Karangasem is one of the regencies in Bali Province that has potential in the agricultural sector, in addition to Tabanan Regency. Contribution of the agricultural sector of Karangasem Regency amounted to 14.74% of the GDP of Bali Province. Large potential of the agricultural sector can also be seen from the livelihoods of the population, where majority (50.61%) work as farmers (Statistics of Bali Province, 2017). In November 2017, Mount Agung erupted, impacted the development of sectors in Karangasem Regency, including the agricultural sector. This research is intended to determine the competitiveness of the agricultural sector (especially the food crop subsector) and the planning model of agricultural areas in the regency. Location selection is done purposively with the consideration that it has the lowest economic growth rate after Jembrana Regency and has experienced Mount Agung eruption in 2017. Research method used are Shift Share Analysis and Dynamic Modeling. Especially for Dynamic Modeling, an analysis of economic aspects was carried out. Results shows that agricultural sector in Karangasem Regency can still compete with other regions in Bali Province. The agricultural sector, especially paddy fields in the last five years (in 2012-2017), was still able to contribute to the increase of the regency's Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) and community income if the agricultural area management model is implemented in an integrated manner between farmers, Village Credit Institutions, and local customary villages.

Rural areas both in Russia and Jordan are characterized by the lack of job places and relatively low opportunities for female and youth labor. The situation is worsened by the decrease in the efficiency of the agricultural production in general. Institutional and technological transformations are required to improve the efficiency of the agricultural sector which will inevitably be accompanied by the expansion of the employment. The purpose of the research is to analyze socio-economic aspects of agricultural sectors of Russia and Jordan and to develop proposals for the management of labor resources with the focus on women employment. Research methods consist of comparative analysis of socio-economic development of agricultural areas on the basis of statistical data for Russia and Jordan as well as SWOT analysis. It is recommended to launch a national project on agricultural development in Jordan, as in Russia, with specific country targets and similar objectives pointed out in the study.

Male outmigration from rural, primary agricultural areas and the globalization of agri-food systems have both been linked to a significant increase in women’s work and responsibilities in agriculture, a phenomenon referred to as the ‘feminization of agriculture’. While the term has been broadly used to bring attention to the increasing number of women, relative to men, in agricultural employment, little attention has been paid to what the ‘feminization of agriculture’ means for women’s empowerment and their roles in agriculture more generally. Similarly, there is no clear understanding of how this will impact the agricultural sector and what the consequences for food and water security are. This chapter reviews the global evidence surrounding the “feminization of agriculture” and provides a critical discussion of the implications for women’s empowerment and for food and water security.

Less favoured area (LFA) payments and organic farming (OF) payments represent a third of all public funding available for RDP 2007–2013 in Latvia and are used by about two- thirds of all farms. The aim of the study is to assess the economic impact of LFA and OF payments. The data from Rural Support Service, FADN and statistics of agricultural sector were used to conduct the study. A group of farms receiving support payments was compared with a group without this kind of support, in order to evaluate the impact of support payments. The results show that LFA payments have facilitated a significant income growth, especially for small farms. They have also contributed to more intense use of the land. Since OF support has not contributed enough to the agricultural production, direct payments to production will increase economic impact of support payments.

Vegetable production, including that of chillies, plays an important role in agricultural sector and rural economic development worldwide. This is because of greater farm productivity with regard to vegetables than cereal and staple crops. This paper analyses the impact of seed technology development on the economic aspects of chilli production in Central Java. Particular attention is paid to improved varieties of chilli. Potential consequences of seed technology development are discussed. Data of this study are compiled from surveys conducted in three selected chilli producing regions in 2010-2012. The results show that the major varieties of chilli grown by surveyed farmers are grouped into three broad types: hybrids, local and improved open pollinated varieties. The chilli varieties farmers selected varied according to location and cropping season. In the dry season, farmers grew similar proportions of hybrid, local, and open pollinated types. Nevertheless, there were differences among the survey sites. Farmers grew different varieties to exploit seasonal microclimates and market preferences. Mostly, farmers selected varieties for economic motives. The consequence of growing hybrids was less use of agrochemicals, particularly pesticides, than for other varieties. Overall, they show the best economic performance in the study site. Development of seed technology should consider agro-ecological and economic aspects to obtain better outcomes. Private sector and national research institutions need to collaborate more to utilise available genetic resources to produce better varieties of chilli.

The purpose of this study was to obtain empirical data on product effectiveness as a result of developing multimedia-based martial arts injury models to increase the knowledge of trainers and athletes in handling injuries. The research method used is quantitative. As the results, each coach and athlete can understand the handling of injuries that occur so that athletes who experience injuries do not experience mismanagement which can result in recurring injuries or decreased the performance of athletes. It can be concluded that athletes or coaches can collaborate with physiotherapists in determining the exercises that are appropriate to the strand and type of injury.
