Purpose The purpose of this paper is to address the need to understand how younger music festival-goers use and engage with a music festival’s Facebook page, and how they perceive this social networking service (SNS) as a potential on-line platform for value co-creation. Design/methodology/approach Face-to-face in-depth interviews were conducted with 16 young adults who attended an annual New Year’s Eve music festival, Rhythm and Vines, in Gisborne, New Zealand. Findings Analysis of the interview data revealed that the majority of participants did not actively engage with this platform and could be categorised as passive viewers or information-seekers. In addition, participants perceived five types of value from using this SNS: functional, social, emotional, interactive and aesthetic value. Even though participants were not segmented due to the small sample size, patterns in their levels of engagement with Facebook, attendance status, reasons for attending the festival and the combinations of forms of value that they perceived were identified. Research limitations/implications Future research should use a large-scale survey method to obtain a representative sample that is generalisable to a specific population of music festival-goers. Practical implications Dominance of features on Facebook providing festival-goers with functional value suggests they prefer a passive or co-optation approach to value co-creation in this context. Due to the limited extent of participants actively co-creating value on this platform, alternative means of encouraging interaction to co-create value with festival-goers should be investigated. Originality/value This study demonstrates that this SNS provides this group of young adults with a means to connect their real-time festival experience, with their on-line Facebook social network during the year.

This research was a qualitative descriptive study using questionnaire and interview instruments. Information was also obtained through literature study and field observations. The subjects of this study were farmers in Jono Oge village, Sigi regency.  Respondents were purposively selected. The questionnaires consisted of ten questions which had been validated by experts.  The questionnaires were given to ten farmers while the interview was conducted on four farmers.  The literature study was carried out by tracing information on the Sigi Regency BPS Office, Jono Oge Village Office and a number of online media reporting on earthquakes and liquefaction that occurred in Central Sulawesi on 28 September 2018. The observations were made on such land affected by earthquakes and liquefaction. These observations were also carried out on irrigation channels and cultivated land in the area of liquefaction.  It was found that around 250 ha cultivated agricultural land had been destroyed due to the liquefaction as well as the irrigation canals used to distribute water to the cultivated land had been damaged. The disappearance of the cultivated land had led the farmers to rent agricultural land in the nearby villages such as Lolu, Sidera and Pombewe in order for them to sustain their livelihood. The source of water for irrigation was ground water pumping by Alcon equipment donated by several organizations. The farmers' income was also decreased by almost 50%. Thus it was concluded that the earthquake and liquefaction had a significant impact on the lives of farmers in Jono Oge Village. Keywords: Earthquakes, Farmers, Jono Oge and Liquefaction.

The COVID-19 global pandemic has affected all aspects of human life, with education, not an exception. In an attempt to stop the SARS-CoV-2 spreading like wildfire, the Government of Nepal has implemented nationwide lockdowns since March 24, 2020, that have enforced schools and universities to shut down. As a consequence, more than four hundred thousand students of various levels in higher education institutions (HEIs) are in a dilemma about restoring the situation. Several HEIs, nationwide, have leaped forward from the traditional concept of learning—limited within the boundary of the classroom—to choosing digital platforms as an alternative means of teaching because of the pandemic. For this research, the descriptive and inferential analysis was carried out to investigate the effects and challenges of learning via digital platforms during this pandemic. Data were collected from students and faculty at various levels of higher education and analyzed statistically with different factors using t-test and ANOVA, and variables were found to be approximately normally distributed. The study revealed that 70% of the respondents had access to the Internet, but 36% of the Internet accessed did not continue online classes due to unexpected disturbance in Internet and electrical connectivity. Likewise, 65% of students did not feel comfortable with online classes, and among attendees of online classes, 78% of students want to meet the instructor for a better understanding of course matters. According to the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) model, three factors, such as institutional policy, internet access, and poverty, are found to be significant factors affecting the online higher education systems in Nepal. On the brighter side, this outbreak has brought ample opportunities to reform the conventional teaching-learning paradigm in Nepal.
