There was made an assessment of the physical development of 319 rural schoolchildren who are brought up in families and in boarding schools. Anthropometric data of boys and girls aged 6-17 of years were analyzed. Normal growth rates for 91.3-94.3% of rural schoolchildren were established; Tall children were more often identified in families, and undersized one were revealed among those living in boarding schools (up to 8.9%). Normal values of body mass index were determined in 69.7-88% of schoolchildren; Overweight - in 10-26,9%, and body mass deficit - in 1,9-3,4% of children. In children living in families, high values of body mass index were detected by the order more often than low values (21.9-26.9% and 1.9-3.4%). In boarding students, the body mass index was the same in all age periods. Normal ratios of waist circumference to hip circumference were determined in 66.7-90% of schoolchildren. In this case, the predominant deposition of fat on the hips was found only in boys (25.7-33.3%); Abdominal fat deposits were found in 2.9% of boys living in families and in 10-17.6% of girls living in families and boarding schools. The authors believe that irrespective of the living conditions (family or boarding school), rural schoolchildren develop changes in the distribution of fat, possibly due to the peculiarities of the pubertal period.

Obesity occurs due to excessive fat deposits in the body, one of which is a poor diet. The relationship between overweight and chronic kidney disease (CKD) is mediated through several mechanisms of adiponectin, leptin, and resistin, the development of inflammation, oxidative stress, abnormal lipid metabolism, and activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between body mass index and estimated glomerular filtration rate in overweight students at the Health Analyst Department of Pontianak Health Polytechnic. The research design used was cross-sectional. This research was conducted on May 14-18, 2018. The population is a student health analyst. With the criteria for students from the 2015 and 2016 batches who are still active, BMI 23-29.9 Kg/m² and aged 18 to 22 years, totaling 37 respondents. The sampling technique used is total sampling. Performed include measurements of BMI, serum creatinine Jaffe method, fixed time and ELFG Cokroft-Gault formula. The results obtained using the Kendall's tau test showed that the p value (0.906) was greater than (0.05) meaning that there was no relationship between body mass index and estimated glomerular filtration rate in overweight students at the Health Analyst Department of Pontianak Health Polytechnic.

Introduction. Osteoarthritis is considered a complex biopsychosocial condition, with consequences for the patient, the family, society and public health. Age is considered the main risk factor in the occurrence of osteoarthritis. Studies show that 2 out of 3 obese individuals associate knee osteoarthritis whereas the incidence of the latter increases at the same time with increasing body mass index. Obesity contributes to the initiation of the process of osteoarthritis by the mechanical overload of the joint, causing cartilage damage with increasing horizontal cracks and the increased incidence of the osteophites in the knee. Purpose. We conducted a study in patients with knee osteoarthritis and body mass index with normal and high values, evaluating pain, functional capacity and maximum travel distance by applying electrotherapy and kinesiotherapy. Material and method. We studied a number of 68 patients diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis, who received as therapy electrotherapy and physiotherapy. The VAS scale, the WOMAC scale, the joint balance and the Lequesne scale were used to evaluate patients. The objectives of the study were: pain reduction, improved postural control and coordination, control of the gravity center, correction of alignment at the lower limbs, re-education of gait, obtaining a body mass index as close to normal. Results and discussions. The total group of patients was homogeneous according to age and gender. The evaluation of patients based on scales recorded superior values in the study group, with statistically significant results, worth p <0.05, which means that the hypothesis was validated. Conclusions. The use of the recovery treatment was individualized and took into account the condition of the affection, the body mass index, the ability of patients' mobility and algic symptoms.

Background. At present in Ukraine negative tendencies in terms of the physical development of the younger generation population have been revealed with the overweight issue getting increasingly urgent that is a predictor of obesity development in adulthood, an increase in levels of chronic somatic prevalence and mortality. The purpose of the research is to assess the level of the physical development of schoolchildren and to determine the most informative approach to determining risk groups in terms of nutritional status impairment. Materials and methods. We have conducted a cross-sectional examination of 277 schoolchildren aged 10–14 years (125 boys and 152 girls) based on the corresponding anthropometric parameters, Quetelet weight-to-height index, Vervek-Vorontsov index, the results of caliperometry and bio-impedancemetry with their further assessment according to the international and national standards. The data are statistically processed in the licensed package IBM SPSS Statistics v. 22, using the t-test and generalized linear models. Results. The analysis of sex and age peculiarities of the physical development has demonstrated a probable decrease in body mass index at the age of 11 and its increase at the age of 12 in both sex groups, the risk of obesity development in boys of 10 and 12 years, and harmonious development in girls observed. Based on the Vervek-Vorontsov index, elongation growth processes are noticed in eleven-year-old girls, and growth retardation processes are observed in ten-year-old schoolchildren of both sexes. A highly disharmonious physical development by the national regression scales is found at the age of 12, and harmonious development is revealed in ten-year-old boys and thirteen-year-old girls. The amount of adipose tissue content does not differ significantly across different age groups, and muscle content is considerably higher in boys of 14. Such data, in comparison with the body mass index, allow us to make an assumption that higher Quetelet indices are determined due to the developed muscle system and are not the proof of obesity development in boys. It is also confirmed by the results of caliperometry. According to the results of the anthropocentric research, two generalized integrative linear models have been developed to determine adipose and muscle tissue content. The comparison of the models obtained with the results of bio-impedancemetry has shown a high precision of the models developed, which has been proved by the results of the t-test. Conclusions. The study has proved the high informative value of the methods which have been used to assess the physical development and the relevance of their application as a component of the algorithm of the comprehensive assessment of schoolchildren’s physical development, which is potential for further monitoring and analyzing morphofunctional changes.

ABSTRACT…Objective: To evaluate association of hypertension with central obesity in low to middle socioeconomic population. Study design: Descriptive study. Setting: OPD, Filter Clinic. Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences. Islamabad. Period: June to September 2008. Methods: This study was carried out on 85 patients with history of hypertension. Out of total patients, 27 were males and 58 were females. The ages of the all patients were between 20 to 70 years. Parameters recorded included history, blood pressure, weight, height, waist circumference and hip circumference. The secondary causes were ruled out on the basis of history and physical examination. Data and results were analyzed in SPSS. Results: Out of 85 patients, 74 including 21 males and 53 females had increased Waist Hip Ratio (WHR), 66 including 14 males and 61 females had increased Waist Circumference (WC), while the Body Mass Index (BMI) of 33 including 6 males & 27 females were found obese. It also showed that the females are more prone to obesity. The age group between 41-60 years was most effected. The results indicates that waist hip ratio is the most common indicator of obesity in patients with essential hypertension as compare to waist circumference and body mass index. Conclusions: Hypertension is associated with central obesity in low to middle socioeconomic status.

Background: the changes in metabolism in the body can trigger the increase of uric acid levels which can lead to a precursor of hyperuricemia and gout disease that can result extreme pain in the joint. Based on the study, it has known that uric acid levels can be caused by obesity, protein intake, lifestyle, and others. The anthropometric method which usually used to measured obesity are body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC). Currently, the most commonly used ratio in this way is the Body Mass Index (BMI). Result: in a Canadian study among 151 adults, it was reported that there was a higher correlation between the area of abdominal visceral fat and WC compared with the correlation with the waist-hip circumference ratio. WC is also more strongly associated with total body fat, measured by densitometry, than by waist-to-hip circumference ratio. High levels of leptin in obese people can cause uric acid disruption through urine, so that uric acid levels in the blood of obese people become high. BMI also shows a positive relationship with leptin concentration, which is a trigger factor to increased uric acid levels. American adults also shown that uricemia related to their BMI value. Conclusion: BMI is one of the indicators of obesity, while obesity often thought to influence the incidence of gout by increasing uric acid levels in the blood. WC also closely related potentially to atherogenic metabolic disorders associated with abdominal obesity that to waist-to-hip circumference ratios.
