Moringa is used for human and animal consumption due to its high content of proteins, vitamins and minerals. The present study analyzed and evaluated the effectiveness of Azospirillum spp. over the nutritional content of moringa (Moringa oleifera Lam.) under nursery conditions. The experimental design consisted of four treatments with six repetitions in complete blocks at random, which consisted of the inoculation at 0.5, 1 and 1.5 mL of suspension with 9.8 × 105 CFU mL-1 of Azospirillum spp. The study variables: biomass, protein, macro (P, K. Ca and Mg) and micronutriments (Na, Fe, Cu and Mn) in leaves and stems were determined 70 days after sowing. The analysis of variance showed signif icant statistical differences between treatments only for the variables: potassium content in leaves and calcium content, iron and sodium in stem. According to the comparison of means (P ≤ 0.05) the best treatments were those that received 0.5 and 1 mL of suspension. The inoculation of Azospirillum, failed to increase the dry weight and protein contents; however, the highest values (30.2% crude protein) were associated with its application. The absence of significant effects in the other variables evaluated is associated with inoculum concentration, however, higher values are shown in the nutrient contents in relation to results reported in other research.

Abstract. Ridwan, Witjaksono. 2020. Induction of autotetraploid Moringa plant (Moringa oleifera) using oryzalin. Biodiversitas 21: 4086-4093. Moringa (Moringa oleifera Lam.) is a plant with high nutritional content and has been widely used as a vegetable and health food ingredient, but its utilization and productivity have not been optimal. Increasing plant productivity can be done by increasing biomass which can be obtained through increasing plant ploidy. This study aims at obtaining tetraploid Moringa by induction using oryzalin compound. Moringa germinating seeds were soaked in oryzalin water solutions for 1, 3, and 5 days with concentrations of 0 µM (control), 15 µM, 30 µM, 60 µM, and 120 µM with 10 seeds for each treatment. We have recovered two tetraploid Moringa plants and two chimeric plants of diploid and tetraploid genomes. Immersing germinating seeds for 1 day in 15 or 60 µM oryzalin concentration effectively induced autopolyploid in Moringa. Tetraploid plants exhibit typical morphological characteristics of a tetraploid, such as low stomata density, larger stomata size, and larger leaflet size compared to the diploid counterpart. The induced tetraploid plants have significantly increased protein, fat, and calcium content compared to the diploid counterpart emphasizing their values as functional food. This polyploidy induction method can be used to produce Moringa tetraploid lines from various accessions in the attempts of developing and selecting high yielding tetraploid Moringa cultivars.

The aimed of this study was to determine the effect of Moringa Leaf Flour (MLF) on chicken and duckmeat processed quality formed nugget as fortification. Duck meat has advantages with mineral content, especially iron, about 50% of the daily needs for adult’s body compared to chicken meat which is only9%. Duck meat also contains high levels of vitamins B, C and antioxidants, but chicken meat neither. This study was conducted in two stages, the first was nugget experiment with chicken meat, and thesecond stages with duck meat. The meat used were ground with flour and seasoning. The variablesmeasured were the nutritional content which includes crude protein and fat, also cholesterol total, theother variables were sensory evaluation which include scale of taste, texture and color. This study usedcompletely randomized design with 4 treatments addition of MLF (0.0%; 0.5%; 1.0% and 1.5%), eachtreatments replicated 5 times. The result show that the more addition of MLF will increased CrudeProtein and highly significant decreased crude fat and cholesterol total. In the other hand, addition ofMLF was highly significant lowering the taste, texture and color of nugget, but still in acceptable range.

SummaryNine strains of Rhizobium sp. were studied in vivo for their nodulation capacity, leghaemoglobin content, grain yield, crude protein and 16 amino acids content, in the chick pea variety C 235 grown on a calcareous saline alkali soil. There was no significant correlation between grain yield and number of nodules (r = 0·37) or dry weight of nodules (r = 0·29), but grain yield was significantly correlated with leghaemoglobin content of nodules (r = 0·95). Of the 16 amino acids analysed in seed samples, aspartic, glutamic, proline and histidine were greatest with strain H 45; glycine, leucine and arginine with strain F 6; norleucine, tyrosine and phenylalanine with strain KG 38; and alanine and valine were greatest with strain KG 41. Strain KG 38 led to significantly higher grain yield than the other strains.

Abstract  Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera Lam) is one of the potential local feed ingredients of broiler rations due to its nutrient contents such as carbohydrate (57,01%), crude protein (30,30%), crude fat (2,74%) as well as a source of vitamin C, carotenoids and flavonoids. This study aimed to determine the effect of using different levels of Moringa oleifera Lam leaf meal (MOLM) in basal ration on plasma metabolites, including total cholesterol (TCHO), triglycerides (TG), glucose (GLU), and total protein (TP). The research design of this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments and five replications. The treatments were 4 levels of MOLM (0%, 5%, 10% and 15%), in basal ration. The parameters measured were TCHO, TG, Glu, and TP of in blood plasma. The results showed that inclusion of MOLM up to 15% of in basal ration very significantly (P<0.01) lowering levels TG and decreasing Glu. However, the inclusion of MOLM had no effect (P>0.05) on TCHO and TP. It is concluded that moringa leaf flour addition to the basal ration up to 15% could be used to decrease plasma metabolites especially TG and GLU in broiler chickens.
