The objective of this study was to evaluate the crude protein content of Urochloa spp.cultivars (U. brizantha cv Marandu and U. decunbens cv. Basilisk), within a consortium systemwith Macrotyloma axillare cv Guatá. The experimental design was a completely randomized design, with four replications, in a factorial scheme (2 x 2), at which two types of grass (U. decumbensand U. brizantha) and two pasture types were studied (intercropped or exclusively fertilized with 60kg of nitrogen/ha) with repeated measures in time (samplings at two seasons of the year: February(summer) and August (winter)). Subsequently, samples were collected from a 2 m long PVC bar atfour points in each picket, and the forage cut close to the ground, with costal mowing coupled with0.5 m length hedge trimmer, each sample of 0.5 x 2.0 m, totalizing 1m2. The sampled material wasidentified, weighed and sent for analysis of crude protein to assess the contribution of leguminousin grass protein content. No significant differences were found when the type of grass versus type ofpasture interaction for the crude protein variable was met; however, significant differences were foundwhen evaluating the type of grass versus season interaction, at which the highest levels were foundwithin the month of February (summer), the same occurring for the interaction type of pasture versusseason of the year. It was concluded there were increases in crude protein content for U. decumbenscv. Basilisk and U. brizantha cv. Marandu when in consortium with M. axillare cv. Guatá in thesummer season. Keywords: Biological nitrogen. Forage. Forage quality. Leguminous.

Cassava peels is one of agriculture waste having potency as feed for poultry. Cassava peels represent waste product from cassava industry with amount 1,998 million ton in the year 2006 in Indonesia (10 percentage of corm of yielded cassava). The weakness of cassava peels are low crude protein content, less palatable for ruminant and have voluminous characteristic. One of the effort to increase usefulness of cassava peels is by using cassava peels as fibre source in pellet complete ration for poultry. The aim of this research was to know best level from utilization of cassava peels as physic quality in poultry complete ration. This study used Completely Randomized Design that consistsof three treatments and three replications. The treatments were: 1). Control feeds + 0% cassava peels (R1), 2). Control feeds + 30% dry matter cassava peels (R2), 3). Control feeds + 30% boiling matter cassava peels (R3). Data was analysed with ANOVA and continued with Duncan Test. The result indicated that effect of water content pellet ration with moisture tool is higher than using infrared tool. Pellet rations with dry matter and boiling matter control treatment before saving have physic qualities that still meet the quality standar of poultry ration. Eventhough, on treatment after saving, the physic qualities decrease and relatively less meet the quality standar of poultry rationKey word: waste, cassava peels, poultry ration, pellet complete.

The aim of this paper is to evaluate the forage utilization of winter catch crop in relation to yield and mixture composition. In 2006–2009, the plot experiment with winter pea in mixtures with rye and triticale was conducted under completely randomized design with four replicates. The productivity of mixture was above 10 t.ha−1 whilst the significantly lowest value was observed for pea monoculture. The rye represented the most productive component in mixture but it achieved lower forage quality in comparison with triticale. The ratio of pea varied from 7 to 38 % in dependence on year and companion cereal. The triticale mixture provided higher ratio in comparison with rye and significant differences between rye varieties were also detected. The quality of mixture was depended mainly on ratio of crops in the mixture. The ratio of pea significantly increased crude protein content in mixture according to linear regression where crude protein = 9.56 + 0.11* weight percentage pea ratio (P < 0.000, R2 = 0.89). Quality of pea forage was also influenced by companion crop where pea in mixture with rye achieved significantly lower quality. The amount of weeds was highest in the pea monoculture and lowest in mixture with rye.

Abstract. The purpose of this study was to determine the increase in protein content and decrease in crude fiber in complete feed silage based on rice straw and lamtoro leaves as ruminant feed. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatment levels and 3 replications namely J0 = 100% rice straw (control), J1 = 60% rice straw and lamtoro leaves 40% J2 = 70% rice straw and lamtoro leaves 30% J3 = 80% rice straw and lamtoro leaves 20%. The results showed that the combination of rice straw and lamtoro leaves had a very significant effect on the value of crude protein and crude fiber in complete feed silage. The highest average to the lowest protein content was J1 (11.45), J2 is equal to (9.50), J3 is equal to (8.44), and J0 is equal to (6.60). The average value of the highest crude fiber content to the lowest is (35.19), J3 is equal to (33.82), J2 is equal to (32.35), and J1is equal to (30.55). From the results of the study it is known that the best treatment that can be recommended is J1 treatment with a combination of 60% rice straw and lamtoro leaves 40%. Keywords: coarse protein, coarse fiber, complete feed silage, lamtoro leaves and rice straw.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the action of the phytase enzyme in diets formulated with variations in the crude protein content on performance and egg quality of commercial layers. A total of 336 commercial layers were housed at eight birds per cage in a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement with seven replicates. Treatments consisted of four crude-protein levels (17, 15, and 13%) and two enzyme levels (0 and 500 FTU kg-1 diet), distributed in a completely randomized design. Feed intake, egg production, feed conversion per dozen eggs and per kilogram, egg weight and mass, specific gravity, eggshell thickness, and Haugh unit were measured over five 28-day periods. The performance of commercial layers fed the diet containing 13% crude protein worsened, irrespective of phytase addition. However, at 15% crude protein, phytase inclusion did not affect feed conversion or egg weight. Inclusion of phytase leads to equal egg-quality and performance results at the dietary crude protein levels of 17 and 15%. The crude protein content of 13%, with or without phytase, is not recommended for the diet of brown-egg layers.

The nutritious content fermentation of palm oil sludge by P. chrysosporiumABSTRACT. This research is aimed at observing the nutritious content of palm oil sludge fermentation by P. chrysosporium. The experimental design used completely randomized design in factorial (3 x 3). The first factor is the inoculum dosage, namely : (D1). 3 %, (D2). 6 % and (D3). 9 % of substrate weight. The second factor is the length of fermentation, namely : (L1). 4 days, (L2). 8 days and (L3). 12 days. Every treatment is repeated for three time. The data found is scrutinized by mode print and it is followed by distance test of multiple Duncan (Steel and Torrie, 1989). The variables observed in research are dry materials, crude fiber, crude protein, cellulose and lignin. The research on the influence of inoculum dosage and the length of fermentation on dry materials content and crude protein shows insignificant interaction (P0.05). On the other hand, crude fiber, cellulose and lignin show significant interaction (P0.01). The inoculum dosage of 6 % and the fermentation length of 8 days is the best combination treatment and it can reduce the crude fiber amounting to 40.86 %, an increase of crude protein amounting to 30.75 % and a decrease of cellulose and lignin amounting to 39.78 % and 36.40 % respectively.

The nutrient and anti-nutrient content of raw, boiled, and boiled with potassium sesquioxide(akanwu) Mucuna sloanei seed meal(MSSM) were investigated. A total of 120 day old broiler chickens were used. There were 4 treatments each replicated into 3 with 10 birds per replicate in a completely randomized design (CRD). Four treatment diets were formulated. Diet 1 served as control containing raw Mucunal, while diets 2, 3, and 4 had boiled Mucuna, Mucuna boiled with ankanwu and boiled Mucuna mix with enzyme, respectively added to them at 5% level of inclusion. The birds were allowed 7 days to get stabilized before being randomly assigned to the experimental diets that lasted for 49 days. The crude protein content of the raw was significantly higher (P<0.05) than that of the boiled and boiled with potash. Processing reduced the energy content of raw Mucuna seed from 4.73 Kcal/g (raw) to 3.90 cal/g(boiled) and 3.81Kcal/g (boiled with akanwu, BWA). Boiled MSSM had a significantly (P< 0.05) higher content of Na, K, Ca, P and Mg, than that of BWA. The calcium (1.87) content of the boiled was significantly (P<0.05) higher than that of the raw (1.665). There were significant (P<0.05) increases in Fe, Cu, Zn and Mnin the processed over the raw.BWA resulted in a significantly (P<0.05) higher decrease in anti-nutritional content of the seed. B Mucuna sloanei Mucuna akanwu. Mucuna sloanei, sesquioxid soiling method is selected as the best method of detoxification for seeds since it was able to make 84.18% reduction of L-DOPA which is the major anti-nutrient in and 98.40% reduction of trypsin inhibitor a wide spread anti-nutrient among legumes. In addition it is amethod of detoxification that can be well adapted to by the local farmers as against that of boiling with potash which involves the preparing of potash solution and additional cost
