Background: Staphylococcus aureus is a bacterium that causes bacteremia in COVID-19 pneumonitis patients. S. aureus is responsible for 80% of suppurative disease, with the skin surface as its natural habitat. So, maintaining hand hygiene during a pandemic is very important. Currently, people prefer the use of practical hand sanitizers. Most hand sanitizers contain alcohol, which has the potential to irritate. Thus, the active substance of coriander seed extract is used as a substitute for alcohol. Objective: To determine the characteristics of the gel and the concentration of coriander seed extract which gave antibacterial effect against S. aureus. Methods: The resulting hand sanitizer gel was then tested for characteristics and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus by the Kirby-Bauer diffusion method and analyzed by the One Way Anova-LSD method. Result: The results showed that preparations with concentrations of F1(2%), F2(4%), and F3(6%) respectively had inhibition zones of 1.00 ± 0.82 mm, 5.00 ± 0.41 mm, and 5 .25 ± 1.26 mm. Conclusion: Formulas 2 and 3 were able to inhibit the growth of S. aureus with moderate inhibition category. The hand sanitizer gel meets the requirements for organoleptic tests, pH, homogeneity, dispersibility, and adhesion. However, the viscosity of the preparation did not meet the requirements. Daun Lidah mertua (Sansevieria trifasciata Prain) diketahui mengandung senyawa polifenol, flavonoid dan saponin yang merupakan agen antibakteri. Lidah mertua memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui konsentrasi ekstrak daun lidah mertua dalam sediaan gel yang memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terbesar dalam penurunan jumlah angka kuman. Ekstraksi daun lidah mertua menggunakan metode maserasi dengan pelarut etanol 96%. Variasi konsentrasi ekstrak daun lidah mertua dalam sediaan gel hand sanitizer yang digunakan yaitu F1 (10%), F2 (15%) dan F3 (20%). Na CMC digunakan sebagai gelling agent dalam formulasi. Sediaan gel hand sanitizer daun lidah mertua diuji aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Escherichia coli menggunakan metode difusi sumuran, sifat fisik (organoleptik, homogenitas, pH, viskositas, daya sebar dan daya lekat) serta penurunan jumlah angka kuman dengan metode swabbing. Hasil uji aktivitas antibakteri gel hand sanitizer ekstrak daun lidah mertua memiliki zona hambat bakteri terhadap Escherichia coli pada F1, F2 dan F3 berturut-turut sebesar 7,33 mm, 8,67 mm dan 9,75 mm. Hasil evaluasi sifat fisik gel daun lidah mertua memenuhi kriteria gel yang baik, namun memiliki daya lekat kurang 1 detik. Hasil penurunan jumlah angka kuman gel hand sanitizer daun lidah mertua paling besar pada F3 sebesar 52%. Namun, analisa statistik dengan Anova One Way menunjukkan bahwa F1 (32%), F2 (35%) dan F3 (52%) tidak menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan dalam penurunan jumlah angka kuman. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan gel hand sanitizer ekstrak daun lidah mertua memiliki kemampuan dalam menurunkan angka kuman dan dapat digunakan sebagai alternatif sebagai sediaan gel hand sanitizer.     Lidah Mertua leaves (Sansevieria trifasciata Prain) are known to contain polyphenols, flavonoids, and saponins which have antibacterial activity. There was a various concentration of Lidah Mertua leaves extract in gel hand sanitizer, these include F1 (10%), F2 (15%) and F3 (20%). Na CMC is used as a gelling agent in the formulation. The evaluation of the antibacterial activity of hand sanitizer gel leaves was performed against Escherichia coli using disc diffusion method, meanwhile physical properties (organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, dispersion and adhesion) and a decrease in the germ numbers were determined by swabbing method. The results of the antibacterial evaluation of gel hand sanitizer activity showed that lidah Mertua leaves extract had a bacterial inhibition zone against Escherichia coli in F1, F2 and F3 of 7.33 mm, 8.67 mm and 9.75 mm respectively. The results of the evaluation of the physical properties of the lidah mertua leaves extract showed that the gel met criteria of a good gel, but had adhesion less than 1 second. The highest activity in decreasing term number was shown in gel hand sanitizer of lidah mertua leaves extract at F3 which was 52%. However, statistical analysis using Anova One Way showed that F1 (32%), F2 (35%) and F3 (52%) did not show a significant difference in decreasing germ numbers. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the  hand sanitizer gel from the extract of lidah mertua leaves has the ability to reduce the number of germs and can be used as an alternative as a gel hand sanitizer dosage form

This study aims to determine the potential of cold plasma (cold plasma) as an antibacterial if combined with Parijoto (Medinilla speciosa) extract against the dominant bacteria in diabetic ulcer infection, namely Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus and Gram-negative bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa with a concentration of 25%, 50 %, 75%, and 100%. This study was an experimental test in vitro using the well diffusion method. The well diffusion method uses an MHA given a 5mm diameter and inserted a 100uL sample then incubates 35 ± 2 ° C for 16-18 hours. The results showed antibacterial activity from Cold Plasma with a 10 mm shot distance for 3 minutes with inhibitory zones against S. Aureus 3 mm and against P. aeruginosa 3.35 mm, a combination of Cold Plasma antibacterial activity with parijoto extract with a zone of inhibition of S. aureus 11.7 mm (25%), 14.1 (50%), 16.5 (75%), 17.1 (100%) and against P. aeruginosa 7.7 mm (25%), 9.3 mm (50%), 10.1 mm (75%), 11.7 (100%). the results of the Cold Plasma inhibition zone and Cold Plasma combination with parijoto extract 100% concentration of S. aureus were greater than the inhibition zone for P. aeruginosa. Cold Plasma combination inhibition zones with starch extracts against S. aureus compared to Vancomicin (VA) antibiotics with a 19.9 mm inhibition zone included in the intermediate category, Cold Plasma combination inhibition zone with parijoto juice against P. aeruginosa bacteria compared with Meropenem antibiotics ( MRP) with a 9.7mm inhibition zone included in the sensitive category

<p><em>Indonesia has various types of plants those have potential as medicine to overcome health problems in line with the expanding of traditional medicine industry. One example of plants from the Zingiberaceae family is Hedychium coronarium, which is not widely known by the community despite it has efficacy as an antibacterial which is not inferior to other Zingiberaceae family. The research was conducted to determine whether the Hedychium coronarium rhizome shown to have antibacterial activity against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, knowing antibacterial compound that contained in Hedychium coronarium rhizome, also knowing the most effective extraction method to take the antibacterial compound from Hedychium coronarium rhizome. The gandasuli rhizome was extracted by maceration and reflux with 96% ethanol. Antibacterial activity test carried out by the agar diffusion method, and the analysis of antibacterial compounds with bioautography, and the results are monitored with vanillin-sulfuric acid. Maceration and reflux extract at a concentration of 90% has antibacterial activity with inhibition zones, each for 8 and 10 mm against Escherichia coli as well as 9 and 10 mm against Staphylococcus aureus. Bioautography results show a positive effect on the appearance of vanillin-sulfuric acid. The antibacterial activity of three Cupressaceae plants (Thujaoccidentalis,ThujaorientalisandChamaecyparisobtusa) was tested against three bacteria using the agar diffusion method. The ether and ethylacetate fraction of crude methanol extract from the three plants showed potent antibacterial activity against the tested microorganisms. The result showed that Staphylococcus aureus revealed the most sensitivity among the tested bacteria. Thujaoccidentalisether fraction and Thujaorientalis hexane fraction exhibited the highest antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. E. coli was shown the highest MIC values compared to the other two tested bacteria, which indicates the lowest antibacterial activity against the bacterium. This study promises an interesting future for designing a potentially active antibacterial agent from the three Cupressaceae plants.

Aims: To evaluate the antibacterial activity of Artocarpus hirsutus mediated seed extract for nanoparticle synthesis. Background: Gastrointestinal bacteria are known for causing deadly infections in humans. They also possess multi-drug resistance and interfere with clinical treatments. Applied nanotechnology has been known to combat such infectious agents with little interference from their special attributes. Here we synthesize silver nanoparticles from Artocarpus hirsutus seed extract against two gastro-intestinal bacterial species: Enterobacter aerogenes and Listeria monocytogenes. Objective: To collect, dry, and process seeds of Artocarpus hirsutus for nanoparticle synthesis. To evaluate the morphological interaction of silver nanoparticles with bacteria. Methods: Artocarpus hirsutus seeds were collected and processed and further silver nanoparticles were synthesized by the co-precipitation method. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized using XRD, UV, FTIR, and SEM. These nanoparticles were employed to study the antibacterial activity of nanoparticles against Enterobacter aerogenes and Listeria monocytogenes using well diffusion method. Further, morphological interaction of silver nanoparticles on bacteria was studied using SEM. Result: Silver nanoparticles were synthesized using Artocarpus hirsutus seed extract and characterization studies confirmed that silver nanoparticles were spherical in shape with 25-40 nm size. Antibacterial study exhibited better activity against Enterobacter aerogenes with a maximum zone of inhibition than on Listeria monocytogenes. SEM micrographs indicated that Enterobacter aerogenes bacteria were more susceptible to silver nanoparticles due to the absence of cell wall. Also, the size and charge of silver nanoparticles enable easy penetration of the bacterial cell wall. Conclusion: In this study, silver nanoparticles were synthesized using the seed extract of Artocarpus hirsutus for the first time exploiting the fact that Moraceae species have high phytonutrient content which aided in nanoparticle synthesis. This nanoparticle can be employed for large scale synthesis which when coupled with the pharmaceutical industry can be used to overcome the problems associated with conventional antibiotics to treat gastrointestinal bacteria.

One of plants used by Indonesian people as a traditional medicine is saga plant (Abrus precatorius L.). This plant has medicinal properties as medication for thrush, cough and laryngitis. Chemical constituents contained in sage leaves which work as antibacterial are flavonoid and saponin. This study aims to determine the optimal concentration of saga leaves extract which can be formulated in a gel dosage form with qualified physical evaluation and has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. Saga leaves extract is prepared by maceration method using ethanol 70% as solvent, and then the extract obtained is preliminarily tested to see its antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus with agar diffusion method. Gel formulation for thrush is made with dispersion method in three formulas with variants of active substance concentration that is FI (1%), FII (3%) and FIII (5%). Gel preparation antibacterial activity test is conducted with agar diffusion method as a plate cylinder. Based on this research, it was found that the extract of saga leaves which is positively made is efficacious as antibacterial and can be formulated into a gel preparation for thrush with optimal concentration in F III (5%), this is indicated by widest diameter of the inhibition area against Staphylococus aureus bacteria

Objective: To isolate and characterize novel actinomycetes and to evaluate their antibacterial activity against drug-resistant pathogenic bacteriaMethods: In the present study, 19 soil samples were collected from different localities of Ad-Dawadmi, Saudi Arabia. Actinomycetes were isolated from these samples using serial dilution and plating method on Actinomycetes isolation agar supplemented with nalidixic acid and actidione to inhibit bacteria and fungi. Crude extracts of potential actinomycetes were produced by submerged fermentation. The antimicrobial activity of crude extracts of actinomycetes was tested against different bacteria using the agar well diffusion method. Characterization of the isolates was done by morphological, physiological and biochemical methods.Results: A total of 9 (47%) isolates of actinomycetes were isolated from 19 different soil samples tested. Among them, 4 (44%) isolates confirmed as Streptomyces sp. showed potential antimicrobial activity against one or more test organisms. Crude extracts were made from these 4 actinomycetes isolates(DOM1, DOM3, DP3, DP4)and tested for their antibacterial activities against 4 different clinical bacterial strains (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus). Crude extract from DP3 isolate showed highest antibacterial activity against all the four test organisms (28 mm, 21 mm, 20 mm and 18 mm) respectively and DP4 showed lowest antibacterial activity against all the four test organisms (14 mm, 12 mm, 0 mm, 6 mm) respectively. The highest zone of inhibition was shown by DP3 against Staphylococcus aureus (28 mm) and Escherichia coli was resistant for DP4. Most of the Inhibition zones produced by crude extracts showed significant differences when compared with control, tested against test organisms (P<0.05). Inhibition zones produced by DP3 and DOM1 against Staphylococcus aureus were 28 mm and 23 mm, respectively which were strong active when compared with control Ciprofloxacin (18 mm).Conclusion: Further studies for purification of bioactive metabolites and molecular characterization analysis of isolated Streptomyces sp. are in progress which would be helpful in discovering novel compounds of commercial value.

In the animals in general and nonhuman primates in particular self-medication has been widely reported; however, little is still known about the pharmacological activity of the extracts present in their daily diet. Thein vitroantibacterial activity of the stem, root bark, and leaf extracts of three selected plants on which yellow baboons feed in an unusual manner in Mikumi National Park, Tanzania, was evaluated. Crude plant extracts were tested against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria of medical and veterinary importance employing a modified agar well diffusion method and Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) technique. The lowest MIC value for Gram positive strains was 0.31 mg/ml demonstrated byCassia abbreviatassp.abbreviataagainstStaphylococcus aureus(ATCC 25923). The highest susceptibility to the ethanol plant extracts was exhibited byPseudomonas aeruginosa,Escherichia coli,andStaphylococcus aureus,examples of microbes that affect both human and nonhuman primates. These findings demonstrate that the plant extracts fromSterculia africana,Acacia sieberiana,andCassia abbreviatassp.abbreviatahave antibacterial activity and may be used as feed for their prophylactic benefits. Remarkably, the lowest MIC of 0.16 mg/ml was only 16-fold weaker than Gentamicin, a standard drug.

The approach towards green synthetic methods has been enormously encouraged to synthesise nanoparticles for various uses. In this study, the one-pot synthetic method was adapted to synthesise silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Melastoma malabathricum (M. malabathricum) aqueous extract. The formation of AgNPs was confirmed by observing the results obtained by optical characterisation methods. The plasma resonance band along with shoulder at 375 nm and 595 nm, respectively, in Uv-Visible spectra supported the conversion of silver (Ag) to AgNPs reduced by functional groups present in the plant extract. The size of AgNPs was 31 nm and cubic in shape as confirmed by X-ray diffractometry (XRD) using Scherer equation. X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) results also confirmed the presence of silver. The FTIR characterisation confirmed the presence of reducing functional groups. The antibacterial activity of AgNPs against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) was carried out by disc diffusion method with increasing concentration of AgNPs, and enhanced inhibition zone was observed. The AgNPs obtained can be further explored against different bacterial strains and can a potential candidate as an antibacterial agent using the green synthetic approach.

<p>Penelitian ini merupakan lanjutan dari penelitian sebelumnya tentang produksi asam galat dari limbah kulit buah lokal di Lombok. Limbah kulit buah lokal yang digunakan yaitu kulit buah kepundung (<em>Baccaurea racemosa</em> Muell.Arg), kulit buah juwet (<em>Syzygium cumini</em>), dan kulit buah manggis (<em>Garcinia mangostana</em>). Pada penelitian ini dilakukan pengujian asam galat yang dihasilkan, untuk mengetahui aktivitas antioksidan dan antibakteri. Pengujian sifat antioksidan dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode DPPH, sedangkan aktivitas antibakteri diuji dengan menggunakan metode difusi agar pada bakteri <em>Escherichia coli</em> dan <em>Staphylococcus aureus</em>. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa asam galat dari ketiga kulit buah memiliki aktivitas antioksidan. Asam galat dari kulit buah kepundung, kulit buah juwet dan kulit buah manggis memiliki IC<sub>50</sub> masing-masing sebesar 5.95; 5,96; dan 5,92 ppm. Berbeda dengan kemampuan sebagai antioksidan, asam galat resistan terhadap bakteri <em>Escherichia coli</em> dan <em>Staphylococcus aureus </em>yang menunjukkan bahwa asam galat tidak memiliki aktivitas sebagai antibakteri.</p><p><strong>Antibacterial and antioxidant activity of gallic acid from peel local fruit which produced by tannase. </strong>This research is a continuation of the previous research about the gallic acid production from peel fruit local in Lombok. The local fruit waste<em> </em>used<em> </em>are<em> kepundung rind (Baccaurea racemosa</em> Muell.Arg)<em>, juwet rind </em>(<em>Syzygium cumini</em>) <em>and mangosteen rind </em>(<em>Garcinia mangostana</em>)<em>. </em>In this research, the produced Gallic acid was tested to determine its antioxidant and antibacterial activity. The antioxidant test conducted by DPPH method, meanwhile, the antibacterial activity was performed by agar diffusion method to bacteria <em>Escherichia coli</em> and <em>Staphylococcus aureus</em>. The results show that the produce gallic acid from those three rind provide antioxidant activity. Gallic acid from kepundung rind, juwet rind, and mangosteen rind have IC<sub>50</sub> values of 5,95; 5,96; and 5,92,  respectively. Gallic acid not showed inhibitory actions against the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. This result show that gallic acid from local fruit waste did not provide an antibacterial activity.</p>
