Some have argued that having students conduct rigorous replications of published studies would provide benefits to both psychological science and to the students themselves. However, while it seems clear that replications are beneficial to psychological science, there is little empirical evidence that having students conduct replications provides benefits to students. In this study, I conducted a preliminary test (N = 37) of one purported benefit to students of conducting a classroom replication: the development of scientific critical thinking skills. Students completed a one-term research methods course centered around a class replication project. I assessed students' critical thinking development after completing the course. The results were largely inconclusive, showing no significant change in performance between a pre-test (M = 11.00, SD = 3.44) and a post-test (M = 10.30, SD = 2.62), t(36) = -1.21, p = 0.23. This study highlights the need for additional research on the question of whether having students conduct replications provides educational benefits beyond those offered by other pedagogical methods.

There is a need for effective methods to teach critical thinking. Many studies on other skills have demonstrated beneficial effects of practice that repeatedly induces retrieval processes (repeated retrieval practice). The present experiment investigated whether repeated retrieval practice is effective for fostering critical thinking skills, focusing on avoiding biased reasoning. Seventy-five students first took a pre-test. Subsequently, they were instructed on critical thinking and avoiding belief-bias in syllogistic reasoning and engaged in retrieval practice with syllogisms. Afterwards, depending on the assigned condition, they (1) did not engage in extra retrieval practice; (2) engaged in retrieval practiced a second time (week later); or (3) engaged in retrieval practiced a second (week later) and a third time (two weeks later). Two/three days after the last practice session, all participants took a post-test consisting of practiced tasks (to measure learning relative to the pre-test) and non-practiced (transfer) tasks. Results revealed no significant difference between the pretest and the posttest learning performance as judged by the mean total performance (MC-answers + justification), although participants were, on average, faster on the post-test than on the pre-test. Exploring performance on MC-answers-only suggested that participants did benefit from instruction/practice but may have been unable to justify their answers. Unfortunately, we were unable to test effects on transfer due to a floor effect, which highlights the difficulty of establishing transfer of critical thinking skills. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that addresses repeated retrieval practice effects in the critical thinking domain. Further research should focus on determining the preconditions of repeated retrieval practice effects for this type of tasks.

This study aims to improve students' critical thinking skills (CTS) in disadvantaged, outermost and foremost areas, namely in Indonesia's border elementary schools which are full of limited educational facilities. This research was conducted on science subjects in grade VI SDN 29 IDAI on the balance of ecosystems. The method used for the research is the experimental method, which is Quasi Experiment because conditions do not allow for the control class to be held. The research design is one group pretest posttest design, where before the treatment is given, the sample is first given a pretest (initial test) and at the end of the learning sample is given a posttest (final test). CTS aspects developed in this study include identifying criteria for possible answers, mentioning examples, giving reasons, and drawing conclusions. Based on the results of data analysis in the form of the results of the pre-test and post-test, there was an increase in students' average critical thinking skills, starting from 32% (less) in the pre-test to 75% (good) in the post-test. The application of discovery-inquiry method with work sheet illustrated media is also able to increase student learning outcomes to an average value of 72.38 with a graduation rate. The minimum criteria for completeness in classical is 84.62%.

This research activity was carried out in two cycles with two meetings. Each cycle consists of four research steps, namely planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The learning tools consist of (1) RPP Discovery Learning model; (2) Science module based on Bengkulu Community ethnoscience measurement material; (3) LKPD; (4) assessment instruments for Critical Thinking Skills and Activities. The data analysis technique used descriptive analysis. The results obtained were an increase in students' critical thinking skills through the pretest and posttest. In the first cycle, the average pretest was 71.92 with a standard deviation of 6.01 and post-test was 75.77 with a standard deviation of 4.75. In cycle II, the average pretest was 80.19 with a standard deviation of 4.75 and the average post-test was 83.85 with a standard deviation of 4.83. From these results it can be compared that the increase in cycle II is greater than that of cycle I. The increase in students' critical thinking skills in cycle I is 58.69 and cycle II is 63.45. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the application of the Bengkulu Community Ethnoscience-Based Science Module through discovery learning can improve students' critical thinking skills. Keywords: Classroom Action Research, Module, Ethnoscience, Discovery Learning, Critical Thinking Skills.

This chapter documents the development of critical thinking skills in preservice teachers as they engaged in practicum settings in a teacher education program. Qualitative data helps illustrate the shifts in thinking that correlated with particular experiences in the program. Data is used to illustrate strategies that teacher preparation programs might draw on to help teacher education students develop critical thinking skills related to pedagogies and practices. The authors conclude by theorizing a relationship between the structure and strategies employed within a literacy methods course and the expansion of preservice teachers understanding of literacy, teaching, and learning.

The aims of the research concerned here were to the influence of using pocket mobile learning on improvement in students critical thinking skills. Pocket mobile learning is a learning media using mobile devices. This research is the quasy experiment using post test only for control group design. The independent variable is learning media in which the control group applied powerpoint, while the trearment group applied mobile pocket learning. The  research  data  were  analyzed  by  means  of  ANOVA  with  the  significance  level  of  5%.  Based on analysis and research results can be concluded that pocket mobile learning media of specifically physics material about dynamics of motion could improve students critical thinking skills.

the purpose of the present study was to investigate the impact of teaching critical thinking skills on reading comprehension of Iranian intermediate EFL learners. A sample of 50 students from Arshia Language Institute in Ilam, Iran participated in this study. They were both male and female students who were selected among 80 students based on their performances on PET. The participants were randomly divided into experimental and control groups. First, the two groups were exposed to the pre-test of reading comprehension in order to evaluate their knowledge on reading before the treatment. Based on scores obtained from the Pre-test, no significance differences were observed between two groups. After that the treatment was started and the experimental group was exposed to teaching critical thinking skills. Meanwhile, traditional methods of teaching reading comprehension were used for teaching reading comprehension to the control group. Finally, post-test of reading comprehension was delivered to both groups at the end of treatment to check possible differences.  To analyze the collected data, ANCOVA was run using SPSS Software Version 16. The results showed that teaching critical thinking skills positively affect reading comprehension of intermediate EFL learners, but the interaction of gender and teaching critical thinking was not significant.

This study aimed to describe the application and analysis of student's critical thinking skills in learning that used a jigsaw cooperative model with monopoly game media. The study used classroom action research with a quantitative descriptive approach. The application of the jigsaw type cooperative learning model with monopoly game media was applied in several stages, namely group formation, rolling dice in turns, followed by transaction activities in the form of a combination of answering questions, renting, selling, and buying assets until finally one of the students became an absolute rich person called a monopolist. The student's critical thinking ability before taking action measured through the pretest. It showed that the percentage of completeness obtained by students was 65.6% with a minimum completeness criterion of 75. The student's critical thinking ability after the action in cycle I showed that there was a change in the percentage of completeness obtained by students of 66.67% of the pretest results to 76.67% of the post-test results. In the second cycle, there was a change of 76.67% from the pretest results to 90% from the post-test results, thus student's critical thinking skills in learning that used a jigsaw cooperative model with monopoly game media increased by 10% in cycles I and 13,33% in cycle II.
