The article deals with the issue of the development of higher education, the formation of a new model of educational process in non-philological higher schools. It is noted that the new model of educational process is focused on active modernization of education, improving the quality of education, more efficient use of training time and satisfying the needs of each student in accordance with his individual abilities through the use of information technologies in the educational process. Today the task of most linguistic departments and language training centers for foreign students of higher education in Ukraine is to search and develop innovative teaching technologies and advanced forms and methods of teaching students, the introduction of the results of advanced world scientific schools into the practice of teaching non-native language. The urgency of the problem lies in the fact that in today’s demanding and rapidly changing environment, the level of education depends to a large extent on the effectiveness of the introduction of modern technologies into learning, based on new methodological principles, modern didactic principles and psychological and pedagogical theories. Of course, computer does not replace the teacher, but is only a means of carrying out a pedagogical activity, his assistant. However, it should be noted that when using multimedia, the role of a teacher changes significantly: he begins to use teaching time more effectively, focusing on individual assistance to students, on the discussion of information, on the development of their creative approach. Despite the large number of new educational technologies, one should not consider any of them as self-sufficient. Perhaps the one that integrates a complex of achievements of several methods, that is transformed depending on the methodological preferences, the content of the discipline, the equipping of the educational process, the level of students, the level of professional training, will be the most effective.

ABSTRACT Teaching and learning in higher education is occurring, unavoidably, within the broader civic context of today’s extraordinarily polarizing political times. We seek to help students situate themselves with respect to and, above all, thoughtfully assess others’ as well as their own perspectives on issues of profound contention, without contributing to exacerbated polarization ourselves. Specifically, we offer students in our first-year exploratory political science course a vital tool—critical rigor—for navigating but not being inundated by the storm. This article discusses our experiences in teaching the course titled, “The Worlds of Politics,” as we attempt to help students deeply engage in cognitive processes of critical thinking and analysis, without undue infringement from their own—and least of all our own—personal political biases. Our focal learning objective is the cultivation of critical-thinking skills that promote students’ drawing of distinctions between advocacy and analysis, as well as their discerning civic engagement.

There is a demand for transformation in higher education. Undergraduates need to be taught critical thinking, an essential skill that should be central to the mission of all educational institutions. Critical thinking is a key focus of academic interest among researchers in the field of pedagogy and methodology. Despite this, there is still a lack of sufficient information on approaches, methods, techniques, and means of incorporating critical thinking skills in the classroom environment at the tertiary education level. The purpose of this paper is to provide a comprehensive review of the hands-on experiences of some European and Asian universities in promoting critical thinking education using a range of academic models. The review shows that critical thinking has already been integrated into many major tertiary education programmes in both European and Asian universities. Further, majority of the academic models implemented are transferable and flexible. The results confirm that in terms of content, methods, and technologies, university education is focusing on cultivating the higher order skills necessary for innovative professional activities in modern world.

The article considers the main provisions of blended learning organization in medical institutions of higher education. The main online platforms and digital teaching aids, that are used in medical institutions of higher education during the educational process based on blended learning, are identified in particular: distance learning platforms (Equity Maps, Google Classroom, Moodle), mobile-digital applications (Classtime, LearningApps, Quizizz) and online communication platforms (Google Meet, ZOOM, WeBex). The concept of blended learning is defined as a harmonious combination of students’ classwork and the use of information and digital technologies in extracurricular activities (independent work, group work, etc.). The principles of organizing the educational process in institutions of higher medical education include a general didactic approach in working with large groups, discussion in small groups, individual training and learning using information and digital technologies. An important aspect in the training of highly qualified medical professionals in the blended learning format is blended laboratory courses. Such an organization of training, as shown in the study, is popular with both students and teachers of laboratory bachelor courses. Note that in this process, teachers mainly focus on the development of students' abilities for autonomous learning, and not just on the transfer of theoretical knowledge. The best experience of blended learning usage in the world medical institutions of higher education is considered. The advantages of blended learning in medical students’ preparation are shown. In further scientific research it is planned to study the current experience of organizing blended education of Kharkiv National Medical University in the conditions of adaptive quarantine in the 2020/2021 academic year.
