The high plan of nutrition right from an early age is believed to enhance ovarian activity and early onset of puberty in heifers. This study was therefore conducted to know the body weight, ovarian and blood biochemical changes in nutritionally supplemented and control groups of prepubertal Jaffrabadi buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) heifers. A total of 12 animals of 30 ± 2 month's age and the identical body weight of 380–410 kg from Cattle Breeding Farm, JAU, Junagadh were utilized for this study. They were randomly divided into two equal groups of 6 animals in each treatment and control groups. The heifers of the treatment group were supplemented with bypass fat (100 g), bypass protein (950 g) and chelated mineral mixture (50 g) over the routine farm feeding practices of control group, and its effect on body weight gain and blood biochemical profiles were studied at a monthly interval during 6 months of experimental period. The overall effect of nutritional supplementation on animals body weight, blood glucose and total cholesterol over the control group was statistically non-significant (p greator than 0.05) yet beneficial. The plasma total protein levels in the supplemented group increased with a duration of supplement and levels were significantly (p less than 0.05) higher over the control group. The ovarian dynamics evaluated by transrectal ultrasound during last three months of the study revealed an increasing number of growing follicles greator than 4 mm in diameters (5.00 ± 0.13 to 6.67 ± 0.40), without significant variation in diameters of largest follicles (9.14 ± 0.45 to 10.27 ± 0.85 mm) between groups or periods. However, none of the heifers exhibited behavioral signs of estrus during 6 months study, in spite of the establishment of cyclicity with the presence of developed follicles, or CLs suggesting silent ovulation, at 36 ± 2 months of age in this breed.

This study was initiated on 24 prepubertal Holstein x Kankrej crossbred heifers of nearly identical age (7-9 months) and body weight (130-140 kg) at University farm to evaluate the effect of high plane of nutrition on blood biochemical and minerals profile and the age at puberty. Twelve heifers were managed under routine farm feeding (control) and the rest 12 under ideal optimum feeding regime (treatment) that included extra 1 kg concentrate, 30 g min mix and ad-lib dry fodder. The body weight and ovarian ultrasonography together with blood sampling was carried out at monthly interval from 10 to 18 months of age to study the ovarian dynamics and blood biochemical changes. High plane of nutrition to growing heifers was beneficial in reducing the age of onset of puberty (by 2-3 months) compared to routine farm fed group. The mean plasma total protein and cholesterol concentrations showed a rising trend with significant variations from 10 to 16 months of age, where it got mostly stabilized indicating adult profile. The activity of enzymes GOT and GPT also rose gradually and significantly from 10 months till 14-15 months of age, and thereafter it remained more or less static till 18 months of age. The levels of both these enzymes were higher, with lower protein and cholesterol, in control than the treatment group from 15-16 months of age onwards. The mean plasma levels of both calcium and phosphorus increased gradually and significantly with advancing age till 16-17 months of age, with little higher values in supplemented than a control group. The plasma levels of zinc, iron, copper, and cobalt also showed rising trend with significant differences between 10th and 12th-14th months of age, and from 15th to 18th months of age the levels were statistically the same in all the groups with slightly higher values in the treatment group.

Aim. To establish the features of somatometric maturity of premature infants in the sensitive period of development. Material and methods. The somatometric method of the study was used to examine 124 children aged 7 years, who were divided into control and main groups. The control group included boys and girls with a history of traditional gestation periods. Boys and girls of the main group had all the signs of anatomical and physiological prematurity. Somatometric studies were carried out according to the traditional method, which included measurements of the overall dimensions of the body. On the basis of somatometric indicators, the indices of proportionality and harmony of the physique were calculated. The body types of children were determined according to the recommendations of V. G. Nikolaev (2007). To perform calculations of individual components of body weight, the manual of E. G. Martirosov (2010). Results. Somatometric studies have established sexual and intergroup differences in the physique of children aged 7 years. The analysis of the obtained data revealed the following feature: the longitudinal, transverse and girth dimensions in children of the control group are characterized by a significantly high increase by the age of 7. In children of the main group, the value of somatometric indicators is significantly lower, which is reflected in the lower massiveness and strength of the body of children of this group. It can be assumed that somatometric measurements revealed the features of growth processes in the physical development of children of the main and control groups. Somatometric studies can serve as objective criteria for the physical health of children and allow a more differentiated approach to the assessment of growth processes, as well as to predict possible deviations in a timely manner. Our study showed that the component composition of body weight has a significant impact on the formation of somatotypological features that reflect the degree of reactivity and resistance of the body of children at certain stages of development. The magnitude of endomorphy, mesomorphy and ectomorphy is characterized by sexual and intergroup differences that have a significant impact on the body shape and strength of the physique. Conclusion. Somatometric studies of the body of children aged 7 years allowed us to establish the features of growth processes in children of the main and control groups, which represent the norm of a biological reaction aimed at the optimal development of the child’s body. The revealed features in the morphofunctional status of children have established the mechanisms of compensatory and adaptive reactions that contribute to the formation of a certain morphotype. The structural and functional specificity of children is determined, which provides a certain reactivity and resistance of the body at the age of 7 years. Somatometric differences in the physical status of children are an objective criterion for the sanitary and hygienic well-being of the younger generation, and the data obtained allow us to identify deviations in a timely manner and carry out corrective measures.

The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of Moringa oleifera aqueous seed extract on live body weight, gonadal and extragonadal dimensions and sperm reserves of Yankasa rams. Twenty five apparently healthy Yankasa rams aged 1-2 years and weighing 19.0 ± 2.1 Kg were used for the study. The rams were randomly selected into five groups: A, B, C, D and E with five rams in each group as treatment and control groups respectively. Groups A - D were given oral dose of Moringa oleifera aqueous seed extract at a dose rate of 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 (mg/kg), respectively while group E was given 10 ml/kg water orally, daily for five months. Live body weight, gonadal and extragonadal reserves were determined according to standard techniques. The results showed a significant increase in live body weight in the months of April to June among rams treated with different doses of Moringa oleifera aqueous seed extract compared with the control group. The control group showed no significant differences in the body weight, gonadal and extragonadal dimensions and sperm reserves. In conclusion, the treatment of Yankasa rams with Moringa oleifera aqueous seed extract increased live body weight, but had no significant effects on gonadal and extragonadal dimensions and sperm reserves in Yankasa rams. Therefore, it is recommended that M. oleifera aqueous seed extract can be used at doses of 2000mg/kg to 3000mg/kg in Yankasa rams for optimum gain in live body weight.

Abstract Background: Obesity is a serious health issue and predisposes individuals to an increased risk of morbidity and mortality. Its prevalence in children has increased worldwide. Objective: To demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of a school-based management program based on healthy lifestyle promotion for obese and overweight adolescents in Sousse, Tunisia. Methods: We conducted a quasi-experimental study among overweight and obese school children enrolled in 7th and 8th grades in Sousse, Tunisia with two groups, intervention and control. The 1-year intervention was based on promoting healthy eating and physical activity through a collective intervention for all recruited children and an individual intervention only for obese children who require intensive managing. Data collection was done before, at the end and at a 4-month follow up of the intervention, both in intervention and control groups. Results: The body mass index Z score decreased significantly from pre-intervention to post-intervention (1.89±0.57 to 1.76±0.63, p<0.001) and from post-intervention to the follow-up (1.76±0.63 to 1.55±0.68, p<0.001) in the intervention group. In the control group, it decreased significantly from pre-intervention to post-intervention but not significantly from post-intervention to follow-up assessment. Calorie intake decreased significantly both in intervention and control groups. Conclusion: This project began with introducing a new culture of health management in schools on one side and with increasing awareness of the importance of obesity prevention and treatment. The support of authorities for this type of action is very important to guarantee its sustainability.

To assess endothelial function in the newborns born to mothers with preeclampsia and without preeclampsia the scientists assessed the content of nitricoxide and hydrogen sulfide in the umbilical and venous blood of these children. The main group consisted of 80 women with moderate preeclampsia and their80 newborns; the control group included 50 children born to women without preeclampsia. The authors studied the content of nitric oxide by determining the totalnitrates and nitrites (NOx), hydrogen sulfide in mixed cord blood collected within 30 minutes after delivery, and venous blood taken from newborns on the 1-3rd day of life. Umbilical cord blood demonstrated no significant differences in the content of NO xand hydrogen sulfide in newborns of the main and control groups. However, in general, the study of umbilical cord blood revealed a relationship between the concentration of hydrogen sulfide and the possibility of developing intraventricular hemorrhagein a newborn of the main and control groups. In the venous blood there was a significant increase in the content of NOx and hydrogen sulfide in newborns born to mothers with preeclampsia. It may cause vasodilation asa compensatory reaction of the body during the period of postnatal adaptation of the child’s body, aimed at life support.

Introduction: Preclinical studies in ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) indicate that high mechanical index impulses guided with transthoracic diagnostic ultrasound associated with intravenously administered microbubbles results in the dissolution of the thrombus (sonothrombolysis), improving coronary microcirculation and epicardial coronary recanalization rate. Hypothesis: Left atrial (LA) echocardiographic parameters are compromised in STEMI and can be accurately measured by two-dimensional echocardiography. To study the effect of sonotrombolysis on the LA pressure and volume we propose our study. Methods: A total of 100 patients were randomized, 50 for the control group and 50 for the therapy group. Echocardiographic analysis of LA pressure and volume were performed immediately before and after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), 72 hours, 1 month and 6 months of follow-up. LA pressure was classified in normal or elevated, depending on the grade of left ventricular diastolic disfunction (DD): normal diastolic function and DD grade 1 have normal LA pressure, and DD grades 2 and 3 have elevated LA pressure, according to the American and European guideline. LA volume was evaluated by Simpson method and indexed to the body surface area. Results: The LA pressure and volume had lower values in the therapy group after 6 months of PCI. The comparison of LA pressure between the therapy and control groups respectively was: before PCI (72% vs. 70% normal; 28% vs. 30% elevated; p=0.826), after PCI (68% vs. 65% normal; 32% vs. 35% elevated; p=0.777), 72 hours (75% vs. 62% normal; 25% vs. 38% elevated; p=0.147), 1 month (68% vs. 52% normal; 32% vs. 48% elevated; p=0.123) and 6 months (84% vs. 64% normal; 16% vs. 36% elevated; p=0.035). The comparison of LA volumes between the therapy and control groups respectively was: before PCI (19.0±6.2 vs. 22.4±9.8 ml/m 2 ; p=0.061), after PCI (22.8±7.9 vs. 24.4±12.1 ml/m 2 ; p=0.469), 72 hours (25.9±8.5 vs. 26.4±12.7 ml/m 2 ; p=0.815), 1 month (27.2±8.3 vs. 29.1±13.1 ml/m 2 ; p=0.410) and 6 months (26.7±7.5 vs. 33.1±14.9 ml/m 2 ; p=0.013). Conclusions: The use of sonothrombolysis as adjuvant therapy in STEMI patients results in better values of LA pressure and volume, demonstrating the benefit of using this new therapy.

This study was performed to clarify the differences of the body heats between electroacupuncture analgesia (EA) and anesthesia by ketamine hydrochloride (ketamine anesthesia) in dogs. Nine clinically healthy dogs were divided into ketamine anesthesia (control: 5 heads) and EA (experimental: 4 heads) groups, respectively. The acupoints GV-5 and Bai-Hui were used. The infrared thermographic system was used to determine the body heats. The body heats was determined at areas such as the dorsocranial (DCr), dorsocaudal (DCd), ventrocranial (VCr) and ventrocaudal (VCd) regions, on pretreatment, 10, 20, 30, 50 and 90 minutes after treatments, respectively in control and experimental groups. The body heats showed decreasing tendency until 30 minutes after ketamine injection, and then showed increasing pattern until 90 minutes after at all areas investigated in the control group. However, no significant differences of the body heats in the DCr, DCd, VCr and VCd regions were found in the control group. On the other hand, the body heats showed increasing tendency until 30 minutes, and then showed decreasing pattern until 90 minutes after EA, in the experimental group. The significant difference was observed at 30 minutes in the DCr region, and also at 10, 20 and 30 minutes in the DCd regions in the experimental group ( p < 0.05). The significant differences of the body heats were detected at 20 minutes in the DCr region, at 30 minutes in the DCd region and at 30 minutes in the VCd region between the experimental and control groups ( p < 0.05). In conclusion, EA increases of the body heat in the contrary to that of ketamine anesthesia.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Health Qigong on the treatment and releasing symptoms of Parkinson’s disease (PD). Fifty-four moderate PD patients (N=54) were randomly divided into experimental and control groups. Twenty-eight PD patients were placed in the experimental group in which the prescribed medication plus Health Qigong exercise will be used as intervention. The other 26 PD patients as the control group were treated only with regular medication. Ten-week intervention had been conducted for the study, and participants completed the scheduled exercises 5 times per week for 60 minutes each time (10 minutes for warm-up, 40 minutes for the exercise, and 10 minutes for cooldown). Data which included the muscle hardness, one-legged blind balance, physical coordination, and stability was collected before, during, and after the intervention. Comparisons were made between the experimental and control groups through the Repeated Measures ANOVA. The results showed that PD patients demonstrate a significant improvement in muscle hardness, the timed “up and go,” balance, and hand-eye coordination (the turn-over-jars test). There were no significant differences between the two groups in gender, age, and course of differences (P<0.05). The study concluded that Health Qigong exercises could reduce the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and improve the body functions of PD patients in both the mild and moderate stages. It can be added as an effective treatment of rehabilitation therapy for PD.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of discriminate and indiscriminate use of colistin sulfate on body weight and haematological parameters in broiler. Day-old-broiler chicks were collected and reared for up to 31 days. The chicks were randomly divided into control, discriminate and indiscriminate antibiotic group. The discriminate group was treated with colistin sulfate antibiotic (Eskolis-24) for one week (from 16th to 22th day) followed by one week withdrawal period. In case of indiscriminate group, the poultry were treated with colistin sulfate antibiotic for 14 days (from 16th to 29th day) without any withdrawal period until sacrifice. The body weight of the birds were recorded daily. The mean body weight was highest in indiscriminate group (1408.22±133.49 gm) followed by discriminate group (1330.15±134.93 gm) and control group (1243.81±173.19 gm). The differences among means of three groups were not statistically significant. The Total erythrocyte count (Million/mm3) of control, discriminate, and indiscriminate groups were 2.53± 0.05, 2.56±0.08, and 2.52±0.08 respectively. The hemoglobin (gm%) were 7.06± 0.09, 7.03± 0.12, and 7.11±0.09 respectively and the Packed Cell Volume (%) were 19.66±1.11, 19.33±0.95, and 20.16±0.70 respectively. The results found were not statistically significant among the groups for TEC, Hb and PCV respectively. Total lymphocyte (%) count were 67.16±0.60, 70±1.15, and 71.83±1.30 respectively. Total neutrophil (%) count were 32.83± 0.60, 28.83±1.42, and 26.83±1.10 respectively. Total eosinophil (%) count were 0± 0, 1±0.44, and 1.16±0.40 respectively. Total basophil (%) count were zero (0) and total monocyte (%) count were 0± 0, 0.17±0.17, and 0.17±0.17 respectively. In our experiment, both discriminate and indiscriminate groups showed no significant differences of lymphocyte, neutrophil, eosinophil, basophil and monocyte. Therefore, discriminate and indiscriminate use of colistin sulfate for two weeks has no effect on haematological parameters of broiler poultry. Further experiment needed for more concise conclusion. Climatic models predict scenarios in which ambient temperature will continue increasing worldwide. Under these climatic conditions, fitness and animal welfare of many populations are expected to suffer, especially those that live in captive or semi-natural conditions, where opportunities of heat abatement are limited. We undertook an experimental design to assess the effect of heat abatement that water sprinkling might have on Iberian red deer calf growth and behaviour from birth to weaning (135 days). One group of ten mother-calf pairs lived on plots with water sprinkling (treatment) available during summer’s hottest time of the day, while the control group (nine mother-calf pairs) occupied plots with no available water sprinkling. Treatment and control groups were fed ad libitum and swapped between plots every seven days to minimise any plot effect. Body weight was monitored weekly and individual behaviour was recorded once or twice a week at mid-day. We observed that calves had showers under the sprinklers and wallowed in mud puddles. The results clearly indicated that calves of the treatment group showed a significant increase in body weight at weaning in comparison with the control group, with no differences between sexes (treatment: male = 56.5 kg, female = 50.3 kg; control: male = 50.3 kg, female = 46.5 kg). Mother weight and mother age effects were negligible on calf body weight at weaning. The heavier the mother the faster was the rate of growth of its offspring, irrespective of calf sex. The model indicated that although males grew significantly slower than female calves in the control group, males grew faster than females when exposed to the treatment. Calves of the treatment group spent less time drinking, less time in the shade, similar time eating and more time in motion than calves of the control group. There were no behavioural differences between calf sexes of treatment and control groups. The results indicate the importance of providing animals with opportunities of heat abatement in hot environments to improve animal growth and welfare in farmed Iberian red deer.
