISIS diversified its approach. It focused, in the West, on the rancor of the Muslim migrants’ sons and daughters, on exoticism, and on an imaginary dream world and, in the Middle East, on tribes and the Sunni/Shi‘a divide, particularly in the Iraqi and Syrian societies.

What is the reason why there is no significant progress in solving gender equality issues in the West yet? Several reports and researches have pointed out to this problem. On the contrary, Islam provides a viable solution to this ever increasing problem; for Islam has a comprehensive yet simple view of gender equality. But the West, instead of understanding Islamic principles objectively, raises objections without a thorough study. However, the Western principle of gender equality has completely failed. In this article a critical analysis of the western gender equality and Islamic principles has been carried out. It also highlights Islamic view point of gender equality. The study argues that the contemporary gender equality problems and issues that have engulfed the world particularly the Western countries can be mitigated by employing the Islamic principles of gender equality

Symbols have been a crucial part of all religions in the world for they can represent religious values, ideas, and events. This study seeks to examine the meaning of religious symbols in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, and their role in maintaining socio-religious harmony in the region. Qualitative and interpretative in nature, data collection techniques in this study were carried out through interviews, observation, and documentation. Meanwhile, data analysis employed a grounded theory design. The results of this study indicate that the symbols of religious pluralism are visible on the Pura Meru (next to the Nurul Falah mosque), on the statues of various religious figures at the Pura Mayura, and on the Pura Lingsar, a home for an ancient building called Kemalik. These symbols have been recognized as common properties of Hindus and Muslims and as places to get blessings. There is also the Topat War festival which is a legacy of Muslim and Hindu traditions used as a medium to pour out any form of anger among religious adherents and then end with peace. Those symbols are believed to be able to foster togetherness and harmony in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. In general, these religious symbols have made Cakranegara and Lingsar peaceful areas free from religious conflicts to date.
