The research aimed to identify the influence of supervisory styles on supervision outcome among undergraduate trainee counsellors. This research was quantitative with correlational research design in order to identify the influence and relationship between independent and dependent variables among trainee counsellors. 100 respondents from two (2) public universities in Malaysia were recruited. Stratified random sampling technique was utilized to select the respondent and proportional stratification was used to determine the sample size of each stratum. Supervisory Styles Inventory (SSI) and Supervisory Satisfaction Questionnaire (SSQ) was the instrument used in this study. The System Approach to Supervision (SAS) Model become underlying theory in this research. The results of the study were analysed by using Pearson’s product-moment Coefficients and Multiple Regression. Based on the findings, the supervisory styles showed that there was significant relationship with supervision outcome (r= 0.49, p< 0.05). Three of supervisory styles which were attractive (r= 0.48, p< 0.05), interpersonally sensitive (r= 0.48, p< 0.05) and task-oriented (r= 0.42, p< 0.05). The supervisory styles also showed there was significant influence with supervision outcome. Among the three supervisory styles, attractive and interpersonally sensitive was the most influence on supervision outcome (R2=0.23, Adjusted R2=0.22, F(1, 98) = 29.05, p<0.05). The findings of this study perhaps could expand knowledge and understanding on the individual differences to supervision field. Supervisors could examine and reflect upon their styles based on theoretical framework provided and can restructure the styles. Lastly, it also can improve the quality and effectiveness of supervision for both supervisor and supervisee.

The study aims to investigate the influence of the supervisory styles on supervision outcome among undergraduate counsellor trainees. Empirical gap and methodological gap are delivered through this study by considering Malaysian context as the background of the study and taking undergraduate population with heterogeneous sample involved. System Approach to Supervision (SAS) Model serves as the basis to carry out the study. This study is quantitative in nature with correlational research design to study both the influence and relationship between supervisory styles and supervision outcome (counsellor trainees’ satisfaction). The pilot study involved 30 students from the Bachelor of Counselling (Honors) program at UNIMAS who are undergoing their practicum training. Stratified random sampling technique is utilized to select the respondents. The Supervisory Style Inventory (SSI) instrument measures three subscales (attractive, interpersonally-sensitive and task-oriented style). The three subscales have reported high reliability analysis. The result showed that SSI has a high reliability analysis ranging from α = 0.868 to α = 0.924. The reliability values of the three subscales are reported respectively as follows: (i)attractive at α = 0.92; (ii) interpersonally-sensitive α = 0.87; and (iii) task-oriented α = 0.92. The SSI instrument is reliable for measuring the supervisory styles of supervisors towards supervisees. Implications of the findings for counsellors, supervisors, trainee counsellors and area for future research are discussed with regard to attractive, interpersonally-sensitive and task-oriented.    Keywords: Reliability; supervisory styles inventory; trainee counsellors; preliminary study

Research on human–human communication has identified that people apply different constraints in communication with each other. Application of such constraints as social concerns over feeling, imposition, and disapproval and task concerns over clarity and effectiveness has also been found to be influenced by people's self-construal, being independent or interdependent. Do these constraints and individual difference in self-construal matter in communication with humanoid robots? This study uses the theoretical framework of communication constraints to compare whether or not people of different self-construals apply social-oriented and task-oriented constraints differently to humanoid social robot targets. A total of 161 students from the University of Hawaii at Manoa participated in the study. The participants completed a questionnaire that determined their concern for the five communication constraints (feelings, nonimposition, disapproval, clarity, and effectiveness) in situations involving robots, as well as scales measuring self-construal. The results show interdependent self-construal related significantly with the concerns over avoiding hurting the humanoid's feelings, avoiding inconveniencing the humanoid robot, and avoiding being disliked by the humanoid robot. On the other hand, independent self-construal related significantly with the concern over clarity in communicating with the humanoid robot. However, self-construal did not influence one's concern of effectiveness (a task-oriented constraint) in interaction with humanoid robots. The results of the research offer new insight into the linkage between self-construal, a cultural concept at the individual level, and how human–robot communication is psychologically structured and constrained.

Burhān al-Dīn al-Zarnūjī in his treatise Ta'līm al-Muta'allim Ṭorīq al-Ta'allum proposed that the academic achievement has six things dependency: ingenious acumen, fervent desire, patience, sufficent sustenance, guidance of a teacher, and length of time. In other side, Paul Stoltz in his book Adversity Quotient: Turning Obstacles Into Opportunities coined adversity quotient term as a score that measures the ability of a person to deal with adversities in his or her life. Hence, adversity quotient is commonly known as the science of patience. Based on this perspective, we was empirically tested students scientific literacy through correlational research. In particular, first adversity quotient was measured with Adversity Response Profile (ARP) includes four dimensions that are characterized as control, ownership, reach, and endurance. Second, scientific literacy was tested with Scientific Literacy Test (SLT) that focused on three competencies. Third, we used Pearson r to elaborate correlation of scientific literacy with adversity quotient. The participants of the study were 50 students in Kabupaten Kudus choosen by purposive sampling technique. The findings suggest that it is important to facilitate students’ adversity quotient to guide them on achieving scientific literacy.
