The purpose of the article is a comprehensive description of demonological ideas and beliefs of the inhabitants of Khmilnyk district of Vinnytsia region, made on the basis of their own records from this part of the historical and ethnographic Volyn. The research methodology is based on a combination of general scientific (analysis, synthesis, generalization) and special-historical (historical-typological) methods with the principles of historicism, systematization, scientificity and verification. When recording demonological materials, the main thing was to use the method of field ethnography. The works of famous Ukrainian ethnographers devoted to demonological ideas and beliefs of specific localities were used as role models. The scientific novelty of the work in the first situation was due to the publication of a large array of field ethnographic materials, which the author collected in 2014 in the villages of Voronivtsi, Zozulyntsi, Morozivka, Pagurtsi, Petrykivka, Pustovity, Rybchyntsi, Filiopol and town Khmilnyk. Most of them are published for the first time. In addition, the demonological tradition of Khmilnyk district has not yet been the subject of such accumulated attention. With the exception of some publications, the authors of which are the participants of the mentioned expedition in 2014 R. Siletsky, M. Bahlay and A. Kryvenko, these areas in this context were unknown to researchers of folk spiritual culture. Conclusions. Demonological tradition of Khmilnyk district at the beginning of the 20th century remains quite rich. Its main characters are witches and sorcerers, vampires, hobgoblins, mermaids, «potеrchatа», dead-«revenаnts», actually devils. In general, the demonology of the Khmilnyk district resembles the East Volyn region, which is natural. At the same time, there is a rapprochement with the Podillia tradition, in particular in the beliefs about vampirеs, about mermaids, about the elderberry as a «devil's tree» and so on. It is worth noting that the local population, sometimes clearly feeling the difference between their speech and Podillian, today identifies itself with Podillya.

Summary. The purpose of the research is to study the motives that prompted local policemen in the Kryvyi Rih and Stalindorf districts to participate in Holocaust. The research methodology is based on the principles of historicism, system-formation, scientific character, verification, the author’s objectivity, moderated narrative constructivism, and the use of general scientific (analysis, synthesis, generalization) and specially-historical (historical-genetic, historical-typological, historical-systemic, etc.) methods. Scientific novelty for the first time on the basis of video evidence from the Yahad-In Unum archive and other archives, we researched features of the motives for local policemen to participate in Holocaust in the Kryvyi Rih and Stalindorf districts. Concise conclusions - Video evidence from the Yahad-In Unum archive gave the opportunity to analyze the motives of local policemen and also the stages of the Holocaust in which they took part. There were several main motives: socio-economic motives, which were associated with the satisfaction of their material needs; ideological motives associated with the negative attitude of some policemen to the Soviet authority (they also saw the Jews as the representatives of Soviet power); envy (which bordered on anti-Semitism); the desire for power. These motives forced the local police to take part in the Holocaust. The direct executors, together with the Germans, were ordinary police officers. They were mainly engaged in the collection and guard of the Jews before the execution, the escorting of the Jews to the places of execution, guarding the places of mass murder, and sometimes directly committed murders of the Jews.

The geosciences are an undeniably male-dominated sector (80/20 male/female in 2008). This has led to a loss of female talent and lack of diversity within the sector. Retention of female students in the geosciences is highest where students can identify with same gender career/industry leaders (Hernandez et al., Geosphere, Vol. 14,6, 2018), yet with few obvious female role models, poor female student retention has become a self-perpetuating problem. Girls into Geoscience was instigated in Plymouth in 2014 to interrupt this cycle. Girls around the ages of 16-17 and with any level of geoscience knowledge were invited to Plymouth to be introduced to the subject by leading females in the geoscience field. The annual event has proven so successful that it has now been taken up in Ireland.

Girls into Geoscience – Ireland (GiGie) is now at the end of its second year, having run three successful events across Ireland. GiGie has taken the form of day-long events which incorporate workshops, talks, networking and field-trip style elements. These events have been hosted in academic institutions and rotate annually to reach multiple areas of Ireland which often have limited access to STEM activities. So far, events have been hosted in Cork, Galway and Dublin. 100% of participants at the Cork event fed back that they were more likely to study geoscience, and similarly 83% of participants in Galway were now more likely to consider studying geosciences. 100% of Galway participants also had an increased understanding of geoscience careers, which is important considering the negative perceptions that are commonly attributed to careers in the geosciences. Suggestions from the events in Cork and Galway led us to incorporate a field-trip style element to the day, which was run for the first time in Dublin. The future of GiGie is bright. A planned expansion of the programme could lead to its most successful year yet. Across in the UK, expansion is also in action with further events taking place in Scotland, and a junior event being developed in Leicester. Gender balance is far from equal yet, but change is happening. We look forward to seeing Girls into Geoscience flourish.

“I loved (that) it was for girls. (It) made me feel more confident and that its possible to do science as a girl” – Participant, Cork.

The article is devoted to one event in ancient history, called ‘The First Migration of Peoples,’ which was studied and commented on many times when the Germanic tribes Cimbri and Teutons carried out many years of displacement in the space of Central Europe. Despite their defeat by Rome, this event caused a powerful movement of other tribes, especially towards Eastern Europe, where many new archaeological cultures were formed. Among them, a special place is occupied by the Zarubinets culture and its part in the history of Eastern Europe. The purpose of the study is to determine the place of Zarubinets culture in the history of eastern Europe. The research methodology consists in the use of general scientific, special and interdisciplinary methods. Scientific novelty. For the first time, the Zarubinets culture of Eastern Europe is considered against the background of the Western European tribe’s movement due to Roman expansion. Conclusions. The question of the Zarubinets culture's origin is still debatable. Now there is no particular objection to the opinion that the genesis of Zarubinets culture was a complex process that reflected the peculiarities of both the internal development of the local population and the effects of external circumstances, reflecting the movement of tribes in the Center for Europe.

This article analyzes the problem of recommendatory norms in Russian literature, both Soviet and modern, which is solved ambiguously. As for Soviet theoretical scientists, recommendation norms were the subject of study by such authors as Nikolai Grigorievich Alexandrov, Alexander Filippovich Shebanov, Peter Yemelyanovich Nedbailo, Vladimir Srgeevich Petrov, Valery Evaldovich Krasnyansky. Viktor Mikhailovich Gorshenev, Cecilia Abramovna Yampolskaya, Vladimir Matveevich Solyanik, Viktor Lavrenievich Kulapov, whose scientific works are given below. Regarding modern legal literature, unfortunately, we have to state that, basically, with rare exceptions (scientific articles by Vladimir Valentinovich Kozhevnikov, Alexander Evgenievich Kondratyev, Sadri Salikhovich Kuzakbirdiev), this problem is considered only in educational literature. When preparing a scientific article, the following methods were used: general philosophical (dialectical-materialistic), which is used in all social sciences; general scientific (analysis and synthesis, logical and historical, comparisons, abstractions, etc.), which are used not only by the theory of state and law, but also by other social sciences; special methods (philological, cybernetic, psychological, etc.), developed by special sciences and widely used for the knowledge of state and legal phenomena; private scientific (formal legal, interpretation of law, etc.), which are developed by the theory of state and law. Soviet scientists - legal theorists: supporters and opponents of the recognition of recommendatory norms of law. From the point of view of scientists, a "recommendatory" -containing recommendation, i.e. advice, wish [1], instruction [2].
