Indonesia enters the ageing population because of increasing elderly population. The large number of ederly population can have negative impact if they have some problems, such as increased disability and increased rates of life dependence. Based on health research, it was mentioned that the cause of the most injuries to the elderly group is falls that are caused by balance disorder. Balance problems can be caused by changes of musculoskeletal function. In addition, Body Mass Index (BMI) is still a problem that often occurs in the elderly that can affect daily activities. The objective of this study was to prove that lower limb muscle strength and BMI have correlation with body balance in the elderly. This study used a cross-sectional method carried out on individuals from affordable populations with Kendall Tau C data analysis. Thirty-nine respondents were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were taken from these respondents on weight and height measurement for BMI, size of lower limb muscle strength using a leg dynamometer, and body balance based on risk of falls using Berg’s balance scale. We obtained significant score 0,000 for correlation between lower limb muscle strength with body balance in elderly, and correlation between BMI with body balance in elderly. In conclusion, there is strong positive correlation between lower limb muscle strength with body balance in elderly. It is shown by the better muscle strength; the risk of falling in the elderly is getting lower. There is strong positive correlation between BMI with body balance in elderly. It is shown by increasing BMI away from normal scale; the risk of falling is higher.

Kata kunci : Tinetti POMA, latihan keseimbangan fisik   RISK DECREASING FALLS THROUGH TINETTI PERFORMANCE ORIENTED MOBILITY ASSESSMENT (POMA) ASSESSMENT WITH EXERCISEPHYSICAL BALANCE IN ELDERLY   ABSTRACT Aging is a process of slowly disappearing the ability of tissue to repair itself or replace and maintain its normal function so it cannot withstand infections and repair damage suffered. Health problems that often occur in the elderly, one of which is musculoskeletal, which is a decrease in muscle mass and tone, muscle fiber decreases in size, muscle strength decreases. The falling incident in Indonesia was recorded by 115 orphanage residents as many as 30 elderly or around 43.47%. One effort to prevent falls in the elderly is by physical balance training. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of physical balance training with the Tinetti POMA assessment of the decline in the incidence of elderly falls. The design of this study used a pre-experimental method with one group pretest posttest design. The sampling technique in this study used a simple random sampling method and the sample size used Roschoe with a sample of 30 respondents. The results showed that before the intervention was given, the results showed that elderly respondents who had a high risk of falling were 9 respondents (30.0%), and respondents with a moderate risk of falling were 21 respondents (70.0%). Whereas after being given the intervention showed the same results as many as 15 respondents (50%) had a risk of moderate fall and 15 respondents (50%) had a risk of falling low. Statistical results with paired t test showed that there was an effect of elderly physical balance training with a jatih study on the elderly with P value 0,000. Nurses are expected to be able to prevent the risk of falling on the elderly by providing knowledge to nursing staff / cadres about the study of elderly people who are at risk of falling who then to prevent the elderly by being given physical balance training. Keywords: POMA Tinetti, physical balance training

ABSTRACTBackground : Joint flexibility decreases in old age due to a degenerative process resulting in changes in joints, connective tissue and cartilage in the elderly. Decreasing flexibility is also due to reduced elasticity of muscle fibers, where connective tissue in muscle fibers increases (Mariyam, 2008).Objective : The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of active exercise (ROM) on the lower extremities on increasing the flexibility of the knee joint in the elderlyMethods : This study using a quasi-experimental approach with One group pre-test and post-test design. The sampling technique uses the Slovin method of 42 people, obtained a sample of 25 elderly. Exercise is done twice a day for 8 days. Measurements were made on day 1, day 4 and day 8 of the study using a Goniometer measuring instrument..Result : The results of measurement I average of the right knee joint 117.52o, measurement II = 122.24, measurement III = 126, 36o. From the analysis with Paired simple t-Test between the measurements I and II, it was found that the different test measurements I and II t count value was equal to -1.908 with 0.068. Because sig 0.05, it can be concluded that Ho is accepted, meaning that the average angle of ROM before and after training is the same (not different). In the different test measurements II and III the value of t count is equal to -2.152 with sig 0.042.Conclusion : Because sig 0.05, it can be concluded that Ho is rejected, meaning that there is a difference in ROM angle after training between days 4 to 8 with the first day to day 4. Thus it can be stated that active ROM exercises affect the angle of ROM of the knee joint elderly after exercise ROM between day 4 to day 8. Keywords: active ROM exercise, flexibility of knee joint, elderly.

Naturally the elderly is experiencing a decline both in terms of physical, biological and mental and this is not independent of economic, social and cultural issues. Sleep disorders is one of the health problems often faced by the elderly. The elderly require good sleep quality to improve health and restore the condition of the illness. There are several ways to deal with insomnia can be done in 2 ways: pharmacology and non pharmacology. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of lavender and guided imagery on insomnia in elderly in Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of Social Tresna Werdha Glenmore Sub-district of Banyuwangi Regency. In this research, the research design used is True experimental research design. The population of the study were all elderly people who experienced insomnia of 36 people and sample of 33 people by using simple random sampling. Data collection using checklist sheet then analyzed using Cochran test. The results showed that significant probability value of Cochran test of 0,032 <0,05 means there is significant difference between giving of lavender scent, guided imagery and control group to insomnia. While the treatment before and after the lavender scent there is a significant influence on insomnia (p: 0.008 <0.05). Treatment before and after guided imagery there is a significant effect on insomnia (p: 0,016 <0,05). Treatment before and after the control group there was no significant effect on insomnia (p: 0,500> 0,05). Based on the results of this study non pharmacology treatment can be maintained and continued for better sleep quality. Whether using aroma therapy or guided imagery lavender because it has been proven to reduce insomnia.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of daily cognitive task on stiffness of old and young female adults during the gait. The study included 17 physically active younger and 18 older women, with low risk of falls. The volunteers were asked to walk on the treadmill at two different gait conditions: normal gait and functional dual-task gait. The electromyographic signals were collected of the lower limb muscles. The percentage of coactivation for the tibialis anterior/gastrocnemius lateralis and tibialis anterior/soleus were significantly higher in elderly than in younger in the normal gait and dual-task gait. Our results suggest that the elderly have a greater stiffness in the ankle joint during gait normal and daily dual task gait. Thus, we conclude that challenging cognitively situations during the gait may increase the risk of falls in this population.
