Józef Łobodowski’s pre-war translations were published in the weekly “Wołyń” which he was the editor of in the years 1937–1938, and in “Biuletyn Polsko-Ukraiński”. Among them, the translations of poems by Yuriy Kosach, Natalya Lyvitska-Kholodna, Oleh Olzhych and Yevhen Malanyuk can be found. Łobodowski had personal contacts with was Malanyuk as he was his long-time acquaintance. They both published their works in “Biuletyn Polsko-Ukraiński” and in “Kultura” based in Paris. Łobodowski translated in total over 20 works of the Ukrainian poet, the majority of which were published in “Kultura” after the war, together with a number of literary critical articles, such as Scylle i Charybdy poezji ukraińskiej (The Scyllas And Charybdas of the Ukrainian Poetry), Poezja Jewhena Małaniuka (Yevhen Malanyuk’s Poetry), Ostatnia wiosna (The Last Spring), or a memoir note Po śmierci Małaniuka (After Malanyuk’s Death). In the 1930s, Łobodowski became interested in the poetry from the collection Земля й залізо (Earth and Iron). In the interwar period, three translations were published: An Inscription on a Book of Poems (Напис на книзі віршів), 13 November 1920 (13 листопада 1920 р.) and fragments of the Epiphanies (Прозріння) cycle. In his translations, the author for Lublin was guided mainly by the principle of the hierarchy of values and equivalence. His works include Malanyuk’s poems close to his own poetry. Moreover, in his translation work he tended to avoid texts speaking against Poles and dividing the two nations. Łobodowski is characterised by his interpretational talents and the ability to preserve the main meanings of the original versions. In spite of the fact that his translations are characterised by dynamic equivalence, they are not spontaneous, they do not stem from emotions, but they have a solid theoretical foundation and are based on his excellent knowledge of the Ukrainian poet’s works.

Research field of migration has been developing for a long time parallel to and outside mainstream institutional academic sociology and its theoretical foundation. In the last two decades, within the field of migration studies, one specific aspect of the phenomena came to the research focus: gender, as significant factor that influences on motivation for migration, shaping, at the same time, its characteristics and specific experiences. With decisive breakthrough of qualitative methods in social sciences and humanities, as well as with gradual development of postmodern philosophy and feminist theory, gender migration studies have been established as research sub-discipline, with its own theoretical and categorical scientific apparatus (as well as institutional-academic grounding), managing more or less successfully to explain and understand multidimensional character of migration processes. This text represents an attempt to make relatively concise overview of disciplines? historical, theoretical and research field development, as a first step in its broader affirmation within Serbian institutional sociology.

The article examines the work of Oksana Kerch – a representative of the literary process of the interwar period in Halychyna. Her work is considered in relation to the general artistic trends of the day, in particular in terms of stylistic features of the writer’s prose. For a long time, her work, removed from the cultural process, was on the margins of literary criticism. Although Oksana Kerch’s prose is unknown to the general public, her artistic heritage is original and distinctive. At one time, the writer’s works were published on the pages of well-known periodicals, such as “Women’s Fate”, “Nova hata”, “Ukrainian News”, and were published in separate prints. The return of the artistic figure of Oksana Kerch to the all-Ukrainian literary process necessitated a comprehensive study of her creative heritage. In particular, it is important to consider the genre and style specifics of the writer’s novels. The novel “The Groom” is bright and original in the writer’s artistic work. In this novel the author recreates the dramatic events of the interwar decades in Halychyna. A notable feature of the work is autobiography – the writer herself witnessed those turbulent events of the struggle of Ukrainian patriotic youth for their national identity. The novel consists of twenty-one stories. The four main characters take turns telling about the life of military and interwar Lviv and its inhabitants. On the printed pages, the author created a unique figurative world that reflected the conflicts of the era. In the novel, Oksana Kerch recreates the environment in which the ideas of the national liberation movement are born, and through the perception of her own national identity, she models neo-romantic ideals on her way to serve the native people. The neo-romantic concept is vividly embodied in the pages of the work. Here the author continues the tradition that has developed in Ukrainian neo-romanticism – the dominance of the theme of Ukraine, the struggle for its independence.

The article consider the concept of religious pluralism by M. Mendelssohn and some aspects of his theory of knowledge and linguistic theory, lying in the foundation of the pluralism concept. The article shows that Mendelssohn expressed views that are far ahead of his time. His theory of knowledge repeats some lines of Hume's philosophy, which he praised highly, what was not characteristic of the German Enlightenment as a whole. By virtue of this, Mendelssohn can be considered as Kant's predecessor in a positive assessment of Hume. Some of Mendelssohns ideas are further developed in phenomenology. The author argues that Mendelssohns views on the interaction of religions, although they have a number of features that make this thinker related to other thinkers of the Enlightenment, also have a fundamental difference with them. As a result, his religious pluralism concept is close to the modern understanding of religious pluralism. The author also attempts to reveal the reasons why Mendelssohn, despite his great significance for both German philosophy and Jewish culture, was almost forgotten for a long time.

In the article, I focuss on the theme of the political views of Jan Lechoń during his New York exile, which emerged in his literary work, letters, and Dziennik. The main elements of the political stance of the author of Srebrne i czarne were in that time: resolute anti-communism, critical assessment of the actions of the government in exile, his declared admiration for America, and a nostalgia for the interwar period (idealising Józef Piłsudski). The discussed views of the poet exerted a considerable influence on his personal life, which was proven by the politically motivated breaking off his long-time relations with Julian Tuwim. One important problem is where to locate Lechoń’s dissatisfaction with the political changes in Poland, which he stated often, within the reasons for his suicide.

The article attempts to recreate the process of organizational development of the Luhansk eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Autocephalous Synodal Church of 1922-1936. It was found out that due to the conditions of aggravation of confessional division the representatives of the renewal movement managed to minimize their reformation provisions during 1926-1928. The Synodal Church managed to stabilize the institutional crisis. With the appointment of Bishop Veniamin to a vacant for a long time throne, with the active support of local authorities, the Luhansk diocese has reached its greatest development, covering in its structure about a quarter of the Orthodox communities of the district. It is determined that since the Ukrainian-centric ideological principles of the Synodal Church were not fully embodied in the practical activities of the renewal clergy, the emergence of the Conciliar Episcopal Church as a relatively canonical alternative Reformation denomination of Ukrainian Orthodoxy became relevant in Ukraine. In particular, in the Luhansk region, as a result of the unconstructive methods of Bishop’s Photius (Topiro) governing, it was the local diocese of the UCEC that became a refuge for the renewal communities, almost doubling the number of its own parishes during 1928-1929. It is proved that the development of the Synodal Church in the Luhansk region was marked by the lack of an effective system of government, the low discipline of the clergy, and especially given the change in state policy in the field of religion. The historical circumstances of the confessional division of Ukrainian Orthodoxy in the interwar period on the example of a separate region are highlighted. Further research on this topic requires clarification of a number of ethnocultural, political, linguistic, and canonical issues of local renewal communities, which will expand the understanding of the religious worldview of the local population and propose new conceptual approaches to overcoming church divisions.

In the interwar period, Józef Łobodowski was one of the few who became interested in the work of Lesya Ukrainka. In the 1930s, he translated her drama Forest Song. Unfortunately, the war prevented its publication and the prepared materials were lost. Łobodowski’s translation output also included a fragment of the drama Boyarinya, which appeared in the 32nd Polish-Ukrainian Bulletin in 1938. It is worth emphasizing that Łobodowski proved to be known not only as a translator, but also as a literary critic. He has written a number of articles on Ukrainian literature. Among them, two of them, published in the “Polish-Ukrainian Bulletin”: Lesya Ukrainka and Works of Lesya Ukrainka (On the 25th Anniversary of Death – 1913-1938) in 1933 and 1938, respectively, deserve special attention. Th e discussed translation is largely an example of dynamic equivalence. In them, the translator draws attention to semantic adequacy, but does not give up the poeticisation of the text.

Professor Gheorghe Mârzescu's contribution to the development of legal education at the University of Iași is essential. A French legal expert, he was actively involved in the institutional and didactic consolidation of the Faculty of Law in its first years of operation. The fact that for a long time he did not have the status of professor shows us the difficult context in which the foundations of the university education from Iasi were laid. Through his works Gheorghe Mârzescu is the founder of the scientific study on civil law at the University of Iași. He was a follower of liberal values and a constant promoter of the principle of laicization, which is why he openly came into conflict with the representatives of the Church. Despite this complexity, the life and work of Professor Gheorghe Mârzescu are less well known today, often being mistaken for his son, an important politician at the beginning of the interwar period. This article aims to bring back to life some of the complex valences of this personality, emphasizing its founding role and the vocation of freedom that he has permanently promoted.

In recent years, the electron microscope has been significantly improved in resolution and we can obtain routinely atomic-level high resolution images without any special skill. With this improvement, the structure analysis of organic materials has become one of the interesting targets in the biological and polymer crystal fields.Up to now, X-ray structure analysis has been mainly used for such materials. With this method, however, great effort and a long time are required for specimen preparation because of the need for larger crystals. This method can analyze average crystal structure but is insufficient for interpreting it on the atomic or molecular level. The electron microscopic method for organic materials has not only the advantage of specimen preparation but also the capability of providing various information from extremely small specimen regions, using strong interactions between electrons and the substance. On the other hand, however, this strong interaction has a big disadvantage in high radiation damage.

For a long time, the development of dynamical theory for HEER has been stagnated for several reasons. Although the Bloch wave method is powerful for the understanding of physical insights of electron diffraction, particularly electron transmission diffraction, it is not readily available for the simulation of various surface imperfection in electron reflection diffraction since it is basically a method for bulk materials and perfect surface. When the multislice method due to Cowley & Moodie is used for electron reflection, the “edge effects” stand firmly in the way of reaching a stationary solution for HEER. The multislice method due to Maksym & Beeby is valid only for an 2-D periodic surface. Now, a method for solving stationary solution of HEER for an arbitrary surface is available, which is called the Edge Patching method in Multislice-Only mode (the EPMO method). The analytical basis for this method can be attributed to two important characters of HEER: 1) 2-D dependence of the wave fields and 2) the Picard iteractionlike character of multislice calculation due to Cowley and Moodie in the Bragg case.

The electron holes confined to the CuO2-plane are the charge carriers in high-temperature superconductors, and thus, the distribution of charge plays a key role in determining their superconducting properties. While it has been known for a long time that in principle, electron diffraction at low angles is very sensitive to charge transfer, we, for the first time, show that under a proper TEM imaging condition, it is possible to directly image charge in crystals with a large unit cell. We apply this new way of studying charge distribution to the technologically important Bi2Sr2Ca1Cu2O8+δ superconductors.Charged particles interact with the electrostatic potential, and thus, for small scattering angles, the incident particle sees a nuclei that is screened by the electron cloud. Hence, the scattering amplitude mainly is determined by the net charge of the ion. Comparing with the high Z neutral Bi atom, we note that the scattering amplitude of the hole or an electron is larger at small scattering angles. This is in stark contrast to the displacements which contribute negligibly to the electron diffraction pattern at small angles because of the short g-vectors.
