Background: Low birth weigth babies (LBW) are most likely a cause of the infant mortality and morbidity. Many factors causes LBW babies as maternal health, behavior during pregnancy, environmental  as well as fetal and placental factors. Negative behavior during pregnancy such as exposure of cigarette smoke can affect the body’s supply of oxygen from mother to fetus and placenta. Exposure to cigarette smoke may also reduce maternal folic acid level which causes disruption of fetal growth inside the womb. Objective: This study was aimed to fnd out the risk of low birth weight baby in the passive smoker pregnant woman.Method: The study used a case control design. The subject consisted of mothers who delivered at RSU dr. Zainoel Abidin in Banda Aceh municipality. The case group were mothers who delivered babies of less than 2,500 grams and the control group were those who delivered babies of 2,500 grams or more. Each group consisted of 105 mothers (1:1). Sample were taken using non probability with consecutive sampling method. Data analysis used univariable method with frequency distribution, bivariable with chi square and multivariable with logistic regression. Results: Passive smoker pregnant woman exposed the 1-10 cigarettes a day had risk 2,4 times greater of getting low birth weight baby (OR=2,42; 95%CI 1,24-4,71). Pregnant mother exposed to ≥11 cigarettes a day had the risk 3,1 times greates in having LBW infants than those not exposed (OR=3,1; 95%CI 1,50-6,70).Conclusion: Passive smoker of pregnant mother increased the risk of low birth weight babies.

Cases of low birth weight (LBW) are at risk of increasing mortality and morbidity, it is necessary to identify identification of LBW incidence factors. This study analyzed the risk factors for LBW events. This research is a study consisting of two groups and case control designed with a case study design. The population is mothers who have been collected with a sample of 54 respondents divided into two case groups and a control group. Sampling in the study group with a simple random sampling technique and in the control group took samples that matched the age group so that they obtained the same number of samples between the case group and the control group. Variables published were age at pregnancy, parity, diet  and disease history, analysis of data using Odd Ratio and multivariate logistic regression (a = 0.05).Factors associated with low birth weight during pregnancy were age (p = 0.013), parity (p = 0.002), diet (p = 0.001) and disease history (p = 0.000). The results of logistic regression analysis showed that the age during pregnancy was a risk factor for LBW and the most influential factor (OR = 13,311; 95% CI 1,753-101,080). age (<20 and> 35 years) has a risk of 13 times giving birth to babies with low births compared to mothers aged 20-35 years. It is expected that the mother avoids the risk of pregnancy at age (<20 years and> 35 years) and the dissemination of related health workers about risky pregnancies to reduce the risk of LBW. Keywords : Age; parity;diet; history of disease; LBW.

Berat badan lahir rendah (BBLR) menjadi salah satu penyebab utama mortalitas bayi. Low birth weight becomes one problem that may cause infant mortality. This study aimed to find the relation between pesticide exposure during pregnancy and low birth weight. This was case control study. The subjects were divided into two groups: 25 farmers with low birth weight infants as case group, and subjects 25 farmers with normal birth weight infants wholived around the case group as control group. Data were collected with interview and observation. Data were analyzed by univariate and bivariate analysis (chi-square test and fisher test). Risk factors during pregnancy that associated with lowbirth weight were activities with pesticide during pregnancy (OR= 6,769); personal protective equipment completeness (OR= 18,857); and storage of pesticide (OR= 12,667). Recommended to pregnant farmer to avoid activity with pesticide during pregnancy. Pregnant farmer should use personal protective equipment completely when agricultural activities could not be avoided

Background: Pneumonia, as a fairly prevalent illness, is the main cause of hospital mortality. The major cause of mortality and morbidity of pneumonia is due to bacteria. The presence of multi-drug resistant pathogens and no response to treatment have aroused considerable interest in the use of probiotic components to prevent infections. Objectives: Given that few studies have evaluated the efficacy of probiotics in reducing bacterial pneumonia, the current aimed to evaluate the role of probiotics in decreasing pneumonia. Methods: This double-blind, randomized clinical trial study was conducted on 100 patients diagnosed with bacterial pneumonia in Shahid Beheshti Hospital, Kashan, Iran, during 2018. Patients were randomly classified into two groups (n = 50). One group (case) received two sachets of probiotic/daily for five days, and another group (control) received placebo. Moreover, patients in both groups received the same treatment protocol. All data were extracted from medical records. Chi-square test and independent t-test were used for analysis of data. P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: No significant difference was seen between case and control groups regarding age, gender, and duration of symptoms before hospitalization (P > 0.05), which implies a completely random classification of two groups. The mean duration of hospitalization, dyspnea, tachypnea, cough, fever, and crackles was significantly decreased in the case group compared to the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The use of probiotics can be effective in reducing the duration of dyspnea, tachypnea, cough, fever, and length of hospitalization. Therefore, probiotics may be considered a promising treatment for the development of new anti-infectious therapy. In addition, the usage of probiotics along with antibiotics is suggested for decreasing pneumonia complications and improving the efficacy of therapy.
