The paper aims to show the importance of soft skills of the undergraduate urban youth who are preparing their career within Nepal or abroad.  Youth in city pursue formal education from colleges and university in Nepal. After the completion of undergraduates, they prepare themselves for the job market. In this line, I argue that those youth who have not developed their soft skills struggle much to find out a job. It also increases the urban poverty and unemployment.  I employed ethnographic research approach to explore everyday life activities of urban youth showing their preparedness of career. In doing so, I am telling credible, rigorous, and authentic stories of those undergraduate urban youth who are preparing their career in Kathmandu. The research is carried out in Kathmandu with four young research participants who are going to appear their final semester examination of undergraduate level in Management stream from a private college of Kathmandu.  Two of them  have just started working in companies and two of them are searching  jobs.  Applying the soft skill perspective the paper explores the situation of undergraduate youth in Kathmandu who theoretically learned about some soft skills in colleges and university during their academic hours but they hardly practiced in working environment.  The research explores that it is not enough to deliver theories of soft skills in the classroom rather  practice for youth who are going to start their career in the city.

In the city of Langsa, the violation of Islamic sharia qanun (regional bylaws) has shown a declining trend; however, it still accounts for a large proportion. This is a surprising issue since it is believed that the Wilayatul Hisbah (Islamic religious police force) of Langsa has performed its duties and functions properly. To respond to the issue, the study of this thesis formulated several questions, including: what are the da’wah strategies used by the Wilayatul Hisbah in supervising the Islamic sharia in Langsa? and how are the da’wah strategies of the Wilayatul Hisbahin supervising the Islamic sharia against the perspective of manhaj da’wah? The study used field research approach, using qualitative descriptive analysis method. Data were collected by interview and documentation. The results of the study showed that the Wilayatul Hisbah of Langsa employed two types of da’wah strategies: da’wah bi al-lisan (oral da’wah) and da’wah bi al-hal(practical da’wah). Da’wah bi al-lisanincluded speech, Jum’ah sermon, appeal, discussion, and advice/guidance. Da’wah bi al-halinvolved patrol and raid. Further, in the view of the da’wah manhaj, the da’wah strategies used structural and cultural approaches. The structural approaches included (a) the supervision of the Islamic sharia was conducted by an official institution formed by the government, which was the Wilayatul Hisbah, (b) the Wilayatul Hisbah and the Islamic Sharia Office was merged institutionally, (c) the establishment of Islamic sharia supervisors at the village level by the Wilayatul Hisbah and the sharia supervisors by the village officers, and (d) the development of cooperation between the government agencies (e.g. Islamic Sharia Office, Ulama Consultative Assembly, Civil Service Police Unit, Police, Indonesian National Army, Sharia Court, and non-governmental (Islamic) organizations). The cultural approaches involved implementing the strategic da’wah methods and strategies. The da’wah methods of the Wilayatul Hisbah have been in line with the Qur’an chapter An-Nahl verse 125, which describes da’wah bi al-hikmah (wisdom), da’wah bi al-mauidza al-hasanah (good advice), and da’wah al-mujadalah bi al-latihiya ahsan (good dialog).

Communication is a fundamental part of the working environment that comprises interpersonal relations and communication between groups and individuals and other social interactions within the active community. Communication and soft skills have become an important issue due to the lack of study and development, especially in the Landscape Architectural practice. It can be seen that the lack of communication and soft skills by current graduates has affected employability leading to a large quantity of unemployment and lack of advancement within the landscape industry. Hence, to keep up with the current trends of what employers seek within these landscape architecture graduates, it is believed that a paradigm shift in the training of students must take into account the development of Communication Skills within the curriculum to help aid the development of graduate employability skills. A method of assessing communication skills is also required to rate a Landscape Architect’s level of communication competence to further enhance the graduates’ career in the industry. This research deals with the development of  self concept of Hiroko as the main character in Namaku Hiroko by Nh. Dini and tries to identify how Hiroko is portrayed in the story, how she interacts with other characters and whether she is portrayed as a character dominated by ”I” element or  ”Me”  element seen  from sociological and cultural point of view. As a qualitative research in nature, the source of data in this research is the novel Namaku Hiroko (1967) and the data ara analyzed and presented deductively. The result of this analysis shows that in the novel, Hiroko as a fictional character is  portrayed as a girl whose personality  develops and changes drastically from ”Me”  to ”I”. When she was still in the village  l iving with her parents, she was portrayed as a obedient girl who was loyal to the parents, polite and acted in accordance with the social customs. In short, her personality was dominated by ”Me”  self concept. On the other hand, when she moved to the city (Kyoto), she was portrayed as a wild girl  no longer controlled by the social customs. She was  firm and determined totake decisions of  her won  for her future without considering what other people would say about her. She did not want to be treated as object. To put it in another way, her personality is more dominated by the ”I” self concept.

This chapter examines the tension in classical thought between reciprocity and altruism as the two fundamental grounds of interpersonal relations within the city and, to a lesser extent, between citizens and foreigners. It summarizes the chapters that follow, and examines in particular the ideas of altruism and egoism and defends their application to ancient ethics. Various attempts to reconcile the two, especially in respect to Aristotle’s conception of virtue as other-regarding, are considered, and with the relationship to modern concepts of “egoism” and “altruism” is explored. The introduction concludes by noting that one of the premises of the book is that, in classical antiquity, love was deemed to play a larger role in the way people accounted for motivation in a number of domains, including friendship, loyalty, gratitude, grief, and civic harmony.
