IKEA has its roots in Småland, historically one of Sweden’s poorest regions, so hard work and economizing with resources have always been part of our heritage. We’ve been making a lot out of very little for more than 60 years. Based on a deep knowledge of people’s lives at home, IKEA offers good quality, durable and functional home furnishing products for everyday life today. We are completely committed to our vision to create a better everyday life for the many people. This commitment extends to our suppliers and all who work for them. The IKEA Way on Purchasing Products, Materials and Services (IWAY*) is the IKEA Supplier Code of Conduct. It states the IKEA minimum requirements relating to the Environment and Social Working Conditions, including the prevention of child labour. IWAY and all of its activities are dependent upon co-operation, mutual trust and respect between the supplier and IKEA.Initially, flat packs and smart ways of transport were invented to save money. Over the years, we have learnt that saving money and the environment usually go hand in hand and rarely conflict with each other. During the past 10 to 15 years, we have developed our Sustainability Program where we work on responsible forestry, water treatment, cotton grown in a more sustainable way and many more projects, together with partners such as WWF.* Current IKEA social projects in partnership with UNICEF, UNDP andSave the Children will have benefited 100 million children by the end of 2015. This includes a lot more than just providing a great home furnishing offer. It is also about taking social and environmental responsibility towards IKEA customers, coworkers and the people who produce our products. The decision to integrate sustainability in all IKEA business strategies is a milestone for our continued work towards becoming a sustainable company.

The Lezgi folk mystery is one of the interesting genres of Lezgi folklore, created by the working masses for many centuries. Studying them has scientific and practical pedagogical significance. There are no special works devoted to Lezgian folk puzzles. This explains the relevance of our appeal to this genre of folklore. The object of our study is the genre diversity of Lezgian folk puzzles. The main objectives of the work are: conducting a comprehensive, diverse study of the Lezgian folk puzzles and obtaining a holistic view of them. To achieve this goal, we set and solve a number of interrelated tasks, the priority of which are: a) through the prism of folk riddles to consider individual aspects of everyday life, to show how it reflected the worldview of the simple working people in the past; b) to characterize the features and to reveal the artistic skill of the people in the creation of verbal works; c) identify the origins and basic artistic principles of Lezgi folk riddles, etc. The need for a holistic understanding of the actual, theoretical and pedagogical heritage of the Lezgian folk mystery led to historical-comparative and comparative methods of its study.

This is a book of encounters. Part memoir, part essay, and partly a guide to maximizing a capacity for fulfillment and expression, this book taps into the artistic side of what we often take for granted in everyday life: the stories we tell, the people we love, the metaphors used by scientists, even our sex lives. This book explores how poems serve us in daily life and how they are used in times of personal and national crisis. The text explores meaning and experience, covering topics ranging from poetry in the life cycle to the contemporary uses of ancient myths. The book introduces readers to the many eccentric and visionary characters the author has met in his career as a folklorist. Covering topics from Ping-Pong to cave paintings, from family poetry nights to delectable dishes at his favorite ethnic restaurants, the book aims to inspire readers to expand their consciousness of the beauty that resides in everyday things and to use creative expression to engage and animate that beauty toward living a more fulfilling awakened life, full of laughter. To live a creative life is the best way to engage with the beauty of the everyday.

Dogs are the earliest and most widespread domestic animal in the world, and, thus, they are potentially an everyday matter for some peoples both in the past and in the present. Arriving with humans to the Americas at the end of the Pleistocene, dogs helped people hunt; protected their families; and carried wood, meat, and other household items. One strategy to explore the social and cultural reasons for humans keeping dogs is to use historical fiction to imagine the activities that dogs took part in and what those activities may have meant for the people around them. In this chapter, we join “Dog,” a male dog living during the Archaic period in the Southeast, and follow him throughout year.

Jeremy Nuttall’s chapter examines the many-sided relationship between social democracy and ‘the people’ in Britain. Standing up for ordinary people is the very purpose of social democracy, and yet the people have frequently seemed to social democrats a disappointment. Yet, the chapter also suggests that scholars and political analysts tend to under-play the extent to which progressivism and the voters have managed to operate in constructive harmony in the past, and the potential in the present moment for them to do so again. For all the contemporary allure of populism, the British people have been, and are, on the whole, better than some of the worst sentiments aroused by the ‘Brexit’ project indicate, and their better instincts are open to more forward-looking political agendas. The chapter also contends, however, that channelling this more progressive side of the people will require social democrats to raise their game, too.

The aim of this work is to develop a methodology that will allow the identification and study of dermatoglyphics in ancient archaeological finds of biological nature. Dermatogliphs are one of the many instruments used as a safe method of personal identification in forensics and in the study of human populations. Because living human groups are the direct descendants of ancient peoples, anthropological studies of mummified remains are of great importance in the reconstruction of the cultural and biological identity of the people of the past. Two feet and a hand of pre-Dynastic mummified remains belonging to the Egyptian Marro collection of the Museum of Anthropology and Etnography of Turin have been evaluated. In order to recuperate papillary signs, the most recent techniques used in forensics have been used. Both qualitative and quantitative analyses have been performed. This work brings together anthropological and forensic knowledge, and opens the opportunity for a new field of studies in which it is possible to apply recent findings in dactiloscopy to ancient mummies.

Folklore is one of the components and transmitters of a nation's national identity and its spiritual heritage. The great folkloric wealth of Albanian people shows its antiquity and creative genius. As the first creation of folklore, it is the basis for the creation and continuous functioning of other cultivated arts, such as: music, literature, choreography or other visual arts. Albanian folklore also represents a vital, early, stable and rich tradition. It is not a memory of the past, but it is alive and full of life and day by day it comes and is practiced articulated emotionally, developing, enriching and growing together with the Albanian people themselves, despite the many changes that are noticed in the realities of Albanian folklore in general. Through folklore, our people over the centuries manifested outstanding talent, spiritual expressive potential, great promotional skills. Albanian folk music tradition is generally an oral tradition based on the memory of the people; she did not feel the need for writing because she was born, spread and selected to live word of mouth and generation after generation, adapting to the needs and requirements of life.

Toilets are an integral part of everyday life. In historiography, this topic is not new, but it is still not given enough attention. Perhaps this is due to the delicacy of the object? However, the ambiguity of the topic does not deny its relevance and importance, revealing the daily routine of the past. In this case various objects and constructions, discovered during archeological investigations, becomes very important. Their detailed analysis reveals not only the peculiarities of the construction of the privies, but also shows various aspects of everyday life, the attitude of the people of that time to cleanliness and personal hygiene. Cesspit localization analysis reflects the culture of garbage disposal, reveals some urban solutions. Content of the cesspits can show people’s eating habits, past illnesses, and even ingenuity (for example, by hiding expensive things in the privy). This article presents a brief history of the privies, their types and their construction in the middle Ages, presenting examples from Vilnius and foreign cities. Besides attention is paid to the possibilities of identifying such type of objects during archaeological research and, later, in the laboratory.

Danske OL-deltageres møde med de olympiske lege. Bl.a. svømmeren Jytte Hansen i 1948. My life’s Olympic fairytale – a personal encounter with the Olympic gamesOdense City Archives has a project running at the moment in which erstwhile participants in the Olympics Games tell their Olympic stories. With the help of a range of volunteers, the archive has had interviews conducted and collected material from and about earlier Olympic participants from Odense. It is the participants’ own personal experiences and their encounter with the Olympic Games which lies at the heart of this little survey, one of whose functions is to provide documentation for the colossal changes which élite sport has undergone during the past 100 years. When we read and listen to the participants’ encounter with the Olympic Games, we quickly sense the huge and decisive significance they had on people’s lives. This is not to say that the Olympics changed everything, for everyday life returned again. Many, however, took home with them positive memories and experiences, even though they never got anywhere near winning a medal. When the Danish participants with the Danish flag at their head marched in to the Olympic stadium and felt the roar of the multitude of spectators, many of them felt a lump in their throat. Expressions like ”an unbelievable experience” or ”my life’s fairytale” recur frequently in the interviews. A chronological reading of the many interviews does not only tell the story of each sportsperson’s experiences. Taken as a whole, they also reflect the way in which Danish élite sport gradually became better organized, became more professional. While sporting talents in the 1940s and 50s were more or less left to themselves during the preparations for the games – and even during the games themselves – in the 1960s and 70s training camps, special trainers and the like began to emerge. (20) Participants were selected earlier so there was plenty of time for optimal preparation, just as it became easier to take time off to prepare for the Olympic Games.
