This research paper will begin with philosophically exploring the saying “The Researcher You Are Is The Person You Are”. This provide an insight on the views and the perspectives of the researcher on the research as a subject. Subsequently, the other contents of the paper are divided into two major sections. The first section discusses the Qualitative and Quantitative philosophical and theoretical debates in contemporary educational research; Qualitative and Quantitative approaches in educational research; Objectivity and Subjectivity in educational research; Links between Data Collection and Data Analysis in educational research. The second part of the paper discussed the action research in education and the reflection of the person you are is the researcher you are in educational research settings. Finally, the paper conclude that there is no single formula when it comes to conducting research in education, each and every researcher regardless of his or her area of study would always be conducting research based on what he or she thinks and deems is the best research paradigm and method to adopt. However, there are some confident guiding principles that their application guarantee effectiveness to a certain degree in educational research.

Aprendizagem.Whatsapp as an environment for social interaction and learning during emergency remote teachingABSTRACT The emergency remote education (ERE) proved to be a possibility in the face of the pandemic caused by COVID-19. On the other hand, it brought many challenges, particularly with regard to the interaction and learning of students in classroom courses. Based on the historical-cultural perspective of learning and studies on the use of educational technologies, the objective of this study is to analyze the use of the WhatsApp application as an environment for social interaction and learning during the ERE. This qualitative, exploratory study had its data collection based on the record of conversations between professors and undergraduate students, during the first semester of 2020, which were analyzed according to thematic categories according to the objectives of the interaction: general, technologies and learning. Its results show, mainly, that the practicality, accessibility, familiarity and affinity of students with WhatsApp were decisive for the maintenance of learning processes during ERE, transforming the application as a complementary tool into a highly powerful tool for questions about content, on processes, on the technologies themselves and on social interaction between peers, supporting their learning. It can be concluded that the use of non-educational technologies, such as WhatsApp, was of use in education not only during the ERE, but also could contribute to its potential for bringing peers closer together. The messaging application proved, through its channels, an accessible possibility so that social interaction and learning processes were sustained in this moment of uncertainty. Keywords: Emergency Remote Teaching. Many students find it hard to acquire and convey messages due to the lack of mastery in vocabulary. Since vocabulary plays a major role as the basic requirement to learning a language, its mastery became vital in learning English. On the other hand, lack of vocabulary impedes students’ understanding in reading comprehension texts especially in second language classrooms. Therefore, this study was conducted in order to obtain information regarding the effectiveness of using flip book in increasing Year 3 pupils’ mastery of vocabulary in English. This study investigated the use of flip book approach in helping the students to improve vocabulary through fun and meaningful learning. 15 participants were involved in the action research who were selected from a suburban school in Malaysia. Survey, written documents and field notes were used as the medium of data collection. The results showed significant positive changes in the performance of the students from time to time. Flip book approach was found to help the weak students who faced problems in understanding the meaning of the vocabulary taught in the classrooms. This study suggests that students need to enhance the mastery of the vocabulary in order to have a good grasp of the language including the four skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

This article presents an overview of action research conducted in an EFL university context, regarding primarily the relationship between individual possible self-images, socially constructed possible self-images, and language-learning motivation. The study used three cycles of action research over the course of one 15-week university semester, utilizing mixed-methods data collection and analysis. The results provide support for the assertion that initially inquiring with students as to their language possible self-images might assist the teacher to create more motivating lessons through self-enhancement activities. Furthermore, the article provides context-dependent evidence that assisting students to focus their language-learning possible self-images may positively affect motivation and bring a heightened recognition of self-regulation in language learning.
