In laboratory conditions, a screening of 27 new aboriginal strains of bacteria from the Bioresource collection of the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution VNIIBZR "State collection of entomoacariphages and microorganisms" was carried out. As a result of the research, 6 new strains of bacteria with high and 2 strains with medium antagonistic activity were identified, which will be further considered for the next stage of research.

The publication proposes to discuss the problem of teaching children of immigrants who have arrived in our country and need to adapt to the new social, linguistic and cultural environment. The principles underlying the organization of education for children of immigrants in the Russian Federation, and the conditions for their education in educational institutions of our country, which were formulated at a meeting of the Council under the President of the Russian Federation for Interethnic Relations on March 30, 2021, are given. The content of the state order of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation to the Federal State the budgetary scientific institution “Institute of Education Development Strategy of the Russian Academy of Education” to study the difficulties faced by children of immigrants in the process of adaptation. The result of the study should be the creation of a set of guidelines for teachers organizing the work of classes in which children of immigrants study.

Bacterial strains with inhibitory effect on Salmonella Hartford, Listeria monocytogenes, Yersinia enterocolitica, and Escherichia coli, respectively, were isolated. Out of the 64 bacteria originated from food processing environments, 20 could inhibit at least one of the tested pathogens, and it was proved that growth decline of the pathogenic bacteria was more remarkable by co-culturing than by using cell-free supernatants of the isolates. Seven different genera (Pseudomonas, Bacillus, Paenibacillus, Macrococcus, Staphylococcus, Serratia, and Rothia) reduced the pathogens’ growth during the time period of analysis, and the strongest inhibitory effect was observed after 24 h between 15 and 30 °C. Sensitivity of the tested human pathogenic bacteria against the inhibitory strains was distinct, as Y. enterocolitica could be inhibited by numerous isolates, while S. Hartford proved to be the most resistant. Our results reveal that the isolated bacteria or their excreted metabolites could hinder pathogen growth when used in sufficient quantities.

The essential oils from six Himalayan Nepeta species, viz. Nepeta leucophylla Benth., Nepeta discolor Royle ex Benth., Nepeta govaniana Benth., Nepeta clarkei Hook f., Nepeta elliptica Royle ex Benth. and Nepeta erecta Benth., were tested for their in vitro antimicrobial activity against six pathogenic bacterial and two fungal strains. The results showed that Pseudomonas aeruginosa was the most sensitive strain tested to the essential oils of Nepeta species. The essential oils of N. elliptica and N. erecta exhibited the highest activity against P. aeruginosa, followed by the essential oils of N. leucophylla and N. clarkei. The essential oils from N. elliptica and N. erecta were also found to be very effective against Serratia marcescens; while the essential oil from N. leucophylla displayed significant activity against Proteus vulgaris and Staphylococcus aureus. Other bacterial strains displayed variable degree of susceptibility against one or more of the tested essential oils. The essential oil from N. leucophylla also showed the highest antifungal activity against both tested fungal strains, viz. Candida albicans and Trichophyton rubrum, followed by the essential oils from N. clarkei, N. govaniana and N. erecta. Iridodial derivatives, viz. iridodial ?-monoenol acetate (25.4 %), dihydroiridodial diacetate (18.2 %) and iridodial dienol diacetate (7.8 %) were identified as the major constituents of N. leucophylla, while the essential oils from N. elliptica and N. erecta were dominated by (7R)-trans, trans nepetalactone (83.4 %) and isoiridomyrmecin (66.7 %), respectively. The essential oil of N. discolor was characterized by 1,8-cineole (25.5 %) and ?-caryophyllene (18.6 %), while N. clarkei was dominated by ?-sesquiphellandrene (22.0 %) and germacrene D (13.0 %). Isoiridomyrmecin (35.2 %) and pregeijerene (20.7 %) were identified as the major constituents of N. govaniana. In general the Nepeta species containing constituents with an iridoid or lactone skeleton were found to have the greater antagonistic activity against most of the microbial strains as compared to those containing regular terpene constituents.


This article reflects the results of a study on the selection of promising lactobacilli antagonistic to Campilobacter jejuni, a strain that is the most common and more pathogenic for humans, carried out as part of a project to scientifically substantiate the use of new technologies in poultry feeding using special probiotic strains that increase productivity and obtaining poultry products of improved quality with the properties of functional food products. During the study, strains of lactic acid bacteria were obtained. The cultivation of strains of Lactobacillus crispatus, Lactobacillus gasseri, Lactobacillus fermentum, Lactobacillus reuteri, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus plantarum was carried out on liquid and agarized nutrient media MRS at 370С for 24 hours. In vitro antagonistic studies were performed using the two-way antagonistic method on a wide range of indicator crops. Since there is evidence of a specific mechanism for the manifestation of the antagonistic activity of lactobacilli to gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, we used test strains of both groups of bacteria. The antagonistic activity of the studied cultures against pathogenic and opportunistic bacteria was determined by the zone of growth inhibition of indicator strains around the colonies of individual strains of lactobacilli and their consortium (in mm). Priority clinical isolates isolated from birds with intestinal infections were used as indicator cultures: Proteus vulgaris, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus, Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter jejuni ATCC strains 33560. During the study, most bacterial strains of the genus Lactobacillus were highly antagonistic its activity against indicator strains. The most sensitive to the inhibitory effect of lactobacilli were E. coli, Campylobacter jejuni, S. typhimurium and P. vulgaris. The research results showed that the strain L.plantarum ATCC 8014 exhibits a more pronounced antagonistic activity than other strains of lactobacilli.

The commercial production of mushrooms generates a co-product, a virtually inexhaustible supply of spent mushroom substrate (SMS). It represents an ideal growth medium for plants and plant disease suppressive quality. Here we discussed about the contaminated microbial flora of SMS, potential antifungal and plant growth promoting activities, the results of these findings were also discussed in relation to the usage of SMS as a potential product for organic farming. SMS contained moisture content 72%, EC 1.75 mmho.cm−1 and had pH of 6.1. The cellulose and hemicellulose content of paddy straw substrate were 30.25%, 23.18% and 15.31% dry weight respectively. Growth in terms of root and shoot weight of the seedlings of green gram, black gram, tomato and chili were significantly higher when grown in 60% SMS amended soil. Spent mushroom compost from Pleurotus eous used in this study harbored bacterial population including, Bacillus sp., Clostridium sp., Pseudomonas sp. and E. coli. Bacterial isolate B1 was identified as Bacillus sp., isolate B2 was identified as Clostridium sp., isolate B3 as Pseudomonas sp. and B4 as Escherichia coli. These bacterial strains showed significant antagonistic activity against soil borne pathogenic fungi viz., Fusarium sp., Alternaria sp., Phytophthora sp. and Aspergillus sp.

In the food industry, food preservation techniques that do not use chemical products are becoming more common. Therefore, the aim of this research was to evaluate the antagonistic activity (antibiosis) of lactic-acid bacterial strains against pathogenic microorganisms. Lactic-acid bacterial strains were isolated from layered cheese and a commercial product (yogurt); and the same was done with pathogenic bacteria solely from layered cheese. The lactic-acid bacterial strains were identified as species from the Lactobacilli family, while the pathogenic bacteria from layered cheese were identified as Micrococcaceae family species (Staphylococcus aureus). Subsequently, in the same culture medium, bacteria of each species were sowed in order to determine the inhibitory activity ability of the Lactic Acid Bacteria (BAL) As a result, the highly antagonistic activity of the Lactobacilli (inhibition halos were larger than 0.5 centimeters in diameter) against isolated pathogenic microorganisms was demonstrated.
