Dengue hemorrhagic fever is a public health problem in Indonesia that the number of DHF cases has been increased. Morbidity number of DHF per 100,000 population at 2011 was 26.67 became 34.3 in 2012. The control of DHF has been attempted, but a lot of synthetic insecticide used has been negatively affected to environment. So, it need the insecticide alternative. The aim of study was to identify the effect of solvent sugar apple (Annona squamosa L.) seeds to the death of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes by electric liquid method. Type of this research was experimental with cross sectional study design as well as the post test only control group design. The study was conducted from February to July 2013 in the Laboratory of Entomology of the Provincial Health Office of East Java. The population of this research was the Aedes aegypti with 560 sample of mosquitoes were divided into five treatments and four repetitions for each treatment. The collection of quantitative data drawn from primary data through observation by calculating the death of Aedes aegypti of each the sugar apple seeds concentration of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% for 24 hours. The results showed that the concentration of 50% solvent of sugar apple seeds provide the greatest effect in causing the death of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes as many as 36 died after exposure. It can be concluded that there are effected by giving solvent of sugar apple (Annona squamosa L.) seeds to the death of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes by electric liquid method.

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a disease caused by dengue virus and transmitted by mosquito Aedes. Surabaya is one of the districts in East Java Province which includes dengue endemic areas, particularly in Sub district Gunung Anyar. The purpose of this study was analyze relationship between temperature, density residential, knowledge and attitude about the incidence and the intervention of dengue with the density of larvae Aedes aegypti in Sub district Gunung Anyar, Surabaya. This study was an observational study with cross sectional study design that used primary data like observation, interview 100 respondents with cluster random sampling. The dependent variable was density of larvae Aedes aegypti in Sub district Gunung Anyar. The independent variable was temperature, density residential, knowledge and attitude about the incidence and the intervention of dengue. The results showed that variables related with the density of larvae Aedes aegypti in Sub district Gunung Anyar was temperature (p = 0.000), density residential (p = 0.000), knowledge (p = 0.022) and attitude (p = 0.000). There was relationship between temperature, density residential, knowledge and attitude about the incidence and the intervention of dengue with density of larvae in Sub district Gunung Anyar, Surabaya. Health Center and Health Department should do public counseling routinely to increase public knowledge about the incidence and prevention of dengue.

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is one of the diseases caused by Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes. DHF is still a public health problem, including in Indonesia, due to the high mortality rate caused by this mosquito. The risk caused by the bite of the Aedes sp mosquito is quite dangerous, including acute fever, bleeding, shock, and even death, so that efforts are needed to control it. One of the natural ingredients that can use to eradicate Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes without causing negative impacts on the environment is the Cananga flower and Zyzigium Leaves. This study purposes of determining the optimum concentration of Cananga Flowers and Zyzigium Leaves Ethanol extract of which was having biolarvaside effect to Aedes Aegypti larvae. The method used a simple experiment with Posttest Only With Control Group Design. The data result of the research analyzed with Logit and Wilcoxon test. Achievement of those tests was LC50 Zyzigium leaf extract on contact for 24 hours was 0.609-0.935, and LC99 was between 1.064-1.973 while Cananga flower extract obtained LC50 of 0.228-0.261 and the LC99 was 0.446 to 0.558. Wilcoxon test for compared bioalarvaside effect results between Cananga Flower and Zyzigium Leaf received a significance value less than α (0.001<0.05), so it can ascertain that the Cananga Flower extract was stronger biolarvaside than Zyzigium Leaf extract.

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is still a become public health problem in the world. In 2017, there were  68,407 cases with 493 deaths DHF cases in Indonesia . The incidence rate of DHF in 2017 was 26,10/100,000 population. DHF was caused by dengue virus which was transmitted through the bites of Aedes aegypti. Several types of plants such as stems, leaves, and flowers can be used as natural ingredients for repelling Ae. aegypti, Star anise (Illicium verum) has a chemical compound that can be used as a mosquito repellent. The purpose of this study was to know the potential of star anise essential oil as repellents of Ae. aegypti. This study was an experimental study with post test only with control group design. The experiment to test  the repellency of star anise essential oil was carried out using concentrations of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50%  on 3-5 days old female Ae. aegypti. The result of this study showed that repellency index of star anise essential oil at concentration 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% during 6 hours were 58.1%; 63.51%; 59.95%; 49.45% and 65.32%. Star anise essential oil at concentration 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50% can provide protection against the bites of Ae. aegypti for 1 until 2 hours.

Abstract Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an infection caused by the dengue virus, which is still a public health problem in Indonesia. Chemical insecticides as larvicides used to control Aedes aegypti have created resistant populations. Thus, higher doses are needed, which, of course, have toxic effects on animals, humans, and the environment.To analyze the effectiveness of papaya leaf extract (Carica papaya) against the mortality of the third instar Aedesaegypti mosquito larvae. This study is a true experimental research design with a posttest-only control group design. In this study, the groups in this study were the larvae of the Aedes aegypti mosquito instar III/IV, papaya leaf ethanol extract, abate as a positive control group, and aquadest as a negative control.The results of the mean number of larvae deaths in each treatment group was zero (0) larvae in negative control group, positive control group (25 larvae), 5% concentration (9.5 larvae), 10% concentration (11.75 larvae), 15% concentration (12.75 larvae), a concentration of 20% (14.75 larvae), and a concentration of 25% (19.5 larvae). The results of Kruskal Wallis analysis showed that papaya leaf extract was effective as a larvicide for Aedesaegypti (p=0.001). In the probit analysis, it was found that the LC50 of the extract against Aedes aegypti was 23%, while the LC99 was 55%.Papaya leaf extract is effective as a vegetable larvicide for 3rd/IV instar Aedesaegypti larvae

Introduction: Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is an important public health problem in Indonesia because its morbidity and mortality are quite high. Prevention by vector control methods with chemical insecticides adversely affects the environment. Research on granular bioinsectide mixture of betel leaf extract and sugar apple seeds against Aedes aegypti is expected to be used to break the chain of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes starting  from the juvenile stage  (eggs) as an effort to control the vector population naturally. Objective: This study aims to analyze the effect of granule bioinsecticide mixture of sugar apple seed extract and betel leaf on changes in the morphology of Aedes aegypti eggs. Methods: This study is a true-experimental study with a Post test Only Control Group Design design. The treatment group will be given a granular bioinsecticide, a mixture of sugar apple seed extract and betel leaf, positive control will be given abate while negative control will be given aquades. Each group uses 25 eggs with 3 repetitions. On day 3, all eggs will be observed using a stereo microscope to determine morphological changes. The data obtained will be analyzed using ordinal regression test. Results: the ordinal regression test got the value of ρ in the Wald test between (0.012 - 0.955)> α = 0.01. Conclusion: there is no effect of mixed granules of betel leaf and sugar apple seeds on the mortality of Aedes aegypti eggs. Further research is needed on new formulations using other natural ingredients to increase the effect of ovicides on Aedes aegypti.

<p>Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) or Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a disease caused by a virus which is very dangerous because it can cause the patient to die within a few days. Bandar Lampung city itself is a dengue endemic area. According to data from the Lampung Provincial Health Office, in 2015, from 15 there were 2,996 deaths in 31 people. The study aimed to knowing the effectiveness of bintaro seed extract (Cerbera manghas) as larvacide in III instars Aedes aegypti larvacides experimental research with post test only control group design. The sampling method was purposive sampling. Independent variables were bintaro seed extract (dose and time), the dependent variable was Aedes aegypti larvAedes The results showed that from 5 types of doses with 5 repetitions, the death result of Aedes aegypti larvae with a dose of 0% had no mortality, a dose of 0.1% with an average of 12.55, a dose of 0.5% with an average of 15.15 , 1% dose with an average of 18.20, a dose of 1.5% with an average of 22.15, and a dose of 2% with an average of 25. At the time of contact, the death result of the larvae was found with an average 6-hour contact time. an average of 8.70, 12 hours with an average of 14.13, 24 hours with an average of 18.37 and 48 hours with an average of 20.83. According to the results of statistical tests, the most effective effect of bintaro seed extract dosage is at a dose of 1.5% and contact time of 6 hours.<strong></strong></p>

CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE: Heparanase-1 degrades heparan sulfate and has been correlated with tumor progression. Although the isoform heparanase-2 has no catalytic activity, it seems to be important for modulating heparanase-1 activity. Cathepsin B is a proteinase involved in tumor metastasis. The aim of this study was to analyze heparanase isoform expression and cathepsin B activity in plasma samples from patients with gastrointestinal carcinomas, compared with healthy individuals (control group). DESIGN AND SETTING: This was an analytical cross-sectional study. Peripheral blood samples were collected at a Brazilian public hospital, from 21 patients with histopathological diagnoses of gastrointestinal carcinomas and from 43 healthy individuals. The analyses were performed in two Brazilian medical schools. METHODS: Heparanase isoforms were identified and quantified in plasma samples by means of Western blot. The enzymatic activities of heparanase-1 and cathepsin B were also measured. RESULTS: The results demonstrated that the expression of both heparanase isoforms was significantly greater in plasma samples from gastrointestinal carcinoma patients, compared with the control group. Logistic regression analysis showed that increased heparanase-1 and heparanase-2 expression was exclusively dependent on the tumor. There was a significant increase in heparanase-1 and cathepsin B activity in the patients' plasma. CONCLUSION: Overexpression of heparanase-1 and heparanase-2, along with increased heparanase-1 and cathepsin B activity in plasma, is associated with the diagnosis of gastrointestinal carcinoma. These findings provide support for using non-invasive assays (plasma samples) as an auxiliary method for diagnosing gastrointestinal tumors.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a global public health problem. Families need to meet healthcare needs during the treatment of TB sufferers. This study aims to identify healthcare needs of families caring for patients with the disease. The cross-sectional study involved 83 families caring for TB patients. The research was conducted at a Primary Healthcare Center in an urban area in West Java. The results revealed that 60.2% of caregivers were 18–40 years old, 60.2% were female, 51.8% were senior high school educated, 43.4% were housewives, 86.7% had an income under the regional minimum wage, and 55.4% had cared for the TB patients for 3–6 months. The families had healthcare needs for emotional support (mean 33.72, SD 4.16); information support (mean 33.28, SD 4.09); instrumental support (mean 32.4, SD 3.73); and appraisal support (mean 28.01, SD 5.93). The greatest support need was how to encourage clients to take treatment completely (Score: 140); TB treatment information (Score: 138); financial support for chest x-ray costs (Score: 114); and how to assess patient behavior in maintaining health (score: 133). Based on the study result, the families need to improve their ability to give appraisal support during the patient's treatment. The identification of families’ healthcare needs in caring for patients with pulmonary TB can provide primary data for developing innovative programs integrated with DOTS programs in healthcare services to improve family support.Abstrak Kebutuhan Perawatan Kesehatan Keluarga yang Merawat Pasien Tuberkulosis. Tuberkulosis (TB) merupakan masalah kesehatan masyarakat global. Keluarga harus memenuhi kebutuhan perawatan kesehatan selama pengobatan pada pasien TB. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kebutuhan perawatan kesehatan pada keluarga yang merawat pasien TB. Penelitian cross-sectional ini melibatkan responden sebanyak 83 keluarga yang merawat pasien TB. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di sebuah Puskesmas di Kota Depok, Jawa Barat. Penelitian ini melaporkan sebanyak 60,2% berusia 18–40 tahun, 60,2% perempuan, 51,8% lulus sekolah menengah atas, 43,4% ibu rumah tangga, 86,7% pendapatan di bawah upah minimum regional, 55,4% merawat pasien TB selama 3–6 bulan. Keluarga memiliki kebutuhan perawatan kesehatan untuk dukungan emosional (rerata 33,72, SD 4,16), dukungan informasi (rerata 33,28, SD 4,09), dukungan instrumental (rerata 32,4, SD3,73), dukungan penghargaan (rerata 28,01, SD 5,93). Kebutuhan tertinggi yaitu bagaimana mendorong pasien melakukan pengobatan secara tuntas (140), informasi pengobatan TB (138), dukungan keuangan untuk biaya pemeriksaan rontgen (114), dan bagaimana mengkaji perilaku pasien dalam mempertahankan kesehatan (133). Keluarga membutuhkan peningkatan kapasitas dalam memberikan dukungan penghargaan selama pengobatan pasien. Kebutuhan akan perawatan kesehatan pada keluarga yang merawat pasien TB dapat dijadikan data dasar dalam mengembangkan program inovatif terintegrasi dengan program DOTS di fasilitas layanan kesehatan dalam meningkatkan dukungan pada pasien TB.  Kata kunci: keperawatan keluarga, sistem dukungan, Tuberkulosis paru

Vector-borne diseases are still a health problem in some tropical countries. One vector-borne disease is Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF). DHF never decreases and even tends to continue to increase, and many cause deaths in children, 90% of them attack children under 15 years. DHF cases in 2018 amounted to 65,602 cases, with 467 deaths (CFR = 0.71%). The behavior of holding water in various places such as tubs and tendons indirectly creates a breeding place for Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. The use of chemicals as insecticides can cause the death of non-target animals, environmental pollution, and the occurrence of vector resistance to insecticides. Therefore it is necessary to do other methods including the use of vegetable insecticides. Sugar apple leaves can be used to kill Aedes aegypti larvae. Sugar apple leaves will obtain throughout the year. The purpose of this study is to know the ability of young and old sugar apple leaves to kill Aedes aegypti larvae. This type of research is a posttest only control group design. The study sample was part of the Aedes aegypti larvae on the final instar III. The experiment to kill Aedes aegypti larvae use two types of sugar apple leaf extract, namely young and old sugar apple leaves with nine treatments four replications. Each treatment consisted of 25 larvae. The research results show There was no significant difference in the number of dead larvae using either extracts from young sugar apple leaves or old sugar apple leaves. LC90 of sugar apple leaf extract was between 0.05632 to 0.08324% and the effective residual age at LC90 (0.06568%) with the death of Aedes aegypti larvae was 92% over 24 hours (1 day).

Background: Diarrhea among under-five children remains a major public health problem in developing countries, such as Myanmar. Its complications contribute to the worse health outcomes as well as increase the child mortality in Myanmar. Hlaing Thar Yar was recognized as a township with the highest incidence of diarrhea in Yangon region. Aims: This study aimed to identify the association of mother’s knowledge on diarrhea with the diarrheal disease among under-five children in Hlaing Thar Yar Township, Yangon, Myanmar. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study by collecting primary data in the Hlaing Thar Yar Township of Yangon, Myanmar from November to December 2016. About 277 records of mothers and their under-five children have been collected through multistage random sampling. A dependent variable in this study was the occurrence of diarrhea among under-five children whilst independent variables consisted of socio-demographic characteristics of parents and five domains of mother’s knowledge on diarrhea. Data were analyzed by using univariate, bivariate and multivariate analysis. Results: This study found that a half (53.43%) of under-five children suffered diarrhea within two weeks prior to the survey. Based on multivariate analysis by controlling all socio-demographic factors, two out of five domains of mother’s knowledge showed significant association. An increased one score of mother’s knowledge on causes and prevention of diarrhea contributed to decrease the likelihood of diarrheal disease by 37% (OR=0.63; 95%CI=0.44-0.90) and 27% (OR=0.73; 95%CI=0.54-0.99), respectively. Conclusions: This study confirmed that the knowledge of mothers on causes and prevention of diarrhea appears to have important effects on the occurrence of diarrhea among the under-five children. Therefore, health promotion program with an emphasis on providing information related to diarrhea causes and prevention is worth to enhance mother’s knowledge and their ability to prevent diarrhea among under-five children in Hlaing Thar Yar Township, Yangon.
