The rapid development of lean production in Russian universities needs new methodological approaches to assess the ongoing processes. The research objective was to develop a new methodological approach to the progress assessment of lean production at universities. The approach is based on the effect of principles, tools, and scope of lean production on its qualitative and quantitative indicators, e.g. the number of methods, projects implemented, work standards, etc. This approach makes it possible to determine the development level of lean production systems on the basis of quantitative indicators, as well as to compare different universities with each other. The experiment featured two universities of the Association of Lean Universities, namely Maikop State Technological University and Kuban State Medical University. In terms of the main indicators, both universities appeared to be quite similar: they had almost the same number of implemented projects, mapped flows, and visualizations, as well as the level of time savings and stakeholder satisfaction. This result can be explained by the general policy of implementing lean production, as well as by a shared scientific and methodological basis. Kuban State Medical University had a slightly greater coverage of training in the field of lean production, standardization, etc. Maikop State Technological University proved to be more active in studying the needs of stakeholders and student involvement. Both universities paid insufficient attention to the cost assessment of the results of lean production. They also had poor management indicators for sustainability processes. The developed methodology may be of interest for university management, since it helps to substantiate decisions made on the basis of a comparative analysis. It can also serve as a basis for a new ranking of lean universities.

The purpose of the research. The purpose of the article is to elaborate scientific and methodological approaches to providing economic security of an enterprise as a key component of its management. Methodology. The study applies general scientific theoretical methods – generalization, explanation, grouping – to analyzing economists’ and practitioners’ ideas about the object of the research and formulating conclusions of content analysis of primary sources, analysis and synthesis – to substantiating a new scientific approach to ensuring economic security of an enterprise. Results. Specific features of economic security of an enterprise as an object of management are taken into account as those revealing themselves in nonlinearity of links between its current level and the implemented set of managerial actions. To assess the results of ensuring economic security, its dynamic parameters have been substantiated including those of operational excellence as an internal prerequisite of its provision and market sustainability as an external form of manifesting internal systemic characteristics of a business. A methodological approach to assessing results of ensuring economic security of an enterprise is suggested on the basis on assessing the degree of correspondence of the above parameters (provision planes) to enterprises’ internal standards, industry averages and the best current business practices. Implementation of the suggested methodological approach to assessing the results of ensuring economic security in retrospective enables empirical confirmation of the fact that internal operating prerequisites and market positions of mining and metallurgical enterprises are determined by used/unused opportunities of the business environment for a certain period of time. Styles of ensuring the economic security of the enterprises under study are identified. It is revealed that the regressive style, which manifests itself in overestimation of internal standards with a dangerous degree of compliance with the best business practices is prevailing. It has been substantiated that its use puts the economic security level in a critically dangerous dependency on the market situation and, taking into account current trends in the economic and political environment, makes it possible to predict a decline in the economic security level of the enterprises under study in the near future: the global economic decline, increased protectionism on the markets, increased tax burden, increased environmental tax rates, etc. Practical importance. A scientific approach to ensuring economic security of an enterprise has been substantiated which integrates the strategic and operational levels of management and ensures minimization of the degree of inconsistency of the internal system characteristics of the business with stakeholders’ e requirements and trends in the external environment based on the use of opportunities for increasing value added streams in the context of permanent dynamic changes in the functioning of the enterprise. Further research is devoted to development of methodological approaches to taking into account the third plane of ensuring economic security – “stakeholder satisfaction”.

Relevance and statement of a problem. Now processes of socialization of younger generation undergo profound changes. They are characterized by transformation of space-time characteristics – narrowing of the field purposeful, expansion of processes of spontaneous socialization. At the same time the methodological approaches and methods of a research aimed at the analysis of the static phenomena applied in pedagogics become insufficient for a research of chaotic processes. There is a need for search of methodology and methods of a research within which the analysis of processes of spontaneous socialization of modern children and teenagers is possible. Research search shows that the solution of this task is possible on the basis of nonclassical methodological approach. Research objective: identification of opportunities of nonclassical methodology for a research of processes of spontaneous socialization of the modern child. Research problems: representation of the methods in logic of nonclassical methodology aimed at the analysis of these processes. Object and subject of research: the situation of development of the child which is characterized by experiences concerning the relations and readiness for an exception of social interaction in various spheres of activity and immersion in the Internet environment. Subject domain of a research: complex of the relations which are the cornerstone of purposeful and spontaneous socialization of the teenager. Research methodology - nonclassical (anthropological) approach. Research materials. In the course of work on a problem the research methods based mainly on the individual and communicative practicians aimed at the analysis of experiences and communication of the child were developed. Results of a research. The qualitative methods based nonclassical approach will allow to understand not only experiences of the child, but also as negative trends under what conditions they lead to break in relations and to search of significant network contacts that is under what conditions processes of purposeful socialization are weakened collect in his social situation of development, extend borders of socialization spontaneous.

The main goal of our article is to encourage personal reflection within the field of sport management as a tool to strengthen methodological approaches in our research. We explore and discuss the utility of collaborative self-ethnography as one way to acknowledge personal identities through a reflexive account of our experiences as sport fans and sport researchers with this methodology. We draw on a previous study of our experiences as sport fans to illustrate techniques, downfalls, and benefits of studying one’s experiences in a collaborative methodological approach. We have two objectives: First, we hope to encourage sport management researchers to acknowledge and reflect on their personal identities related to sport, such as being a fan, coach, volunteer, or former participant, in their research. Second, we aim to demonstrate the utility of collaborative self-ethnography as one way to incorporate reflexivity in sport management research and theory development.

Subject. As digital technologies spread across all industries, active processes of digital transformation need to be managed both nationally and regionally. Assessing the extent of digitalization across types of economic activities is the key issue for setting up the socio-economic development strategy of the region and evaluating its efficiency. Objectives. The study is aimed to formulate and test methodological approaches to assessing the digitalization in types of economic activities and the potential of digital technologies for the real economy. Methods. The study relies upon the dialectical method, systems approach, questionnaires, expert approach, interpretation of empirical facts through tables, etc. Results. We devised a methodological approaches to assessing the extent of digitalization in types of economic activities across regions. The approach combines the quantification and evaluation of the process and helps determine the extent of local digital transformation at the regional level. We devised and tested the methodological approach to rating digital technologies, which have the high potential for raising the competitiveness and resilience to competition of the industrial sector in the Russian regions. As opposed to the existing approaches, the approach accounts for the current scale of digital technologies in the national economy, the potential for growth in the demand and supply in the domestic and foreign markets, and the potential for import substitution with respect to foreign technologies and products. Conclusions and Relevance. What makes the proposed methodological approaches more preferable is that they help assess not only the extent of digitalization in types of economic activities and the predominance of certain types in industrial enterprises, but also determine their potential for import substitution in terms of digital security.

The purpose of the article is to substantiate the theoretical and methodological approach to determining the key characteristics of the assessment of ecosystem assets of territorial communities related to water. The study considers the theoretical and methodological principles of assessing ecosystem assets for sustainable development of local communities. The initial methodological approaches of the accumulated world experience on the assessment of ecosystem services and ecosystem assets of local level territories in the context of three components (ecological, economic and social) in the context of water-related ecosystems are specified. An algorithm for estimating ecosystem assets is proposed. The key guidelines for assessing the ecosystem assets of territorial spatial entities based on European experience are revealed. The list of scientific recommendations for the assessment of water-related ecosystem assets to enhance the capacity of local communities and preserve and restore ecosystems is substantiated. The novelty of the study lies in the proposals for the implementation in Ukrainian practice of general approaches to the methodology of assessment of ecosystem assets and services, according to the recommendations of the international project of the European Commission “The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity” (TEEB). The key Euro-benchmarks proposed by the author for the assessment of water-related ecosystem assets will help increase the investment attractiveness of spatial territorial formations and create preconditions for the development of a new economy on an ecosystem basis. Further research has prospects in the following areas: formation of a comprehensive strategic approach to the introduction of ecosystem asset valuation at the local level; development and introduction of effective methodological approaches to the assessment of ecosystem assets for the formation of investment attractiveness of the territory through the use of local natural resources, including water, as ecosystem assets of sustainable spatial development.

Advances in molecular biology have led to some surprising discoveries. One of these includes the complexities of RNA and its role in gene expression. One particular class of RNA called microRNA (miRNA) is the focus of this paper. We will first briefly look at some of the characteristics and biogenesis of miRNA in plant systems. The remainder of the paper will go into details of three different approaches used to identify and study miRNA. These include two reverse genetics approaches: computation (bioinformatics) and experimental, and one rare forward genetics approach. We also will summarize how to measure and quantify miRNAs, and how to detect their possible targets in plants. Strengths and weaknesses of each methodological approach are discussed.
