The growing popularity and consideration of social networking sites having the ability to enhance interaction, academic participation and performance among lecturers and students respectively underscored an investigation into the influence of social media and environmental factors on academic performance of student nurses in Southwest Nigeria. The study is a survey design that adopted correlational research type. The population comprised all Student Nurses in all the Nursing Schools in Southwest Nigeria. Six schools purposively selected and a sample of 300 students randomly selected participated in the study. Two instruments: Social Media and Environmental Factor Questionnaire (SMEFQ) r=0.85 and Student Nurses Achievement Test (SNAT), r=0.72 was used to collect data. Three research questions guided the study and data collected was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Result revealed that the three predictor variables correlated with each other in predicting students’ academic achievement. It also showed that Facebook ß = (-.162), t(-1.436) = .155, p>.005 contributed most among the predictor variables while the two predictors (social media and environmental factors) could not predict students academic performance in Nursing (F(2,77) =1.214, P= 0.303). It is recommended that students be encouraged to use social media adequately for academic purposes while government improve school physical structures and provide conducive learning environment for academic excellence.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the associations between total quality management (TQM) core elements, knowledge management (KM) processes, and educational organization outcome with respect to academic performance (AP). Design/methodology/approach The study is based on a cross-sectional survey design. The survey was conducted on 87 colleges in Iraqi higher-education institutions (HEIs). Four main hypotheses were developed and tested statistically by applying multivariate data analyses. Findings The results provided evidence that both TQM core elements and KM processes should be implemented holistically. TQM core elements have a positive and significant impact on both KM processes and AP. Moreover, KM processes partially mediate the association between TQM core elements and AP. Originality/value Empirical research on the association between TQM, KM, and performance is very limited. This study provides insights and further understanding of the effect of TQM core elements on KM processes and AP, and therefore, allows decision makers to get in-depth knowledge about these associations and the mediating effect of KM in HEIs context.

: With the vast development of internet technology 2.0, millions of people are sharing their opinions on different social networking sites. To obtain the necessary information from the huge volume of user-generated data, the attention on sentiment analysis among the research community is growing. Growth and prominence of sentiment analysis is synchronized with an increase in social media and networking sites. Users generally use natural language for speaking, writing, and expressing their views based on various sentiment orientations, ratings, and the features of different products, topics, and issues. This helps to produce ambiguity at the end of the customer's decision based on criticism to form an opinion based on such comments. To overcome the challenges of user-generated content such as noisy, irrelevant information and fake reviews, there is a significant demand for an effective methodology that emphasizes the need for sentiment analysis. This study presents an exhaustive survey of the existing methodologies and highlights the challenges and performance factors of various approaches of sentiment analysis including text preprocessing, opinion spam detection, and aspect level sentiment analysis. Background: User-generated content is growing all over the globe and people more eagerly express their views on social media towards various aspects. The opinionated text is difficult to interpret and arrive at a conclusion based on the feedback gathered from reviews on various sites. Hence, the significance of sentiment analysis is growing to analyze the usergenerated data. Objective: The paper presents an exhaustive review that provides an overview of the pros and cons of the existing techniques and highlights the current techniques in sentiment analysis namely text pre-processing, opinion spam detection, and aspect level sentiment analysis based on machine learning and deep learning. This will be useful to researchers who focus on the challenges very specifically and identify the most common challenges to work forward for a new solution.

The use of social media has increased in schools and universities due to the new norms of teaching and learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, this educational paradigm shift requires further surveys to explore the potentials and restrictions, particularly in the context of Afghanistan. Therefore, a quantitative method and descriptive survey design are adopted to examine the effect of using social media (Facebook, WhatsApp, and Telegram) on the academic performance (Mean Scores of GPA) of Afghanistan faculty members who are pursuing their postgraduate studies at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). The participants are (N=103 male and female) who are randomly selected. The data is collected through a structured survey google form. Frequency and percentage statistical analysis, Independent-Samples T-test, and Independent-Measures ANOVA are performed as data analysis techniques. The results show a large number of WhatsApp users in terms of frequency and percentage among faculty members of Afghanistan who are using social media. The findings also examine that there is no significant difference between the mean scores of GPA in the academic performance of faculty members using different types of social media. In conclusion, the study contributes to establishing an in-depth understanding of the effect of using social media on the academic performance among faculty members based on the new policies of e-learning implementation by the Ministry of Higher Education during the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to National Center for Education Statistics (2018), in 2016-17, the average tuition fees for first-time, full-time undergraduates is $8,800 at 4-year public institutions, $16,300 at private for-profit institutions, or $33,500 at private nonprofit ones. The expense is either paid by students and their families or by private and governmental institutions. Either way, it is of everyone’s interest to ensure that the money spent is due, in comparison with the outcomes (high salary, skilled workers, etc.). Hence, it is crucial and beneficial to investigate what factors influence academic performance variable, measured in grade-point average (GPA). This paper investigated the relationship between the number of friends full-time college students have and their academic performance, retention, and persistence since the rate of retention and persistence and academic excellence are intercorrelate and often coexist. The difference in degrees of impact between high school friends and new college friends on undergraduates was examined. The benefits of social support arose from friendship on undergraduates’ welfare, academic retention and performance were explored. Outside factors that could potentially affect the relationship between the number of friends and GPA, such as gender, living arrangement, satisfaction with college environment and overall life were also assessed. It was established that the more friends an undergraduate student has, the more social support they perceive, the happier and more satisfied with college life they are, and the higher GPA they obtain. However, when the size of undergraduate’s network becomes too big, the available time for intimate friends and for studying is compensated, thinning the positive effect of social support and inflicting undergraduates’ potential capability and performance. Since the conclusion was generated from previous researches and reports, it would be beneficial to have surveys or experiments conducted to either disprove or further support the conclusion.

There is an observed popularity in the use of social networking sites. The popularity of social networking sites appears to occupy a multi-layered utility depending on the needs of the end user. Calls exist within the literature for studies that explore understanding of determinants that influence attitudes towards advertising on social networks. The importance of this is that such factors influencing attitudes towards advertising on social networks can be useful pre-cursors to the formation of actual intentions. The objective of this study was to determine the role of habit, perceived ease of use and social media capital affinity on attitudes towards social network advertising amongst students at rural campus. A sample of 289 registered students were used as a sample for this study utilising a positivist research philosophy and a survey design approach. The findings of the research saliently show a positive relationship to exist a) perceived ease of use and habit; b) social capital affinity and attitudes towards social networking advertising. Based on the findings of the research some implications are made concerning possible responses from the youth market and attitudes towards social media advertising.
