Regulation of the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number 16 of 2007 concerning Academic Qualification Standards and Teacher Competencies states that one of the competencies of high school biology teachers is the competence to properly design and implement practicum. Biology Education students as prospective biology teachers must master these competencies. The existence of independent learning resources can be used as a reference for prospective student teachers in studying material related to practicum activities. This study aims to produce independent learning resources in the form of videos. This research was conducted at the PMIPA Laboratory FKIP Riau University, SMAN 8 Pekanbaru and SMAN 15 Pekanbaru in April-December 2020. The type of research used was Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model. The instruments used in this study were the validation sheet and response questionnaire. The results of the video validation obtained an average value of 3.57 with a very valid category. The results of the limited trial phase I obtained an average value of 3.64 in the very good category, while the results of the phase II trial obtained an average value of 3.43 in the very good category. Based on the results of the validation and trials, it shows that the video of the design and implementation of the biology practicum developed can be used as an independent learning resource for prospective biology teachers.

The study has investigated availability of laboratory supporting staff and its effect on the conduct of biology practical lesson among public secondary schools in Sokoto State, Nigeria. The study answered two research questions and one hypothesis. The population of the study comprised 32 senior secondary schools in Sokoto metropolis with 93 biology teachers. Fifteen (15) public secondary schools were randomly selected with 30 biology teachers as sampled teachers, including heads of biology departments. The study used an instrument titled Biology Laboratory Practical Work Questionnaire (BLPWQ) with reliability coefficient of 0.82. Data obtained from the field were analyzed using simple descriptive statistics and chi-square. The findings revealed that public schools in Sokoto metropolis have no sufficient laboratory supporting staff. The schools also conduct little practical lessons. Similarly, there was significant relationship between laboratory supporting staff availability and frequency of conduct of biology practical lessons. It’s recommended that, the government should provide adequate and qualified laboratory supporting staff (laboratory assistant, technician/attendant) to the secondary schools in the state.

This study aims to produce an encyclopedia of biological laboratory equipment and to find out the feasibility of the encyclopedia of biological laboratory equipment developed as a biology learning resource for high school students. This study included research and development (R & D) using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) developed by Reiser and Mollenda in the 1990s. This research is limited only to the implementation stage (limited or small scale implementation), then limited testing is conducted to 1 material expert, 1 media expert, 2 biology teachers and 4 peer reviewers and 20 students' responses to the product developed to determine the quality/feasibility of the product. The research instrument was in the form of a check list questionnaire using a Likert scale. The design of this study uses a descriptive qualitative research design with the type of data in the form of qualitative and quantitative data to determine the quality/feasibility of the product being developed. the results showed that: encyclopedia products of biology laboratory equipment were developed with the ADDIE model. The quality/feasibility of the encyclopedia is developed based on the assessment of material experts with a percentage of 80% including the good category (B); media experts at 85.6% including the excellent category (SB); biology teachers at 91% including the excellent category (SB); peer reviewers at 86.8% including the excellent category (SB); and student responses of 87.6% included very feasible categories. Thus it can be concluded that the encyclopedia of biological laboratory equipment developed having very decent quality is used as a reference for teachers in biology laboratory as well as can be used by high school students as one of the learning resources of biology.

This research aims to develop Pop-Up Book as supplementary media to support the teaching of narrative texts and to evaluate whether or not the media are feasible to teach narrative texts to the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 8 Pontianak. The media consisted of narrative texts with pop-up pictures. They were divided based on the structure of a narrative text. The materials were taken from the students’ textbook that the researcher has simplified. The procedures were adapted from ADDIE Model proposed by Branch and it used three phases, namely, Analyse, Design, and Develop. From analyse phase, it was found that the students needed interesting media that was visually attractive to engage them in the teaching learning process and to support the existing materials. The Design phase covered the aspects, which were the focus of the media, of the materials and the pictures for the media, and the structure of the media. The Development phase concerned the development of the essential parts of the media. According to the evaluation result, the media are considered feasible to be applied by the teachers to teach narrative text reading.

This study examined the effects of inquiry-based biology laboratory applications on pre-service biology teachers’ scientific process skills, attitudes, self-efficacy, and self-confidence in the laboratory. In this context, many related tests and scales were applied to first-year students of biology education (N=25). The research adopted the pre-test and post-test control group model. The results showed that laboratory practices based on both the corroborative and the guided inquiry approach increase the scientific process skills of the prospective teachers. Guided inquiry-based laboratory practices have increased the attitudes of pre-service biology teachers toward laboratory lessons. However, self-efficacy and self-confidence of the pre-service teachers taking part in corroborative laboratory practices increased, while guided inquiry methods did not have a significant effect on self-efficacy and self-confidence. The findings of the study highlighted the importance of a guided inquiry approach in the laboratory applications related training of pre-service biology teachers.

Abstract. Learning media is a teaching and learning process that tends to be interpreted as graphical, photographic, or electronic tools to capture, process, and reconstruct visual or verbal information. Crosswords are a kind of word play. The learning media developed to facilitate teachers and students in the process of learning and teaching at Junior High School grade VIII. The purpose of this study was to prodice puzzle learning media by crossword puzzle and feasible to be developed as rearning media on human eireulatory system material. Based on the results of the observations that have been carried out, the teacher only uses descourse and less varied learning which makes students bored in learning. The method used in this study is the research and development (R & D), by ADDIE method, the researcher produced a crossword puzzle and its feasibility will be tested. The results of the study after the media were tested on the validator of media experts and material experts got a very decent category. The results of the research from the science teacher, get a very feasible assessment to be developed. The results of research on peer review get a very feasible category to be tested. And the results obtained during the trial of students with trials of small groups, middle groups and large groups led to a very decent category. To we it can be concluded that, puzzle learning media by crossword puzzles is very feasible to develop.

Keywords: Puzzle learning media, crossword puzzles

Android-based learning media for Social Studies (SS) might reduce boredom and accelerate student learning because it conveys attractive, creative, and innovative learning materials that support independent learning. This study aims to develop android-based learning media for SS about the Kingdom and Relics of Hindu-Buddhist. It employed Research and Development (R&D) with Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation (ADDIE) model. Validation by material experts and linguists stated that the learning media was feasible with 61.5% and 70%. Results show that the learning media is suitable to use by 88.2%. The product trials resulted in practical products by 100% from educational practitioners, and 80.2% from students. This finding indicates that the media is effective, as can be seen, that 26 out of 32 students scored above the minimum grade. It is suggested that SS learning media are developed through further research by utilizing virtual reality technology. This may accelerate student understanding as the use of videos and pictures, and virtual reality to images and objects help depict things clearly.
