Introduction: Small Gestational Age (SGA) children is defined as infant whose birth’s weight was below the tenth percentile intrauterine growth and development curve of Lubchenco. There are two types of SGA children, namely symmetrycal SGA (the disturbance occurred in the first trimester of pregnancy) and asymmetrical SGA (the disturbance occured in second and third trimesters of pregnancy). The aim of this research was to obtain the deciduous teeth eruption patterns in symmetrical and asymmetrical of SGA children, based on baby teeth that  have erupted the eruption of primary teeth. Methods: The research design was descriptive and analytical, with cross-sectional design and using the given sample size. The sample were 28 SGA children aged 1-4 years and 33 Appropriate Gestational Age (AGA) children. Determination of SGA children based on Ponderal Index. Eruptive stage was determined by Nola Modification Scoring by the score between 0-4. (Score (0) for tooth that have not erupted; (1) tooth emerge, (2) ⅓ crown  erupted tooth, (3) ½ crown erupted tooth, (4) full crown tooth. Results: The results showed, that there were differences in the pattern of deciduous teeth eruption based on teeth eruption stages that have been erupted. Eruption pattern of SGA children deciduous teeth were slower than the eruption pattern of AGA children deciduous teeth. Conclusion: Different patterns of deciduous teeth eruption in symmetrical SGA children and asymmetrical SGA children were showed. Viewed from the stand point of view the stage of teeth eruption, the deciduous teeth eruption pattern of symmetrical SGA children was slower than the asymmetrical SGA children.

Objective: To study the prenatal developmental anatomy in first trimester of pregnancy in Khyber Pakhtun Khuwa. Materials and methods: The cross sectional study was conducted on 600 pregnant females visiting the antenatal clinic of Khyber Teaching Hospital Peshawar and Khyber clinic (Jamrud). The duration of study was 6 months. A pregnant women greater than 16 years of age, willing for ultrasound was selected, poor visualization due to technical factors like obesity, surgical scar were excluded. All the patients were enlisted under informed consent. Detailed obstetrical history was taken. The embryos were visualized with the help of abdominal ultrasound. Data were recorded followed by statistical analysis and presented as percentages. Results: In the present study, 591 cases (98.5%) were single, 8 (1.33%) cases were twin and one case is (0.16%) of triplets. The distributions of normal and abnormal cases were studied in first trimester. The shape of gestational sac was regular in 370(61.66%) and irregular in 230(38.33%) Yolk sacs were identified in 430(71.6%) cases, while in 170(28.33%) of cases yolk sac could not be identified. It could not be identified in 50 (8.33%) of cases due to early pregnancy and in 120 (20%) of cases due to abnormal pregnancy. The Fetal pole was detected in 150(25%) cases and could not be identified in 450 (75%) of cases. The relationship of gestational age, gestational sac and crown rump length in normal pregnancy was observed. Conclusions: There is linear increase in measurements of fetal growth parameters as the gestational age increases. For the assessment of gestational age in the first trimester, ultrasound is an accurate and useful modality. Key words: Trimester, Gestational sac, Yolk sac and Crown rump length.

ABSTRACT The fractional determination of 17-ketosteroids in the daily urine was performed in nine cases of hyperemesis gravidarum and in four control cases, in the first trimester of pregnancy both before and after corticotrophin administration. The excretion of total 17-KS is similar in the two groups. Only in the hyperemesis group does the excretion of total 17-KS increase significantly after corticotrophin administration. The fractional determination reveals no difference between the two groups of patients with regard to the values of the fractions U (unidentified 17-KS), A (androsterone) and Rest (11-oxygenated 17-KS). The excretion of dehydroepiandrosterone is significantly higher in the hyperemesis group than in the control group. The excretion of androstanolone seems to be lower in the hyperemesis group than in the control group, but the difference is not statistically significant. The differences in the correlation between dehydroepiandrosterone and androstanolone in the two groups is significant. The high excretion of dehydroepiandrosterone and low excretion of androstanolone in cases of hyperemesis gravidarum is a sign of adrenal dysfunction.

Background: Antibiotic use in pregnant women at the national level has rarely been reported in China. Objectives: We aimed to investigate antibiotic prescriptions during pregnancy in ambulatory care settings in China. Methods: Data of 4,574,961 ambulatory care visits of pregnant women from October 2014 to April 2018 were analyzed. Percentages of Antibiotic prescriptions by different subgroups and various diagnosis categories and proportions of inappropriate antibiotic prescriptions for different subgroups were estimated. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) pregnancy categories were used to describe the antibiotic prescription patterns. The 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated using the Clopper––Pearson method or Goodman method. Results: Among the 4,574,961 outpatient visits during pregnancy, 2.0% (92,514 visits; 95% CI, 2.0–2.0%) were prescribed at least one antibiotic. The percentage of antibiotic prescriptions for pregnant women aged >40 years was 4.9% (95% CI, 4.7–5.0%), whereas that for pregnant women aged 26–30 years was 1.5% (95% CI, 1.4–1.5%). In addition, percentages of antibiotic prescriptions varied among different trimesters of pregnancy, which were 5.4% (95% CI, 5.3–5.4%) for the visits in the first trimester of pregnancy and 0.5% (95% CI, 0.4–0.5%) in the third trimester of pregnancy. Furthermore, the percentages of antibiotic prescriptions substantially varied among different diagnosis categories and nearly three-quarters of antibiotic prescriptions had no clear indications and thus might be inappropriate. In total, 130,308 individual antibiotics were prescribed; among these, 60.4% (95% CI, 60.0–60.8%) belonged to FDA category B, 2.7% (95% CI, 2.1–3.5%) were classified as FDA category D and 16.8% (95% CI, 16.2–17.4%) were not assigned any FDA pregnancy category. Conclusions: Antibiotic prescriptions in ambulatory care during pregnancy were not highly prevalent in mainland China. However, a substantial proportion of antibiotics might have been prescribed without adequate indications. Antibiotics whose fetal safety has not been sufficiently illustrated were widely used in pregnant women.

Abstract Purpose To establish the distribution of diandric and digynic triploidy depending on gestational age. Methods 107 triploid samples tested prospectively in a single genetic department during a four-year period were analyzed for parental origin of triploidy by Quantitative Fluorescent Polymerase Chain Reaction (QF-PCR) (n=95) with the use of matching parental samples or by MS-MLPA (n=12), when parental samples were unavailable. Tested pregnancies were divided into three subgroups with regard to the gestational age at spontaneous pregnancy loss: <11 gestational weeks, 11–14 gestational weeks, and >14 gestational weeks. Results Diandric triploidy constituted overall 44.9% (46.5% in samples miscarried <11 gestational weeks, 64.3% in samples miscarried between 11 and 14 gestational weeks, and 27.8% in pregnancies which survived >14 gestational weeks). Conclusions The distribution of diandric and digynic triploidy depends on gestational age. The majority of diandric triploid pregnancies is lost in the first trimester of pregnancy. In the second trimester, diandric cases are at least twice less frequent than digynic ones.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the relationship between BMI and tooth decay in a population of Iranian children. In this cross-sectional descriptive/analytical study, 1482 children were selected from kindergartens and preschool centers in Kerman, Iran. The children underwent examination of deciduous teeth (using the dmft index) after determination of height and weight for calculation of BMI. The relationship between BMI (after adjustment for age) and dmft was determined using Poisson’s regression model. The mean of dmft in children with normal BMI was 1.5-fold that in subjects with extra body weight. Age had a significant effect on dmft. In addition, dmft was higher in boys compared to girls. The results of the present study showed that caries rate in the deciduous teeth of 3–6-year-old children decreases with an increase in body weight.

Background: Stillbirth contributes significantly to perinatal mortality. This study was conducted with aim to determine various factors associated with it and to define the causes of stillbirth according to relevant condition at birth.Materials and Methods :This is prospective cross-sectional study conducted in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Manipal Teaching Hospital from July 2015 to June 2017. All cases of stillbirth occurring during antenatal or intrapartum period after 28 weeks of gestation or fetus weighing 1000 grams or more were included. Detailed demographic parameters were noted. After delivery, fetus, placenta, umbilical cord and amniotic fluid were noted in detail. Data was entered in SPSS version 16 and analysis done.Results: The stillbirth rate was 22 per 1000 births. Low educational level of women, lack of antenatal care, multiparous status, gestational age less than 34 weeks, low birth weight and male gender of fetus were found to be significantly associated with stillbirths. The cause of fetal death could be identified according to relevant condition at death in 84% of cases. Only in 16%, the cause of stillbirth was not identified. Intrauterine growth restriction was the commonest cause of stillbirth (22%), followed by congenital anomalies (15%) and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (14%). Other causes were abruptio (7%), intrapartum asphyxia (7%) and rupture uterus (5%). Other minor causes were anemia, diabetes, cord prolapse and amniotic fluid abnormalities.Conclusion :Low level of education, lack of quality antenatal care, multiparity, low gestational age and birth weight and male sex of fetus were factors associated with stillbirth. Abstract Objective To determine the adequacy of compliance with antenatal care (ANC) by pregnant women in Peru and to identify the associated factors. Methods An analytical cross-sectional study of data from the 2019 Peruvian Demographic and Family Health Survey (Encuesta Demográfica y de Salud Familiar, ENDES, in Spanish) was conducted. The dependent variable was adequate compliance with ANC (provided by skilled health care professionals; first ANC visit during the first trimester of pregnancy; six or more ANC visits during pregnancy; ANC visits with appropriate content) by women aged 15 to 49 years in their last delivery within the five years prior to the survey. Crude and adjusted prevalence ratios and their 95% confidence intervals were calculated using a log-binomial regression model. Results A total of 18,386 women were analyzed, 35.0% of whom adequately complied with ANC. The lowest proportion of compliance was found with the content of ANC (42.6%). Sociodemographic factors and those related to pregnancy, such as being in the age groups of 20 to 34 years and 35 to 49 years, having secondary or higher education, belonging to a wealth quintile of the population other than the poorest, being from the Amazon region, not being of native ethnicity, having a second or third pregnancy, and having a desired pregnancy, increased the probability of presenting adequate compliance with ANC. Conclusion Only 3 out of 10 women in Peru showed adequate compliance with ANC. Compliance with the content of ANC must be improved, and strategies must be developed to increase the proportion of adequate compliance with ANC.

Introduction: Measurement of birth weight (BW), crown heel length (CHL), head circumference (HC) and chest circumference used to assess the intrauterine growth of a baby vary with altitude, race, gender, socio economic status, maternal size, and maternal diseases. The study aimed to construct centile charts for BW, CHL and HC for new born at different gestational ages in western Nepal. Methods:  This was a descriptive cross sectional study done over a period of 15 months in a tertiary care hospital of western Nepal. BW, length, HC and CC were measured within 12-24 hours of birth. Gestational age was estimated from first day of last menstrual period, maternal ultrasonology and New Ballard’s scoring system. Microsoft 2007 Excel and SPSS-16 was used for data analysis. Cole’s Lambda Mu Sigma method was used for constructing centile curves. Results: Out of 2000 babies analysed, 1910 samples were used to construct smoothed intrauterine growth curve of BW, CHL, and HC from 33-42 weeks of gestation. 57.35% (1147) were male, mean gestational age was 38.13 ±2.44 weeks, where 21.5% were preterm and 1.7% post term. The means of BW, CHL, HC and CC were 2744.78 gm, 47.80 cm, 33.18 cm, and 30.20 cm with standard deviations of 528.29, 3.124, 1.78, and 2.35 respectively. These data vary as compared to the Kathmandu data, in case of birth weight for 10th and 90th centiles, and at 90th centile in case of length. Conclusions: This necessitates the update in the existing growth charts and develop in different geographical regions of a country.

Introduction: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease which mainly attacks synovial membrane and causes systemic manifestation. During treatment, controlling disease activity is needed to prevent further complication. On the other hand, medications used in the treatment of RA may bring various side effects. It is important to evaluate side effects from the given therapy.Methods: This study aimed to evaluate response and side effects of therapy in RA patients. The samples were collected from 59 RA patients at Rheumatology Division of Outpatient Clinic in Department of Internal Medicine Dr. Soetomo General Hospital Surabaya in 2017. This study method was descriptive observational with cross sectional design using medical records.Results: Pain was reduced in 83.1% patients, Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) increased in 61.4% patients, and C-Reactive Protein (CRP) decreased in 50% patients. Based on the statistic analysis, ESR decreased significantly (p = 0.012) while CRP decreased not significantly (p = 0.415). The side effects were observed from clinical and laboratory data. Based on clinical symptoms, there were alopecia in 1.7% patient, dyspepsia in 78% patients, infection in 27.1% patients, and other symptoms including itchy skin, neuropathy, hyperuricemia, hyperkalemia and Acute Kidney Injury (AKI). Meanwhile, abnormalities in laboratory data include increased aspartate transaminase (AST) in 3.8% patients, increased alanine transaminase (ALT) in 26.1% patients, increased Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) in 7.9% patients, increased creatinine serum in 7.9% patients, decreased hemoglobin in 15.5% patients, and decreased leukocytes in 3.4% patients.Conclusion: Most patients had a good therapeutic response based on decreased pain, while ESR had a significant decrease and CRP did not have significant decrease.
