Introduction: The novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has caused the COVID-19 pandemic which started in 2020. This resulted in a disruption to educational activities across the globe. Dental education, in particular, was affected because of its vocational nature where learners come into close contact with patients when performing dental procedures. Methods: This is a narrative review with no research data analysis involved. Results: Social distancing measures introduced to curb the spread of the infection revolutionised the advancement of online education as the virtual environment is a safer place to conduct teaching compared to face-to-face teaching. In this article, we share our experience at the National Dental Centre Singapore (NDCS) in ensuring the safety of our faculty and learners when conducting didactic and clinical education during the pandemic. Didactic lectures were conducted in the virtual environment via synchronous and non-synchronous teaching. Essential clinical education was conducted in small groups with safe management measures in place. In addition, we provide guidelines to highlight the importance of meticulous planning, thorough preparation, and seamless delivery in conducting effective synchronous teaching. Conclusion: Safe management measures put in place to ensure the well-being of our faculty and learners can ensure dental education continuity during the pandemic.

Asymptomatic/mildly symptomatic coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients produce a considerable amount of virus and transmit severe acute respiratory syndrome virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) through close contact. Preventing in-hospital transmission of SARS-CoV-2 is challenging, since symptom-based screening protocols may miss asymptomatic/mildly symptomatic patients. In particular, dental healthcare workers (HCWs) are at high risk of exposure, as face-to-face contact and exposure to oral secretions is unavoidable. We report exposure of HCWs during dental procedures on a mild symptomatic COVID-19 patient. A 32-year-old male visited a dental clinic at a tertiary care hospital. He experienced mild cough, which started three days before the dental visit, but did not report his symptom during the entrance screening. He underwent several dental procedures and imaging for orthognathic surgery without wearing a mask. Seven HCWs were closely exposed to the patient during dental procedures that could have generated droplets and aerosols. One HCW had close contact with the patient during radiologic exams, and seven HCWs had casual contact. All HCWs wore particulate filtering respirators with 94% filter capacity and gloves, but none wore eye protection or gowns. The next day, the patient experienced dysgeusia and was diagnosed with COVID-19 with high viral load. All HCWs who had close contact with the patient were quarantined for 14 days, and polymerase chain reaction and antibody tests for SARS-CoV-2 were negative. This exposure event suggests the protective effect of particulate filtering respirators in dental clinics. The recommendations of different levels of personal protective equipment (PPE) for dental HCWs according to the procedure types should be established according to the planned procedure, the risk of COVID-19 infection of the patient, and the outbreak situation of the community.

The covid-19 pandemic forced numerous educational institutions to deliver online learning to students. However, nonformal school at prison face a difficult choice as greater access to advanced technologies in prison is security breaches. The majority of incarcerated students in formal and nonformal school in the prison are cut off from the internet and the options for distance learning are limited. On the other hand, many volunteer teachers at prison schools are not allowed to teach by face-to-face methods during the pandemic. This study uncovered the possibility of nonformal school at Serang prison to offer online learning by collaborating with university. However, the online learning program and curriculum is modified to meet the current needs of students and condition. Therefore, the online education programs provide various materials of personal and social skills to the incarcerated students. These programs are important for mental and personal well-being of incarcerated students during ‘lockdown’ or limited access situation in prison. The accessibility to online learning education for incarcerated students in prison-based schools will transform the Indonesian corrections system in the future. For educational purpose, though, prisons that offer educational services such as Equivalency Programs, need to provide the IT facilities for the incarcerated students to access their education. By offering access to education, it will give young inmates the opportunity to build a better life after release.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP), limiting face-to-face interaction is one of the best strategies for reducing the spread of COVID-19. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has driven the demand for workgroup application solutions to reduce the risk of cross-infection caused by close contact. This study explores the effects of workgroup negative functions (WNF) on work well-being (WWB) through job stress (JST) from the perspective of the mobile community. The data of participants from different workgroups were collected during the COVID-19 outbreak. The results showed that (1) the workgroup negative functions (WNF) positively affects the job stress (JST); (2) the job stress (JST) negatively affects the work well-being (WWB); (3) the workgroup negative functions (WNF) directly has no significant effects on the work well-being (WWB).

Because of the increasing number of transgender people requesting speech-language pathology services, because having gender-incongruent voice and communication has major negative impacts on an individual's social participation and well-being, and because voice and communication training is supported by an improving evidence-base, it is becoming more common for universities to include transgender-specific theoretical and clinical components in their speech-language pathology programs. This paper describes the theoretical and clinical education provided to speech-language pathology students at La Trobe University in Australia, with a particular focus on the voice and communication training program offered by the La Trobe Communication Clinic. Further research is required to determine the outcomes of the clinic's training program in terms of student confidence and competence as well as the effectiveness of training for transgender clients.

ABSTRACT Since the outbreak of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), numerous restrictive measures have been adopted by governments of different countries. The return to elective dental care in Brazil is a reality even during the COVID-19 pandemic. During restorative dental procedures, the dental professional requires close contact with the patient, being exposed to contaminated saliva and fluids. In addition, transmission of COVID-19 by the generation of aerosol produced by dental handipieces may be possible. Thus, the dental staff must know how to act during restorative dental procedures, putting into practice the correct clinical protocols to avoid cross-contamination and COVID-19 spread. The purpose of this article is to review the literature on the biosafety practices especially in the context of restorative dental procedures in times of COVID-19.

Currently, the 2019 Coronavirus Disease pandemic has caused serious damage to health throughout the world. Its contagious capacity has forced the governments of the world to decree isolation and quarantine to try to control the pandemic. The consequences that it leaves in all sectors of society have been disastrous. However, technological advances have allowed people to continue their different activities to some extent while maintaining isolation. Universities have great penetration in the use of technology, but they have also been severely affected. To give continuity to education, universities have been forced to move to an educational model based on synchronous encounters, but they have maintained the methodology of a face-to-face educational model, what has caused several problems in the learning of students. This work proposes the transition to a hybrid educational model, provided that this transition is supported by data analysis to identify the new needs of students. The knowledge obtained is contrasted with the performance presented by the students in the face-to-face modality and the necessary parameters for the transition to this modality are clearly established. In addition, the guidelines and methodology of online education are considered in order to take advantage of the best of both modalities and guarantee learning.

Concern over the well-being of marine mammals at sea has focused on intentional harvests, both in terms of individual welfare and population sustainability. Unintentional mortalities from fishing gear entanglement are primarily seen as a risk to population viability. Additionally, larger whales breaking free of, and subsequently carrying, fixed trap and net gear are subject to a very slow demise, averaging 6 months in the case of the North Atlantic right whale (Eubalaena glacialis). Chronic cases can involve impaired foraging, increased drag, infection, hemorrhage, and severe tissue damage. The individual suffering of these cases appears to be extreme. Thus management measures should go beyond legally mandated conservation measures to include avoidance of such scenarios. Seafood consumers could succeed, where laws have failed, to demand fishing practices that do not kill whales in this manner. The effective absence of such demands would seem to reflect the cryptic nature of these cases to most consumers.

We live in a society in which mobile and digital technologies are increasingly present in our daily lives and we cannot limit ourselves to knowing how to use them. It is important to know how to adapt them, personalize them and program them, if necessary, to solve our problems. Computational thinking is understood as the human ability to teach, humans or machines, to solve problems with the fundamentals of computing. Its development has gained space in education, formal and non-formal, through face-to-face practices. With the pandemic, the challenge arises to develop this skill with young people from high school in a public educational institution through online practices. In this article, we discuss the didactic design, based on the principles of online education, created for the development of computational thinking with online practices. The preliminary results indicate the feasibility of developing computational thinking from the perspective of online education.

Virtual reality (VR) has potential applications for promoting physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional well-being for users of all ages. The ability for individuals to develop a sense of being physically located in the virtual environment, referred to as spatial presence, is often an essential component of successful VR applications. Thus, it is necessary to understand the psychological aspects of the spatial presence process and identify methods of measuring presence formation and maintenance. This in-progress study addresses gaps in the spatial presence literature through an empirical evaluation of a conceptual model of spatial presence, which emphasizes users’ characteristics and abilities. Age will serve as a proxy for changes in a variety of presence-relevant cognitive and perceptual abilities. The results will have implications for the design of VR systems and applications and for selecting individuals best-suited for these applications.
